KoiceReloaded: I posted those links to make a statement. I didn't read them, cuz honestly, I was lackadaisical towards what they had to say. Mine and your links are opinions of random columnists, and only a weak minded lily would misconstrue their opinionated views for gospel truth.
Again I reiterate, posting opinion of others won't free you from the hole you have dug yourself into. Stop posting irrelevant opinion of others and instead, do an extensive research on feminism.
The end. Don't let the door hit you on your way out. Shame. Anyone that has reas what we both posted knows that you are the one that needs to read further on feminism. My links represent the opinions of numerous respected feminists who base their opinions on logic. Your opinion is supported by your own imagination. |

Go to wikipedia and read up on Feminism, after which, do your research on empowerment of women. You are the one in a hole. Your links do not in any way support what you said. In fact, one of them even contradicts what you have said. The irony of you telling me to read when you clearly did not even know what the bechdel test was. KoiceReloaded: So you're still going on about this, something I had forgotten. You're so wrong on the bolded though. Seems you don't know what feminism is all about.
The whole point of feminism is to fight for parity for women. To empower women to do more within the society, to be part of decision making process that they are previously denied. Feminism is not willing to be a second class citizen because of your gender. Feminism is the process that engenders power in women over their own lives, society, and in their communities. Women are empowered when they are able to access the opportunities available to them without constraints, and restrictions such as in education, profession and lifestyle.
Being a housewife or a "damsel" (whatever that signifies) undermines the very essence of feminism. A housewife is someone who is willing to be an object for their husband's gratification. A willing housewife is not a feminist for the fact that she doesn't want to be empowered. She doesn't want to be part of a decision making process. Feminism is not for all women, because not every womon has the compulsory qualities needed to procure enlightenment.
Pertaining to your number 2, I concur that a female lead can be anti-feminist, which is why I emphasized "strong" in the "strong female lead". Some female leads are just there to promote misogyny and the misconceptions that women are dumb. These female leads are the antithesis of strong, and you're liable to find them in B-horror movies.
Margaret Thatcher was a feminist, even if she didn't know it. The first female UK prime minister, she reached the apex of political potency, and had men quaking in their boots. She was nicknamed the "Iron Lady" for a reason, you know? Thus, tagging her anti-feminist doesn't make any sense. It's ironic.
You should read more on the subject, and stop this Bechdel test bullshit. That shit doesn't factor in here. Hilarious. Let me just point out where you are wrong for posterity sake. Here is a list of your working notions. 1. A housewife cannot be a real feminist. 2. The bechdel test is irrelevant in determining a feminist movie. 3. Margaret Thatcher was a feminist. 4. A strong female lead guarantees a feminist movie. Here is the Guardian uk (a British newspaper) arguing that Margaret Thatcher is not a feminist https://amp.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2013/apr/09/margaret-thatcher-no-feministHere is the uk independent explaining why feminists do not like Margaret Thatcher https://www.indy100.com/article/womans-hour-margaret-thatcher-feminist-bbc-response-twitter-8896286?ampHere is something you should read up on feminism and being a housewife (it is a bout the freedom of choice. Being a housewife is okay as long as it is a choice) https://amp.theatlantic.com/amp/article/274184/ |

alexistaiwo: KoiceReloaded, hope you are being handsomely remunerated for taking JeromeBlack to school? No free lunch in Freetown You exposed your biased hand too soon. Typical Nigerian ignorance. You dont know the facts of the case but you must support the guy that you like. Ogbeni, first Google what the bechdel case is. That is even the first step in assessing feminist media. Secondly, if you had any sense, you would understand that koicereloaded's whole premise is wrong- having a strong female lead does not mean that a movie is feminist. Here are the reasons why. 1. Not every woman is "strong". A very big misconception of feminism is that it advocates for strong women. Some women enjoy being housewives, some women enjoy being damsels. What matter is that they are given a choice and opportunity to achieve their goals. Feminism is intersectional. Feminism is for all women. 2. A strong female lead can be an anti-feminist herself. Take Margaret Thatcher. A prime minister. A strong woman who was at odds with with women's rights. A movie with her as the central figure wouldn't be feminist if it focused on her policies. Also note that she was surrounded by men in the parliament. Bechdel test might not even work here. Theresa May is another example self. I rest my case. Anyone who wants to learn will learn. DannyKoice: Please, tell me what feminism entails? Feminism is the advocacy for equal rights for women. It takes many forms. A movie is feminist if 1. It discusses central feminist issues 2. It subverts sexist cliches 3. It passes the bechdel test 4. As a subset of number 2, it has to be a good movie. Female driven movies were rubbish and few. |

TV/Movies › Re: What Movie Are You Watching Now? by Born2Freak(f): 5:53pm On Nov 25, 2019 |
DannyKoice: As regards the bolded, technically, every movie is a cash grab, some just do it better than others.
.......................................
A film that has strong female lead(s) is always going to be pro-feminism, it's inevitable... It doesn't matter the genre or premise, the overarching theme that will invariably shine through is thus; what a man can do, a woman can do it better... A woman can be stronger and more astute than a man, and so on.
If you're going to reprehend Charlie's Angel (2019) for promoting what you dubbed "fake feminism", then you may as well paint all the other films that have strong female leads with the same brush, including Anna (2019) that you loved so much.
Charlie's Angels suffer from poor script, mediocre directing, and editing amongst other things, not because it promoted fake feminism. In an alternate settings, it would be a masterpiece. Let me repeat myself Born2Freak: A movie isnt feminist because of its cast. It would do you well to understand the meaning of feminism. |
TV/Movies › Re: What Movie Are You Watching Now? by Born2Freak(f): 4:21pm On Nov 25, 2019 |
DannyKoice: I never said you supported Charlie's...
My point is, as a "woke niggah", you shouldn't be slating Charlie's Angels for "fake feminism".
Charlie's Angel franchise wasn't a recent phenomenon, you know? The 2019 edition was but a 3rd installment of a reboot of the original Charlie's Angels films that started and ended before you were born. If the principal theme was feminism, then it ain't fake.
For the fact that you slated it for "fake feminism" when the feminism ain't fake, has clearly called your so-called "woke(ness)" into question. I know the history of Charlie's Angels. The original one was a classic. However, this 2019 Charlie's Angels is nothing more than a cash grab on a once popular movie franchise. A movie isnt feminist because of its cast. In fact, there is a whole feminist literature that criticizes capitalism. Using feminism as a marketing tool is wrong. Why not be fair to women for the reason of fairness and not for profit? Be good for goodness sake. |
