naturalwaves: Your argument is very senseless. Is Asa the only Nigerian foreigners request her songs? How does the fact her song is being requested justify the fact that she has had a great influence? Asa is good no doubt but insulting Whizkid is a no no.I do not know why you guys always hate on the young man(whiz kid) doing wonders and doing good for himself. What do you mean by lyrically sound? How will those who do not understand Yoruba request for her songs since they do not understand the language? Is that not enough reasons to tell you that Music goes beyond lyrics. Did you not see that you contradict yourself? Having said that, you lots need to be educated and schooled on what is meant by music genre and the dominant characteristic of each genre of music. You know nothing about music and just saying trash.
I don't understand why you guys always taking medications for someone else's ailments. Must your arguments be insultive? If you like, burn down your family house because you love Whizzkid. I don't hate him neither will I hurt a fly for Asa. They remain icons in their own respect but insulting people because of their opinion, please grow up already young man/woman. Don't be too toxic for some common sense.
safarigirl: white people have requested Wizkid's songs, Davido's songs, Niniola's songs, D'banj, Turn Face and P-Square's too.
Why should white people be the standard Africans hold their artistes to? Do they understand our music? If I play country music for an Esan man, or Blues for a Tiv man, will he apprrciate it the way he appreciates his own traditional song? Is it not white people that sing that incoherent rubbish called Metal music?
Stop worshipping white people and their opinions. Have some self worth
'white' is the language many Nigerians understand when refering to Europeans and Americans so I used the language anyone here will easily identify with. Talking of self worth and appreciating what comes out of Africa, I do and will promote the African brand anywhere. Whatever is wrong with saying whites appreciate our brand, I do not understand. Maybe you are the ethnophobic one. If you don't want to identify with the what comes from the 'whites', burn your phone, it's not an African invention.
demolinka: In celebration of the life and times of one of the most influential Nigerian musicians to grace the booth and create legendary works, DAGRIN, we look at five other Artistes from the 2000's till present whose styles and musical influence affected and are still affecting the Nigerian music space.
1. Tuface Idibia: More commonly known nowadays by his other alias, Tubaba, he has been perhaps the most influential Nigeian music artiste over the past two decades. Right from his days as a member of the defunct R&B group, Plantashun Boiz, Tubaba's greatness as a vocalist and performer was never in doubt. His solo career began with the launch of the 2004 album Face to Face which turned unbelievers to disciples and earned mostly positive reviews. Though mired in a couple of controversies over the years, he is still highly respected in the game. The singer has been a reference point of influence, both in style and substance, for even his contemporaries. Artistes like P-Square, D'banj, Timaya, Wizkid, Timi Dakolo, etc, have testified to his influence on their careers, as well as their lives, many pointing out his humility at such great heights a source of reverence for them.
2. Asa: Asa has 3 studio albums to her credit, the first of which was the self-titled 2007 release, Asa, which remains one of the greatest studio albums in Nigerian music history. She emerged on the scene at a time pop music was the mainstay in the contemporary space - largely dominated by men. Not the archetypal diva, the guitar-strumming, dreadlock-wearing, bespectacled, and gruff-sounding soul singer, became a breakthrough for alternative sounds as well as many other female artistes in Nigeria.
3. Rooftop MCs: True, they weren't the face of alternative music, neither did they wield earth shaking influence as musicians, but no other artiste or group has managed such controversial efforts at paradigm shifting, especially in the Nigerian gospel music scene, as these dudes. Their first album efforts, Shock Therapy, a 2003 rebellious mix of rap, rock and Afrocentric vibes laced with gospel undertones, that commanded attention, worry and discourse from conservatives, earned them critical acclaim and a whole lot of fans - Christian and non-christian. Their unrelenting efforts finally culminated in the 2007 Cobhams Asuquo produced Lagimo, perhaps their greatest work till date. Their ability to cater to a wide range of audience, stir up critical discussions in Nigerian christian circles and gospel music sect, and even among lovers of rap and rock music genres definitely earns them a place on the influential list.
4. Mode Nine: The rap game in nigeria could easily be described 'before and after Mode 9'. The 7-time Lyricist on the Roll award winner at the Headies burst onto a rap scene which was relatively unpopular and needing a next level push, as most of the rap songs aired on radio where foreign, save a little dose of Trybesmen, Ruggedman, Six foot plus and a few others, He came bearing metaphors and slinging sharp punchlines with reckless abandon, soon becoming the focal point for the rap genre in Nigeria which subsequently began to witness a surging number of skilled entrants. His formidable style of hip hop which stays rooted in the origins of flow is blessed with 7 studio albums and 5 mixtapes. Modo!
5. Wizkid: Since the release of the 2010 hit single Holla at your boy, the kid has been dropping mega-hit after mega-hit. He has collaborated with almost every big name in the game and has raked in tons of endorsements in the last couple of years. He oozes swag that young, aspiring and even established Artistes wish they owned. With 3 highly successful and critically acclaimed studio albums, his entry into the game saw a major influx of young cats who changed the dynamics of the industry and brought a new vibe which heavily influenced Nigerian pop culture. A testament to the strength of his brand is his Starboy jerseys, a collaboration with Nike, which went live on September 10, 2018 and sold out in 10 mins.
Asa is the only brand that can stand alone internationally. Her songs are evergreen and have made top tens around the globe on several occasions. Imagine white people requesting Asa's songs on radio (even when they don't understand some of the Yoruba love). 2face is another legend but I give it to Asa over any Nigerian artist. Whizzkid is an insult to this list. The people on the list are lyrically sound save for whizzkid.
EzegeNG: About N125m worth of methamphetamine were seized from two Nigerians in separate police operations in Naga City, Camarines Sur over the weekend.
Operatives arrested a Nigerian businessman identified as Azubuike Obiaghanwa Onwigbolu, 32, a resident of Angeles City, Pampanga, at 2:15 a.m. on Sunday, through a buy-bust operation wherein a police personnel acted as a poser buyer.
Before Sunday’s arrest, a similar buy-bust operation was held on Saturday that resulted in the arrest of Mbaneto Sopuluchukwu, 22. The Philippines Dangerous Drugs Act prescribes the death penalty for drug traffickers.
joshuisiukwu: A Nigerian man who posed as 'life's seer' in his his Facebook post, stated that 'life has passed you, if you haven't entered plane at 40'.The Nigerian man, Al Pacino Lee Montero, who works with the Bureau of Public Enterprises, wrote '
Lamasta: Yes they are still learners and local champion music is not all about jumping up and down on stage and shouting trash. Look at late Lucky Dube and Bob Marley this ones command global respect cos of there songs look at late M.Jackson this one na legend. How many Nigerian musician apart from King Sunny Ade, Wasiu Ayinde Barrister, and a host of others that are truelly passing a message with there songs, but this present crops of musicians are just noise makers as far as am concerned. Tu face Idibia, still remains one I respects a lot sha My one cent...
You made some sense there. As for me, Asa remains the only Nigerian artist I can nominate for any global recognition. In fact, she is the only artist whose albulm I can buy with my money.

Many Malaysians were proud of him and applauded his amazing ability to make mental calculations.
To top of it all, his confidence and personality really shined through.

Google 'the boy with the incredible brain'. That guy is the only normal savant in the world. He can learn a new language and speak it on live TV in one week. He does more complex calculations with his head. His name is Daniel Tameth.
dainformant: Investigation has clearly implicated the suspect for aiding and abetting the commission of several high-profile armed robbery and kidnapping operations in the North West and North Central States of the Country. The suspect is notorious for providing spiritual guidance and intelligence for kidnappers, before and after their operations.
His arrest, no doubt, will assist Police operatives to apprehend several other kidnappers and vicious criminals still at large.
....so, he couldn't provide the spiritual guidance and intelligence against his own arrest? Shior kelebe! No hiding place for evil. bush meat will surely catch hunter one day.

Tedassie: Thank you too. But are you also Roman Catholic? Just asking
The Catholics here, tell me they don't worship Mary and bla, bla, bla Babylonian worship is what Roman Catholicism has brought. Santeria(the worship of saints) is demonic. We should not ascribe any special form of veneration or what have you to any mortal(living or dead) other than Jesus Christ(Yeshua al mashiach). Why? Because in his name, everything on earth and in the Heavenlies is being subject to.
No, I am not catholic. I only gave reference to Mary because she was someone who lived a good life just the same way I would have said good things about Peter, Paul, Daniel or any other patriarchs and nothing more. It is only touching that Mary has been given the image and worship she didn't ask for neither did the Bible ascribe to her.
Tedassie: Lool...you obviously don't know you worship a Principality that you all call Mary or Queen of Heaven. stay there na and be deceived with a false gospel Galatians 1:8
How many Satanists have you met though? smh
Thank you my brother. God bless you. I particularly have a problem with the association of the title 'queen of heaven's to that innocent, god-fearing, obedient and grace-fille woman, Mary. All through the scripture, God boldly spoke against and punished those who associated with queen of heaven. Jer 7:18, Jer 44:17-26. This is not hatred for people. It is a call to studying what the Bible says and a stop to unbiblical trends.
benny4wax: The temptation to quote you was so much, I couldn't resist it.
First and foremost, I completely disagree with you on your stand that we can't suffer for the sin of the world or yourself all in a bid to appease God. Go and and tell that to Catholic monks (Priests) who decided to isolate themselves from civilization and instead choose to live in thick forests with wild animals, while pastors of new generation churches leave luxurious lifestyles at the expense of their members.
In conclusion, ask yourself "why then do we christians fast??" I believe your pastor encourages fasting and penance.
Let's stop this Church bashing. As Christians, we all share in the grace of Christs resurrection. Shalom
First, I disagree with you on almost all these things. most of them lack biblical backing. Catholic monks who isolate themselves are not suffering for the sins of the world. It's like saying a convicted thief can defend another thief in a court of law. We all have sinned and no man is just or righteous enough to shoulder the sins of himself let alone that of the world.
Regarding fasting. Fasting WILL NOT take away your sins. If it does, the purpose of Jesus' death is defeated. He is the final and ultimate price for the sins of the world. Heb 1:17-19 should open your mind to the fact that disobedience to the laws of God and acceptance of Jesus' death has no other prerequisite. Before the death of Jesus, people fasted and offered sacrifices for the remission of their sins but not after God gave His Amen (Jesus). The only priest who was tempted and found without fault has made ALL who accept Him candidate of forgiveness through His blood. (Heb 4:16) Fasting can be done to gain self control over the flesh, to show brokenness and not with the intention of cajoling God with your attempt at self righteousness. Fasting can also be done to help us focus on God and get direction (Acts 13:2-3,). It is written nowhere in the gospel that fasting is a prerequisite to death of Jesus. You can fast to show brokenness. It is not a guarantee you will be forgiven if you fail to accept Jesus as the Way, the Truth and the Life. John 14:6.
Please brother. Don't read the Bible. Study it with the help of the Holy Spirit. It gives understanding to the simple.
Ubenedictus: Our worship etc doesnt affect GOD's personality but it certainly gives God glory.
David slept on the floor, wore sack clothes and fasted for God to spair his son frm death due to his sin! Some people do that a pray for others.
No amount of sleeping on the floor can forgive your sins if you refuse to accept that Jesus is the redemption you need. You can he sober and wear rags cloths for 1000000years but without repentance and acknowledgement of the Messiahship of Jesus, no forgiveness. No man can erase or shoulder the sins of the himself let alone that of others. For ALL have sinned. Rom 3:23-26. Ignorance of this is dangerous and can lead to a feeling of self righteousness. Knowingly ignoring that fact is however disobedience + rebellion which before God are like idolatry and witchcraft. 1 Sam 15:23
Ubenedictus: 1. one of its aim is to subject d flesh to d spirit. 2. yes just as the tire is part of a car, so is mortification part of spiritual exercise. 3. God, a body under d spirit glorify God. 4. yes, Jesus fasted 4 40 days.
You sounded some valid points. Now we can get started. I wanted to get your definition of mortification clearly before knowing how to rwsponse. To many Catholics, it includes mutilating your body whereas it is subjecting your desires to focus and be on the same page with God. Mortification should not be mutilation. However, mortification/spiritual exercise is not for God's benefits but for our benefit. He is God by Himself. Mortification or not, our worship or not, He doesn't diminish in personality. My initial argument about mortification was sparked by the fact that the late founder of block rosary slept on iron bed and block pillow because of the sin of the world. Sir, God is not appeased by that. He has given us just one solution, Jesus. Perfection is not by the flesh Galatians 3:3.
Mpanyi: He gave you reason from Bible and you are twisting it as you people normally do instead of believing in the truth exposed, just because you are meant to perish in your ignorance
I left the group of those who are to perish. I am led by the Spirit and Word of Jesus and not dogma.
Miarose: The church agrees that no one comes to the Father except through JESUS. Catholism does not teach that Mary is a way to the father. Our choice to honor her as guided by the church is not a sin. Please stop searching for a speck in our eye. Thank you.
It is easy to provide the passages but i doubt u will understand them since ur christian background doesnt include them that is why i said u should research it urself.
I have two questions for you before I respond to your response! 1. What is the reason for motification? 2. Is spiritual exercise the same as bodily motification? 3. Who does motification satisy? Men or God? 4. If Jesus is our model and He did not practice bodily motification on Himself, why should we do it?
Miarose: Dictionary meaning of mortification is the action of subduing one's bodily desires. fasting is mortification as seen in the book of Isaiah. So therefore it is a personal decision between a Christian and God on the manner of mortification to embark on .
Sight an instance of bodily mortification in new testament after the death of Jesus. Christ paid the price. Do not crucify Him again.
Miarose: Jesus first miracle was at the prompting of his mother, despite his protests that his time has not come. Catholics honor Mary and only require her to intercede to Jesus on their behalf. Catholics believe that Jesus is the only Way, the bible is clear..
Honoring Mary is not a sin but many Catholics worship her instead. You know this for a fact. There is however no biblical backing that Mary assumed the position of intercessor in heaven. The only advocate in heaven is Jesus and Jesus alone. Full stop!
Ubenedictus: Jesus' death is the very reason christian practice mortification (puting to death the desires of the flesh and training the spirit man) by grace! We fast also to put the flesh under the domination of the spirit.
Can you back up this claim with a Bible verse sir? I need enlightenment on the fact that Christians should practice mortification because of the death of Jesus.
Miarose: Remove the log in your eye before you remove the speck in your brother's eye.
Show me the log. I stand not for religion. I pray to God to beat out religion from my system and give me the person of Jesus instead. Religion was the error of the Pharisees and Sadducees. I am a Christian who is not bound by religion but who pushes to be transformed by looking at the image of Jesus and studying the Bible.

Ubenedictus: Google christian mortification and maybe you'll get a little insight.
It is the same reason john the baptist ate just locust and honey, wore skin and lived in the wilderness, it is the same reason we all fast and married people abstain from sex,...
Christ became our sacrifice and Passover. You can't suffer for the sin of the world or yourself all in a bid to appease God. If that is a prerequisite to redemption then, don't you think Jesus died in vain? Fasting is best done to appreciate and honor God amongst other reasons however.
