All of you complaining about non - functioning proximity sensors.......

Take off your screen protectors and test proximity sensors......
Very good suggestion.

But correct me if I'm wrong, I only see one person currently experiencing proximity sensor ish.

How pls what is the difference between xiaomi redmi Note 7 and xiaomi redmi 7
The difference is in the "note".
Actually Note is the senior brother.

One thing I hate is when an Indian starts their YouTube video with English and then proceed to spill Hindi all over the place. huh
Another thing I hate is when my gps refuse to get a fix on my current position. huh

Someone on the thread said he experienced similar issue only when light is coming directly into the camera...they said it cant be corrected with a software update and thats how the pop up mechanism is....their words not mine o..hehen.
Hmmmmm...... Hopefully this scenario will only occur a small percentage of the time.
Although it can be very annoying whenever it happens.

PS: I know generally that there is nothing that can't be corrected. Sometimes the solution may just be a very small tweak somewhere.

Between Redmi 5plus and Redmi 7 which would you pick and why?
Redmi 7 offcourse.
Better specs, more modern, etc.

Another one..
Most people in the thread that use the phone say he prolly got a defective one.
omotolsy:
okay I use one and i wont slap him for the review. You know why? He is right. Sometimes the front camera takes amazing pictures and sometimes it doesnt particularly when light enters the camera. However, the front cameras are just seriously awesome. Fingerprint is very responsive but not 100% accurate.

Lets not complain about anything, xiaomi gave us a great deal. I am not complaining.

For the amount this is a classic.
The explanation from omotolsy seems plausible.
MKBHD only commented on what he saw with his two korokoro eyes.
Others too stated what they have seen with their own eyes.
In the end, everybody is correct in one way or another.

It may just be a software glitch that causes it to produce horrible pictures in some situations.
That can be corrected in a firmware update.

Not the display, the device itself.
Okay.........

Offcourse the mi band is expected to be on and on your wrist 24/7.

I thought you meant that the display is on 24/7.

Battery wise, my mi band 2 which is close to two years old still lasts 3 weeks plus.

Seems you're new here, you don't know k20 fans here? They behave exactly like iPhone fanboys. They just don't take any comparison, let alone, any criticism of the device
It is so unfortunate.

Such criticisms are greatly needed so that the phone manufacturers will sit up and see areas where they need to improve.

I watched the MKBHD video in 1080p and all he said about the k20 pro unit he was reviewing are absolutely spot on.

Battery life is dope. I unboxed it at 46% around 4pm. Despite all the pressing and testing it's at 42% presently.

You mean the MI band 4 display is on 24/7?
PhonesRe: The Xiaomi Thread. by Born2smile: 9:27am On Jul 27, 2019
I don't know what some of you are taking oh. Those selfie camera pictures of k20 pro MKBHD posted in that video are exactly as he described them. Guy was being damn honest.

Many, if not most, agree that xiaomi need to upgrade their camera software. They really need to employ world class programmers! Their excellent hardware is greatly underutilized grin

Somebody please help!!!
I am facing the worst issue I ever faced in a phone.
The gps in my rn7 doesn't work!
Because of this, I can't use driving mode on Google maps or anything that needs gps location.
I have done all I can think of:

Tried all the suggestions from the internet
http://en.miui.com/thread-5567417-1-1.html?fbclid=IwAR2YiUOyDPBXQO7701THhA5tR5hZ1Gj3cl-xmJp7prgSKBLA9onHqFA9nPY

https://mobileinternist.com/redmi-note-7-problems#2

https://c.mi.com/thread-2232656-1-0.html

Flashed the latest rom,
Tinkered with various settings,
Set the gps to high accuracy, etc nothing has worked.

For all the good features that exists on this phone, such a basic feature as gps doesn't work!
All evidence points to a software bug.

Even my small redmi go has no issues whatsoever with gps.
GPS non-existent,
Now noticing that Bluetooth connection is degraded.
Cannot enjoy home theater or Bluetooth headphones if I move more than 1 meters from the speaker whereas
Redmi go runs smoothly even from 10 meters.

Who did I offend sef? angry

No, not network lock.

I doubt if other launchers will be able to keep up with Microsoft in this launcher race.

I brought RN7 yesterday and I must say the phone is lovely.

I read something here one certain time about changing location before applying fonts or so. I would appreciate if someone can explain it to me.

Secondly, I want to make this baby look more sexy. Kindly recommend good apps to install and best theme or luncher to user on this phone.

Last but not the least, the keyboard is small unlike my previous phone, can I change the keyboard to a big one?

Thanks
For keyboard, you can always increase the size of the keyboard in the keyboard settings.
If using Gboard, go to the Gboard settings>preferences>change keyboard height as desired.

Sorry guys I have been away. But having read 29 pages up till this point. I must clear up a misconception.

And this is a serious one. I noticed Genius43 abstained from it because the argument no make sense at all.

Brand name does not make a good phone. It's sad that many people believe that if you make a paper phone like primary kids do and place Samsung brand name on it then it's better than all other phones. This is a very wrong assumption and by now, a lot of us should be past this.

If you want to do a comparison, put brand name aside and analyse both phones individually side by side using basic parameters like SoC/CPU, camera, battery, clock speed, attachment ports, functionality, aesthetics, screen type and protection, features etc.

This is how phone arguments should look like. Not insults and rubbish talk. Reason like enlightened people not garage touts. We're more than this please.
Well said.....

Only thing I would add is that one should always think about the software when comparing phones.
A bad or buggy software can easily cancel out the benefits of good hardware.
That's where some OEMs shine better than others.

Hehe. Well I got the error message after a minute plus. Then I tried using the map and everything seemed good and valid inclusive of its direction and length of travel, even traffic reading. Then, I am a noob in this..so what do I know?

If you have time, maybe you could explain. Hehe e no too late to learn
Traffic reading is not dependent on the gps. You only need an internet connection for that.
If all your Google play apps, system apps and device firmware are up to date, you have not tinkered with your device network settings and you test when you are outdoors in an open place, you should get a successful message.

If not, it means somebody's got a bug to fix.

Honestly I do not know how to use the GPS stuff since I never use it. By successful, I mean I didn't get the error message i saw in your screenshot and my apps are all updated as I follow everything squarely. With this in mind, I think it is a fair conclusion to say it should be working perfectly
Well......... I would really appreciate seeing your successful screenshot.
While you are preferably out doors with a clear sky,

type *#*#6484#*#* on your dial pad,
Scroll down and tap on gps to start the test.
Wait for about a minute or two for the test to complete,
Take a screenshot and let's see.
If possible, you can crop the top half of the screenshot.

Anything short of a successful screenshot will not hold water in court grin

PhonesRe: The Xiaomi Thread. by Born2smile:
So I noticed some days back that gps was not working as expected in my rn7. It takes ages, if at all, to zero in on my position. Google maps was practically unusable. Driving mode was not possible because gps signal was not functioning or was very poor (always saying gps signal lost).
Gps test using *#*#6484#*#* is never successful.

I spent a couple of days trying to figure out the problem. Came across this thread on mi forum

https://en.miui.com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=5567417&extra=page%3D1&page=1&mobile=2

Very weird solution if you ask me.

And this thread on xda

https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-7/help/gps-issue-t3902512/page1

After doing some further digging in the above threads and other sources, I was able to improve it a little by changing a setting I had changed before.
Apparently, if you have used *#*#4636#*#* to change the network setting of your second sim to GSM only, maybe to save some battery life, this affects the gps performance.

Also, there have been some System apps updates pushed by xiaomi which I ignored and refused to install. If these were meant to fix some of these issues, I missed the opportunity to install them. Now when I go to the system apps updater to check for these updates again, they are not there.

Currently, my gps performance has improved but it is nowhere near the efficiency I got in my r5plus.
I will continue to probe for a solution and avoid any "surgical" solutions such as factory reset or flashing a new rom.

Any suggestions from you guys will be appreciated.
Also, if you are using RN7, kindly test your gps on Google maps or using *#*#6484#*#* to be sure everything is working as expected.

My advice:
(1)if you are using rn7 and your gps signal is working efficiently especially in Google maps, don't change network settings in your sim using *#*#4636#*#* as this might break something else
(2) keep your OS/MIUI and system apps up to date. The updates do actually fix bugs, some of which you may not have come in contact with yet.
