As Nigeria solidifies its position as a leading business hub in Africa, international organizations are increasingly seeking to establish and expand operations within the country. However, successfully navigating Nigeria’s employment landscape requires a deep understanding of its legal framework. Compliance with essential labor laws is critical for organizations to enhance their recruitment processes and maintain operational efficiency. Below are nine key legislations that shape recruitment in Nigeria: 1. The Nigerian Labour Act, 1971 At the core of Nigeria’s employment laws is the Nigerian Labour Act, which governs employer-employee relationships. This legislation applies to individuals engaged in manual or clerical work under a contract, but it excludes those in executive, administrative, or professional roles who are subject to their employment contracts. While there is ongoing debate about its relevance to skilled labor, the Labour Act remains the foundation for regulating employment relationships across the country. 2. Employee Compensation Act, 2010 The Employee Compensation Act ensures financial protection for employees who suffer from work-related injuries, illnesses, or fatalities. This legislation applies to both the public and private sectors, requiring employers to contribute 1% of each employee’s monthly salary to the Employee Compensation Fund. This act provides compensation to employees and their dependents, promoting a safer work environment and contributing to better recruitment and retention. 3. Industrial Training Act, 2011 (As Amended) The Industrial Training Act was designed to encourage skill acquisition within industries and commerce by mandating contributions to a training fund. Employers with five or more employees or an annual turnover of N50 million or more are required to contribute 1% of their annual payroll. Organizations can receive up to a 50% reimbursement of their training costs, incentivizing them to invest in employee development, thereby improving their attractiveness in the job market. 4. Pensions Reform Act, 2014 Under the Pension Reform Act, employers with at least fifteen employees must establish a Contributory Pension Scheme. Employees contribute 8% of their monthly salary, while employers contribute a minimum of 10%. This scheme ensures post-retirement financial security for employees, making organizations offering such benefits more appealing to prospective talent and strengthening their recruitment efforts. 5. Trade Union Act and Trade Dispute Act The Trade Union Act guarantees workers the right to organize, strike, and negotiate collectively, while the Trade Dispute Act lays out procedures for resolving labor disputes. Together, these laws help maintain a fair balance between employer and employee interests. Organizations that recognize and engage with trade unions can foster healthier employee relations, making them more attractive places to work. 6. National Minimum Wage Act, 2019 The National Minimum Wage Act sets a minimum wage of N30,000 per month for organizations with 25 or more employees. This law excludes part-time, seasonal, or commission-based workers. It also establishes a Tripartite Committee responsible for reviewing the national minimum wage every five years. Compliance with this legislation ensures competitive compensation, helping organizations attract and retain talent by providing fair wages. 7. The Nigerian Factories Act, 2004 The Nigerian Factories Act requires factories to implement strict health and safety measures to prevent workplace accidents. Provisions include maintaining hygienic conditions, providing separate accommodations for male and female employees, offering first aid, and supplying Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). By ensuring compliance with these safety standards, organizations can enhance their reputation and appeal to potential employees by providing a secure work environment. 8. Personal Income Tax Act The Personal Income Tax Act mandates that employers must deduct and remit personal income taxes to the relevant Inland Revenue Service based on the employee’s state of residence. Adhering to this act ensures tax compliance and demonstrates the organization’s financial transparency and integrity, key factors in attracting high-quality talent. 9. National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) Act The NHIS Act aims to provide broader healthcare access to Nigerians, encouraging the adoption of health insurance schemes for employees. While coverage is relatively high for federal employees, state and informal sectors still have lower participation. The NHIS regulates Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs) and other healthcare providers, ensuring that employees have access to quality health services. Offering comprehensive healthcare benefits can significantly boost an organization’s recruitment appeal. By adhering to these nine key legislations, organizations can streamline their recruitment processes while ensuring compliance with Nigeria’s labor laws. These measures foster a fair, secure, and attractive working environment that will help attract and retain top talent. Users can now schedule tweets using the main Twitter Web app. The tool enables users to create a tweet and then schedule a time and date for it to be posted. Users can also schedule tweets for up to a year in advance. The microblogging site had experimented with the schedule tweet feature back in November 2019. However, most users needed to log in using Tweetdeck or other third-party services that supported the feature in order to use the service as it wasn’t available to everyone. To schedule tweets: — Type in the tweet — Tap on the calendar tab at the bottom just beside the smiley tab — Set a date and time for the tweet to be sent out Twitter also posted a video demonstration of the feature. Twitter users can also now save drafts on the web app. However, the drafts can only sync and be accessible in other web sessions and not the app. According to Twitter; “Right now, Tweet drafts saved on desktop or mobile web will be accessible via desktop or mobile web only.” To save drafts on the web app: —Type in the tweet — Try to cancel the tweet and then choose the option to save to drafts Users can also schedule tweets from their drafts by pulling them up, completing the tweet, and scheduling. The rise in COVID-19 cases in Nigeria and other parts of the globe have made ventilators a much sought-after equipment. However, the average cost of a standard ventilator is often prohibitive and out of the reach of many public health care systems. Nevertheless, renowned Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), Philips has designed the Respironics E30, a ventilator which offers efficient utility and which costs 75 per cent less than other variants in the market. Here is everything you need to know about this cost-effective ventilator. First, ventilators just like the Philips Respironics E30 are authorised for use in the treatment of patients who have breathing difficulties. Breathing disorders and respiratory insufficiency are leading symptoms of a critical COVID-19 case. Thus, while testing and social distancing are effective ways to prevent infections; ventilators are important in treating people who have already begun manifesting symptoms after infection. The world as a whole had not foreseen a pandemic of this scale. Thus, there have been shortages of essential equipment such as ventilators in the health sector. Indeed, healthcare workers are overworked, hospitals are overcrowded and ventilators are in short supply. In addition to this, these ventilators are usually expensive. That is, until now. Philips' response to the current crisis is to come up with not just ventilators but effective ones that are much cheaper than those already in use. The Respironics E30 is a useful alternative, especially when more expensive, fully equipped models are not available. The Respironics E30 is easy to use and setting it up requires simple procedures. Thus, almost all healthcare workers can install it for patients' use. Also, it protects healthcare providers from the risk of infection because it comes with bacterial/viral filters. Furthermore, the Respironics E30 supplies high levels of ‘inspired oxygen’ too. And, it comes with on-screen respiratory monitoring features that show pressure, tidal volume, RR, Minute Ventilation, leak, and other useful details. There are alarms for notifications too. Equally important, Philips worked with a group of engineers versed in respiratory care to develop this device. The foregoing ensured the production of a ventilator which ticks all the right boxes. The ventilator is provided under the Emergency Use Authorization issued by the US Food and Drugs Adminstration (FDA) concerning ventilator tubing connectors and ventilator accessories. For Nigeria, the Philips Respironics E30 is truly good news. It means that more people who need ventilators can afford it at a cheaper rate. As a matter of fact, you can pre-order yours right away from TD Africa, Africa’s leading technology distributor. To take advantage of this excellent offer, please contact +234 809 049 0778 to be among the first to get your hands on these amazing, cost-effective ventilators. Iran’s group of hackers take responsibility for hacking a U.S. government website in their first cyber attack two days after their military chief’s death. The website holds Federal publications that the public can access for free. In what looks like the first of a series of Iran cyber attacks, a U.S. website suffered a hack. Although there is no official confirmation from the White House yet, it appears to be the case. The attack comes a few hours after Donald Trump, president of the United States made further threats against Iran. In the wake of the assassination of Qassem Soleimani, Iran had issued an official statement about avenging his death. Iranian authorities had said it was not a matter of if but when. The slain military leader who is to be buried on Tuesday was viewed as a martyr. However, Trump did not take the threat lying down. Despite having a largely divided country because of his overall attitude, he took to Twitter to make a counter-threat. He tweeted.... Keep reading: https://www.plat4om.com/?p=34305

Netflix said it was cooperating with a probe into whether it evaded taxes in Italy. The company will do this even though it has no office or employees in that country. The crux of the matter appeared to be whether server units used to help handle the streaming load for the California-based firm were enough to designate it as having permanent status in Italy in the eyes of local tax collectors. Netflix provides the boxed computers to internet service providers in Italy. The computers are about the size of small desks. It helps to reduce the pressure that heavy video data streaming can put on their networks. “Netflix has been working closely with the Italian tax authorities,” a spokeswoman told AFP. “We pay all the taxes due in Italy and other countries around the world.” Netflix, which considers itself an entertainment company rather than a technology company, said it invests millions of euros in Italian productions. Netflix, which landed in Italy in 2015, had some 1.4 million subscribers there last year, according to the Comparitech technology site. AFP was not able to confirm the investigation immediately with financial police or Milan’s public prosecutor’s office. Prosecutors in the northern Italian city have led several major tax investigations against US web giants. These investigations allow the Italian government to recover millions of euros. Last year, Facebook agreed to pay Italy more than 100 million euros ($110 million) after just such a probe. Online retail giant Amazon forked out over 100 million euros in 2017, while Google paid 306 million euros. They followed Apple, which in 2015 handed over more than 300 million euros.
