PoliticsObi Warns Against Ascribing Ethnic, Religious Factor To ‘obidient Movement’ by Bobloco(op): 2:26pm On Mar 30, 2023
The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) and leader of the Obedient Movement in Nigeria and in the diaspora, Mr Peter Obi, has warned against ascribing religious, ethnic and other parochial interests to the movement, saying the attempt will fail.

Obi, in a series of tweets yesterday, said there was no looking back on the movement’s goal of taking back Nigeria, noting that the time was now.

Obi, a former Governor of Anambra State, said, “In the life of every nation, there is a turning point. For Nigeria, that time is now; a time to save Nigeria, save our democracy and give the Nigerian youths hope. The Obidient Movement has been the arrowhead in the take-back Nigeria mission.

“My role in the movement is that of a focal point. As I have always stressed, Nigeria remains a secular state. As such, the movement is not about my tribe or my religion, and it is not an Igbo agenda or in any way to Christianise Nigeria.

“My aspiration is for a new Nigeria, where the children of a nobody will become somebody. A nation anchored on national interests, and not sectional interests; where the entire youths from the six geopolitical zones will have a sense of belonging in the affairs of their country.”

Obi drew the attention of Nigerians to: “What is happening in Scotland, where a 37-year-old, Humza Yousaf, is set to become Scotland’s first minister, having won a keenly contested SNP’s leadership. Born to Pakistani parents who migrated to Scotland in the 60s, Yousaf is from the ethnic minority and a Muslim.

Obi further said, “I have always maintained that Nigerians must rise above ethnicity, religion and sectarian politics in matters of governance; and that the leadership selection process must be strictly based on character, competence, capacity and compassion. Only then shall our democracy flourish and our society progress. Contextually, the Scottish reality is instructive and presents us with some lessons learned and missed opportunities.”

PoliticsInterim Government: Fani-kayode Urges DSS To Arrest Atiku, Peter Obi by Bobloco(op): 11:07am On Mar 30, 2023
A chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Femi Fani-Kayode has urged the Department of State Services, DSS to arrest the presidential candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar and his Labour Party, LP counterpart, Peter Obi over alleged call for an interim government instead of handing over power to the democratically elected president on May 29th.

Fani-Kayode made this plea o the DSS in a statement, titled, “Arrest the Rebels and Treasonable Subversives!” issued via his verified Twitter handle o Thursday.

Recall that DSS had earlier raised the alarm over an ongoing plot by some key political players in the country to install an interim government.

The Spokesman for the DSS, Dr. Peter Afunanya, revealed the step-by-step ways key political players are planning to effect their plans, in a statement made available to Vanguard.

According to him, the planners, in their many meetings, have weighed various options, which include, sponsoring endless violent mass protests in major cities to warrant a declaration of State of Emergency. Again, the service said they are planning to obtain frivolous court injunctions to forestall the inauguration of new executive administrations and legislative houses at the Federal and State levels.

But, Fani-Kayode described the calls for an interim government by members of the opposition as outrageous, subversive, and dangerous, adding that, “but they are also acts of treason, rebellion, and insurrection.”

“We have warned about these sinister plots and plans for months and well before the presidential elections, but no one took us seriously and it was to no avail. Now the signs are obvious and ominous and it is clear that there is something evil afoot.

“It is heartwarming and encouraging that the DSS, as alive to their duties as ever, finally issued a statement yesterday in which they vindicated us.

“This is vital in order for us to protect and save our democracy from those that seek to truncuate it and establish an unconstitutional form of Government in its stead.

“It is incumbent upon us all as democrats to speak out in support of the DSS and to help them thwart the evil plans of the unscrupulous conspirators, dangerous plotters, unpatriotic elements and fascistic forces that want to topple our Government and abort the democratic process.

“Those of us that are politicians and that still believe in democracy must stop being lazy, cowardly, undiscerning, insensitive and complacent in the face of this challenge.

We must appreciate the fact that there is a major play going in on the background and it is not yet uhuru. We must stop pretending that we do not know what is going on and we must desist from sitting on the fence and hedging our bets.

“We must rise to the occasion that this challenge and very real danger and threat presents and we must defend and preserve democracy by resisting the forces of chaos, anarchy and tyranny.

“As a senior citizen, a former public office holder, a public figure and a major stakeholder in the Asiwaju project, I can no longer sit by idly and stomach this. It would be irresponsible and cowardly to do so,” he said.

The former Minister of Aviation further stated, “For 16 years, from 1983 till 1999, many of us fought against military rule and paid a high price in that fight. Others that came before us fought it between 1966 and 1979. They also paid a high price.

“During the course of all those years many suffered, many were tortured, many were exiled, many lost everything, many were destroyed, many were jailed and many were martyred.

“These young ones that are protesting have no idea about the inherent horrors of military rule and what it really means because they were not born when the soldiers held sway in our country and they do not know the indignities and bondage that we were subjected to as a people during the course of those years,” he said.

According to Fani-Kayode, the fact that some are openly calling for a return to those dark days gives deep concern.

He noted that the last thing we need in our country today is military intervention, a military coup d’etat, or any other form of unconstitutional Government including an Interim National Government.

Against the backdrop of the alleged plot of the interim government, however, a lawyer and scholar on violent extremism, Bulama Bukarti, has described the move as criminal, unconstitutional, and punishable by death.

Bukarti stated this in an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday.

He said, “This move is undemocratic, it’s illegal, and it’s unconstitutional. Section 1 of our constitution is very clear that no part of Nigeria can be ruled other than by constitutional means and the only means recognised by the constitution is for people to win an election and

to be duly inaugurated by the authorities stipulated by the law.

“And therefore, it’s unconstitutional, it’s also criminal because what these people are planning is potentially what is called treason under our criminal laws and it’s punishable by death it carries the death penalty, which shows that it’s one of the most heinous crimes in Nigeria.”

I feel sad how youths make comments with proper knowledge of things, DSS is responsible only for issues that has direct threat on national security and most important prevent anything that would result in a coup or unconstitutional rule.

--Labour Party replies DSS

The Labour Party has said it was confident that Nigerians wouldn’t be intimidated into abandoning their legitimate, legal right to seek judicial redress to reclaim their mandate which was freely given to the LP Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi which was brazenly stolen.

Chief Spokesperson of the Labour Party, Dr Yunusa Tanko, said this in response to an alarm raised by the Department of State Services, in Abuja, yesterday.

The DSS alleged that some politicians were plotting to derail democracy through demonstrations and “obtaining frivolous court injunctions” to stop the inauguration of the President-Elect, Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu.

Yunusa said, “We are certain that Nigerians who want to take back their country will not be intimidated or blackmailed into abandoning a legitimate course.

“As a party, we have submitted ourselves to pursuing the course of justice through constitutional means, it will not serve as the interest of democracy collapses in Nigeria.

“We will like to ask, where was the DSS when our members and other Nigerians were being attacked, maimed and killed especially in Lagos?

“Where was the DSS when MC Oluomo and his ilk were engaged in ethnic profiling and violence against Nigerians of a certain ethnic nationality over their democratic choices?

“We needed the DSS to step up its game then but it failed. If it had done what it was supposed to, our nation would have been better for it.

“ Now that Nigerians have decided to follow laid down democratic procedures of drawing attention to injustice warnings and threats are being issued.

“The DSS ought to have issued these warnings from the beginning to show Nigerians that this country belongs to all of us and not the personal fiefdom of an individual or a group.

“We urge the DSS to send these words of caution to those bigots who are pushing this country to the brink of disaster with their utterances and violent conduct against other peace-loving Nigerians who do not subscribe to their political views or speak their language.”

PoliticsAtiku Cautions Fani-Kayode, Onanuga Over ‘Inciting’ Speeches Against Igbos by Bobloco(op): 8:25am On Mar 21, 2023
Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has cautioned the spokesmen for Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Council – Bayo Onanuga and Femi Fani-Kayode over alleged inciting speeches against Igbos in Lagos

Atiku, in a statement by his Special Assistant on Public Communication, Mr. Phrank Shaibu, said their statements were a reflection of their principal who two days after the elections, had failed to condemn the violence.

Atiku stated that the Nigerian constitution permits anyone in every part of the country to vote and be voted for regardless of religion, gender and tribe.

He said what Tinubu had done was to return and reverse some of the democratic gains that Nigeria had made.

He said: “Bayo Onanuga, a hitherto respected journalist who claimed to have contributed to the fight against dictatorship, is now supporting injustice and attacks on the Igbo for daring to vote in Lagos. This is what happens when you associate yourself with Bola Tinubu. Your mind and soul get corrupted.

“For Fani-Kayode, a man who was Nnamdi Kanu’s handbag, he has suddenly become an ethnic supremacist, encouraging the suppression of the Igbo people in Lagos all in a bid to impress his paymaster We never expected much from this Jekyll and Hyde.

“What the tribal bigots like Bayo Onanuga and Fani-Kayode will not tell you is that Ireti Kingibe, a Yoruba woman, has just been elected into the Senate to represent the FCT.

Atiku also lambasted Tinubu’s campaign for calling on the National Broadcasting Commission to fine TV and radio stations that continue to invite Peter Obi of the Labour Party for interviews challenging Tinubu’s legitimacy.

Atiku commended rights group, Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP), for asking a Federal High Court to bar the NBC from suspending the licence of broadcast stations

He said: “Tinubu’s campaign team has already given us a glimpse of what his administration will look like. It will be about the suppression of voters’ rights, unimaginable corruption, repression of freedom of speech, and a total compromise of government agencies.

“For a man who rose to power over the claim that he led the struggle for the actualization of the June 12 mandate, this is another Nigerian tragedy.”

PoliticsGov Ayade Sacks Special Advisers by Bobloco(op): 3:04pm On Mar 20, 2023
Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State has sacked two of his special advisers.

The sacked Aides include the Governor’s special adviser on politics in the office of the chief of staff, Peter Okaba. He is to be replaced by Romanus Abua with immediate effect.

Another is Tony Adah who was a special adviser to the governor on project monitoring. Godwin Orim is to replace him immediately.

Barrister Christian ita, chief press secretary and special adviser to Ayade on media, confirmed the sacking in two different letters he signed on Monday.

Political observers claim the sack may be a fallout of the Governor’s defeat at the Cross River North senatorial District election on February 25, 2023, by Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe of the PDP.

PoliticsUmahi Sacks 64 Coordinators, Over 100 Board Members, Commissions by Bobloco(op): 1:29pm On Mar 20, 2023
The Governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi, has sacked 64 development centre coordinators and over 100 board members and commissions.

Umahi made this known in a statement signed and issued to newsmen in Abakaliki by the Secretary to the State government, SSG, and Coordinating Commissioner, Mr. Ugbala Kenneth Igwe.

DAILY POST gathered that the sack of the 64 development centre coordinators, and over one hundred board members and commissions may not be unconnected with their performance and role played during the governorship and House of Assembly elections that took place in the 13 local government areas of the state on 18th March 2023.

The statement reads in parts: “The Governor of Ebonyi State, David Nweze Umahi, has approved immediate dissolution of Boards, Commissions, and Development Centre Coordinators, except Ebonyi State University Governing Council.

“The governor, however, tasked the sacked development centre coordinators to hand over all government property in their possession, including their official vehicles, to the office of the Secretary to the State Government and Coordinating Commissioner, on or before the close of work on Tuesday, 21st March 2023.

“Similarly, the Boards and Commissions are as well tasked to hand over government property in their possession to their parent Ministries on or before the close of work on Tuesday, 21st March 2023.”

Umahi further revealed the preparedness of his government to constitute a transition committee who, according to him, “will advise the Government whether to reconstitute, the Boards, Commissions and Development Centre Coordinators or leaves it for the incoming administration.”

The governor also noted that he had taken note of members of the Boards, Commissions and Development Centre Coordinators who served very well in their various offices and would accommodate them during reconstitution.
