I love Australia JewelStone: Geez you make me want to visit Berlin, it sounds so exciting unlike Sydney. Europeans certainly have more fun...
You're description of Dusseldorf is spot on cos I had one of my best partying experiences there a couple of years ago when life was simpler pre marriage, kids etc.
Thanks for sharing your experience with us. I was comparing it to my experience here in Sydney, and the reality is that Africans migrating to western countries have similar problems; albeit in varying degrees. Australia is beautiful...it's easy to find well paying jobs and build a good life (in Sydney at least but cost of living is crazy); but it's also one of the most boring places on earth!!! My lifestyle is more suited for western Europe, and the thought of spending the rest of my life in Straya does my head in. But I'm stuck cos my hubby will never want to move away from his family and his career and start life all over in a foreign country
Cheers mate...at least you're having fun in Berlin and I'm so jealous |

Really wonderful experience, kudos Chiggsglover: It went well I wrote stuffs about it We have an online app for phone where we submit our exam, assignment, see all the course and materials, it came very handy when we moved online. Lecturers posted prerecorded videos as some of them weren't used to talking to a laptop. They did the trial n error till they improved. Then for questions and answers, we used Zoom. It's an App for online video conferences. You can do somethings like share your computer screen, mute and unmute, decide to not turn on your camera so they wont see you, I turned off my camera when I wanted to chat during the long meetings.
The Elearning infrastructure really came very handy this period. Nigeria lacks in infrastructure both physical and cloud that's why the school session seized. But spiritually we no lack at all. Still remember when I did my ATS. The exam hard sha. After we wrote the first paper, the next one was in the afternoon, an hour to the next paper. Na so one guy came around and started to skabash he was reasonable in the noise aspect at first till the gbedu entered his body. Theres how someone will be praying in church, it will be giving you ginger. This man started to tremble and the atmosphere was electrified. I just discovered some parts I didnt touch and started using cold water to quench the fire like rolling my chewing gum inside my ears. It was as if the thing was penetrating my skull. That's how I stood up and change it for the dude. He became meek and apologized that he got carried away. I told him to read, that Our God is not a Magician.
Its really a great experience.
The brother became friendly and suggested some places to read. I gave him some places also. Out of the hints, we noticed places we didnt cover, we quickly checked it and studied more. Some questions came from there and we nailed it. In all we Work n pray. |

A typical Nigerian wouldn't have responded to a question asking how much he earns,I respect you more Op, you're a good man. Chiggsglover: €12.45 actually. I dont know how they deduct their taxes, they might even take €20 sometimes. They reasoned that taking tax from me when I worked a day, €99, was pointless. You can see how they reduce inequality. |

Quite a good bargain based on what I've been reading on Ireland threads Chiggsglover: Its expensive Single room is like €550 depending on the gap from the city centre
Double room is the cheapest, from €300 I pay 380 for a beautiful house with central heating, excluding Bills, its about 20min bus to the city centre. |

What an experience, imagine reducing how you wash your clothes Nigerian are noise makers lol with frequent gist of our poor leadership here and comparing to sane country. I'm enjoying the thread Chiggsglover: I really like this new house I moved in, it's full of Nigerians. It is the opposite of my former house where we it was full of Brazilians, chileans and Mexicans. They were nice people but suffered some kind of inferiority complex because they couldn't speak English. They study English for a living actually and keep renewing their application each year. Due to the lack of English, communication problem arose. Whenever there was an issue, they'll run to the landlord or theyll put on the house group chat on WhatsApp. They just find it difficult to come to the person they have issue with to complain so it can be settled. So the issue started escalate just as communication issue leads to divorce in marriages. I had to leave and the next house I found with a lesser price, better interior design and the great thing was that electricity Bills is inclusive. My former house didnt have the Bills inclusive, I now have to be managing the way I turn on the heater, thank God I didn't fall sick o. The heater was connected to the electricity, gas heaters are cheaper, look out for that when you're looking for an apartment outside Nigeria.
I couldn't bake my chicken till its Golden brown just to save on Bills. I reduced the way I washed also, because its like your prepaid meter, once it runs down, the app gives warning. You dont want to live in a house that doesnt have electricity. Also the tap wasn't connected to the heater, imagine washing plate with freezing water, sometimes my hand will freeze and I would have to run upstairs to my room and turn on the heater. I almost got frost bite doing that. It was terrible. Living in the new place with a gas heater system, the house is evenly warm. I dont have to run from the bathroom to the the room and cover up myself so I can stop shivering.
If theres something to learn, Go for a house that has the electricity Bills included in the rent. You dont want to be paying €70 on electricity bills alone, and pay a hefty price for the rent. While I was looking for an apartment, we got to one, I saw a naija guy there, he turned on the heater so high that we started sweating almost as soon as we got in and had to take off my gloves and jackets. I asked him if the bills was inclusive, he said Yes, Say no more.
The only downside to living with Plenty Nigerians is that they make Noise........ This is the other Spectrum compared to living with foreigners, with foreigners, I get more privacy, its quiet, less need to gossip and all. I enjoy the Nigerian songs they play with my speaker, homesickness is kept at bay, lol.
That is my backyard, it's quite bushy and unkempt, but we dont have snakes in Ireland, thanks to Saint Patrick, hehe. No rats here also. |

Lol "if it's unchained is mine" that line got me. So Dem dy run street wellas for dia Chiggsglover: This was how January looks like. The first shot was taken when I decided to walk 40min to school from my former accomodation. It was a wonderful experience. The chilly wind blowing and all.
I used to cycle to school using that beautiful route till my bike was stolen, it wasn't very expensive, I bought a used one for about €60, I looked for a road bike that had better speed and all. My experience with bike was quite nasty. I chained it almost directly in front of my college. The space directly in my college was cramped up, there wasn't any place to lock my bike so I went to the next spot I could find. It wasn't a great lock actually. First experience with the chaining and all and city cycling. That was how it was lifted. The owners carried it.
I was walking across a lawn some weeks after my bike was stolen, and I saw a quite a new Mountain bike in a big football field. Something told me to carry it, but my good boy side won. My neighbor was tired of his bike and wanted to get rid of it, he left it outside unchained and that was how he got rid of it. I asked him about the bike, he told me that whenever the tire of his bike get so bad that it needs replacement or any serious work need to be done, all he does is to leave it outside for someone that is interested to take. Then he goes online and buys another one. That is how they do here, if its unchained its mine. I knew I don enter express road.
The next one was taken last week, summertime sadness |

The only thing that came to my mind was just "wow" Chiggsglover: I wish there was another way, Another route will be to get yourself grounded in coding, apply from Nigeria and get a job. The company will sponsor your Visa and all. I have seen this work in the UK. Not sure from here. This isn't an easy route. Most of this country want you to study at least a yr course to start life. So you should plan your way, you can try to do a diploma which might be cheaper and all.
There is a General study visa thread that's dedicated questions like this. You might get other people opinion which will be of use to you. |

I found this thread today I must thank you op for sharing, you just made me fall in love more with Ireland. One more year to complete my Bsc (Industrial Chemistry) and I will be making the big move for Msc in Ireland. I hope there are opportunities for my line of course. God bless you and stay safe Chiggsglover: The IRISH NOODLES
Not sure if this is the Irish noodles but the fact is that I bought it from a store here, they're all scattered all over Europe I guess. I bought it for say, 0.14cents, that's like 60naira, For each of them. The carton is €5, that's half the price of our own.
The Nigerians in my apartment still spend €10 on the our carton of Indomie that is even smaller than this, some stores sells theirs for €15.They didnt bother to try these out, they just assumed that it wont make sense. What I did was I bought different flavours, cooked them separately and it was Delicious. I like the fact that it's not as Sharp as our indomie. What Nigerian mothers do is to remove one of the seasoning when they're cooking five sachets. Either ways, you have to experiment to find the perfect balance for your taste buds. They either throw away the sachets or use it to cook other food like spag and stew which I find to be funny. I prefer using it for eggs.
Given the Poor safety regulations, the Nigerian indomie isn't very safe, when I was in Nigeria, what is eat Dangote noodles and Oriental noodles, it's kinda scarce, its bountiful in the North where I served, not golden penny. It has lots of spice that you can pick up after you cook it.
This one below has smaller strands compared to the hours and it's cheaper. The one I cooked was just consisting of just Two sachets and it was like I ate three of our small size noodles.
It all boils down to different strokes for different folks. Time to gobble down the chow. |
