Investment › Nigerian Stock Exchange To Inaugurate First Islamic Index On Monday by boyendowed(op): 5:25pm On Jul 29, 2012 |
The Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) has announced that the Shari’ah Compliant Index would be inaugurated on Monday, July 30.
NSE said that the plans followed their signing of a memorandum of understanding with Lotus Capital Ltd. for the development and management of a certified Shari’ah Compliant Index.
The Islamic Equity Index known as the ``NSE Lotus Islamic Index’’ (with the code NSE LII) will be for only companies that meet the principles of Shari’ah.
The NSE LII, which is the first index created to track the performance of Shari’ah compliant equities on the floor of the bourse, will increase the breadth of the market and create a benchmark for investments as the alternative non-interest investment space widens.
Osahon Aire, NSE’s Project Manager for the NSE LII launch, said that investment instruments like Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) could be built on the Index which investors with a preference for ethical/Shari'ah compliant investments could invest in.
He said also that the inauguration would tactically aid the development of the market.
``The NSE Lotus Islamic Index would further illuminate the massive investment opportunities available to ethically minded investors, both in Nigeria and overseas. All the companies that would appear on the Index have been thoroughly screened by Lotus Capital Halal Investment, in accordance with a methodology approved by an internationally recognised Shari’ah Advisory Board comprising renowned Islamic scholars,” Osahon said.
The Project Manager said that the inauguration of the Index was an exciting development that was in line with NSE’s mandate of broadening and deepening the Nigerian Capital Market.
The Lotus Capital was founded in June 2004 with the specific objective of meeting the investment needs of ethical individuals, businesses and organisations across West Africa.
It is a full-service of HalalInvestment Management Boutique, specialising in Shari’ah compliant Asset Management, Private Wealth Management Advisory Services and Financial Advisory Services. http://www.businessdayonline.com/NG/index.php/news/76-hot-topic/41892--nse-to-inaugurate-first-islamic-index-on-monday- |

It was very educative unlike Beijing that was just a show of modern technology. & ofcourse, Mr Bean killed it, he got me rolling! They perfectly utilized that opportunity to show us their history.Very nice stuff |

Beaf: Sadly, there is a lot of truth in what David Mark is saying. Presenting robust opposition is a completely different thing from sedition, lies, false rumours, slander and other forms of lawlessness.
Right here on NL, we even have mods like OAM4J who take their unethical and irresponsible behaviour to common sense defying levels that can only be described as stup!d. In my opinion, a couple of people need to learn a legal lesson or two.
Ask the foolish London teenager (Luke Angel) that called Obama a pr*ck in an email after one too many beers. All the way in the UK, the police popped round, took his picture and explained to him that he was banned from the US for LIFE. At 17! You can imagine that secret services will be on his tail for life and he now has no future.
https://images.dailytech.com/nimage/16632_Luke_Angel.jpg
US security services regularly haul in people who make demeaning or threatening statements on the web for questioning (or more). The Nigerian constitution is tailored after the US one, so why not do the same thing?
Lets just be civil and truthful. I agree that social media can at times misrepresent facts or outrightly report false stories but it is the only means where people can anonymously criticize government without fear of arrest or intimidation. The case of Luke angel was a bit different. He wasn't banned just because he called Obama a pri.ck.He was banned because he also threatened the President. You can check the link below http://articles.nydailynews.com/2010-09-13/news/27075292_1_immigration-law-e-mail-immigration-violationNobody has threatened Jonathan here.Even though some abuses are way off line,I think you will agree with me that people are genuinely upset at some of the things he does. |

ADint: Its good to support your partner's business anyway you can. Selling chin-chin, jewelry, shoes or whatever in the office should not be condoned by any serious minded business in order to instill professionalism in the workplace.
Having said that, it seems to be an accepted practice in Nigeria. In this instance, if at all the chin-chin has to be sold in the office, then he should let the wife come and do it herself or employ some jobless youth to do the rounds. He is not being professional and he is sending out the wrong message to his subordinates. If his subordinates also now decide to start selling their wives akara, puff-puff or kunu in the office what would he have to say to that? How would he be able to stop them? What then would he have turned the office to? Very balanced and reasonable statement |
