Music/RadioAre Singers Really Bad At Rhythm? by bmdmixer(op): 6:15pm On May 06, 2020
Some instrumentalists claim that singers have lousy rhythm. Some say that singers are sloppy musicians and don’t pay attention to details.

Why do they say that? Are singers really deficient when it comes to observing accurate rhythm? I have worked with singers as an accompanist and coach for many years, and I have seen again and again that singers are not quite as accurate with rhythm as their instrumentalist counterparts.

Then I get up to sing, and my own rhythmic sense deteriorates! Why is that? How can I have played advanced repertoire on piano, flute, and double bass, and then suddenly lose ground in my rhythmic abilities when I sing? One day while working with my vocal coach, we were laughing at how I have played concertos and complicated modern sonatas and chamber music on instruments, yet I messed up simple rhythms in a song.

She said that she believed that there must be something about the act of counting and the act of delivering words that is very difficult to do at the same time. That made sense to me, so I started thinking about that a lot in my singing and teaching. We musicians are taught from an early age to “count our rhythms”, such as “1 & 2 & 3e&a 4”, et cetera. When we are playing our flutes and violins and drums we can have this internal counting going on while we play.

When we sing, we must operate our instrument (vocalize), RECITE TEXT, and well…how do you count rhythms with one set of words while expressing text with another set of words? If we have a “counting” based way of tracking rhythms, we will be colliding with.... .

jeff1607:
how do you intend solving unemployment?
creation of lacking structures like refinery, water co operation, and self loan power employment n many more this will assist in reducing the number of employment in the country, we should all remember not everyone wants to work anyway.

how about power generation,
electricity isnt black magic, it is obvious the government is milking this sector from foreign aids, a simple inquiring nation wide on what is needed for steady power will b put in place, accountability will b followed to watch out for currupt officials

roads
i once watch a documentary where the Chinese rebuilt a damage road in less than 48hrs, this is made possible because of a good working system and allocation.

to get more money, i will reopen intestate tolling system, think about the number of people traveling, this alone after just a week of fund gathering can actually fix a state city road. we don't need to be borrowing loans we just need to gather wisely and spend wisely

how would you diversify the economy
working hand to hand will foreign investors
this will lead to more jobs and more money from foreign income taxes, local product n foreign goods will hit the shelfs giving the people the opportunity to have several brand.
like i always say no economy can survive without the help of a foreign body.

how about foreign exchange
currency exchange during yaradura n good luck time was better, I know buhari increased this exchange to b able to allow the economy self develop in agriculture n other import sector, but it was wrong for nothing worked, greed took over n only made things worst, food became expensive and local (buy 9ja) became a lauging stock because people still preferred to patronise foreign product for it quality, so yes exchange rate will b reduce and also all currency transaction will b done in the bank for one uniform transaction

Whether you want to be a Jeopardy! champion or just need to remember where you parked your car, here are 11 things you can do right now to turn your mind from a sieve into a steel trap.

1. Concentrate for 8 Seconds.

These days we’re all about things being faster. That’s why this advice is invaluable: When you really need to remember something, concentrate on it for at least 8 seconds. That can seem like a long time when you're running around trying to get a million things done, but it is worth it. Studies have shown that 8 seconds is the minimum amount of time it takes for a piece of information to go from your short-term memory to your long-term memory.

2. Don’t Walk Through a Doorway.

We’ve all walked into a room and suddenly realized we can’t remember why we needed to be there in the first place. Don’t worry, you’re not getting more forgetful—chances are it was the act of walking through a doorway that made you go completely blank. Researchers found that participants in both virtual and real-world studies were far more likely to forget what object they had just placed in a container if they were asked right after walking through a doorway than if they carried the object the same distance in a single room. Scientists have yet to figure out why, but something about entering a new place seems to restart our memory.

3. Make a Fist.

If you’re having trouble remembering things at work, get a stress ball. The act of clenching your fist, if done correctly, can significantly improve your ability to recall information. Studies show that if you are right-handed, you should make a fist with your right hand before you try to memorize a piece of information. Then when you need to remember it, clench your left hand (the process is reversed for lefties.) Be sure to hold that position for a little while though; the study that discovered this had the participants squeezing for a good 45 seconds before letting go.

4. Exercise.

At this point we should just accept it that science considers exercise the cure for absolutely any problem, and memory is no different. The physical act increases alertness and oxygen supply to the brain, and may even increase cell growth in the parts of your brain responsible for memory. One study found that right after light exercise, women were able to recall things better than they could before working up a sweat. And while a quick jog can help you out right now, it is even more effective over the long term. A different study found that women who kept fit over six months significantly improved both their verbal and spatial memory.

5. Sleep.

At some point in high school or college, almost everyone has tried to pull an all-nighter before a big test (or so pop culture would have us believe). But even if you left your cramming until almost the last minute, it is more beneficial to get a good night’s sleep than to study until dawn. Studies have found that the processes your brain goes through while you're asleep actually help you remember information better the next day. Your brain is bombarded with stimuli when you’re awake, and it uses the time you are asleep to process everything. That's when it gets rid of unnecessary information and doubles down on remembering important things, like all that stuff in your biology textbook. Sleep is when it consolidates that information into a long-term memory. If you stay awake, your brain can’t go through this process.

6. Use Crazy Fonts.

We’re all font snobs to some extent. When it comes to books, newspapers, or the internet, we want everything to be clear and easy to read. But researchers have discovered that one of the best ways to remember something you’ve read is to read it in a weird font. The size and boldness makes.......

Nairaland GeneralNigeria Reports Record Infections Hours After Lockdown Was Eased by bmdmixer(op): 3:47pm On May 05, 2020
Nigeria has recorded its highest single-day infection rate of COVID-19, the day Africa's biggest economy began a six-week phase-out period of the emergency lockdown measures.

A total of 245 new cases were confirmed on Monday by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), 73 of them in the country's commercial capital Lagos.

The total number of infections in the country stood at 2,802 on Tuesday, including 93 deaths and 417 recoveries.

The update came just hours after the government relaxed restrictions in Abuja, Ogun and Lagos states, after more than four weeks of lockdowns imposed to contain the new coronavirus.

These densely populated regions will come into line with the rest of the country in which slightly looser restrictions introduced last week by President Muhammadu Buhari included an overnight curfew, mandatory face masks in public and a ban on non-essential interstate travel.

On Monday, the usually frenetic streets of the coastal megacity Lagos, largely empty during the lockdown, were busy again with cars, buses and tricycle taxis.

Despite rules banning groups of more than 20 people and stipulating that individuals remain two metres (6.6 feet) apart, large groups of people often gathered by the road waiting for public transport.

Social distancing rules were largely ignored.

Distinctive yellow minivans used as buses were full, with some passengers struggling to find space to enter vehicles.

However, in a crucial difference to pre-lockdown life, most people on the streets of Lagos wore face masks.

In the capital Abuja, in central Nigeria, many businesses were still closed.

Businesses have been allowed to reopen provided they have decontaminated their offices, can enable social distancing and offer hand sanitiser and hand washing.

The decision to begin a phased lifting of the lockdown despite the recent sharp rise in cases was criticised by some medical experts, including the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA).

The NMA president, Francis Faduyile, said on Friday the move was "very premature" and risked driving up the rate of infections, which he called a "frightening scenario".

Am I supposed to stop talking to other guys, because I am dating a guy like you who can’t even take care of the basic needs of a woman, her hair and toiletries? Of course I am doing it myself, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with my man doing it for me. If you are broke and do nothing for your babe give her some space.

She knows you don’t have and trying to cope with you but don’t choke her up, especially now when you have nothing to offer.

Ps: if you are stingy as a man, you are not a man, you have no value. I didn’t say broke I said stingy. If you can’t do in little you won’t in much.

FamilyRe: My Wife Is Angry With Me Because I Bought Underwears For Her Niece by bmdmixer: 11:31am On May 05, 2020
Caringfather:
Good evening all

Pls is it wrong for me to buy my wife niece under wears?

I have 3 children 2 girls ages 11, 7 and boy 4 , my wife niece is also living with us. She is 15. I buy my children clothes including their under-wears without my wife complaining I was the one that bought my first daughter her first bras too.

When my wife niece came staying with us it was 2018, I noticed most her clothes were native and worn out. I have given her the money to buy new clothes for the child but she never did. For 2 years now this girl has grown so much and still wearing the same clothes and I really feel ashamed every Sunday when we are going to church. Our kids are looking very cute and this girl is looking unkempt all the time. I have talked to my wife but she doesn’t seem to care about her.

I took all kids out for clothes shopping just before this pandemic and I bought clothes including under wears for all kids but my wife wasn’t happy because I bought bras and under wears for her niece. She said the clothes are fine but I have no right to buy under wears for her. She accused me of sleeping with her niece which is not true. I only did it because this girl was in need of clothes just imagine for 2 years no clothes while she keeps changing our kids wardrobes like every 4-6 months.

I have no intention of sleeping with her niece neither am I sleeping with her. I take her as our first born and am like her father. If I want to cheat on my wife, there are plenty women around me, no way I will stoop so low to sleep with her niece.

I have daughters, sisters and nieces, what I don’t want to happen to my kids then I wouldn’t do it to another person's child. My act was innocent but my wife is angry.

Please be honest with me, was my decision wrong?
