Rhaegar was also affected by the shadow of Summerhall, because he was " born in grief " and was considered melancholic at times. . . . .

He was loved by all and wasn't a huge fan of violence.

Best thing yet, the show hasn't ruined his image by casting a random actor with near features and not perfect features.

stannis was a true baratheon through and through! He was the hapless victim of a charlatan selling a false religion for a high price! This can happen to the best of men. The real stain to the name baratheon was the unmanly renly, he was no stag! And there was no fury in him

But when Meera told Bran the story, she said crannogmen didn't have the skills the Knight of the laughing tree possessed.

My theory is Howland learned how to wield a sword and ride a horse properly after this incident. It's doesn't speak well of a high born if mere squires bullied you and a 15 year old girl came to your rescue.
Remind me again with specifics, what skills meera told bran crannogmen lacked? Just want to be sure you're not reading details into conversations that profer none! Then again, its a theory and you're entitled to that much

Again why allow squires bully him? He was of high birth (his family ruled the Neck then, still do)
How did Howland go from being tossed in the mud by squires to unseating three trained Knights?!
Where did the skills suddenly come from?
So according to yonce, the only response to bullying is violence right? I wonder what Jesus Christ and ghandi would say about that? Never mind, he could fight, that much we know, until you can prove you trained him yourself, when he was trained becomes irrelevant. Jojen reed couldn't fight for obvious reasons, meera reed could, i wonder who taught herhuh?

But where did his skill to ride a horse and joust suddenly come from. Meera said Howland was a crannogman and I believe they are not very skilled in battle except when they took lessons which I'm certain Howland didn't take.
assume a tad bit too much don't you? Why don't we stick to facts instead?
#fact how land reed was riding when he arrived at the tower of joy
#fact howland reed was a lord to be born to a lord, except samwell tarly, they all are trained by their fathers master at arms from a very young age
#fact not much was said about him before harrenhall, so we can't say he could not ride or he could for certain and if he could where and when he learned, but seeing as he rode into battle when Ned called his banners, the argument for he could ride trumps yours

Also when measly squires were shoving him to the dirt, he waited for a 15 year old girl to scare them away. . . . what a fighter grin

Yes, he fought alongside with Ned, and killed Arthur Dayne(in a cowardly way) but that was years later. Maybe he learned the way of the sword eventually. tongue
he was a crannogman so yes naturally he wasn't predisposed to war, and his pursuits and adventures indicate that unlike most men his age, he like his son jojen, had more interest in the history and mysticism of the old religion than in war and for all that, crannogmen like all other men wage war when required as their history would indicate that they have previously been at war with the starks, the Boltons, the freys, with andal invaders alongside the starks and the boltons so that squashes your presumption..............again! undecided

Not accurate. Dragonstone is the island that connects the Blackwater Bay to the Narrow Sea.

Because during peace and war, a deep sea port confers enormous advantage to Dragonstone. Since it is the primary link to Kings Landing via the Blackwater. You can imagine its importance to the trade and logistics of the capital. Even Ser Jaime said as much in the last episode that Dragonstone is the only logical place for Dany's armada to land because of the port (and not because it's Dany's ancestral home as someone purported here)
I stand corrected then, but still apart from its importance as a landing port for a foreign army when invading westeros, what strategic importance does it have when all the armies involved are local i.e a civil war? Kingslanding can change hands many times as it did in the dance of dragons but how will holding kingslanding determine the victor? And is kingslanding more vulnerable to attack from the sea via the blackwater or from land?

Howland Reed couldn't even fight or hold a sword. He was bullied by 3 squires younger than he was. . . .he was useless in the tournament.
Then Lyanna introduced him to her 4 brothers in a tent before she nursed his wounds. I think it was there and then that one of the Stark children decided to avenge their fellow Northman.

The Knight of the Laughing tree was smaller than most of the other competitors even smaller than Howland and rode his horse with grace (jousting is part how well you ride your horse)
Howland was useless on a horse.

Also the Knight had ill fitted, mismatched armour and a Sigil of a godswood with a smiling face.(why would Howland, a member of an established Northern house need a new unknown Sigil and carry worn out armour) The Knight also challenged the Knights of the three squires who bullied Howland and defeated them.

If the Knight was Howland, why would he hide behind an anonymous character?
The Knight was also a northerner but smallish (suggests strongly to be 15 year old Lyanna who rode horses better than most men)

Howland Reed couldn't have been the Knight. I strongly believed it was Lyanna. And when the Mad King sent Rhaegar to find out the identity of the Knight. . . Rhaegar reported that he never found the mystery Knight.

What if he did? And it was Lyanna and kept her secret because a woman. . .girl actually, couldn't enter the tourney. Maybe he was so impressed he just had to crown her QOLAB because she deserved to win something.

Hence the beginning of True love cool

Fangirl angry
Sorry fan girl grin

Howland reed was a good fighter, he was also a pacifist. Meaning he only fought when need demanded it! Kappish?
And he fought without his armor bearing his siegil because he wanted to teach the errant squires a lesson in humility without accrueing fame for himself so he required anonymity.
Also, he was at harrenhall rumor has it if jojen reed his son is to be believed anyway, on his way home back from the isle of faces, he was not there to joust or fight so the absence of any bit of weaponry or armor is thus explained. And remember howland reed campaigned with ned in battle throughout roberts rebellion and was at the tower of joy and Ned survived the sword of the morning thanks to him

Harrenhal is much more vital. Dragonstone is detached, that's why Stannis was chilling there while people were fighting on the mainland. I don't see how holding Dragonstone gives anyone a military advantage over someone holding Harrenhal.
Finally someone nails it!
Dragonstone's importance to Danny is mainly sentimental as her ancestral home chikena! There are other more strategic ports/bays/holdings she could have beached at that would put her within striking distance of kingslanding

Yes. I read about the Knight of the Laughing Tree in the books.

It would be extremely out of character for Rhaegar to kidnap and even rape Lyanna.

Think about it, what could his motives have possibly been?
where did it explitly say that lyanna was the knight of the laughing tree? I would have thought that it is known that howland reed was the knight of the laughing tree and rhaegar never found out the said knight's identity! Abi which book i read sef? Or shey na you read am downside up? I no come know again oh! shocked

My POV is Rhaegar The Dragonprince was awesome and didn't kidnap Lyanna or rape her. If he did why leave Arthur Dayne his most trusted confidant behind in Dorme and ride for the Trident?
You not a character in the world of ASOIAF are you? So why should you even have a POV? you have an opinion, which is a reflection of your outlook and another's POV at best, at worst we're just two mouthy GOT fanboys/addicts grin

Look at the map of Westeros again. Therein lies your answer.
I have, it shows dragonstone as an island at the entrance to the straits we call the sea of dorne and in the war amongst the living, how can it be more important than harrenhall in the bid to win control over westeros militarily?

Rhagear crownd Lyanna QOLAB not to spite Robert or to make anyone mad.

He did it because his father asked him to find out the identity of the Knight of the laughing tree who unseated the Knights whose squires had earlier bullied a northman (Meera Reed's father).

I think Rhaegar was impressed when he found out the Knight was actually Lyanna Stark hence why he crowned her QOLAB. The books never said she was expectionally beautiful, only pretty. . . . I think it was her fierce courage and big heart he crowned that day. cheesy
You must have read something i haven't, because his motives has only been speculated upon not established! He is even rumored to be the financial muscle of the whents in the staging of the harrenhal tourney, so let's stick to facts, he crowned lyanna QOLAB and appeared to kidnap and abscond with her, those two acts aren't worthy of a prince, the rest like they say is history

All I said was Ser Selmy is not a cunning man. He's loyal and truthful and does his duty.

If he says Rhaegar was a good man. I believe him.
[b]Good is always relative and from a person's perspective.
Everything I've read about Rhaegar points to a clam headed young man who was often too sad about his father's rule.

So far, nothing on the show seems to change that so he's a good man. cool[/quote]finally we agree on something! Was that so difficult? Even the universally acclaimed to be bad Ramsey Bolton had his kernel master's daughter as an admirer who only saw good in him so POV bro, its all about the POV

I have tried, albeit unsuccessfully, to make the same point. Perhaps, you'll be luckier.

A case in point is Harrenhal. In season 2, we saw that when Gregor Clegane arrived, he was putting the people that held the castle (including the household staff and bandits the rounded up on the road) to the sword until Lord Tywin arrived and asked him to put the able bodied men to use not to the sword. Now the question is: If a sh*thole like Harrenhal was being guarded (and we don't for whom, like everyone is asking in case of Dragonstone), then it makes no sense that a more important Dragonstone would be left fallow.
What in the seven hells makes dragonstone more important than harrenhall?
