Anyone still waiting for standard visiting visa decision since September 2nd?

I have emailed and called UKVI several times. My case has been 'escalated' since October 18 and I got a message from UKVI that my application is undergoing assessment on October 26.

My tired is tired already.

I answer my surname double barrelled so in all it’s 15 letters and my Nigerian account put it all on there so still don’t understand. It’s like an external exam shortening your name which can pose an issue as some quarters will and can argue it’s not the same individual.
At least they issued a cover letter.x.

I don't understand too. I was told the system can't accommodate more than 38 characters.

I will add the ref letter and explain in my cover letter.

Thank you

Maybe request to speak to the manager since this does not sit well with you and for posterity as well.I would understand if they used just your initials then your surname but to shorten it for you is news to me.

Thank you for the advice. I saw the manager but I was told my name was really too long to be contained in the bank statement. The middle-name can't be made an initial too.

I have however been offered a reference letter from the bank to be attached to the bank statement.

Hi there!

I tried obtaining my bank statement online only to find out my middle name was incompletely spelt and missing 3 letters.

I went to the bank today but I was informed that it was because the name was too long and it sometimes happen that way that I shouldn't bother.

Has anyone been in this kind of situation? What is the way out?

I captured on the 16th of June at Abeokuta for change of name due to marriage (Fresh application not renewal). It's 10 weeks now and I haven't received any message for collection. The person that helped me keeps saying it's not ready. How long should a fresh application for change of name due to marriage take? It's the 10th week now after capturing.

It should be ready by now. I think you should go there to check. Fresh passports should take about 6 weeks to be ready. Abeokuta office doesnt call applicants and I dont even think those agents have first hand info.

Hello everyone,

Biometrics date - 11/06/2021

Purpose of traveling - to write a professional examination (NCKEX-RN)

My salary after tax - about 82,000
The total amount I get in a year- 120,000
Amount I spent every.month - 9,000
NB- my mum do give me 10k monthly which amount to the 120,000 I get in a year, I explained that I just got a job in May,2021 and hasn't been paid my first salary,so, I didn't add my monthly salary to the amount I get in a year

Documents submitted
My 6month bank account statement
Employment letter
Letter from employer stating that I am newly employed and has not received my first salary, thus, no payslip and also days have been granted leave from work

Documents from sponsor
NB-My sponsor is my biological sister working and living in the USA
My sponsor's salary 6month bank account
My sponsor's saving 4month bank account
My sponsor's 6month payslip
My sponsor's work ID
My sponsor's ID (Driver's License)

I explained that although I am opting for test to release on the 5th full day in the UK, my travel date is flexible enough to be adjusted to accommodate the 10days quarantine if necessary.
N.B- I do not have savings at all and even used part of the 200k my mum sent to me to pay for the application fee making my closing balance not up to 1.2M but I duely explained that in my cover letter

What worked for me
I made sure i have double of the amount i want to spend on the trip in your bank account (I had to reduce my estimated travel cost from 700k to 550k)
I thorouh explained everything in your application that may cause confusion,
Why I choose UK as the exam center as it can be written in other countries

NOTE- This is first visa on my passport,no travel experience whatsoever. No agent used
Thanks to the information I gathered here and people who always take time to reply and questions here Tutu82, Giselle237 and others

Congratulations on your visa and I hope you cleared your exam.

I have heard of this day 5 test to release but I observed that you stated a total of 8 days for the trip.

Does that mean one can leave the UK before 10 days if day 2,5 and 8 covid tests return normal?

Please, any other person can also chip in

Reduce your budget.
On the form you will not be asked the cost of each aspect of your trip

Ok, I will work on it

You have a purpose then.
Make sure you include all the evidence and categorically state it in the additional info and anywhere else that there’s no other place to take this exam.

Thank you very much. I will apply with all the evidence and hope for the best

So after the 340, you subtract about 170k monthly leaving u with disposable income of 170k.
Ok
It is safest to keep your travel budget within two times your disposable income.
I am not an expert but what is the reason for travel?
How long have you been working in your current employment?
Any travel history?
Do you have documentation for this other part time work to ascertain your claims on it?
Do you have kids?
Do you have any property/investment/stocks etc
These are only a few examples of things your papers tht will be submitted should be ready to explain to the visa officer.

Thanks for taking out time to respond.

I will be traveling for an exam. No where else to do it outside UK.

Yes, I have travel history to more than one country. I never overstayed.

Current employment is about 10 months, I was working previously but took a 5 months break after delivery of my child.

Yes, I have two kids.

May be I should ask a friend to kindly do me a letter covering accommodation and feeding just to be safe? Or will that also pose issues?

Brilliant.
Congrats! seems you are for change of name due to marriage.
Do outline the steps for others to follow as this is a common question here.
Also let us know if you had a previous intl passport and if it was expired at the time of this change or not. Thank yoi

My own passport was for renewal, the process might be a little different for fresh passports.

For example, I didn't need a guarantor's form but that will be important for fresh passports.

During online application, I specifically chose 'change of name due to marriage'

Documents submitted:
Previous passport
NIMC slip reflecting new name
Husband's NIMC slip
Photocopy of husband's passport biodata page.
Marriage certificate
Change of name Affidavit
Newspaper publication.

Every other documents should be the same as for the usual passport application

Is this total 340 or 440?

Sorry, 340. Previous post modified.

So, when they say expenditure should not be more than 2 times disposable income, do they mean everything including tickets cost or just living expense?

Apologies for the many questions
Travel / Re: General UK Visa Enquiries - Part 4 by Brtrue: 11:20am On Aug 23, 2021
giselle237:

To give an opinion whether your budget is reasonable will be impossible without knowing how much you earn monthly and your disposable income after subtraction of monthly expenditure. If you are not declaring any financial expenditure, good.. but remember your bank statement will be looked at... so also hope it is same way on paper.
I have seen declarations as little as 15k before .. so just relay your situation as it is to them as this question is asked on the visa form.
These will then be used as part of assessment of financial credibility. Then after this, try to relate this budget with acct balance.
It is not judged by account balance in the first go.

Thank you for the input.
A total of 340,000 enters my account on a monthly basis.

This is the breakdown:
Salary 120,000
Additional income(part time work) 100,000
Allowance ( transferred by spouse monthly) 120,000

Average monthly expenditure is 170000 except for a month or two (I can explain this).

So in the real sense, I spend about 50,000 out of the 220,000 (salary+extra income) while my spouse contributes majority of household expenses(120,000)

Please, advice
Travel / Re: General UK Visa Enquiries - Part 4 by Brtrue: 10:31am On Aug 23, 2021
Hi all,

I am about to apply for a standard visitor visa for 14 days.

I have an account balance of N1.3m. My spouse takes care of household expenditure so I can say I don't have anyone depending on the funds.

I intend to spend approximately 900k on the trip to include return flight ticket, accommodation, feeding and transport.

Please, will this fly? Or should I look for family/friend to sponsor my accommodation so as to lower the cost?

TIA

I collected my passport today

Date of Capture: July 2nd
Passport issued: August 4th
Passport Office: Abeokuta
Method: DIY.
Passport type: Change of name due to marriage

But there is gist o. Somebody kindly shared NIS Facebook page so I sent a message to find out if my passport was ready.

I did not get a response so I decided to go today since it is already 6 weeks.

Immediately I wrote down my name, I was taken to the office of the assistant comptroller Ogun state command. The man told me my message has caused a ripple effect and he had been receiving calls from everywhere. He even showed me the message on his phone.

The message was a simple message o. I just asked for the person in charge of the page to help me check if my passport was ready o.

He told me to write an apology message. In my mind I was like 'for what na'. I however wrote a thank you message that I already collected my passport and I wasn't aware it was ready.

I have sha collected my passport

How long did it take?

I was told the timeline is not the same with the usual passport renewal.

An info will be highly appreciated.

those talking about what you mentioned have issues where details on their nin and their international passports do not match. so changes have to be made on their nin so it tallies with their passports before their passport application can be processed.

Thank you for the clarification. I appreciate

Please, pardon my naivety! I have been reading about NIN verification and 'name dropping' here. What does this mean? After submission of documents and capturing, is there more to be done before passport collection?

Note, I have my temporary NIMC card (the one with the barcode) and I added a copy of to my application.

Please, educate me.

Abeokuta Passport Office Review.

I applied for change of name on NIS website and chose Abeokuta office for processing.

I went to submit my documents on Wednesday 23rd June.

I signed in at the reception and noted that I wanted to see the front desk. For those of us that are using DIY method, just write 'front desk' when signing in at the reception

At the front desk, I met a polite and helpful officer who arranged my documents and gave me further instructions.

I was told to return on Friday, July 2nd, for capturing. On that day, I arrived 10:12am and returned to the front desk. This same officer took my file and another lady's own to the capturing room.

I was told to stay in the waiting area till my name was called. I finished capturing at 2:08pm.

Fingers crossed, hopefully the passport will return within 6weeks as stipulated.

So I planned to share my experience from Abeokuta with you guys.

Yesterday was my capture date, got there with all the required docs and went straight to the servicom desk.

I was told some docs were missing but not to worry the lady there explained what was missing.

1. There are 2 particular forms that you need to get from them and fill (note: I have heard some places would tell you to get this online if they notice you did DIY)

2. You need 2 printout of the payment page

3. You need to go with your old passport if it's renewal.

The most important stuff is, go to the center to submit your documents days ahead of your interview. This would help you from getting delayed.

Abeokuta is cool thou. Quick service and lots of folks willing to help without expecting cash from you.

Lots of passport are also available for collection, saw lots of passport yesterday.

That's the little I can say. Feel free to ask any questions, if I have any info I would share. Cheers and good luck to all japa plans

Please, was NIN slip required?

Hi all,

I am trying to do a change of name due to marriage on my passport which has expired

But the issue is that the change of name I did on my NIN for more than one month now is yet to reflect so I can't use Ikoyi passport Office.

Who knows if Abeokuta requires NIN for application? Is there any office in the SW that doesn't require NIN.

I appreciate any assistance I can get in this regard.

Thanks.

Good day everyone,

I have a question and I will appreciate your response.

I got a reference letter from my old place of work, and although the letter head paper has the phone number and the PMB of the company, the person that signed did not include his contact details.

My question is if this matters.

TIA.

About the first question,
A number of schools recognise Nigeria as an English speaking country. Some don't.
What he needs to do is to mail each school he has shortlisted, whether he can be regarded as a native English speaker. If that's approved, then he doesn't need IELTS or TOEFL. He can also ask in the mail if he can obtain a letter from his institution that his 100Level was taught in English. That's another option.
Another alternative is that you can visit the ministry of education and request for an official letter that states that his primary education (5yrs) and secondary education (6yrs) in Nigeria was instructed in English. Some schools accept a letter like that for 10 years of English teaching for primary to high school. But if he wants to have a broadband acceptance, let him just write IELTS (Academic). That's the accepted one for students.
I hope this helps
Shalom smiley

Meanwhile, Nairaland suppose get option for voicenote... To make replies easier grin

Your reply was helpful, thanks a lot. We will consider the IELTS in addition to the edu ministry letter for broader coverage

Depends
Some schools don't see Nigeria as an English speaking country while some do

So its best you mail the school..remember to include you got the cert/qualification from Nigeria
