There are lots of things that affect people going to cinemas...

The cinema culture has been on a downward trend even abroad...

It's not just money, but time, stress, convenience etc

I didn't see Avatar 2 despite wanting to see it so badly because of convenience...
The movie came out during festive period when most cinemas are stacked full which leads to waiting in long queues for hours...

Add time in traffic in Lagos since the cinemas aren't that close to my house, and also the fact that the people I could have seen it with also have a busy schedule...

Like I said there are many factors to consider before spending hours to go watch a movie...

Even saw some posts on Reddit where people complained about the stress and inconvenience of spending 7 hours on the road, queues, etc instead of waiting to watch it on a streaming service at home

Personally anytime I think about the stress of going to cinemas to watch a movie, I get a rethink...since the closest to my house is always pretty crowded...
I only go when I want to watch with some people

1. Rules 8 and 9 of Nairaland are against false information and plagiarism. These box office posters just post any rubbish about box office without even fact checking them. They also copy and paste, then post it as their own opinions.

2. The posts are becoming too much in number and verbose in length. There should be a balance.


I too talk about the box office once in a while. There is no issue. I post my honest opinion supported by facts. I also watch many movies at the cinema, so my gist is fresh

Now, if you actually stopped to analyse what you read on Hollywood gossip (instead of copying and pasting), you would realise that it is nonsense. This is because you cannot use someone's likeness for free. You would be sued and you will lose in court.

This is streaky established in videogames- studios pay to use actors' or athletes' likeness.

My complaint didn't start today with Barbie so rest. It was only ATSV and GOTG3 i truly enjoyed from your list you put there , that i saw. Stayed away from John Wick 4 because i was already bored with Part 3, and seeing it on VOD, i was glad I didn't go see it, Fast and Furious X was medicore at best, Creed 3 was just there too and did i hear you say you enjoyed Transformers?? Then we are clearly on different paths with the way we view movies. You might think going to the movie is some show of class and a chance to foment those who don't go whilst i actually care about the art and i don't just bend over for any movie.

The Transformers movie was just mindless fun. Same as Fast X- one watches it for the action set pieces and the big budget graphics. The plot is inconsequential.

Is it me or has the ROI of going to the cinema to see a flick has diminished and at an all time low?. I swear, I have taken more L's than actual W alone 😭.
