Wow What a wonderful and insightful trend on MB I have been using my ML320 SUV now for 5 years without any problem whatsoever. But recently I saw engine oil on the cover of the water container...... i opened the engine cover and there were traces of water. But when i gauged the oil using the oil-stick, there was no trace of water in the engine. The technician advised that I changed the top gaskets.....and he has given me a bill that includes 4 top gaskets, valves, surfacing of 2 cylinders, and general servicing. I am skeptical of this advice as the car is still performing well and does not show any signs of fault whatsoever. Kindly advise me on what to do |

I started out as HR consultant on April 15,1990 and will be pleased to share some of my experiences here: 1. 80% of applications received are not related to or do not meet the set criteria of the job adverts. 2. The Labour Law requests that we advertise in a well spread National daily ( I hope the law is reviewed to include internet) 3. Only 20% meets the requirements of the recruitment exercise. 4. What HR Consultants/Recruiters look for are so simple: a) Read the advert well and respond to it as if you are doing a comprehension test. What most [b]unsuccessful [/b]applicants do is to just send a prepared CV and forward to the recruiter as if they are just sowing seed in an infertile field. When a candidate forward the same documents he has forwarded to 50 other companies to me ....i am naturally going to ignore the CV cos my company was in copy!!! You cant advertise for a position by copying the advertiser what you sent to another company. Whether you are using computer aided shortlisting or manual, the key advert phrases are our watchword. So spend 30 minutes on each advert you are responding to, it gives you an edge. b) When we call you for interview, we definitely are looking for one thing: Person fit which means whether your personality fits with the documents submitted and whether the competencies displayed in your documentation is truly a reflection of your personality, training, comportment and exposure. Nothing delights a recruiter more than a candidate that has a well prepared CV (error and "gbagaun" free), has done his homework/research with regards to the firm recruiting and follows on the interview conversation with utmost concentration. Pls dont start to pray during the interview........it is way too late a time to pray!!!. 30% of people i ve interviewed in 21 years cannot separate personal religious beliefs from work!!!. The Person fit is a critical component of the job, and the most important part of this is adaptability, eagerness to learn, willingness to be available to do the job, recruiting is not much about the ability but availability and adaptability. 60% of candidates interviewed ask for salaries higher than budgeted amounts. Your emphasis at interviews should not be what you can get from the company but what you can help the company achieve. The rewards will follow. sooper rescue: With the growing trend of failed automatic transmissions, it is imperative that you use the right transmission fluids for your vehicle. There are no fake transmission fluids in Nigeria, it is the motorist who is not aware of the fluid that their vehicles require and as such uses any fluid that is cheap and affordable. You find people using Abro on a Murano and you begin to agonise on their behalf. Why is this common like finding a motorist with a blackberry phone putting Dexron 11 ATF on a vehicle that requires Type IV when he can easily google the type of ATF to use or like a gentleman that used Dexron 111 on a 2008 Mercedes Sclass. Why buy a car you cannot maintain? As we prepare for the festive season associated with mass movement, do this for your vehicle: check if there is sludge in your engine, if your ATF is black or has a burnt smell, if your gear has shifting problem, and also check if your tyres are winter or all season tyres with reduced speed capability. If you are buying new tyres, ensure that they are all traction A, temperature A. HR Practitioners like me, have in most cases only your application letter and CV to make informed judgements in less than 5 minutes per CV. At that stage what separates a candidate from another is his/her grade in school. Remember also, that sometimes you can have 25,000 applications for just 20 positions. We also look at what we think your competencies are and try to do a person fit. When we call for interviews, it is this fit that we are looking for, and if Intelligent Quotient carries a high weight in the fit, your grade at school is the only measure available to the HR practitioner. Dont worry, there are jobs that require less of IQ and more of brawn, you may have more chances in landing such jobs or rather proceed to do an MBA. Thank you 6 Likes |

nkem Kalu: How about a boss who went out with his employee and worked late in the night with the employee at Victoria Island....then dropped the employee at Apple junction by 1 a.m and gave him N1,500 to go and look for a hotel to sleep. He never even bothered to drop the staff at the hotel he hopes the employee will get at N1,500 per night and he drove off expecting that employee to be in the office by 8.a.m same day? MEANWHILE, THE EMPLOYER IS LIVING IN ONE OF THE BIGGEST AND BEST HOUSES IN FESTAC AND IS STUPENDIOUSLY RICH.I have heard these lazy lines severally in my working life. Employees today will become employers tomorrow and the work ethics u imbibe now will stay with you. Working Late: It is correct for the employer to work late make money and come and distribute it to staff.......but it is wrong when the employee does work late. Biggest and Best House: He worked his way to the top as evidenced by you, working with him for one night. Stupendously Rich: He managed N1.5k several nights for him to save money and become wealthy and that is the same principles he is trying to teach our wasteful generation. You have a good boss, My former boss would never give u a dime at that time and would never mention it. Today, he made me a good thinker!!! |
