Hello medics....

Am a medical aspirant from cross rivers state... Should I apply unical or uniport... I will have higher chances at unical cus am an indigene but the problem is unical has a very bad reputation and no strong alumni... And pple say their medical students are not that bright

Go to school and read your book. Its your life, not the school's life. besides, once a school is accredited by the council, it has all it needs to train a medical doctor in Nigeria. its your own effort that makes you a "good" doctor.
Admission is not an easy thing again these days... choose wisely.

OK let me say something about this.
If you's exam difficulty is 10%, Ui own will be about 70%. My friends that I know their level have been trashing oou postume for years.

Secondly. Oou gives admission to those who pick them as second choice, apart from my own people I know, if Bobola07 can recall, there was a certain guy that posted it on ui aspirant thread few days to our postume that he has been offered admission by oou, asking if he should accept or prepare for ui postume. Another thing that will boost your opportunity is catchment Area, if you're from Ogun, you stand a good chance

All the best.

yeah I remember the guy.

Pls I saw u on UI thread
What did u score in oou p-utme
How was it compare to ui, and where u given admission in oou despite picking them has 2nd choice

good evening bro.

I didn't register for oou postume jare. I decided to put my hopes in one place, so I applied UI postume alone and to God be the glory, I was admitted.

UI postume structure
you'll do your jamb combination
25 questions each
that's 100 in total
paper and pencil test.
time- 1hr 30 mins (90mins)
No calculator

For aggregate, UI used (Jamb/eight)+(postume/2)

the cutoff marks are attached to this post

I don't think the list would be released undecided probably because, some names are yet to be uploaded and some candidates haven't accept their admission....while some has mistakenly rejected theirs. grin

Jamb also, were yet to upload some names...while UI would be thinking that, those Candidates are yets to accept their Admission

Please i am confused, which should i pivk for medicine between unilag or lasu

Bro, both schools are accredited by the council. that means they both have the required minimum standard to train a doctor in Nigeria.

But if you have any other factor you want to consider; maybe state of origin(You shud have a beta chance of entering lasu if you are an indigene)

its left to you

Having worked closely with chemistry students for a while, I'd like to give a pre-advice.

If she's the medically inclined student, she can decide to opt in for biochemistry. she will have a closer tie with the medical line than being in chemistry.

I said IF oo.. respect to Davido grin

Okay, that's by the way. When it comes to job opportunities, A chemistry graduate will fare better than a biochemistry graduate sef. though I'm not supposed to compare but I feel I can just give a little comparison with a similar course.

Now, when we were to undergo industrial training in 2016, Chemistry students got placements almost anywhere that products are being manufactured.
food and drinks industries
pharmaceutical industries
petroleum industries(shell Nd chevron)
research institutes
paint, plastic , foam

just name it!!!!!!

there's no industry that produces goods which doesn't have a chemistry laboratory. as biochemistry students, we couldn't really fit in these companies as they did not have biochemistry labs, so we had to work in the chemistry labs or quality control. others settled for hospitals and medical laboratories, myself included.

Given the above preface , this is where I'll start my advice.

Chemistry is a very broad field. that is why she will have better job opportunities. We have Organic chemistry, inorganic chem, physical chemistry, colour and dye chemistry, food chemistry, analytical chemistry, environmental chemistry, textile chemistry, instrumentation chemistry...

so so many fields.

now let's face reality (sorry for my long sermon, I always like to touch everywhere necessary)

in Nigeria, it would be very unwise to just sit with your bachelors degree and expect a very good job to land your way. besides, you Are not given much exposure to these fields at undergraduate level. so, immediately after nysc, she should start her masters degree. That will bolden her chances cos she will be quite versed in her choice of field.

if she wants to lecture, that would be very fine too. a lot of universities offer chemistry in Nigeria. and I don't want to believe a PhD holder in chemistry will not be able to land a lecturing job in Nigeria. its not as bad as that yet. so, if it's lecturing. let her prepare her mind for BSc/B.Tech, MSc/M.Tech and a PhD.

*drops mic.

Good morning everybody, I pray and hope someone replies this because I’ve not gotten any luck with previous posts.

I’m almost done with medical school and i am interested in public health, so I was wondering, after writing my mdcn exam, can I forgo the internship and go straight for my masters or do I have to do that too.
Thank you in advance for your advice

With my very limited knowledge of the practice out of school, I can assume that you do not want to practice medicine at all.

cos the internship is compulsory to be licensed to practice.

however, to gain admission for MPH program in most schools that offer it ,(NB- most of the schools run the MPH program only for licensed doctors & dentists) you will need to do your internship so you can be licensed fully.

as I said earlier, its just from the very little I know.

senior colleagues can do well to say something

Unimed is a state university... with more priority for indigenes of Ondo state.

gud day haus: plenty idobale 2 my many senior colleagues, u r seriously the front horses that the back horses observed 2 leap.

I shud b d happiest person on earth haven got admited into oau dental & dental surgery.

I had run 4 admission to oau Med nd surgery from 2013... sometimes geting close and other times far from it, nd sometimes surpassing dentistry's cutoff mark... but oversight nd lack of insights had made me dash Away precious marks to the Senate of oau.

choosing dentistry last year was not out of fustration but rather experiencial wisdom nd more insight coupled with (divine understanding) underscore the magic decision.

though am learning to fall in love with this wonderful decipline, I am more than convince it will catch my attention.... or wat am I saying... it's got me already... I will give my very best to it...

I also Which 2 summarize hw the journey went wit me as per oau...
jamb (50%)---------281/400:
281/8=35.125
p-utme (40%)------32/40 or 320/400
score=32
ssce (10%) ----------
A=10, B2=9, B3=8, C4=7, C5=6, C6=5
eg, 5A's= 5×10= 50.
then, 50/5= 10
mine was; B3, 3C5, C6
8+6+6+6+5= 31
31/5=6.2
aggregate = utme + putme + ssce = 100%
= 35.125 + 32 + 6.2 = 73.3% or 293.2/400
merit for dentistry = 73.3% or 293.2/400
I was number 21st on the merit list.
it all by the grace of God.
I Hope this will help someone.

once again I give my idobale to all dental & dental surgery in the house, nd also unwavering respect to all dental student, prospects in the rum.
my advice nevertheless to all medical prospects is that "go to the ant and learn"...... be wise and smart......... this noble arm is open for u..... don't give up.... keep pushing

wow!!!!!!?
this is amazing.

congratulations brother. welcome to the club

I want to go for mbbs in Imo state but People keep telling me that studying Medicine and surgery in Imo state University (IMSU) is a waste of time. I want to know why and what are the alternatives. Please docs I need immediate response so as to help me in my field of study.

i've not been to IMSU before but i can just give a little overview; based on the limits of my knowledge as to why you were told so. Some state universities are not well funded enough to cater for the expenses of running a medical school and teaching hospital. also, due to unstable govt policies and strike here and there, one cannot predict how the journey will be like.

i'm not saying federal universities do not go on strike action. they also have their share of the negligence in funding. its just that you have a slightly better avenue to study medicine; when it comes to facilities, lecturers and calendars, if u are at a federal university. you can check out UNIZIK, UNN, FUNAI
