Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State has sacked two of his special advisers. The sacked Aides include the Governor’s special adviser on politics in the office of the chief of staff, Peter Okaba. He is to be replaced by Romanus Abua with immediate effect. Another is Tony Adah who was a special adviser to the governor on project monitoring. Godwin Orim is to replace him immediately. Barrister Christian ita, chief press secretary and special adviser to Ayade on media, confirmed the sacking in two different letters he signed on Monday. Political observers claim the sack may be a fallout of the Governor’s defeat at the Cross River North senatorial District election on February 25, 2023, by Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe of the PDP. https://dailypost.ng/2023/03/20/gov-ayade-sacks-special-advisers/ |
The Umar Ganduje-led Kano government has appealed to the All Progressives Congress, APC, members and loyalists to stay calm after the outcome of Saturday’s election. Abba Kabir Yusuf of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, a protégé of ex-Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, won the tight-race gubernatorial poll. Yusuf polled 1,019,602 votes to defeat the incumbent Deputy Governor, Nasiru Yusuf-Gawuna of the APC, who secured. 892,705 votes. Reacting, the Kano authorities told the followers of the ruling party to ignore the provocations by the NNPP in the name of celebrations. Commissioner for Information, Muhammad Garba assured of the commitment of Governor Ganduje to protect lives and property. “The APC is analysing the election process and collation of results with a view to taking a decision at the appropriate time. “We appeal to members to continue to be resolute, loyal and faithful to the party,” the official added. https://dailypost.ng/2023/03/20/kano-election-ganduje-govt-speaks-as-nnpp-unseats-apc/ |
The Governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi, has sacked 64 development centre coordinators and over 100 board members and commissions. Umahi made this known in a statement signed and issued to newsmen in Abakaliki by the Secretary to the State government, SSG, and Coordinating Commissioner, Mr. Ugbala Kenneth Igwe. DAILY POST gathered that the sack of the 64 development centre coordinators, and over one hundred board members and commissions may not be unconnected with their performance and role played during the governorship and House of Assembly elections that took place in the 13 local government areas of the state on 18th March 2023. The statement reads in parts: “The Governor of Ebonyi State, David Nweze Umahi, has approved immediate dissolution of Boards, Commissions, and Development Centre Coordinators, except Ebonyi State University Governing Council. “The governor, however, tasked the sacked development centre coordinators to hand over all government property in their possession, including their official vehicles, to the office of the Secretary to the State Government and Coordinating Commissioner, on or before the close of work on Tuesday, 21st March 2023. “Similarly, the Boards and Commissions are as well tasked to hand over government property in their possession to their parent Ministries on or before the close of work on Tuesday, 21st March 2023.” Umahi further revealed the preparedness of his government to constitute a transition committee who, according to him, “will advise the Government whether to reconstitute, the Boards, Commissions and Development Centre Coordinators or leaves it for the incoming administration.” The governor also noted that he had taken note of members of the Boards, Commissions and Development Centre Coordinators who served very well in their various offices and would accommodate them during reconstitution. https://dailypost.ng/2023/03/20/umahi-sacks-64-coordinators-over-100-board-members-commissions/ |
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader in Lagos, Bode George, has condemned attacks by All Progressives Congress (APC) members and followers during Saturday’s election. He said the crimes against peaceful people trying to exercise their rights “is no different from war crimes and should be tried by the International Criminal Court (ICC)”. The politician called the governorship and house of assembly poll a sham and an utter disgrace to the sensibilities of Lagosians. George, in a statement, said he was “shattered and heartbroken” that democracy is in shambles in a state known for civility, humility, harmony and respect for the rule of law. “Never in my life have I seen such a despicable and dishonourable way of not allowing people to express their right to elect whoever they want.” The PDP chieftain said Lagos became a den of lunatics, saying the forefathers who founded Lagos – the Aworis and others – “will be angry in their graves”. “Power-hungry fellows turned everything upside down in their quest to retain power, with ‘Oro’ worshippers invoking spiritual insults on other Nigerians in broad daylight,” George added. Recalling soldiers deployed during the presidential and national assembly election, he quipped: “Who ordered that the soldiers should be withdrawn during the governorship and House of Assembly elections?” The retired General noted that due to threats from hoodlums, many potential voters returned home angrily without voting. George made reference to the “snatching of ballot boxes/papers by APC thugs”, the burning of election materials and the free use of dangerous weapons at polling units. The PDP stalwart further accused the ruling party of fuelling ethnic division, as its followers disenfranchised people because they are Igbo or look like Igbo. “Some voters were matcheted and shot. This is not the Lagos we used to be proud of. This election is a total disgrace to APC and Nigeria,” he fumed. George maintained APC Presidential Campaign Council spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga is not an indigene, warning him to stop speaking on Lagos issues with authority. https://dailypost.ng/2023/03/20/lagos-election-attacks-war-crime-by-apc-bode-george/ |
The Kano State government has imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew with a view to avoiding a breakdown of law and order following tensions generated from the collation of results of the Governorship and House of Assembly elections in the state. The Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Mallam Muhammad Garba, said this in a statement issued Monday morning. According to him, the decision was “to prevent hoodlums from causing chaos in the already tensed situation.” The commissioner called on people in the state to “remain indoors as security agents would not spare anyone or group bent on causing trouble.” https://punchng.com/breaking-kano-imposes-dusk-to-dawn-curfew-as-tension-rises/ |

The All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party are trailing each other in the governorship election results in 15 local government areas in Ogun State. While APC won in eight local government areas, the PDP won in seven councils out of the 15 councils declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission. The APC won in Odeda, Egbado-North, Egbado-South, Ewekoro, Ijebu-North, Ijebu-Ode, Ipokia and Abeokuta-North. The PDP won in Abeokuta-South, Ogun Waterside, Ijebu-North/East, Ikenne, Ijebu-East, Remo-North and Odogbolu. Meanwhile, the PDP state collation agent, Sunkanmi Oyejide, has called for a rerun in some polling units where elections were cancelled. Oyejide made the call while reacting to the huge number of polling units in Ikenne, Ogun Waterside and Remo-North where the election was cancelled due to the non-function of the Bimodal Voters Accreditation System machines and violence. However, the APC state collation agent, Yemi Adelani, however disagreed with him, saying it was not necessary. Adelani said the collation officer was right to have cancelled the votes due to the reasons given. The results of the election in 15 local government areas declared are below: 1.
