Good policy but we must watch these assemblage of complete knocked down (CKD) parts. Our experience in the very recent past should guide us. The assembly plants will purport to import parts but will end up importing complete vehicles with every and all items, even the ones we can produce here in Nigeria with little encouragement. They will just containerise everything and only come here to join with bolts and nuts (also imported). We must grow our power sector, we must bring back our steel industries and our Petrochemicals. Then we can truly have a Nigerian car. Finally, the actual manufacturers must be differentiated from the assembly plants and different levels of incentives given to both as they will play important roles in jump starting Nigeria's industrial revolution.
