CAN's inclination towards materialism is making the religious body derail and loose relevance. Also being petty and reading sentiments into political issues without historical facts shows how they intend to mislead and misinform gullible youths.

Politics / Re: I Will Sell NNPC To Wealthy Nigerians If Elected- Atiku by briefness: 8:48pm On Feb 20, 2019
How is it that some Nigerians cannot glaringly see that we can not afford to pay the bills of the crop of politicians in PDP? It just cannot be PDP. Who will NNPC be sold to? Atiku's friends? No wonder he made a lot of new friends including those that vowed not to forgive him. DPR, NPDC, NGC and all NNPC SBU's will be sold as well. If the owners of NNPC tells us that crude oil production is at 50,000 barrels for instance, that is what we get paid.

The build up to Election 2019 has shown that the elites control a section of the masses. They sway our emotions and influences greatly how we think. Even initiatives for the masses are regarded as vote buying. How could they have sold this to us so soon to have forgotten the past and we now want to atikulate? The elites sure understand us very well and knows the right buttons to press and at the right time. The very reason we are willing and ready to hand back the treasury to them and we are also doing that happily as well.

Politics / Presidential Election: The Choice Before Nigerians by briefness: 9:33pm On Feb 17, 2019
No doubt, the hatred for President Buhari has driven a lot of people nuts and are eager to either vote against him or vote him out. President Buhari has also not performed to expectation. Everything he does is viewed with suspicion. Nothing he has done or will do can be good. Some heroes have been stained in the fight against corruption.

For these and many other reasons, people are ready to mortgage the future. In their fuming rage, they are ready to once again empower those who will run the country to profit themselves. It is clearly seen that the PDP ship is overloaded with men of greed that have enriched and expanded business empires after participating in government. No one really cares about the source of wealth. If Dasuki were out today and employed people, he will be referred to as a successful businessman and an entrepreneur.

We have been made to believe that it can be only their candidate that can challenge the incumbent and we swallowed it. How could PDP suddenly become the solution to our problems? People that are sincere sure knows what it takes to build a nation. The incumbent government did make mistakes and could have done somethings better. They have achieved some results and made positive impacts. PDP is not the alternative.

Since the decision after VAR if final, we then live with it.

Obasanjo will go to any length to justify his action. To him, he is the most intelligent Nigerian. The more he tries to justify his decision for Atiku, the less intelligence he displays. Perhaps he wants to become Atiku's best friend so that Atiku can enrich him as he promised.

I cannot stand Obasanjo and other Atiku friends buying NNPC. In Orubebe's voice, 'we will not take it'.

You forgave Atiku because of personal interest. Atiku promised to enrich his friends and if you are not his friend, then you will be left out. Hence, you quickly became a lover of Atiku maybe to buy NNPC.

You tested your popularity by attempting to lead a coalition. It failed woefully. In desperation and personal interest, you joined and started promoting the party and people you repeatedly warned Nigerians against.

After 2 years and Nigeria is worse off under Atiku, you will commence letter writing to exonerate yourself. Nigerians are wiser.

Politics / Re: Onnoghen Saga: :falana Blows Hot, Says Ex CJN Shot Himself In The Leg by briefness: 9:42pm On Jan 27, 2019
We are gradually inching towards the root cause of this saga. NJC would have resisted the indefinite postponement and taken a guided decision. after the postponement, Nigerians would have asked questions and put the judiciary under pressure to take appropriate action against their own. How is it that a senior judicial officer declare far less than what he has, admitted that he forgot to declare, NJC did not bother to convene an emergency meeting to take appropriate action and still expect the institution to be respected? The judicial officers must ensure the uphold the principle of Lady Justice (the symbol of Law) even when dealing with one of their own. This is the only way they can build integrity.

There is no other place to take corrupt or accused judicial officers to except the court which will be presided over by colleagues. They must maintain equity fairness and justice.

Femi Falana(SAN) has said the Code of Conduct Tribunal’s order relied on by President Muhammadu Buhari to suspend the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen, is suspect.

Justice Tanko Muhammad has been sworn in by the president as the Ag. CJN following charges of false assets declaration filed against Onnoghen.
According to Falana, the exparte application relied on was filed on January 9 while the motion on notice of the substantive suit filed on January 11 with the name of the lawyer that argued the exparte motion not stated in the order.

He also suggested that Onnoghen might have contributed to his own downfall by postponing indefinitely the meeting of the National Judicial Council, which could have deliberated on the matter and take an informed position.
The Senior Advocate stated this in a statement made available to PUNCH on Saturday in Abuja.
Falana recalled he had tried to intervene in the matter by calling on the Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami SAN to withdraw the charge of false declaration of assets filed against the suspended CJN.

The statement read, “The call was without prejudice to the merit of the serious allegations levelled against the Chief Justice. In line with decided judicial authorities, I had wanted the National Judicial Council to investigate the allegations. Unfortunately, the 88th statutory meeting of the National Judicial Council scheduled to hold on January 15, 2019, which could have deliberated on the matter and taken an informed position was postponed indefinitely on the directive of the embattled Chief Justice.
“As the battle shifted to the courts, both the Judiciary and the Executive were shopping for court orders from the Federal High Court, the National Industrial Court, the Code of Conduct Tribunal and the Court of Appeal. In the process, settled principles of law were sacrificed for the exigency of the moment.”

Stating that the ex parte order was procured in an act of brazen impunity by the Executive, Falana urged the president to respect all orders of the court earlier obtained which restrained the Federal Government from removing the CJN.

“It is unfortunate that the Bar and the Bench have played into the hands of the sponsors of incipient fascism in the country. For reasons best known to them.”
Therefore, the National Judicial Council should convene and constitute a committee to investigate the allegations leveled against the Chief Justice and make appropriate recommendation to the relevant authorities.

Was Onnoghen a dictator when he prevented a scheduled NJC meeting from holding apparently because he felt an unfavourable decision would have been taken against him. If he forgot to declare assets much more than what he remembered to declare and refused to step aside for investigation to be done and also postponed NJC meeting indefinitely and no one seems to care, then something is wrong with us as a people.

The judiciary actually failed to help itself by allowing the CJN to postpone the NJC scheduled meeting which may have taken a position to guide the situation. Why was there quiet from all when the NJC failed to sit for no reason and there was no intervention from any quota? The judiciary must learn to tackle issues that affect them from within in order not to subject the institution to ridicule.

deomelo:

The only way to clean the judiciary or handle the CJ issue is to allow the CJ as the head of the NJC to investigate himself and recommend his own suspension and dismissal to the president for immediate dismissal.

Meaning we should let armed robbers be their own lawyer, prosecutor, and judge at the same time.

This is how rettarded the CJ issue is?

Just imagine, the CJ and the head of the NJC is on trial for corruption.

The head of the NBA is on trial for corruption

There are countless judges on trial for corruption

So where is the democracy we keep talking about? The one that sends the mobile phone thief to prison for years and let crooked and corrupt public officials walk away free with their stole millions and billions.

This is the fault of the judiciary because they've been getting away with corrupt judgments and financial inducements from corrupt public officials for decades, but they didn't see this coming and even after the whole thing broke, they should have suspended the CJ or at least plead with him to step down, but they deployed the same old crooked and corrupt tactics where they commandeered their corrupt friend in different courts to issue endless injunctions, delays and frivolous jurisdiction nonsense.

They need to clean house, seriously.

On point.

A corrupt judiciary is a threat to the very existence of any nation.

Moreso if the judiciary is perceived to be shielding itself and preventing due process. The judiciary should always act swiftly whenever the situation demands and clear the air on impunity within. If there was pressure from within to hold the NJC meeting, the situation probably would have been better guided.
Politics / Ridiculing Of The Judiciary by briefness: 11:49pm On Jan 26, 2019
The judiciary the say, is the last hope for the common man. It remains a unique arm of government and requires the highest qualification as compared to other arms of government. This should have given much credence as it will be assumed that any decision to be taken will properly guided. The judiciary is also expected to display a high level of integrity as it has the power of life and death.

The President suspended the CJN and the constitutionality and legality of such a decision is being debated. Also of great concern is the timing of the decision due to the forth coming general elections. At the same time, the integrity of the person of the CJN who is the head of the judiciary is being questioned over the non declaration of some of his assets which he reportedly admitted he forgot to declare. Bare in mind that if what is being reported is true, the assets forgotten to be declared could be much more in value compared to what was declared.

With the weight of the allegation, despite the sentiments, the judiciary should not have allowed itself to be ridiculed. The judiciary should have been courageous enough to take the necessary step, take the right actions to ensure fair hearing and as well prevent interference.

The indefinite postponement of the NJC meeting where the issue would have been raised and perhaps the decision taken in that meeting would have put the situation under control. Did the judiciary ridicule itself by the postponement, moreso without a reason? Could it have been a smart game of survival for the meeting to have been postponed by the Chairman who is the CJN?

For the judiciary, a stitch in time would have saved nine and prevented all this confusion if they had reflected on the very principle of Lady Justice, the symbol of Law. Lawyers and Judges must do everything possible to keep their profession noble to safeguard it from undue interference especially by politicians.

Politics / Amechi's Tape: An In Depth View by briefness: 2:00pm On Jan 06, 2019
Indeed, we are in a political era and a lot will be done to attract attention. However is received has to be reviewed objectively. This also I must admit, will be very difficult depending on political inclination, grudges held and other factors.

First and foremost, the audio recording was in a very relaxed environment with all the laughter and giggling. It was a careless speech. Though not expected from highly placed people as such could be used for different purposes. Such speeches normally contains exaggerations, generalisation and being incoherent.

President does not listen to anybody. This is generalisation. How can this be in the context used when he has been accused severally of not being in charge and being controlled by the ''cabal''. If indeed he is being controlled by the cabal, it means he only listens to them and does their bidding. Embarking on medical trips and taking medications shows he is listening to his doctors. Not listening to anybody when not generalised could also imply firmness and not doing everybody's bidding, which of course is not possible to achieve. A leader should be firm to the extent to which he is sure that he is not making a mistake or the decision being taken is mostly right, favourably and beneficial to majority.

You can write what you want, he doesn't care. The first part should be okay and depicts freedom of expression. People should be able to express themselves to the extent that they do not infringe on another person's right. Not caring part is a bad expression about a leader. We use these expressions regularly without considering its criticality. A leader cares about all his subjects but does not get worried when unrealistic demands are being made in order to focus on realistic issues and deliver good governance.

Does he read? If he reads he will laugh.... Amaechi is not in the best position to tell whether the president reads or not. How many hours does he spend with the president in a day and how many days in a week to know his reading habit? A careless statement if taken out of context but was immediately contradicted with, 'if he reads... ' negating the impression created by the earlier question. A leader reading and tolerating negative comments is a strength but going further to immediately act on those that have some iota of relevance no matter how few goes a long way to build confidence and makes the followers feel empowered. The president failed to sign the amended electoral act. It was either he read it or others read and advised him not to sign and must have listened. Not reading and not listening will be contradictory in this situation.

This country will never change... An average Nigerian's mentality and this is quite popular. However, not expected any highly placed political office holder since the momentum of change has to be driven from that level. Again, careless statement. The country no doubt, has lost a lot of ground over the years and in an objective analysis, it will be extremely difficult to catch up with developing countries bot to talk of developed ones. Definitely not a time to give up hope, but focus and ensure good governance to drive infrastructure. A lot we need to drive infrastructure and industrial growth needs to be imported. It will be increasingly difficult as our currency continues to loose value. The need to maintain good focus to achieve the desired result. The country can change and we have to change it.

In a political era, issues like can be portrayed completely out of context to score political points. I would have bothered more if the recording was done in a serious atmosphere depicting a strategy meeting on how to rescue the nation from a president that does not listen. This obviously was not the case. Hope as well that the audio does not become a sermon.

When we all check ourselves as individuals and how we treat issues that relates to the progress of the country. The truth is not far fetched. Though the leaders are much more responsible and culpable, selfish interests overrides patriotism. Only very few can clearly stand out as exemptions.

Or would you ask those who understand arabic but do not know the meaning of verses like Yaa Sin, Ali Laam meem, etc to skip or not recite them when they get to such verses?
