Business / Oceanic's Record N400bn Loan Loss Provision: Any Hope For That Bank? by breez(m): 8:39pm On Dec 11, 2009
The loss declared by Oceanic Bank Plc in its interim report for the period ended September 30, 2009 today was significant but fell short in providing clarity on its true state of affairs.

The bank posted a decline of 58.29% decline in gross revenue to close at N46.830 billion compared with N112.265 billion of the previous year. After the loan loss provision of N 315.11 billion, the Bank reported Loss Before Tax and After the loan loss provision of N400.901 billion as against N36.524 billion profit of the previous year, and the Net Loss recorded closed at N286.036 billion after factoring in the N115 billion tax credit granted the bank compared with N29.082 billion profit of the previous year. The management of the bank has attributed the decline in the gross earnings to the suspension of interest of N93.9 billion on the various non-performing loans.

Though the bank’s fixed assets grew by 43.60%, the Net Assets of the bank at the close of the quarter closed in the negative of N69.206 billion as against N254.406 billion of the previous comparable period. The alarming loan loss provision has again lent credence to proshare loan loss alert in the bank banking sector. The loan loss provision has been the highest so far recorded in the sector; this was besides the N42 billion loan loss provisions the bank provided for in its 2008 full year audited report.

Analysts are unsatisfied with the justification provided by the bank – suspension of interest of N93.9bn (33% of the net loss reported) – without any explanation on the thrust of the declining state of the bank, pre and post the intervention.

A cursory look at the data released indicates very worrying signs for the bank:

1. a 58% decline in Gross Revenues – this indicates that there bank is unable to generate new businesses or this reflects its fair and true business size (after discounting items for which adjustments are being made to correct the overstatement thereof);

2. A drop in all indices across the board – a direct result of the debacle they are locked in.

The result clearly contradicts the bank’s recent announcement of a growth on its performance parameters. This is a worrisome result by all measure.

We await a detailed breakdown of the results to enable us determine the going concern status of the bank; in the absence of a forecast report from the bank.

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / Re: Liverpool F.C Fans Zone - the Mighty Reds ! by breez(m): 12:08am On Apr 15, 2009
The match was epic to say  the least. The meyerside reds displayed the quality that made one of theirs years back. It's something about "never walking alone". To me, team work couldn't sound better! Who would believe Gerrard was on the bench and Torres did not finish a game with such a rescilient scoreline!

A chance at the semi for Liverpool was completely ruled out before the game BUT, after 85mins of play, it was 50-50!

It's painful not to be in the semi's, but surely, their performance was heroic.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / Re: Arsenal (1) Vs Liverpool (1) Sunday 21st December by breez(m): 9:13pm On Dec 20, 2008
My weight is behind Liverpool wink. I sincerely hope they get the much needed 3 points to guaratee another week at the top of the table grin. A draw would be thin ice, and a loss would be too much of a motivation for the blues. angry
Politics / Re: Dora Nkem Akunyili (OFR) As The New Information Minister by breez(m): 8:50pm On Dec 20, 2008
I am not sure of what to think about this appointment. But it sure does give me a 'running stomach'! sad Maybe I am a little attached to the idea of a Dora in NAFDAC. Even though it may not come as I may have loved it, I somehow feel Nigeria should be allowed to survive as a people.

We may have depended so much on Prof. Dora before now but I think this change will help us appreciate the fact that we may not always have Dora, and a changed Nigeria is the responsibility of everyone. Her exit from NAFDAC, may well show if Nigeria is as matured enough for change as NAFDAC under Dora has demonstrated.

Religion / Re: Lovemaking After Traditional Wedding Only: Is This Fornication? by breez(m): 11:33pm On Jan 17, 2008
My friend, if na so the thing de do you giz-giz-giz, u 4 plan everything together na. Both engagement and white wedding, one a day after the other. why the wide gap for the devil to dance in between?

Not ruling out the possibility that some factors may be responsible for the gap anyway, but whatever it is, the time lag must be worth the waiting altogether. undecided

Romance / Re: My Fiancee Earns More Than Me And It's Making My Life Miserable by breez(m): 4:42pm On May 25, 2007
Come on my friend, what's the big deal?!!! Your bank account does not make you any more or less the man that you are. Sincerely I think there is nothing to worry about, afterall, it may not always be so.

And calling off the relationship on that ground would be very unfair. What if you were married before she started earning so much? Would you then file for a divorce 'cos her take-home is now fatter? Of course not! Rather if there were chalenges prior to that time, your happiness will know no bounds, and a divorce would be the last thing on your mind.

There are many wives earning more than their husbands but if you are not told, you can't know.If her pay is the only issue, go ahead. Except there is something you have not disclosed sha. undecided

We had just finished fitting stuff in my sitting room. It felt good to us that our proposed home was begining to take the shape of a real couple's. We sat beside each other on the rug after all the work; it just happened. I could'nt get enough of it that day.

Family / Re: Having A Joint Account With Your Spouse? by breez(m): 5:24pm On Jan 22, 2007
i believe there should be a sort of family purse, yes there could be a joint account in that regard. But who says we cannot hav individual purses too?

i see separate accounts as a bit individualistic, and joint, too enthusiastic. undecided
Religion / Re: Pre-Marital Sex Is Not Fornication by breez(m): 5:10pm On Jan 22, 2007
In your analysis Trini_girl u wrote: 'My point is, if you are committed to be married to someone, then having sex with that person does not mean you are a fornicator.'

I think the only way to define this commitment is for the man and the woman to sign the dotted lines and hav a certificate to show for their seriousness.

Anything outside this remains a child's play, fun, , that is all there is to it.

Many girls are raising bastards becos they believed in the fantasies outside marriage commitment.

This is not to say that there are no sincere guys (and girls), there are still many of them, but certain principles cannot be compromised. If there is a compromise, then it is at the individual's own risk.

God wants you 100% protected frm all heartbreaks, He wants to preserve the dignity of your person before and after marriage, hence His Law.

Career / Re: How Healthy Is Office Romance? by breez(m): 6:20pm On Jan 18, 2007
I would say nothing is wrong depending on both your rank, designation, department etc.

Some departments are very sensitive (e.g Finance and admin) and people would do anyhting to  hav what they want (even if it puts others into wahala)

Your position in the company could also make it unadvisable to have such romance. The company or boss may begin to see it as unsafe giving you classified or priviledged info cos of the  attendant 'blur in sense of judgement' that comes with such relationships etc. grin

By and large, if it is an 'inter branch' thing (i mean both of you do not belong to a branch of the same company) it is relatively safer.
Jolly ride cool
Family / Re: Do Wives Deserve A Slap Or Two To Caution Them? by breez(m): 5:19pm On Jan 18, 2007
Normally a couple will not always see things the same way, there would be arguments. That is basic! undecided

Ideally, a man should  not go physical, he should luv; wink

Ideally, a woman should be respectful and submissive not a 'nagster'; angry

Ideally, there should be open and mature communication  to iron out differences.

THAT's IDEALLY!

When one of these ideals is compromised, there is bound to be ' a break down of order' in the house. cool
Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Unusual Number(+27832225711) by breez(m): 3:56pm On Oct 05, 2006
i had a similar experience as y'al, infact i got the message 5 times and was al over my diaries looking for international codes that match '+278' or +'27'.
one of the messages read subscription update 009 bla bla bla, after i put my sim into a more 'dynamic' phone. but shortly after the last message arrived, the 'vmobile' standby display on my phone changed to 'celtel'. so then, i felt it was all about that.
now i wonder if all that replied this topic are on the 0802 network undecided

Career / Re: What Happens, If U Are Rejected After An Interview? by breez(m): 3:11pm On May 27, 2006
its really important to keep your expectations "at par" whenever you go in for an interview. always remember that no matter how good you are, there are always possibilities of better people hoping for the same job as you. this is not to say however that you'd be perimistic. just be cool, calm and maintian tht quite confidence in your own abilities. Really, there is alway a lot to learn and gain from an interview, appart from securing the job.

persoanlly i have learnt to 'maintain". i didn't succeed in some of my interviews, but the experience helped my to be at my best when "the big one came". guess what, , i got the job!

Don't feel to bad, there are others on the way. make sure your experience with virgin leaves a better you, poised for another chance, somewhere else, another day. all the best! smiley
Business / Re: ATM in Nigeria by breez(m): 11:38am On May 25, 2006
ATM technology use is developing in naija certainly. But i have had a bad experience with those machines sha so far, especially on those days i needed them most. a good example is last christmas when i chose not withdraw at my bank cos of the risk of traveling with cash. i was all over town looking for a functional machine, but my efforts met with, "out of order, pls try later", , "temporarily unavailable", , "out of use" etc. banks that were kind enough to station personel at the locations will tell you," cash just finished, ", or." yet to be loaded".

by and large i would advice anyone who would not be able to do without this technology to consider having both interswitch and quickcash cards just in case one dissapoints, the other may not. i saw the wisdom of this last christmas, though that will mean having bank accounts with 2 banks on the different platforms. e.g zenith(interswitch) and etb(quickcash) smiley
