franvincoop:
Military respect civilian authority?
As in military should follow Wike’s orders?.
How many military men did you see in Wike's entourage? -10?
Go and dismiss the officer now, even the CDS that Wike called could not tell that officer to stand down, only the person who gave that officer the order to be there can make him stand down.
Tinubu cannot give an order to a General or a Colonel or even to officer Yerima, sorry but the military does not work that way.
There is a clear chain of command.
Tinubu will give the order to the CDS who will then order the General or Colonel.
Wike a bloody civilian giving an order to a military officer is like carrying water in a basket.
President Tinubu cannot do what? You see why I warned against letting that officer go unpunished? You perpetuate myths like this. It is also why I am calling for the resignation of the CDS. Some people erroneously believe the CDS does not have the power to order those soldiers out of there and they are wrong. This is what happens when the right thing is not done. Now this element I quoted said even our president can't order a general. A pity.
PoliticsRe: Wike-Naval Officer Clash: Ex-Generals Fume As FG Orders Probe by BondRiv: 5:03pm On Nov 13, 2025
They believe they are above the law. I don't blame them, since the civilians in power are letting them off the hook. Fume for just Pete Hegseth, not even Trump and see the result. Accountability is an alien concept in Nigeria.
PoliticsRe: Defence Minister Matawalle Slams Wike: Service Chiefs Advised Him To Wait But... by BondRiv: 4:56pm On Nov 13, 2025
What a shameless thing to say. Wait for what? You think he is like you guys who don't know your job. I feel sorry for this country. This is how they wait while terrorists raid communities. What will it cost to tell those soldiers to leave? Will heaven fall? Ok, now how many days since the incident, where is the result of your inquiry? Who else is in the position to know someone has a title to land, if not the FCT Minister and employees in the FCTA? Jokers. The former CNS ought to apologise to Nigerians and the Minister. In a serious country, there would have been consequences.

Don't mind them. See as they (military personnel) are supporting themselves. I feel sorry for the majority of these civilians cheering this nonsense. Terrorism they (military) can't eradicate. Boko boys are there vacationing in Sambisa. We better do away with this military, and know it is just civilians.
PoliticsRe: Nigerians Praise Young Soldier For Standing Up To Powerful Minister - BBC by BondRiv: 10:41pm On Nov 12, 2025
Count me out of those gullible Nigerians. I make use of my brain and keep sentiments in check.

Anyway, the highlights of this article for me:

"However, it is not clear why the soldiers were there.

The BBC has asked the Nigerian military for comment."

Even BBC is bewildered. What a country.
PoliticsRe: They Put Their Lives On The Line - Tinubu Hails Military by BondRiv: 10:36pm On Nov 12, 2025
AMINDA:
Buratai was right. What Wike did yesterday could easily have set off a chain reaction that would be detrimental to the stability of this country, especially in this charged times of domestic and foreign tension.
So Wike is the problem and the former CNS and his errand boy are off the hook? People who try to help this country are just wasting their time. See the cheers for the illegal act. Now you say set off a chain reaction. The people deserve the government they get and condition of the country. We are absolutely creating our own reality. The majority of the people in this country have created this nightmare, whether they are conscious about it or not, A country with people accustomed to bondage and servility. It is a pity. No wonder even the politicians act with impunity typical of military rule. That was where they learnt it.
PoliticsRe: They Put Their Lives On The Line - Tinubu Hails Military by BondRiv: 10:24pm On Nov 12, 2025
He always takes the easy way out. A man concerned only with holding on to power. "It is my turn." He may not know it but he was disrespected too. Quite cowardly. I won't be surprised if they are emboldened to do worse and remove him. This is why the country remains stagnated.
PoliticsRe: Wike Called The Chief Of Defence Staff During A Heated Exchange With Yerima by BondRiv: 10:11pm On Nov 12, 2025

Not only is the military right, but if the political establishment is wise, they should be sensitive to this incident. It serves as a warning that the population has deep disdain for them, and also a warning that it could be very warmly receptive to the idea of a military government. That is dangerous in itself because democracy was very hard won, and the political elite should see that their conduct has alienated them from the masses in a way that could threaten the continuation of civil rule.
The summary of what you attempted to mystify is that most Nigerians are gullible and ignorant. The worst thing that will happen to this country is military rule. Not like it has not happened in the past. Hence why the country appears hopeless when critically examined. Doing the same thing and expecting a different result. Cheering rubbish. A product of nepotism acting on illegal orders is now a hero.
PoliticsRe: Wike Called The Chief Of Defence Staff During A Heated Exchange With Yerima by BondRiv: 9:57pm On Nov 12, 2025
These are the characters that will end terrorism? What a country. We should better get rid of this so-called military and know what we actually have. We have nothing. Rubbish.

The military is not under the control of any minister talkless of fct minister. Who is he? Is he the first fct minister in Nigeria?

The military is not even under the governors control. Dey play.
Yet in the most powerful military in world, a civilian authority outranks all the military officers and we are not even talking about the president. Pete Hegseth, U.S. Secretary of Defense controls the Pentagon. Here, in Nigeria we are glorifying rubbish because of our past military rule. We don't appreciate democracy. Everything mustn't come from President Tinubu. Powers are delegated. Something I appreciate about the U.S. system.

Which rubbish future leader. It is his father who owns the land. He's simply hiding under military name to do what he's doing
Apparently, the guy is a product of nepotism. That is why he has that arrogant demeanour while speaking with the CDS. The CDS should resign. He has shown he is not respected and commands no authority. If it were the police, a call from the IGP would have sent them out. Same with other agencies and their staff. Here, you have former CNS staff issuing orders. We must do something about this dysfunctional military system.

Because Tinubu is very very street smart and restrained. He will not stop low to engage a subordinate in public. To prove what that you are powerful.

Wike was trying to play a very high stakes game here and he lost woefully...he wanted to create the impression that even the military is afraid of him...so everyone else should.

Unfortunately soldier not to talm of an Officer will never let a civilian intimidate him in public especially when he is obeying a lawful order giving to him by a retired Chief of Naval Staff.

Yerima is the CSO to the Retired Chief of Naval Staff who ordered them to stop the incessant threat and police harassment by the council men.

They had submitted all the paper work to them and if wike had legal grounds to remove the owner of the property he would have presented it.

The funny thing is that the Naval ratings that were visible were not the only ones there. There would have been a lorry load of them on standby .

Today would have been a blood bath and Wike would not have gone unscathed.

Soldiers are trained to embrace death. Policemen are not built the same.
Glorifying rubbish. Yet Boko boys, they can't defeat. Staff of the FCTA should be proud of their boss. He stood up for them. Wike showed leadership. Military officers can't go about obstructing and harassing civilians. Why should a former Chief of Naval Staff have serving officers in the Navy as personal security? For what? This country is actually a joke. Even a former president shouldn't have such. Is that what you see in the USA where you copied their system? You won't copy good things. Disorganised system.

Honestly, I pity this country. The CDS couldn't even do anything. Another big shame. Now I see why the war on terrorism can't be won. Even former military officers are giving serving members of the military orders. They shouldn't even be their personal guards.

Many people don't understand how the military works. A soldier obeys his superior. The only civilian that they can change an instruction is the commander in chief of the armed forces.

Soldiers ideally are not beholden to civilian authority. Why do you think they have court marshal's and do not try their cases in the normal courts.
Sarsaparilla524:
If the lieutenant's last order came from a vice admiral ,a 3 star general in the navy and a senior colleague to the present CDS, no army chief currently can overrule it. The only person who can overrule his last order is President Ahmed Bola Tinubu who is the commander in chief of the armed forces.

The lieutenant go bounce even the vice principal and senate president join.

This is not the time to infuriate the men in khakhi.
Wike should tread carefully and totally avoid them.
He was uncouth by calling the lieutenant a fool,by extension the military and everything it embodies alongside the nation
Tinubu must replace him if reelected .
It is only in Nigeria you read things like these. Who controls the Pentagon? Pete Hegseth, a civilian is the U.S. Secretary of War (formerly Secretary of Defense), mention that person in the U.S. military that will disobey an order from him? There is no general or whoever who outranks Pete Hegseth's civilian authority in the military. Let you guys keep deceiving yourselves in this country.

This Stockholm Syndrome some of you have with previous military rule in Nigeria is a problem. That is why they make some of you do frog jumps and lie in gutters. Wike was even too nice. Go to any NYSC camp and see how a soldier will react to a corper saying they are not foolish after being called so.

This is a civilian government.

He publicly called a uniformed, commissioned officer “Big Fool” in front of his men—an unforgivable act in the ARMY. Those soldiers will never forget.

Tinubu is eroding morale in the armed forces. Rotating chiefs of the Army, Navy, or Air Force every few weeks won’t help when the junior officers and rank-and-file have lost respect.
You are concerned about the wrong things. One of the problems of Nigeria. Go to the root of the issue. The foundation is faulty. You ignore the crux of the matter and start analysing bubbles.
PoliticsRe: If Anything Happens To You, Your Family Will Suffer- Army To Police (video) by BondRiv: 10:37pm On Nov 11, 2025

PoliticsRe: Osita Chidoka: Wike Should Apologise To The Naval Officer by BondRiv:
Apologise for what? In analysing an issue, I go to the root, instead of dancing around chasing shadows. If the foundation is faulty, nothing will stand.

This fellow is just another charlatan and attention seeker who never speaks the truth. Always looking to score cheap and useless political points.

I want to read about the punishment of the soldier and his superior on this platform, if we are being serious. Enforcing illegality and expecting to be treated with dignity. Are you kidding me?

I support the FCT Minister's actions 100%. Did that soldier have the right to be there and also prevent the Minister's access to the land? How dare he? What are we even talking about in this country? Is this a military regime? What a country.

Lol.Someone they are going to send on a course soon. You think the military as an organisation is a club of sycophants?
Let me help you. Ask yourself why the CDS didn't order the officer to stand down, when Wike passed the phone to him? He simply couldn't.
It is foolish pandering by brainwashed citizens that empowers politicians who act our of order. Did the FCT minister need to go there when he got the report? No. But because you folks have hyped him into a demigod, he went with camera and got disgraced.
That only tells me that the CDS needs to resign. As simple as that. His conduct in this incident has spoken volumes. Nothing will change in the fight against terrorism. Our NSA doesn't know his job too. When we are serious, we will change this country. I'm yet to see that seriousness, except in the FCT Minister, and I commend him for his courage. A whole CDS doesn't know the law. Shame!

What a shame!!
Very big shame. What I like about the U.S. is that they know how to deal with people like this. Not this nonsense we do here. Just imagine. An incident that captures why Nigeria is the way it is. Go and defeat terrorism, they won't. Nonsense.

Even who? Who ranks higher than President Tinubu in the military? Do you know the meaning of Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces? Some of you are truly ignorant.

Anyway, what I want to see and read soon is the punishment of this soldier and his superior who gave the illegal order. That is all. Totally an illegal assignment carried out and enforced by that soldier.

The type of reasoning stagnating Nigeria. It is a pity. We have laws in this country, and your boss can give you an illegal order.

From the facts of this case, it is clear that the soldier was on an illegal assignment. Even obstructing a public office holder from performing his functions, thereby violating our laws. Both the giver and enforcer of the illegal order must be punished. That is the language the military understands.

The president was disrespected and can't afford to be soft on this issue, else he will set a bad precedent. Soldiers must see that actions have consequences. Civilians are in control. This is not a military regime.

Young soldier knew which yeye right? Try it in the U.S. No wonder the war on terrorism remains elusive. People sit in their bedrooms and order soldiers. The FCT Minister has the absolute right to have unhindered access to that place. That soldier was on an illegal assignment and must be punished to send a strong message to others. Next time, someone will stop Tinubu. This can't be condoned. We keep joking in this country, and wonder why the country is a joke.

Just imagine. No wonder Nigeria is like this. This is a gross disrespect to the President. Whoever gave that instruction must be summoned and arrested. The height of impunity.

The military has no right to do that. Undermining a civilian authority? This is how coup starts. President Tinubu should address this insubordination with urgency.

They said they were following instructions? What stupid instructions? When will they ever follow instructions to end terrorism? Nonsense. This is where you see them flexing muscle.

President Tinubu should do the needful. They must know they had no right to do that. Totally unacceptable. Those soldiers and whoever gave them that illegal instructions must be punished.

A call should have come from Aso Villa to send those soldiers out of there. This our president sef.
