ACM10: I'm independent, so I have no political affiliation whatsoever. Neither do I view this event through tribal lens. I'm only trying to be as objective as possible. The Oba's action is disrespectful to the office of the president. He is the Oba of Benin and subject to the power of the presidency. Some protocols needs to be waived in this circumstance. Afterall, did the Portugese give Oba prior notice in the 15th century of their coming? Disrespect is not relative and I fault Oba on this one.

ACM10: I can see that your Oba is no more the custodian of Benin culture, tradition and language. He is now the custodian of madness, and dispenses it at will. But those shyt aint potent on me.

PhysicsQED: The fact that some moderators on this forum would draw attention to a distorted/slanted story by putting it on the front page, after already doing so once before with that "Oba Of Bini Refused GEJ In His Palace" thread, is disappointing.

I know this site is just about revenue and not accuracy, so I won't bother about the ridiculous claim/story itself. I'll just note that you guys already put the same thing up on the front page a day or two ago and this whole issue has been thrashed out before.

In fact, this thread should have been closed by OAMJ or another mod since it is definitely a repeat of an existing thread. But instead it gets on the front page so that more goats can bleat over a non-issue.

Nigerian politics did not start with Jonathan and won't end with him either as future Head of State had actually, drawn from this incident. By acting this way, the Oba only showed his immaturity and lack of diplomacy as a leader and I query is ability to lead his people.

The President was thereafter asked to proceed alone to the inner chambers to see the Oba while others, including the PDP Candidate, Maj-Gen Charles Aihiavbere (rtd), were asked to vacate the palace hall.

chuks49: Corps members posted to Yobe, Kaduna, Kano, Sokoto, Bornu and Bauchi states have asked the National Youth Service Corps to redeploy them from these trouble states.

The corps members, who expressed sadness as they received their call-up letters for the Batch B NYSC service year, said they were confused as they did not know what to do due to the spate of bombings and other forms of insecurity in these states.

Some of the corps members and their families, who expressed their worries on various social network sites including Facebook and Twitter, said they were extremely sad and disappointed when they received their call-up letters, deploying them to trouble states where there is currently curfew, threats of reprisals andcenseless bombings.

Some of the comments on the social network sites read, “We need to arise and stop the government from sentencing us and our loved ones to death. Is our government/NYSCthis heartless or simply inhumane? We seek our immediate redeployment, we want to live in places where wecan work with peace of mind.’’

Our correspondents learnt thatauthorities of the NYSC had also been under pressure from parents and prospective corps members posted to northern states, who had been seeking alternative posting.

Our Correspondent learnt in Abuja on Sunday that the NYSCwas already collaborating with the affected states on how to ensure security for the corps members posted to their states.

But speaking through the Borno State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Inuwa Bwala, in a telephone interview with our correspondent in Abuja on Sunday, the Governor, Alhaji Kashim Shettima, made a casefor corps members to be posted to the state.

He argued that the security situation in the state was beingexaggerated by detractors to further isolate the state from the rest of the country.

He said, “While it is true that we have security challenges, it is a fact that these challenges are not exclusive to Borno State.

“We don’t have on record any attack on visitors neither do we have any record of attacks on the NYSC camp or corps members posted to and currently serving in Borno State.”

Fact remains that that picture of the President sitting next to an empty seat is an insult to the institution of the presidency. Any denials that the Oba did not shun the president, or the fact that he "managed" to see him in his private chambers is not enough to atone for the damage. Already, opponents of the president are having a field day mocking him because of that, yet some fools insist that nothing unusual happened. Can't help, yet again, but imagine this happened to President Obasanjo, or worse still, a president Buhari (who banished the Ooni of Ife and Emir of Kano during his regime).

Let's hope that the president does not take it personal, or else. . .you can't fight government and win.
