THE Northern Elders Forum has said the north was in the process of rebuilding itself and was not prepared to play second fiddle in a nation where it clearly enjoys numerical strength.


Director of Publicity and Advocacy of the NEF, Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, said this while delivering a keynote address at the maiden Maitama Sule Lecture Series organized by the students’ wing of the Coalition of Northern Groups, held at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, on Saturday.


He said, “We will lead Nigeria the way we have led Nigeria before whether we are President or Vice President, we will lead Nigeria. We have the majority of the votes and democracy says vote whom you want.


“Why should we accept a second class position when we know we can buy a form and contest for first class and we will win?


“Why does anybody need to threaten us and intimidate us? We will get that power but be humble because power comes from God. We inherited leadership and being honest is not being stupid.

“Whether the North holds power in 2023 or not anybody who wants to break up in this country will say so, they are just looking for excuses. This is democracy. The story of Jesu Oyingbo is one of those stories that alot of Nigerians can not forget easily.


Olufunmilayo Immanuel Odumosu was a middle aged Man back then in the 1950's, he was popularly known as Jesu Oyingbo in Lagos. He declare himself as the Jesus Christ that Christian's have been waiting for. Alot of people did not believe this claim and saw it as blasphemous, there were also some people that actually believed him totally. Those believers left their homes and families, they packed their properties and moved to the estate of the self acclaimed Jesus.

Back then in 1959, Pastor Immanuel claimed to be Jesus Christ who came to lead his people out of darkness and bring them into the light. He declared that he was Jesus Christ whose second coming was foretold in the Bible. He also said that anybody that believed in him will have joy, he claimed to be the missing part of the trinity and that he came to prepare them for judgment.


The craziest part about this declaration is the fact that people actually believed him, alot of people rushed to his church for miracles. The self acclaimed Jesus had a church called Universal College of Regeneration located in Lagos State.



Somethings were quite different in the way this self acclaimed Jesus lived his own life, even his mode of worship was totally different. Jesus Oyingbo made up his own way of worship that was absolutely strange. The self acclaimed Jesus had a communal enclave where he had over 700 followers, his followers all lived in that place with different kinds of workshops.


The place had some strange sculptures that made people assumed there was more to his church. There were statues of Mermaids, lions, and even Jesus Christ in some of his buildings.


Apart from this, the self acclaimed Jesus used to baptise the new members of his Church with 9 strokes of cane instead of water. After the baptism, the new members will then be allowed to stay in the estate with the other disciples.


People also said alot of unlawful and sinful activities took place in his church during that time. There was also a time he gave the Wife of one of his Church members to another Individual, he did this in other to punish the Man for treating his Wife badly.


Jesus Oyingbo also had over 30 Wives and he had over 80 children, some of the kids were born by his church Member's wives. Even though he claimed to be Jesus Christ, not all his kids believed he was the real Jesus.

Jesu Oyingbo was wealthy when he was alive, people claimed he acquired his wealth by extorting his followers of their money. He was a able to deceive and to convince alot of people to foow his ways.

In the year 1988, Jesus of Oyingbo died in a hospital while he was 73 years old. He died just like every mortal, he did not resurrect like the Jesus we all my. His church and all his followers were all confused because they didn't expect Jesus to actually die during his second coming, some even thought that he would rise on the 3rd day.




Even til today the self acclaimed Jesus is still dead, he did not resurrect like they all assumed. Jesus Oyingbo did not write any will before he died, this caused alot of issues amongst his wives, kids and even his followers. It was when his first son Carried the issue to court that they found out evil things committed in the estate.

The court was able to send out all the followers living in the estate, now the place is just a shadow of itself.

Recently there has been this argument about the origin of the kingdom of OPOBO in present day Rivers state.

The truth is that, after the Biafran civil war, alot of cities were cut off from the south east to form present day south south.

King JAJA of Opobo the founder of Opobo kingdom was an Igbo man from Imo state. Anyone arguing against this should go do his research.

If king JAJA was an Igbo man, his descendants can not and never be Ijaw.

Any Ijaw in Obopo kingdom is simply a migrant.

A Corps Member, Ahmad Abubakar FC/20B/1340 has donated a digital library to the National Youth Service Corps as his personal Community Development Service (CDS) Project.

Speaking during the commissioning of the project today at the NYSC National Directorate Headquarters, Abuja, Abubakar said the manual system of library operations was getting obsolete globally, hence, the need for a digitalized method of storing information.

He said he was inspired to initiate the e-library project in order to help expand the NYSC library and enhance its rich resources to Corps Members, NYSC staff members and other stakeholders.

“As the manual system of library operations is getting obsolete globally and no more effective as it should be, l decided to convert the book materials into digital formats through proper digitization procedures for easy access.

The computerization of the library was considered necessary to enable free access to the library materials, including some NYSC publications that were also digitized in order to preserve them as reference materials.

The project donor said he sourced for sponsors and was able to “set up the digital library with items such as a server, computer work stations, printers, professional book scanners and other items”.

He thanked the NYSC for providing a conducive environment for him to unleash his potentials including the project sponsors for assistance.

NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim described Abubakar as a goal-getter, honest and dedicated Corps Member.

He thanked him for initiating and executing the laudable project, promising that it will be put to judicious use.

“I want to urge other Corps Members to emulate Corps Member Abubakar and provide laudable projects that would leave good memories after their service year”, he said.

Candido Da Rocha was born in 1860 in Brazil and was the son of Joan Esan Da Rocha.

After getting back his freedom, Esan returned to Nigeria in 1871 when most of the freed slaves in Brazil trailed their roots back to the Yoruba tribe Ilesha.

Esan started a business empire when he came back to Nigeria. The report has it that he bought two houses in Lagos – the popular Water house and one other.

The Torch Bearers or Old Brazilian Colony confirmed that Esan was a very rich merchant.

Candido Da Rocha, who was born in Brazil spoke just two languages (Portuguese and Ilesha).

When Candido Da Rocha returned to Nigeria, he attended CMS Grammer School with some popular Nigerians like Olayinka Herbert Samuel Heelas Badmus Macaulay, who was a Nigerian nationalist, politician, surveyor, engineer, architect, journalist, and singer and is called by many Nigerians as the founder of Nigerian nationalism.

After the demise of Senior Da Rocha on December 31, 1891, Candido continued the administration of his father’s estates. This was in 1893 at the age of 25.
