NYSCNYSC Threatens To Report Schools With Deficient Graduates by Boyoorisha(op): 2:37am On Jan 18, 2013
National Youth Service Corps has threatened to report the schools with highly deficient graduates to the regulatory bodies for sanctions following poor quality graduates being registered by some schools for the scheme.

The NYSC Director-General, Brig Gen Nnamdi Okorie-Affia, said this during the 2013 Batch ‘A’ pre-mobilisation workshop entitled ‘Generating Credible Data for a Perfect Mobilisation Process in Ilorin, Kwara State on Thursday.

Okorie-Affia, who regretted that many organisations had rejected corps members after they found them to be academically deficient, said the scheme had also discovered that some higher institutions had been presenting overage students and products of internally introduced unaccredited courses for mobilisation.

He said there were corps members who could hardly communicate in English Language, saying the development had wrongly earned the NYSC a bad name

The army chief said, “You will agree with me that it is extremely difficult to re-orient a corps member who cannot read. To underscore the seriousness of this challenge, we now have a situation whereby principals of schools and other employers reject corps members because they cannot fit into their work schedule.”

He said getting accurate and credible data from corps producing institutions for mobilising eligible graduates had been difficult.

According to the DG, the data for mobilisation by corps producing institutions in 2012 showed that many exceeded the admission quota approved by their respective regulatory bodies by as much as 500 per cent.

Okorie-Affa said, “The direct consequences of this on the scheme is massive corps population explosion, sometimes exceeding even the safe bound of acceptable standards of geometric progression. This has made planning in the NYSC rather difficult and is fast drawing the ire of both government and the general public.

“I instituted an inquiry on illegal fees being charged corps members by some Corps Producing Institutions before mobilising them for national service.”

PoliticsPower Of OBJ - PDP Makes U-turn On Oyinlola by Boyoorisha(op): 8:09am On Jan 17, 2013
The Peoples Democratic Party on Wednesday asked an Abuja Federal High Court to stay the execution of a judgment, which sacked its National Secretary, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, from office.

The application for stay of execution was filed less than two days after the PDP National Chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, replaced Oyinlola with the Deputy National Secretary, Solomon Onwe, in acting capacity.

Investigations showed that as Tukur had adopted strategies to ensure that Oyinlola did not return as national secretary, most members of the National Working Committee were determined to save him.

While the PDP chairman is loyal to President Goodluck Jonathan, most members of the NWC are backed by PDP governors and former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

The PUNCH had on Wednesday reported that Tukur planned to hold a congress in the South-West, where Oyinlola’s replacement would be picked.

The move is part of measures to seize the control of the party in the South-West from Obasanjo and the PDP governors.

The statement, which announced the appointment of Onwe on Monday was not signed by the National Publicity Secretary, who usually issued such statements.

Investigations showed that most NWC members strongly felt that the best way to save Oyinlola, a former Osun State governor, was to file the suit.

A member of the NWC, who pleaded anonymity, said, “The NWC will resist any move by Tukur to hurriedly hold a congress that will replace Oyinlola in the South-West.”

But another member of the NWC, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the party decided to defend Oyinlola because it was also a defendant in the case that led to his sacking by the FHC last Friday.

He said the need to file the application for stay of execution was discussed at a meeting the members of the NWC held with Tukur at his residence on Tuesday.

Tukur, he said, had nothing personal against Oyinlola as he believed that the party should defend him in court.

The source added that since the party did not take Oyinlola to court, it must come to his aid by defending him and not using the Friday judgment as a vendetta .

The source said, “Yes, we have to come to his aid by filing the papers to suspend the implementation of the judgment. It is a normal thing in any court case.

A very close source close to the PDP argued that by filing the application for stay of execution, the party’s leadership headed by Tukur had made a U-turn on its perceived rush to get Oyinlola out of the way.

“What happened today(Wednesday) is a U-turn by the PDP leadership. They initially put the cart before the house. They should have asked for stay of execution of the FHC judgment before rushing to replace Oyinlola with Onwe as the acting national secretary of the party,” he told one of our correspondents in Abuja.

The application for stay of execution of the judgment was filed by the party’s counsel, Mr. Victory Kwon, pursuant to Order 32, rules 1, 2 and 4(1), and Order 56, Rule 1 of the Court (Civil Procedure) and Section 36(1) of the 1999 Constitution, as amended.

In the application, the PDP asked the court for an order of injunction restraining the beneficiaries of the judgment “from giving effect to, or otherwise seeking the enforcement of the judgment of the court delivered on January 11, 2013, pending the hearing and determination of its appeal before the court.”

The party also wants stay of execution of all orders of the court granted by way of reliefs contained in the judgment of the FHC, pending the determination of the appeal.

The PDP premised the application marked FHC/ABJ/CS/504, on the grounds that it was dissatisfied with the judgment of the court, and had already appealed against it.

Furthermore, it stressed that it raised substantial and arguable issues of law in the appeal.

The party also maintained that by Order 32 rules 1,2 and 4(1) and Order 56, rule 1 of the Federal High Court rules, 2009, the court is empowered to stay the execution of all orders granted by way of relief contained in the FHC judgment.

PDP held that if the application was granted, its appeal would not be rendered negatory and the appellate court would not be in a situation of helplessness.

It also argued that the refusal of the application would prevent a return to status quo if the appeal succeeded.

The former governor had also approached the Court of Appeal, Abuja Division, in a bid to reverse his sacking from office.

Oyinlola appealed the FHC judgment in a notice of appeal dated January 11, 2013, which was filed by his counsel, Otunba Kunle Kalejaye (SAN).

In the grounds of appeal, Oyinlola’s counsel argued that the judgment of the FHC was against the weight of evidence.

He maintained that the FHC erred in law by assuming jurisdiction of the matter.

He therefore asked the Appeal court for “an order reversing the judgment of the trial Judge”, as well as “an order striking out and or dismissing the entire action with costs.”

Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission has said it has not received any request from the PDP, to delist Oyinlola’s name from its records.

A national newspaper(not The PUNCH) had on Wednesday reported that the PDP had told INEC to delist Oyinlola’s name as the party’s national secretary.

But the Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, Mr. Kayode Idowu, said the commission had not received any letter to that effect from the PDP.

There are strong indications that President Goodluck Jonathan and the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Dr. Bamanga Tukur, have begun fresh moves to seize the control of the party in the South-West from former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Investigations on Tuesday also showed that the moves were to ensure that Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola did not return as the PDP National Secretary.

Oyinlola, a political protegee of Obasanjo and former Osun State governor was on Monday directed to step down by Tukur. The action was viewed by political observers as part of the strategies by the President and his team to whittle down the former President’s influence, especially in the South-West PDP.

Tukur, whose emergence as the PDP national chairman was influenced by Jonathan, had named the Deputy National Secretary, Chief Solomon Onwe, as acting National Secretary. He had cited some sections of the party’s constitution to justify his action.

Before Monday’s development, a Federal High Court in Abuja had last Friday sacked Oyinlola while ruling on a suit by a faction of the PDP in Ogun State. The faction had gone to the court to challenge the emergence of the former governor as PDP national secretary, claiming that he was foisted on the South-West PDP by Obasanjo.

Sources close to the Presidency told one of our correspondents in Abuja on Tuesday that Jonathan and Tukur were not comfortable that the South-West PDP was being controlled by Obasanjo and indirectly, by the governors.

One of the sources claimed that the PDP regarded the South-West as strategic to its presidential primaries in 2015 and the general elections.

The South-West may not produce a presidential candidate for the PDP in 2015 but block votes from the zone could determine the eventual winner of the presidential election.

The PUNCH learnt that one of the strategies being planned by the PDP leadership headed by Tukur was to organise a fresh congress in the South-West to pick a replacement for Oyinlola.

This plan is contained in the legal advice given to Tukur by a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mr. Joe Gadzama.

It was this same advice that Tukur used to order that Oyinlola be replaced by Onwe.

Investigations showed that the planned congress might give anti-Obasanjo forces in the South-West the advantage to produce the national secretary.

The PDP, in Ogun, Obasanjo’s home state, is divided into two with the former President supporting the Senator Dipo Odujurin- led executive, while a businessman, Chief Buruji Kashamu is backing the Adebayo Dayo-led executive.

The Kashamu-led faction has been having a series of legal battles with the Obasanjo-backed faction, which culminated in the removal of Oyinlola.

Sunday PUNCH had on January 13 reported that Jonathan had taken the battle for the soul of the PDP to Ogun State with the unfeterred access a former governor of the state, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, had been having in the Presidency.

One of Daniel’s loyalists, Alhaja Salimot Badru, was recently appointed by Jonathan as a member of the Federal Capital Development Authority.

On Monday, The PUNCH reported a source at the PDP meeting as saying that an ex-convict, Chief Bode George, was nominated by Jonathan as a member of the Adamawa State Reconciliation Committee.

Daniel and George are at loggerheads with Obasanjo.

Gadzama, in the memo to Tukur, said the party must organise a fresh congress in the South-West within 21 days to replace Oyinlola.

The memo reads in part, “The National Working Committee of the PDP shall ensure, in accordance with the order of the honourable court; that a valid congress of the South- West chapter of the PDP is constituted within 21 days from January 11, 2013 to replace the 1st defendant with another candidate.”

It also said that since the court’s judgment that sacked Oyinlola was a declaratory one, it was unlikely that he would get a stay of execution order from the Court of Appeal.

Counsel to Oyinlola, Otunba Kunle Kalejaye (SAN), had told The PUNCH in Ibadan, Oyo State on Monday, that it was proper for his client to ask for stay of execution on his sacking pending the determination of his appeal.

“I had been asked so many questions about whether the judgment was declaratory and whether it could be stayed. It is only a declaratory order that cannot be stayed. Even the order removing him is not declaratory. It is a positive order of court,” Kalejaye added.

Meanwhile, the PDP has said the removal of Oyinlola was not as a result of any personal animosity between him and Tukur.

The party, in an unsigned statement, said that his sacking was a result of court judgment that ousted him from office.

The statement said, “For the avoidance of doubt, we want to say unequivocally that there is no personal rift between Alhaji Tukur and Prince Oyinlola.

“In any event, reports have indicated that Prince Oyinlola has appealed against the court judgment and the NWC wants to say that as soon as the appeal is decided, the party will, in the same way as it did in the case of the Federal High Court ruling, obey the appeal decision.”

In Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, the South-West PDP said it had nothing against the replacement of Oyinlola as the national secretary of the party.

The National Vice- Chairman of the PDP in the zone, Mr. Segun Oni, said on Tuesday that the replacement of Oyinlola with Onwe, was in accordance with last Friday court judgment.

Oni, who spoke with one of our correspondents through his media aide, Mr. Lere Olayinka, said that the PDP in the South- West would only kick if Onwe was made a substantive national secretary of the party.

He said, “His (Oyinlola) replacement is in accordance with the court judgment which is declaratory. You can’t bring someone who is not a member of the NWC to replace him that is why his deputy was announced to replace him. When the secretary can’t reform, his deputy takes over; this is not about ethnicity.

Gadzama’s memo to Tukur on Oyinlola

“Having carefully gone through the Order in the judgment (of the FHC) in the above suit (against Oyinlola), though we are yet to see a copy of the judgment itself, it is our considered opinion that:

*the judgment is a valid decision of a court of competent jurisdiction. *the judgment is binding on all the parties to it most especially the defendants who are bound to comply with same.

*Being a valid judgment, it is subsisting and enforceable against the parties thereto until it is set aside (if any) on appeal;

“All the defendants were duly represented in the suit by counsel before the Court arrived as its decision.

“Essentially, the judgment is declaratory and a declaratory judgment cannot be stayed in the sense that if there is an appeal against the judgment or an application to set it aside, such an appeal or an application cannot be a reason to stay the effects of the judgment.

“On the fact, of this case, it is plain that this is a case which a stay of execution may not be granted in the judgment which is enforceable against the appellant/applicant.

“In other words, there being no judgment to execute the relief claimed in the present motion cannot be one which this court can grant, the application, if I may say with respect, therefore seems to me misconceived.”

“Consequent upon the above circumstances, it is our considered legal opinion that: (a) The 1st defendant (Prince Oyinlola) shall vacate his office as the National Secretary of the PDP forthwith in compliance with the order of court.

“The 2nd defendant (the PDP) shall ensure that the defendant vacates his office as the national secretary of the PDP forthwith and should not do anything that runs contrary to the order of the honourable court removing him as the national secretary of the PDP or parades himself as such.

“The only part of the judgment of the court which may constitute enough grounds for stay of execution are contained in 4th and 5th Orders of the Court.

“In that case, there may be an order to stay execution of the order of court in respect of the replacement of the national secretary, of the party until the determination of any suit or application before the trial court or the Court of Appeal (and the Supreme Court as the case may be). It is only in such a situation that an order of stay of execution is permissible in law.”

*Only a declaratory order cannot be stayed -Oyinlola’s lawyer

“We have since filed an appeal for stay of execution at the court.

“I had been asked so many questions about whether the judgment was declaratory and whether it could be stayed. It is only a declaratory order that cannot be stayed. Even the order removing him is not declaratory. It is a positive order of court.

“The plaintiffs in that case asked for five orders. The first one is a declaration that the candidacy of the first defendant as a nominee of South-West zonal chapter is null.

“The second one is a declaration that his candidacy and the subsequent election to the position of the National Secretary is null and void.

“The third one is also a declaration that the candidacy of the first defender to the position of National Secretary and his subsequent election to that position is invalid. Number four is an order removing the first defendant from office as the national secretary. This is not declaratory. The other one is an order of the court directing the Independent National Electoral Commission to rectify the record.”

Kalejaye explained that orders four and five were not declaratory and, hence, could be stayed.

“We have filed our motion in this regard, “ he added.

PoliticsNigerian Youth Announce New Political Party: Sovereign National Party (SNP) by Boyoorisha(op): 7:16pm On Jan 13, 2013
Sovereign National Party (SNP) is the political movement of the Nigerian masses and friends of Nigeria who are frustrated with the chronic, debilitated state of the nation.

The SNP is the result of years of mismanagement and selfish rule in Nigeria by a caucus of remnants of the colonial establishment.

These few elder Nigerians who are now popularly referred to as the “Cabal,” consist of certain names, the same names that have been heard since the so-called independence of Nigeria in 1960.

Nigerians have been suffering and smiling, hoping and praying that one day these old people will show some responsibility and not just get Nigeria out of its woes, but even steer it toward the path of advancement.

But these old leaders are only interested in usurping Nigeria’s wealth, sharing oil wells among themselves and living in fortified mansions with 24 hour generation of power, apart from the reality of the common masses.

Nigerians Are Fed-up of Recycling Trash

Nigeria is now ranked the 7th most terrorized nation in the world. There is terror in the South and in the North of the federation. Insecurity threatens to take away what was left of the Nigeria spirit.

The standard of living in Nigeria is deplorable, considering the nations vast resource and potential.

Great minds and talents are killed and buried in Nigeria under its vision-less leadership.

The citizens only beg for basic infrastructure: good roads and security if provided by the government, and the people are allowed to self-determine, the people will do the rest for themselves. But the lame, crippled leaders suffocate the people and force them into a handicapped existence.

Not only this, Nigeria has lost its esteemed role as giant of Africa consequent to its mismanagement crises. We have failed in our duties and obligations not only to ourselves, but West Africa, Africa and the world at large.

In the advent of this, Nigerians decided that they had simply had it with the rotation of leadership positions between shoots of the same crop, who were ultimately obliged to serve the interests of the cabal, being put in power by the ‘grace,’ of this cabal.

The Sovereign National Party(SNP) Movement officially commenced in January 2013 and promises to be the last stand at recovering a future for people born into what has been a failed amalgamation.

Today is the day of a new cabal, the 150 million strong cabal of the common masses.

Our candidates will contest for all Nigeria’s leadership positions and we will win by Gods grace.

The SNP political platform is poised to provide a sure path for Nigeria’s large youth population to take over the government and establish self-determination, sanity, security, peace and advancement for the people of the land, once and for all.

The people have been limited to 2 or 3 choices of hopeless parties run by these old goons. But now the SNP of the people, with the people, provide ourselves the different choice and choice with a difference.

SNP is the stone for this Goliath.

Fellow Nigerians, let us come together and do this. You will make up this party, you will guide its operation, you will make it win, and you will rule your nation at last.

As you read this message, from today we have forced them to sit up. And by 2015 we will make them stand down.

Sovereign National Party is a peaceful political formation for firm political overhaul.

The revolution will be at the ballot.

SNP is the masses!

We the people will win.

God bless you. God bless our great land.

Signed by the Sovereign National Party (SNP)

Halliburton Bribery Scam: Million-Dollar Bribes Were Wired To Abdulsalami Abubakar, Julius Berger, And Obasanjo

November 16, 2012 - 21:04

By SaharaReporters, New York

A report published today by Vanguard newspaper has uncovered a list of some of the foreign banks used to funnel close to $200 million in Halliburton bribes to Nigerian officials, including two former heads of states.

Under pressure from the United States, President Goodluck Jonathan recently directed that the files on the $180 million Halliburton bribery scam be reopened and the principal suspects re-arrested for prosecution.

Even though the Vanguard report failed to mention the former Nigerian heads of state implicated in the scandal, SaharaReporters has learnt that the principal targets are former military ruler Abdulsalami Abubakar and former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Mr. Abubakar’s share of the illicit bribe funds, a total of $37.5 million, was wired to him through accounts in the American Express Bank Annex at the Towers World Financial Centre, New York, the Seaway National Bank, Chicago, and the Bank of New York.

Mr. Abubakar, who served as military ruler after the death of General Sani Abacha, operated several bank accounts that period included A/C No 187765 Chips VID 250517 (in the name of Maizubi Holdings, Minna), A/C No 0074952045, Routing Number 071001216, Foundation Inc., A/C No 9800263826 Swift/Sort Code GHBAGRAA001 and A/C No 0039342923-21 Routing Number 052001533.

The bribery deals were overseen by Jeffrey Tesler, a lawyer and dual citizen of the UK and Israel who served as a consultant to KBR, a subsidiary of Halliburton that sought to secure construction contracts worth $6 billion. Mr. Tesler was arrested in the UK in 2009. In 2011, he struck a plea bargain with US authorities that sent him to jail for 21 months. In addition, he forfeited $150 million to the US government.

Mr. Tesler reportedly used several fronts, including former Air-Vice Marshal Abdul Dominic Bello, to distribute bribe sums. A source indicated that Air-Vice Marshal Bello played a role in funneling funds to several Nigerian government officials. Bribes of over $68 million were wired to him using accounts at several banks. These included Lloyds Bank of London, A/C No 736827, Bank of Credit and Commerce International, London, American Express Bank, A/C No 2101653, HSBC, A/C No 31505024, and Lloyds Bank, A/C No 0737041. All transactions were done using a company called Tri-Star.

Vanguard disclosed that the various bribe sums were shared with the active knowledge and connivance of Sena Anthony, the company secretary of the Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG). Ms. Anthony’s role earned her an arrest, detention and prolonged interrogation during the first investigation. Subsequently, Nigerian investigators decided that she was key to unraveling the complete list of the bribery beneficiaries.

Vanguard learnt that Mr. Obasanjo used a variety of cronies to collect a total of about $39 million in bribe funds. Mr. Obasanjo reportedly used construction giant, Julius Berger, as a go-between. He purported that the huge sums of money were invested in the PDP, whereas only a minute fraction of the funds actually got to the party.  Mr. Obasanjo's assistant, Bodunde Adeyanju, was briefly arrested and detained by Nigerian law enforcement.

The source also disclosed that Malabo Oil, which is owned by former Minister of Petroleum Dan Etete, received some $2 million from the bribery scam. In addition, Nigeria’s former spy chief, Umaru Shinkafi, also received $1.65 million of the Halliburton bribe. The cash was wired to him through the American Express Bank in London and in a joint account he operated with Ashiru Bisiji Aliyu.

Another big-time beneficiary was Abdulkadir Abacha. A brother of former dictator Sani Abacha, he received various sums amounting to about $13 million. The funds were sent through account names Headway Eng. Ltd. (A/C No 68579222), Strategic Ind. Ltd. (A/c No 76434366), and Action Investment Intern Ltd.

Ibrahim Aliyu, a former federal permanent secretary, used Union Bank Plc London office at Copt Avenue with account No 02101/01/010 312/ Swift Address UBNIGB31A.

M.G. Bakari, owner of Sherwood, reportedly acted for himself and a former head of state. He received huge sums through various accounts including Bank HSBC, Euston Road, London, A/C No 39067293 Sort Code 40-04-07, Swift Code MIDOGB; A/C No 024002112100; Monument Trust, Channels Island, Sherwood A/C No 024002112001 through which the sum of Euro 664, 020. 83 was wired to Sherwood.

President Jonathan’s order to re-open the Halliburton bribery scandal involving prominent Nigerians followed subtle criticism by the US. US officials recently told Mr. Jonathan that the Barack Obama administration would not authorize release of about $130 million in the Halliburton case until Nigeria demonstrated seriousness in prosecuting Nigerian officials who accepted bribes from Halliburton.

A source at the Presidency said Mr. Jonathan is not interested in prosecuting the former heads of state involved in the scam, despite soured relations between him and former President Obasanjo. Mr. Jonathan recently heaped praise on the prime suspect, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, describing him as the person who stabilized Nigeria's democracy.

Our source said Mr. Jonathan was upset over Mr. Obasanjo’s increasingly biting criticism of his administration, but doubted that the current president could risk taking on his predecessor and benefactor. “Don’t forget that Chief Obasanjo put him where he is,” said the source.

There are unanswered questions about the whereabouts of the $26.5 million returned by construction giant, Julius Berger, in a plea bargain arrangement with Mohammed Bello Adoke, Nigeria’s current Attorney General. A top aide to Mr. Jonathan asserted that Mr. Adoke misappropriated the funds with the help of some lawyers who were also involved in the case. The source disclosed that the funds were then used to set up an airline known as “Izzy Air,” a private charter airliner.

DejiOluyem: I landed in one of job scammers here on Nairaland today. Ade Ademokunla posted a job opportunity at Resource Result for fresh graduates. The address 32 Kudirat abiola way, Oregun is a virtual address, a variety shop where cannot fit for an office suit. Very worrisome, their website www.resourceresults.com look real. Pls business community and job seeker should beware and take note for record sake.

Thanks
To prove how dumb you are, you dont even know the website of the company that called you for an interview! The website is http://www.resourceresult.com/ and not the above

acidtalk: This is certainly not enough evidence to say they are Fraudstars.

If you had not just judged from the looks of shops at the address but rather asked people around there which SHOP the company is using and operating from.

Do you know the amount it cost to get an office space in Lagos? If you do, you will be more concerned of the service they want to render to you not about where their office is situated.

People like you ALWAYS miss out on great opportunities in life because you are always deceived and carried away with material things.

If they never demanded money from you to get you a job then I believe you have to admit your ignorance and false accusation.

I know a few young guys who opearte from their homes and pull in millions on a weekly basis from companies like Shell, Chevron, MRS, Total, Agip, And others doing supplies to them and yet he has no office.
Dont mind the doubting Thomas, I know the man in question and he is for real! He is just planning to establish the firm and he just got an office space about yesterday. The place for the interview is not the office address. If you checked my posts, I have posted something about the company (Resource Result) before. He is an auditor and he is based in the state. He came into the country about three days ago

You don't know what you are talking about! I know Ade Ademokunle personally, he has been in the state for years and wants to relocate to establish a consulting firm. He is a renowned auditor who practices in the US. The interview took place yesterday in the same address. The address above is not the office address but the interview venue. He just got an office space, in fact, I am going to see Mr. Ade this coming sunday for a brief meeting. You can check his profile on linkedin and see for yourself.
