bykebyke:and why not?? selina & frank are both incumbent presidents that attained mercurial power by default(no one voted them into office). both are not well liked by citizens, both are fighting to consolidate their potus position in an election year, both have staff that don't trust one another, both are corrupt, both are naive in foreign policies, both hate their spouses(selina is separated from hers), both are very selfish and egotistical, both looks down on everyone in private, both thinks highly of themselves etc...a lot of similarities mehn. so you can understand why comparing both cannot be avoided or ignored. as to why Veep's mood and approach differs from house of card's(they share similar theme, politics) here goes: Veep is a satire in the sense it doesn't take itself serious at all. the politics are real, the domestic and foreign policies getting treated in the show are completely feasible but the show makes fun of all the stuffiness by cleverly infusing highbrow humor amidst all the drama. someone can get shot and/or killed on veep but with a humorous spin. |
bykebyke:I get your point but at the end of the day, they are both POTUS fighting to stay on the throne in an election year. Veep may be a comedy but make so mistakes. the politics are too real. it just pokes fun at it...that's why it's a political satire. the major difference between the 2 is that whilst house of cards takes itself too serious, Veep doesn't. |
someone recommended "hustle" yesterday....nice. ![]() The first episode is okay, let's see how the rest of the series will pan out. ![]() |
bykebyke:forget the theme and genre, the titular characters are the issue here. selina is more effective in her incompetent and naive way(plus she's got a certain female charm) than frank in his stuffy pretentious ways. |
Bobbybube:1. The leftovers: the general atmosphere of this series is downright depressing. the intricate plot throws more question than answers. brilliant writing, excellent acting and directing coupled with some of the best music scores in television makes this series an addictive mind numbling psycho-thriller 2. penny dreadful: this series got everything. it's got vampires, witches, werewolves, gouls, demons, frankenstein monster..Jekyll & Hyde etal. it's horror but somehow feels different from all the others...it's got style. a masterpiece. 3.Better call saul: prequel to Breaking bad....not quite as gritty, but has potential. 4.Wentworth: female prison can be a very dangerous place, such that even the prison guards are not safe. this dark female prison drama continues to outperform oitnb in ratings every year. 5.Veep: selina myers is the shi. this political satire got style in droves. the best political satire to ever come out of america since "the Newsroom" & "westwing". 6. peaky blinders: irish Gangsters erking out life in the united kingdom after the first word war. it's a profound slow burner but very dark. 7. person of interest: started like a procedural then matured into a full brown thriller. well worth your time. 8. last ship: season 1 is pretty good, season 2 is better. 9. castle: Meh. don't like it...boring. I don't really feel the chemistry between the 2 titular characters. just replace castle with "Mentalist" abeg. Patrick jane & agent lisbon have more chemistry in a single season than castle and that cop(forgotten her name) in all of castle season combine. 10. rake: hmmm...haven't seen it yet. australian right? |
Veep season 5 in fu¢king hilarious! uppity Frank Underwood has nothing on selina Myers. that woman is something else. I see another emmys for Dreyfus this year. ![]() |
lymelyte:Not yet....not till 26 of this month. |

kay9:the point I was trying to pass across is that japs were tactically superior. they were willing to do the unexpected, the outrageous even tho they don't have a lot of men and weapons. they target american warships with their suicide flyers(kamikaze) and were successful on many occasions. in ramsey's case, having many men gave him a lot of options and a severe advantage. if he chose to kill half of his men to actualize his objectives, then so be it. there are no rules in war. |
if this match ends like this, england will play Portugal in the round of 16. |
mehn this match is hot! Hungary have just mashed the goal post! |
kenturkish:that's a very good tactics o. very devious! Captain Flint did the same but in limited capacity in Black sails season 3 finale. go and read "acts of war". a good war tactician or general is one who is willing to do the outrageous and the unexpected. in war there is no fair play, no cheat. during world war 2, the Japs nearly crippled the united state's navy by sacrificing a lot of their air force. if not for the tie breaking atomic bomb, japs could have possibly invaded the west coast of the united states. |
I vote Lanicky cc: NLJega |
going back to the classics.."twilight zone" ![]() |

the 4th season of "Parenthood" is really good. An easy 8 on the scale of 10 ![]() |
what da hell happened to oitnb? oh how I miss those pornstache days, the "top dog" prison days when everyone fears & respect you irrespective of your race or theirs. when villains were badass as well as ruthless, when litchfield had a female warden who doesn't give a fu¢k, nakked shower scenes, sex scenes that didn't make one want to puke(sorry poussey), when guards treat every prisoner the same unless you were part of the kitchen crew, when litchfield was a federal prison instead of just another capitalism failure..I could go on and on.. alas those days may have gone forever. oitnb has transitioned from an accurate if somewhat comical depiction of female prison life comedy drama to a soap opera with disjointed storylines and blurred perspective. no discernible top dog, the white inmates are given preferential treatment, all the inmates are pussiies(all talk and no action), no real danger lurking in the corners. the prison warden mr caputo is a pushover with no di¢k, all the prison guards are white as well as racist, Judy King never got shanked or beaten up for dissing the blacks in a puppet show(these particularly pissed me off), etc... that's why "Wentworth" continues to set the pace with it's consistency. if you wanna know just how dangerous life in female prison can be like(even in minimum security prison), then don't miss an episode of the Australian dark prison drama series "Wentworth". the motto: you gotta be strong & smart to stay alive...and even so it's not a guarantee. |
yeah that's a fine point....good one Poussey(fu¢kin dumb name btw), good one ![]()

watched the first episode(and my last) of "Feed the beast" last night....poor poor poor ![]() |
JigsawKillah:I hope so.. have you seen "Kingdom"? if you're into mix martial arts, you would love this series. Another one is "The red road". this show has a lot of similarities with Banshee in the sense that both have indians, cops, renegade indians, erring teens and stubborn women. the red road doesn't have a lot of actions scenes but it's sober mood is very compelling. *edit* and don't forget to check out "Cleverman" as well! |
just seen got s06e09 and I was wowed(still am). awesome episode. It's so satisfying seeing that horror incarnate Ramsey die. hehehe ![]() |
bykebyke:exactly! all that matters is that you get it now. cheers ![]() |
JigsawKillah:Preacher has the capacity to become a cult classic if the writers continue to shun out good stuff. ![]() |
Bekas:guy you get am. that episode is electrifying I swear! I had to watch it 2 times to take it all in. |
bykebyke:you see? I inadvertently made a racist comment and I didn't even know it! ![]() |
bykebyke:that's not even the same thing, you're way off base. a white man calling you a baboon clearly pins him as racist cos it's not a fact. that's an insult in all ramification for you're clearly human. now google "group of orients(Mongoloids)", select image...what you'd see is a group of chinese looking people with striking resemblance anatomically(now I'm saying racist things without meaning to! ), marked by slitted eyes, round faces, small stature and yellow complexioned. a person of a different race would obviously remark that orients look alike on seeing those images. that's saying racist things without being a racist. comprende? |
bykebyke:actually there's a difference. a non racist can say racist things without meaning to. for example a white person can honestly express his opinion that all orients do look alike. yeah, the comment does sound racist and unbelievably ignorant(esp to a far east asian) but you gotta admit that in some capacity, it's somewhat true. ![]() |
naijababe:wow! that's what I do every monday morning. I wake up, I visit reddit, read up on the spoilers posted by members then I download and watch the episode later in the day(sometimes when the spoiler is especially tantalizing I download and watch it on the spot!). in fact I do this on every show I follow on weekly basis. it helps me to access every episode even before I see em...know what's poor and what's good....that's the life. so when I hear other people complain about spoilers I roll my eyes. what's the fuss? the spoiler poster is only trying to help! ![]() |
WW2 planes...chai! |
KINGOFJAPAN:I don't understand folk's hatred for spoilers. I love spoilers....saves me from having to waste my time on a series or it can encourage me to give the series another shot. I liked her analysis...she painted such nice pictures, now I'm highly motivated to see oitnb through. it's always nice to have something to look forward to.. ![]() |
Kingdom been hearing some good shiit about this series....let's see how it goes. |
naijababe:well the first 3 episodes were a bore to me. too much drama...it's becoming soapish, exactly what I dread in series. |
