dannyboii1: Go to school and read your book. Its your life, not the school's life. besides, once a school is accredited by the council, it has all it needs to train a medical doctor in Nigeria. its your own effort that makes you a "good" doctor. Admission is not an easy thing again these days... choose wisely. |

haryormidey: Bro, both schools are accredited by the council. that means they both have the required minimum standard to train a doctor in Nigeria. But if you have any other factor you want to consider; maybe state of origin(You shud have a beta chance of entering lasu if you are an indigene) its left to you 1 Like |

Having worked closely with chemistry students for a while, I'd like to give a pre-advice. If she's the medically inclined student, she can decide to opt in for biochemistry. she will have a closer tie with the medical line than being in chemistry. I said IF oo.. respect to Davido Okay, that's by the way. When it comes to job opportunities, A chemistry graduate will fare better than a biochemistry graduate sef. though I'm not supposed to compare but I feel I can just give a little comparison with a similar course. Now, when we were to undergo industrial training in 2016, Chemistry students got placements almost anywhere that products are being manufactured. food and drinks industries pharmaceutical industries petroleum industries(shell Nd chevron) research institutes paint, plastic , foam just name it!!!!!! there's no industry that produces goods which doesn't have a chemistry laboratory. as biochemistry students, we couldn't really fit in these companies as they did not have biochemistry labs, so we had to work in the chemistry labs or quality control. others settled for hospitals and medical laboratories, myself included. Given the above preface , this is where I'll start my advice. Chemistry is a very broad field. that is why she will have better job opportunities. We have Organic chemistry, inorganic chem, physical chemistry, colour and dye chemistry, food chemistry, analytical chemistry, environmental chemistry, textile chemistry, instrumentation chemistry... so so many fields. now let's face reality (sorry for my long sermon, I always like to touch everywhere necessary) in Nigeria, it would be very unwise to just sit with your bachelors degree and expect a very good job to land your way. besides, you Are not given much exposure to these fields at undergraduate level. so, immediately after nysc, she should start her masters degree. That will bolden her chances cos she will be quite versed in her choice of field. if she wants to lecture, that would be very fine too. a lot of universities offer chemistry in Nigeria. and I don't want to believe a PhD holder in chemistry will not be able to land a lecturing job in Nigeria. its not as bad as that yet. so, if it's lecturing. let her prepare her mind for BSc/B.Tech, MSc/M.Tech and a PhD. *drops mic. 1 Like |

Good morning everybody, I pray and hope someone replies this because I’ve not gotten any luck with previous posts. With my very limited knowledge of the practice out of school, I can assume that you do not want to practice medicine at all. cos the internship is compulsory to be licensed to practice. however, to gain admission for MPH program in most schools that offer it ,(NB- most of the schools run the MPH program only for licensed doctors & dentists) you will need to do your internship so you can be licensed fully. as I said earlier, its just from the very little I know. senior colleagues can do well to say something 2 Likes |

Edddie: i've not been to IMSU before but i can just give a little overview; based on the limits of my knowledge as to why you were told so. Some state universities are not well funded enough to cater for the expenses of running a medical school and teaching hospital. also, due to unstable govt policies and strike here and there, one cannot predict how the journey will be like. i'm not saying federal universities do not go on strike action. they also have their share of the negligence in funding. its just that you have a slightly better avenue to study medicine; when it comes to facilities, lecturers and calendars, if u are at a federal university. you can check out UNIZIK, UNN, FUNAI 1 Like |
