I seriously wish that I could give you a review of the cities. But unfortunately I can't. What really determines must time is how far the semester ticket can take you.
I have never for once worked in my city before.

I sort of made a stupid mistake when booking my flight ticket. I was penny wise but pound foolish.

I never checked for flights originating from Düsseldorf because I felt Frankfurt airport being in the center of Germany equals the fact that flights are cheaper there.

Turns out that that isn't true. I got to realize this after I had booked my flight ticket from Frankfurt which I required me to book bus ticket that gets me there.

Well, I learnt my lesson really hard as I had to leave home early and arrive the airport at 12am for a flight of 7am.

The 6 hours waiting time was hectic as I couldn't sleep. I was just restless all through.

The time for checking in came and it was a breeze as I had just one traveling box and hand luggage.

While waiting to board, announcements were made that the flight was fully booked and there is an option of checking in hand luggage.

Me I sha didn't answer and thank God I did not. It wa just as though I had a premonition that something was going to happen.

Trip to Nigeria.

If I was told that I will return back to Nigeria in my first years of moving abroad, I would definitely have argued. But it goes without saying that man proposes, God disposes.

With few months to go and examination knocking, I had to make plans about visiting Nigeria. As that then, I had no work but only few euros I had saved up for my bills.

I frantically searched for work, and I was so lucky to get a 4 weeks contract which I did with my body and soul despite lot of shits I had to deal with there.

Long story short, I booked my ticket with British Airways at a giveaway price of about €520. Then the main headache of what to buy for loved ones in Nigeria and the money to spend in Nigeria started giving me headaches because Nigerians wouldn't just accept the reality of bills we have to face here and the fact that I am a student who hasn't worked more than two months since I arrived coupled with the reality that this trip was not really pre-planned but it was necessary.

In the end, I told myself the better truth of not doing pass myself just because I just returned from 'abroad'. So I decided to tell them the blunt truth that I am a student and I would even appreciate any cash they can give me when going back.

That settled, I wrote my exams and packaged my bags to voyage 20 years into the past.

You'll still need to buy like a half ticket to Hamburg as Lübeck ticket doesn't cover and reach Hamburg.
As for job to survive as a student, you need German not certificate one but speaking and writing, this would get you a student job in cities like Hamburg, I can't speak for small cities.

As for car business, remember your permit of study is for study if you violate it and do extra unauthorized work without permission, foreign office might find out and Abeg no dey their matter or i didn't know the rules.

German first eben if your course is in English and thank me later.

My cousin that is inviting me for 2 weeks vacation only send a photocopy of his british passport bio data page and invitation letter indicating that he's going to be responsible for my accommodation and feeding. Though i will be the one responsible for travelling expenses.And there is a place in the form where they ask that who will pay for your expenses such as accommodation and food? And if someone other than yourself is paying for all or any part of the visit ? I might be wrong but 60 pounds for two weeks feeding? That's a big no.

You might need to bump your sightseeing and shopping budget a little bit as £100 won't seriously get you much. A pair of good jeans cost €39.99 in Germany tho.

Just help me generalise, for someone staying in let's say Lübeck, which is relatively close to hamburg how much can he/she make in a city like that during the semester and semester breaks. Have u seen students involved in exportation of vehicles, how possible is this?

Impossible is nothing. You can go into importation if you have the resources and connect. But don't get caught sha,because as a student, you're not allowed to own a business.

I really can't say anything about the city. But what I can advise you is to find out if the semester ticket gives you access to Hamburg and how far it is by train. Then you can visualize working in Hamburg.

My city is a relatively small one and I haven't worked here before due to language barrier so I can't say.

It is illegal to do two mini jobs (i.e two 450 jobs) because that way you wouldn't be paying tax. What you want to do is do one mini job and the other one has to be taxable (i.e you work more than 450 so that you can be taxed). So yes you can do two or more jobs but not more that one mini job.

You can repay your BA funds within a year not without somethings involved. You definitely want to find yourself in big cities like Munich, Hamburg, Bremen, Köln, Bonn, Berlin and the likes where there are relatively abundance of jobs and expensive house rents. Or you want to live close to these cities or travel to them. You will definitely have to miss lectures for some months. You need Deutsch as well to make make the job markets easily accessible for you. Above all you need strength because you have to work for coys like Daimler(Mercedes Benz), Ford, Amazon and the likes that pays well but drains your energy.

Every part of Germany is good as long as you survive and map out your next moves well.

P.S life becomes quite easy when you leave in big cities. But not everyone will find themselves in big cities so.....

I was going to generalize before, but I think it is best I don't.

My personal experience with 80% of Nigerians I have met here isn't smooth at all. We kinda see each other ad competition and hoard vital information or tends to give them out when it not useful again.

Almost all the jobs I have done here was through the connections of other African acquaintances. Nigerians will give you outdated information or rather not go into depth about the information.

I remember working a job with some fellow Nigerians and I kept on asking them what's the next hustle after the present one finishes but they wouldn't say anything. Long story short, little did I know that this particular guy in question has signed another contract that is to begin immediately the present one finishes.

As God will fortunately have it, one way or the other, my friends and I got the contract to work in the same place he started the new jobs several weeks after not knowing that the guy has even started working there for a long time.

Imagine the amount of money and energy that has been wasted before getting that job. If only the guy could have told us to go ask fot that particular job at the job firma.

In essence, don't bank 100% on the information you get from fellow country people. The vital part of it might be missing.

Having said that, it will be unfair to not to mention that the last jib I did was 100% recommended to me by a Nigerian, even though he also got the information from a Cameroonian

I finally resorted to settle down for tuition free countries... Germany, Norway (learnt Finland stopped being tuition free).


I like Germany but I don't think they're sociable. I learnt that they're so reserved...their language and all. I think that maybe a problem

Yes...the German economy is the largest in Europe.
They use euros and the cost of living maybe lower than Norway. And of course, they're part of the Schengen agreement.
The opportunities there are more for engineers and serious career people which my career no fall in for (photography and Marketing/business)

Norway...they use Norwegian Krone which is way less in value than the Euro (they're not in the European union)
Free tuition
I learnt they're more friendly and have more fun stuff to do
You rightly acknowledged that *all work and no play can get you frustrated and depressed*
They're part of the Schengen agreement equally and their standard of education and living is quite high
A greater majority of them speak English though you'll still need a good knowledge of Norwegian and Swedish to get access to more job opps

They also Grant PR after 3 years....M.sc is 2 years (it's counted for you) and they can grant you a job-seeker permit for 1 year if you apply (as I learnt)....making it 3 years

All these things sound so juicy ���

No be just to school I dey go...I dey reason take up one or two jobs to make ends meet
And further my career

You can still make money with your Photography skills in Germany. Just find yourself in big cities and socialize well and make use of the social media platform. I believe something will come out of it from you.
