Now, Super Eagles have performed and nobody insult them again. It's been praise galore, tell GEJ to perform and nobody will insult him again |
A group, under the aegis of the Niger Delta Youth Initiative for Positive Change, has pleaded with Nigerian youth to stop using the social media platform to insult President Goodluck Jonathan. According to the group; the attitude of abusing leaders was not common in other countries, but in Nigerian, many had taken delight in using offensive words against their leaders. National Coordinator of the group, Mr. David Ato who made this call while addressing newsmen in Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital noted that President Goodluck Jonathan had good plans for the country. While calling on the youth to support Jonathan in order to deliver on his election promises, Ato reminded those insulting the president not to forget that he did not create the economic and political crisis currently being faced by the nation. His words, “The youth should desist from using abusive words against the President of the country. We should learn how to respect our leaders and we need to support him because we elected him into that office. “Insulting him on Facebook and other social media is not the best. The truth is that Nigeria has been facing a lot of economic and political problems for a long time. President Jonathan did not create these problems.” The group called on the President to begin to deliver on his election promises in the New Year, stressing that the country had waited enough for his transformation agenda to yield results. Ato who hoped that the country would soon begin to enjoy the dividends of democracy urged, President Jonathan to quickly challenge the rising insecurity presently tearing the northern part of the country apart. While lamenting over the continuous killings of innocent Nigerians by the dreaded Boko Haram sect, the group leader called on every Nigerian to pray fervently for peace and progress , noting that the ongoing crisis in the northern region was affecting the image and economy of the country. He noted that no investor would invest in a volatile environment. Ato called on the security agents to liaise with members of the public on security-related issues, adding that such would help bring the situation under control. http://dailypost.com.ng/2012/12/30/stop-insulting-jonathan-facebook-niger-delta-group-warns-nigerian-youths/ |

Again, coach Keshi and our skillful and patriotic players have shown the world the indomitable Nigerian spirit. It is this spirit that Nigeria's leading lights came together to celebrate on Monday the 4th of February 2013 as we began our centenary celebrations. The Super Eagles have done us proud, the Cup is within reach and Nigeria is indeed grateful and expectant of a special centenary gift from our players. GEJ |

coogar: i get the drift of the story but the bit that all the money in the account was withdrawn is a bit unrealistic. there's a withdrawal limit in every cash machine and the petty thief would have needed to present his ID at the bank to make a withdrawal. Unless the cash in their account is lower than the withdrawal limit, there's no way this story is 100% correct. You can withdraw forty thousand naira at a go now, multiply this by six and you know that isn't a small money! |
ngoziliz: wow! thanks. this is indeed useful but how come nobody has commented?Because this isn't Tonto Dike's picture ![]() |

The Presidency yesterday reacted angrily to the continuous vituperations being poured on President Goodluck Jonathan by former President Olusegun Obasanjo, describing the Ota farmer as a confused man. The Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters, Alhaji Ahmed Gulak, made the remark exclusively to Sunday Vanguard while reacting to newspaper reports yesterday in which the former president was quoted as heaping the blame for the insurgency in the country on Jonathan. Gulak said Nigerians should not take Obasanjo’s criticism of Jonathan serious because it was either his comments were based on ignorance or outright mischief or both, but primarily geared towards confusing the people and distracting the Presidency from delivering on its promise to Nigerians. According to the President’s aide, the security problem in Nigeria actually started during Obasanjo’s presidency and peaked during Yar’Adua’s time and was merely inherited by the present administration. Jonathan and OBJ – The good old days… He said it was therefore wrong and condemnable for Obasanjo or any Nigerian for that matter to accuse Jonathan of not tackling the security challenges headlong, saying that the man was doing his best to stem the tide of the crisis. Gulak, who described Boko Haram as an international security threat that has its roots outside Nigeria, pointed out that the federal administration had shown the will and capacity to deal with the situation the way it should be. The Political Adviser said, “As far as I am concerned, Obasanjo is becoming more confused and Nigerians should not take him serious on the issue of his attacks on President Goodluck Jonathan. “Nigerians have not forgotten that it was in Obasanjo’s time that Zaki Biam, Odi, bombing of oil facilities and militancy became very rampant in the country. So let us not be distracted by his antics, which are either borne out of ignorance or outright mischief or both.” The former President had been quoted in the magazine, New African, as saying that Jonathan should blame no one but himself if he cannot address the Boko Haram crisis. “If the president is the chief security officer of the country and there is a security problem, where do you go for the solution?”, Obasanjo said in his latest public criticism of the president. “And if that solution is not coming from the chief security officer, who has everybody and can mobilise everybody inside and outside to get a solution, then he has the responsibility to solve the problem. And nobody else should be blamed but him”. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2013/02/attacks-on-president-jonathan-obasanjo-becoming-more-confused-presidency/ |
A lady's handbag which contained her cell phone, credit card, wallet etc., was stolen. 20 minutes later, when she called her husband, from a pay phone telling him what had happened, hubby says, “I received your text asking about our pin number and I have replied a little while ago”. When they rushed down to their bank, the bank staff told them all that all the money were already withdrawn. The thief had actually used the stolen cell phone to text the husband in the contact list and got hold of the pin number within 20 minutes and has withdrawn all the money from their bank account. NOTE:: There is nothing really wrong in disclosing relationship between you and people in your contact list. I AM NOT AGAINST either in using names like home, honey, hubby, sweetheart, dad, mom, etc What's important here is, when sensitive information is being asked through text, “confirm” by calling back...let's be wise and sensitive. Also, when you are being text by friends or family to meet them somewhere, be sure to call back to confirm that all message came from them. If you don’t reach them, be careful about going places to meet “family and friends" who text you. |

In a new dimension in the war against begging, the Special Offences Court in Alausa area of Ikeja, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria has sent 30 beggars to Kirikiri and Badagry Prisons for soliciting for alms and other offences. The Lagos State Government had charged them to court for constituting nuisance in public by begging for alms. The government says it is no longer going to be business as usual as it has vowed to prosecute erring beggars on the streets of Lagos. The Attorney General of Lagos State was the prosecutor in the case. Some of the count charges against the beggars included conducting themselves as disorderly persons without visible means of livelihood and thus committed an offence under the criminal law of Lagos State. They were also charged with conducting themselves in a manner likely to cause breach of peace and for receiving, demanding and collecting dues or unauthorised levy from persons and thus committed offence punishable under the law on illegal collection of dues in public places. The beggars, 39 in number pleaded guilty to the offences and were consequently sent to Kirikiri and Badagry Prisons for one month pending when the final judgment would be delivered by the judge. Nine of them, as a result of their disabilities were rejected by prison officials and were then taken to the Lagos State Rehabilitation Home, Majidun, Ikorodu on the outskirts of Lagos. Some of the beggars prosecuted, were said to have attacked government officials during a rampage at the Lagos State Rehabilitation Home, Majidun, the place where they were being rehabilitated. Thirteen other beggars were also arraigned on Friday by the government at the same Special Offences Court. Three of the beggars were sentenced to 72 hours community service or pay a fine of N5,000, while 10 others were sentenced to three months imprisonment or pay fine of N10,000 each. Three others were sentenced directly to 72 hours community service without an option of fine. Special Adviser to the Governor of Lagos State on Youth and Social Development, Dr. Dolapo Badru said government decided to begin prosecution of beggars because it had exhausted its patience with the beggars. "We still rehabilitate some of them, but most of them don’t want to be rehabilitated and they don’t want to work. They feel more comfortable preying on people with superstitious beliefs. Some people believe that if they are unlucky in certain cases or looking for certain ways to make it in life, what they need to do is to give alms to beggars so that their fortune can change. Some believe that if someone debars their progress in life, what they need to do is to give money to beggars. Lots of beggars now prey on these people’s superstitious beliefs to get money from them. Many of them pretend to be blind, crippled, among others. They make more money than many people gainfully employed," he explained. Badru added that the cosmopolitan nature of Lagos had made it possible for barons to ship beggars to the metropolis to beg for alms, making lots of money, stressing that many of them felt so comfortable begging for alms on roads. "We have tried a lot to rehabilitate them by making some of them to learn trade, but they don’t want to work. Some of them don’t want to use the skill we taught them to work, but they prefer to be on the road because they make more money at a go than using their skills. What we do now is that when we have overcrowding at the rehabilitation homes, we re-unite some of them with their families. However, some people rescued from the street more than once are prosecuted. We have sent 30 of them to Kirikiri and Badagry Prisons," he stated. Some of the beggars prosecuted are Fatima Jubril, Sanusi Muhammed, Lado Amadu, Badayani Garuba, Denyaya Isali, Beto Manu, Garuba Ibrahim, Aruna Yau, Dauda Amadu and Magada Salisu. http://news.naij.com/22542.html
