Travel / Re: The Types Of Passengers In Airline by brainbox2014(m): 3:33pm On Sep 21, 2015
midehi2:
1. The complainer: The passenger who demands a seat, snacks and drinks and constantly uses the call button.

2. The armrest hog also known as "The armrest dominator", the passenger that feels its their right to share your armrest.

3. The couples: This includes "the family who've never flown before" or who rarely travel, they do not have their passports ready, cannot find their tickets and cannot lock the lavatory door or find the light switch.

4. The disease sharer: The passenger that most people dread sitting next to, especially if they do not cover their mouth while coughing, or sneeze all over your food and wipe their hand on their tray.

5. The drinker: The passenger who orders a cocktail as soon as the drink cart arrives, complains about the cost,
drinks some more, and either ends up smashed, embarrassing themselves or sleep and snore loudly.

6. The easy-going passenger: Also known as "Mr. Easy going", this type of passenger is the one who is considerate to fellow passengers and air attendants and who understands that bad weather
can cause delays and that it is not anyone's fault.

7. The ill-mannered: This is the type of passenger who ignores the instructions of the flight attendants and places their
bags in the middle of the overhead compartments, and uses their phone even after the flight attendant has asked them to turn it off.

8. The luggage hog: The passenger who will do anything to avoid a checked bag and brings on too much hand
luggage, or refuses to admit that their bag is too large to fit in the overhead compartment then complains that they cannot find a space and crushes everyone else's possessions.

9. The odour offender: In the small, confined space of the cabin, smells often seem amplified. The offender is the passenger who has foul body odour as if they haven't had a shower for weeks and do not believe in deodorant.

10. The oversized passenger: The constant downsizing of the plane and seats can cause real discomfort for fat passengers. They are required to take the armrest space and most of your personal space and force you against the window or into the aisle.

11. The recliner: The recliner or "The lounger", also known as "The guy who still thinks it's okay to recline in coach" is the passenger who even though they know everyone is cramped, still reclines their seat so that you cannot even go to the toilet.

12. The sleeper: The sleeper, also known as the "guy who snores the entire flight" is the passenger who is either
snoring loudly next to you or using you as a pillow grin

13. The talker: The passenger who will continue to talk to you even when you have closed your eyes, put on your
headphones, started your laptop or opened your book. grin

14. The techies: The techies include; the "gadget guy" or "smartphone addict" who insists that they are turning their
phone off even though they are really texting; the "headphone wearer" who does not take their headphones off when the flight attendant is asking them a
question and wonders why they cannot understand what they are being asked and the headphone wearer who plays their music so loud that all the other passengers can hear it.

15. The toilet goer: The toilet goers also known as "people with weak bladders", are those who spend most of their time walking up and down the aisles to go to the toilet...lmao.

oya start confessing the category you belong to....grin

figo05 confess, don't just lie... cheesy

You forgot one category; the OBSERVER... Who actually takes time to identify the different kinds of passengers

Family / Re: Have You Checked Your Microwave For Radiation Lately? by brainbox2014(m): 9:30pm On Aug 21, 2015
Before you dispose your microwave: Note about using a cell phone to test for microwave leaks

Some web sites recommend using a cell phone to test a microwave oven for radiation leakage. You are supposed to put your cell phone in the oven and try to call it. If it rings, it is supposed to indicate a leak. However, this method is wrong because cell phones operate at different frequencies than microwave ovens. Even if the cell phone rings in the oven, this does not indicate a leak, so it is nothing to worry about. Protection against microwave leakage in microwave ovens is specifically tuned to the frequency of the microwaves (2.4 GHz) and is not expected to prevent other frequencies to get through (cell phone frequencies are in the 800 to 1900 MHz range).

Eronmosele:

When I read posts like this, my first inclination is to simply ignore. But when I read your response, I discovered my job had just been reduced. I would have liked your post except that we disagree on only one point. I believe God is a good God. He does no evil. He may allow or permit evil but He is never the originator. He is good God. The issue is when we are faced with the unfavorable results of our actions, we wonder why, then suggest God must be wicked or evil. He is a just God. I am so happy you noticed that the op quoted verses from the old testament and the error is quite apparent. The old testament reads like a poem. It usually cannot be interpreted without a clear understanding of context. I used to be confused until I understood. As a boy, my first bibles thankfully were KJV's so I learnt to read carefully from a very early age. The old testament is referred to as the 'shadow' of things to come which of course was revealed in the new testament, which is Christ Jesus. It all points in the direction of Christ Jesus. Is the old testament God's word? Yes by all means, we would never have understood the new testament and the work of grace if there was no old Testament! But we must always read it with understanding that comes from the new Testament because now we have the 'image'. Finally I want to say this, if a man has not encountered God personally, there is not much he can know about these things we write about. I have had marvellously tangible experiences that I cannot explain in mere words and how I wish every Christian has had these sort of experiences. I have been at the crossroads before believe me. I am not one of those who are Christians today simply because I was born into a Christian home, as is my privilege. I have a very critical and restless mind, I could easily have made sense of all the anti God theories. But this God, He is my God from now even unto the end!
Thank you for your response, I respect it.

And to those who still believe God does not exist, I feel really sorry for you. Truly. I wish I could help. You remind me of the man who swore by his life the other day in a bus that there is nothing like HIV! As a medic, I have come face to face with the virus and seen first hand how it has devastated lives and families. But how can I help such a man? Let me suggest to you a very effective solution. Are you at that crossroad? You want to know God, if He truly exists? It's simple. Ask Him to reveal Himself to you. There is no special prayer format. Just say and mean it from the depths of your heart. God if You are real please reveal yourself to me and show me the true way that leads to you. Be ready for the shock of your Life!
God bless you.

On the point of God being evil I'll like to rephrase. It's relative. One of the definitions of the word evil is an intention to harm or punish. Humans who do wrong will see God as evil when he decides to punish them. That's my point. So while you see Him in the nice, all-loving picture, do not forget that He is a consuming fire who can consume those who do evil. It is in that context that He appears evil to those who do evil. For example, he consumed a whole city of Sodomites with fire. So God is not harmless. He can cause great havoc and He owes no one any explanation. Neither does He need anyone to defend Him. People sometimes define good as nice and harmless, and that's where they get it wrong with God.

Talking about after-life, Muhammad Ali has got something to say (watch here >>
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2QE9XBovMk0 ).

Back to the subject of God being evil, well, maybe she's not very far from the truth, just that she's got a jaundiced view of the facts. The fact is, God is an absolute God capable of doing both good and evil. He is God be it in light or in darkness. He remain God regardless of what you think of Him (we are just like tiny dots that will make no difference if we all decide to speak against his sovereignty. He ain't no democratic leader). But the question is; when (and to whom) does he decide to be evil. To those who do good he'll be good and to those who do evil, he will 'punish' (a term you'll consider as 'evil' when you're on the wrong side). However, God has been more tolerant in this dispensation of grace unlike the time of the law and prophets when he used the mosaic laws to judge people almost instantly. But be not deceived however, his tolerance is giving you the grace to ammend your ways so as to avoid eternal damnation. Pulling out some verses from the old testament is not sufficient to have a holistic view of God's personality. What you need is an encounter which you can freely get through the salvation offered by Jesus.

Politics / Petrocalypse: My Thoughts On Nigeria's Current Situation by brainbox2014(m): 5:58pm On May 25, 2015
What we have in Nigeria now can be said to be a near-apocalypse (petrocalypse). Look at this.. No light, no fuel (even diesel is now being affected and the price of gas has almost doubled), very soon, no network (since they use diesel in powering generators used for masts), very soon, no water (except you are going to use solar energy or visit the marine powers by going to the river smiley). Some people will trek ehn. All these people trekking for GEJ and GMB still have more trekking to do. Some will still trek to Congo. Imagine a mass exodus characterised by a large number of smelling trekkers (where you go see water bath). They'll look like zombies in the 'zombie land' movie. For those who still have network (maybe 0.5G), they can tweet stuffs like ‪#‎NaijaApocalypse‬ ‪#‎TrekkingThings‬.

Jumia and Konga should start selling donkeys now o. I'd like to get one, though I wish Jumia could actually sell petrol sha the way Konga is selling engine oil. (Nothing wey person no go see for this life. On top sey i wan buy engine oil, i go dey order am online...funny people)

People will soon start considering firewood for cooking. As for the marketers hoarding fuel, don't worry, very soon people will start bursting pipelines. A lot of jobless youths will start considering oil bunkery. Black market hustlers will port first. The possibilities are endless but I believe none of that will happen. The going gets tough when the tough gets going. The night is darkest when dawn is nigh. This particular time will go down in history as a turning point; a positive marker. Greatness lies ahead and we must stay positive as a nation. I am not saying Buhari is a magician but I know he has the will to effect positive changes, no matter how small they seem from the start. Nigerians will have to be patient (bitter truth) and let him first clear the mess GEJ left before we can see meaningful change.

GOD BLESS NIGERIA.

Here's a comment from a blog on which I first read the piece

Chimamanda, nice piece but this is not a matter to over-flog. You’re not more Igbo than me and many others saying “let’s move on” “calm down”. Many of us your fans will like to see how you can promote national unity through your writings. You write with too much ethnic fervour for a writer that all Nigerians will like to see as a national ambassador. At the end, what reaction do you expect from your readers in writing this poignant criticism of what you consider to be anti-igbo trend? That we Igbos should hate those of our countrymen from other tribes more, feel oppressed, disliked and hold our heads down like an ostrich or take up cudgels against the Oba of Lagos who showed so much scorn for our tribe? You don’t live amongst us so it’s dangerous to yield to your temptation. If ethnic strife breaks out here, the genocide will be a material for your story telling abroad but some of us here may not be alive to read the story. Nigerians are coming out of those primordial ethnic sentiments you’re promoting. We are focusing on issues of development and the collective progress of all tribes, all tongues, all cultures in Nigeria. Igbos love Yorubas and Yorubas love Igbos. Leave all that story that do not change our lives for the better in any way my sister." - Stanley

In a country where militants are given the work of the NAVY to secure pipelines; where paid OPC goons are being secured by the Police while protesting violently and senselessly; where the first lady defies all ethics and asks her blind supporters to stone anyone that speaks of change; where the military forces, media houses & religious entities have been bought over by the ruling party; where the number one citizen states that stealing is not corruption and even attempts to defend it; where 1.8 million 'invisible' jobs were created by FG; where a menace that 'seemingly' could not be annihilated in 5 years, has been effectively silenced in less than 6 weeks [the list goes on....], what do we need?

Literature / A Short Story: Here's Why You Should Stop Spreading Rumours by brainbox2014(m): 10:35am On Mar 16, 2015
Here's Why You Should Think Before Talking.

Once upon a time an old man spread rumors that his neighbor was a thief. As a result, the young man was arrested. Days later the young man was proven innocent. After been released he sued the old man for wrongly accusing him. In court the old man told the Judge: 'They were just comments, didn't harm anyone.'
The judge, before passing sentence on the case, told the old man to 'Write all the things you said about him on a piece of paper. Cut them up and on the way home; throw the pieces of paper out and come tomorrow to hear the sentence.'
The next day, the judge told the old man: 'Before receiving the sentence, you will have to go out and gather all the pieces of paper that you threw out yesterday.' The old man said: 'I can't do that. The wind spread them and I won't know where to find them.'
The judge then replied: 'The same way, simple comments may destroy the honor of a man to such an extent that one is not able to fix it. If you can't speak well of someone, rather don't say anything wrong...
'Let's all be masters of our mouths, so that we won't be slaves of our words.'

Politics / ISIS & Boko Haram Collabo: What This Means For Nigerians by brainbox2014(m): 1:11pm On Mar 13, 2015
Skeptics might not take this post or the threat of the BH-ISIS deal seriously but before you continue in your illusion of a safe and secure future, do not forget the popular paradox that a man will only have peace when he's prepared for war (i.e any situation). It will be a fatal mistake to ignore the recent development in local and international terrorism as the dreadful ISIS accepts BH's plea of allegiance. Nigerians must wake up now or be awakened later by a massive surge of violence they didn't prepare for. Here are a few notable lines for the people and leaders of the sleeping giant.

1) It's time to stop playing useless partisan politics. This will only weaken our much needed unity at this point. Terrorism must be treated as a common enemy and not as a tool in the hands of a particular tribe or religion.

2) The vulnerable youths must be engaged by FG before ISIS gets to them. ISIS is known to recruit more than any terrorist organisation. The group is a compendium of people from different parts of the world. Our government must create programs to engage vulnerable minds and idle hands.

3) Stop spreading religious hate messages through social media. It will only worsen an ominous situation. STOP IT..!!!

4) Nigerians need to stand united or crash divided....regardless of tribe, religion or political affiliation. If we become enemies of one another, then we will be doing even more damage to this country than all terrorist organisations combined.

5) If the culmination of avarice going on in our kleptocracy doesn't end, then we'll be toying will trouble. Nigerians must kill corruption now before it kills us. Corruption is the root cause of every crime, underdevelopment, disharmony in this country.

6) Praying and taking necessary actions should go together.

45 LIFE LESSONS WRITTEN BY A 90 YEAR OLD

1. Life isn’t fair, but it’s still good.
2. When in doubt, just take the next small step.
3. Life is too short not to enjoy it.
4. Your job won’t take care of you when you are sick. Your friends and family will.
5. Don’t buy stuff you don’t need.
6. You don’t have to win every argument. Stay true to yourself.
7. Cry with someone. It’s more healing than crying alone.
8. It’s OK to get angry with God. He can take it.
9. Save for things that matter.
10. When it comes to chocolate, resistance is futile.
11. Make peace with your past so it won’t screw up the present.
12. It’s OK to let your children see you cry.
13. Don’t compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about.
14. If a relationship has to be a secret, you shouldn’t be in it.
15. Everything can change in the blink of an eye… But don’t worry; God never blinks.
16. Take a deep breath. It calms the mind.
17. Get rid of anything that isn’t useful. Clutter weighs you down in many ways.
18. Whatever doesn’t kill you really does make you stronger.
19. It’s never too late to be happy. But it’s all up to you and no one else.
20. When it comes to going after what you love in life, don’t take no for an answer.
21. Burn the candles, use the nice sheets, wear the fancy lingerie. Don’t save it for a special occasion. Today is special.
22. Overprepare, then go with the flow.
23. Be eccentric now. Don’t wait for old age to wear purple.
24. The most important sex organ is the brain.

29. What other people think of you is none of your business.
30. Time heals almost everything. Give Time time.
31. However good or bad a situation is, it will change.
32. Don’t take yourself so seriously. No one else does.
33. Believe in miracles.
34. God loves you because of who God is, not because of anything you did or didn’t do.
35. Don’t audit life. Show up and make the most of it now.
36. Growing old beats the alternative — dying young.
37. Your children get only one childhood.
38. All that truly matters in the end is that you loved.
39. Get outside every day. Miracles are waiting everywhere.
40. If we all threw our problems in a pile and saw everyone else’s, we’d

41. Envy is a waste of time. Accept what you already have, not what you think you need.
42. The best is yet to come…
43. No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.
44. Yield.
45. Life isn’t tied with a bow, but it’s still a gift.
