Betty Mbereko (40), from Mwenezi in Masvingo, who was widowed 12 years ago, has been cohabiting with her first child, Farai Mbereko (23). She confirms that she is six months pregnant and that she has decided it is better to “marry” her son because she does not want to marry her late husband’s young brothers, whom she says are coveting her.

Betty stunned a village court last week when she said the affair with her son had begun three years earlier. She said after spending a lot of money sending Farai to school following the death of her husband, she felt she had a right to his money and no other woman was entitled to it.


Farai said he was more than prepared to marry his mother and would pay off the ilobola balance his father had left unpaid to his grandparents. “I know my father died before he finished paying the bride price and I am prepared to pay it off,” he said.

“It is better to publicize what is happening because people should know that I am the one who made my mother pregnant. Otherwise they will accuse her of promiscuity.”

But local headman Nathan Muputirwa says: “We cannot allow this to happen in our village, this is a bad omen indeed. In the past they would have to be killed but today we cannot do it because we are afraid of the police.” He warned them to break off their marriage or leave the village immediately.

However, the mother and son have left the village for an unknown destination.

Last weekend Nigerian singer Omawumi was a guest on Rubbin' Minds, on Channels TV.

In the revealing interview, Omawumi told show host Ebuka Obi-Uchendu that she once worked as a waitress in a local beer parlour in Warri, Delta State.

'My mum had a glorified beer parlour in Warri where she used to sell Nkwobi and Isiewu and I used to help out. In fact I was the one who used to make the Nkwobi and Isiewu', Omawumi explained.

On her being a single parent,Omawumi had this to say,"I didn't come with that intention to be a single parent, however, now that I have found myself in that position, I'm going to enjoy and walk the stride until when God brings that man that will come."

The singer came to national fame in 2007 after she featured in the West African Idol and emerged second. in 2010, she released her debut 'Wonder Woman'. In February 2013, she released her second album 'The Lasso of Truth'.

A mad man with a local made double barrel gun has been arrested by the police.

The mad man simply identified as Monday was arrested in an abandoned school, a place described as a hide out for armed robbers according to police investigation.

Some residents believed that monday is an insane man while others believed he's the armourer to the armed robbers.

It was learnt that Monday usually stays at a refuge dump near the school where he was collecting money from cart pushers who came to dump refuge.

However, the police are still doing their investigation to know how the suspect got the gun and what he was doing with it.

In what seemed a bizarre, sale of babies is booming in Abia State, according to feelers from the police command which reeled out statistics at a briefing in Umuahia yesterday.

The Police Commissioner, Mr. Usman Tilli Abubakar, said that a 20-year-old father of one had sold his only son for N350,000 to enable him procure a Greek visa.

The suspect, Mr. Onyekachi Ekwelum, who resides at 13 B, Nwalozie Street, Aba, was reported to the police by his wife, Ozioma. The 20-year-old wife had sensed that her husband was up to some alleged evil plans when the man took his only son out only to return alone without the baby. The baby, Oluebubechukwu
Ekwelum, who is barely six months old, was taken by his father to his buyers and left there.


When the man returned home, he could not explain the whereabouts of the child. Suspecting that something was amiss, his wife rushed to the police station and reported the incident.

The police swung into action and arrested the father of the child who took them to the buyers and the child was rescued. The child was handed over to the mother, the suspect has been arraigned.

Today, Monday, April 8, 2013, the candlelight procession and tribute night in honour of late veteran actor, Justus Esiri will be held in Lagos.

The event is put together by the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) to herald the final journey home of late Esiri on April 12 in Delta State.

Today's event will take place at O'Jez Restaurant inside the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos at 5pm. The late actor died in February 2013.

The AGN has invited all to be at the event tonight to honour the departed Nollywood icon. Dress code for the event is white.

Sleeping in a Coffin?

Point of correction, I do not sleep in a casket, I sleep on my bed, it's big and comfy, I only lay in my "casket"when I do my meditation because it helps me to be focused, it tells me more about the Imminence of death. My casket is a reminder. It wakes me up from slumber. It tells me, "guy, you have got little or no time left, wake up, be creative and work".

Of course, when I read some of the comments of my people, I know a good number of us are ill-informed about quite a number of things. I think it is more of what the casket represents that shocks my people and they start reading meanings into it, depending on their level of understanding. But one question is, what if the same wood that was used to build the casket was used to make a sofa chair?
May be, all the hullabaloo about me sitting on a chair wouldn't have been there in the first place? So when people vocalize their disapproval of my message via the image of a casket, I understand that they do that from a position of Fear, fear of what the casket represents - Death. So whatever people fear they antagonize. But, the fact that I have reminded myself and even you about death does not really change a thing.It won't draw your death near, and it won't even shift it away. All it does is simply a reminder, to thread carefully.

A rumor circulating around town has it that one of Nigeria’s fast rising musical artiste ‘OBA DC’ who started his career with a local successful single “LARIMO” released summer 2010 and has performed in and out of the country at several top events was nabbed recently for allegedly raping the super busty actress COSSY Orjiakor.

Monalisa Chinda's beau, Lanre Nzeribe, serves celebrity blogger, Stella Dimokokorkus, a petition through his lawyer, asking her to reverse a story about him on her blog and publish a well crafted apology along with the first demand within 48 hours or she will be dragged to court of law where he will be demanding for the sum of five hundred million naira (N500,000,000) as damages caused by the report.

And what's the story?


Stella once published the list of women Lanre had dated in the past including Stella Damascus who is married to Emeka Nzeribe, Lanre's cousin.

However, Stella has stated categorically on her blog that she refused to be scared into a chicken's net by Lanre and his lawyer, denying ever saying Lanre dated Stella Damascus.
