Learning To Confront (2) Sun, 13 Feb 2022 ‘For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness.’ Hebrews 12:11 Healthy confrontation calls for putting the other person’s well-being above your own interests. So how do you confront someone in the right way? By doing these three things: (1) Be sure. There must be a good reason to confront. And it should be a rare event, not an everyday one. You shouldn’t relish the experience. If you do, you need to examine your motives. Are you feeling superior? Are you redirecting your anger towards this person over a completely different issue? Are you lifting yourself up by putting them down? Before confronting someone, you must answer these questions truthfully. (2) Be specific. Vagueness leads to an uncertain outcome, no matter how tactful and gracious your words may be. Make sure you know the reason for the confrontation; then make it clear to the other person. (3) Be sensitive. Every situation is different, so a season of soul-searching and prayer should precede any face-to-face encounter. Otherwise, you’re setting yourself up for problems, and the other person will sense uncertainty and uneasiness in your words. Don’t run that risk. If you haven’t taken the time to pray and get counsel beforehand, don’t jump into the situation on your own. We have all seen this type of Clint Eastwood ‘Go ahead, make my day’ approach. Without fail, it leaves confusion, resentment, and a trail of wounded souls. Make sure your words and tone of voice are attuned to the person you’re dealing with. And try to keep your personal agenda in check; none of this is about you! Pay close attention to timing, choose your words carefully, and, for sure, pray for guidance. Remember, Christ-like confrontation brings the right result every time. |

Learning To Confront (1) Sat, 12 Feb 2022 ‘If you accept correction, you will be honoured.’ Proverbs 13:18 We don’t enjoy confrontation, but it’s impossible to grow without it. Healthy confrontation calls for ‘speaking the truth in love’ (Ephesians 4:15 NIV) to those we value. Just as God confronts each of us in areas where we need to grow, He expects us to do the same for others. Is it easy? No. But here are some guiding principles to help you: (1) Talk to the person, not about them. Healthy confrontation should be direct and, when possible, done in private. It calls for thoughtful communication, delivered firmly but graciously. When people are hurting, handle them with care. (2) Don’t exaggerate or use spiritual hype. Give specific examples. Don’t hide behind words like ‘I believe the Lord has shown me that you’re wrong.’ When Nathan the prophet confronted King David about his sin with Bathsheba, he was specific. And keep your emotions in check; allow enough time between the offence and the confrontation for a prayerful defusing of any anger you feel. (3) Don’t guilt-trip them; help them. Don’t leave somebody in a stew without clear direction on how to improve. That’s not fair, and it’s not constructive. Actually, it can lead to more intense issues and unwanted complications. The best approach is to calmly identify the problem and suggest ways it can be resolved. Your goal isn’t to expose somebody but to show them a better way. (4) Don’t be critical; be compassionate. If you miss everything else, don’t miss this! If you do, you will find yourself condemning rather than confronting. If you’re honest, you will admit that your own road to success has had some potholes—so approach others with love and concern. |

What Are You Called To Do? Fri, 11 Feb 2022 ‘Jesus went around doing good.’ Acts 10:38 Your value in God’s eyes was established at the cross. The Bible says, ‘He who did not spare His own Son, but gave Him up for us all—how will He not also, along with Him, graciously give us all things?’ (Romans 8:32 NIV) Notice the words ‘all things’. We’re all equal in Christ. But when it comes to your career, your value is determined by the complexity of the problem you solve. That’s why we pay a cardiologist more money than a short-order cook. Jesus was a problem solver. People were spiritually hungry so He said, ‘I am the Bread of Life.’ (John 6:35 ESV) They were sick so He ‘went around doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil.’ He discerned what He had, that others needed, and provided it for them. What do you have to offer? What would you attempt to do if you knew it was impossible to fail? You’re not here by accident. God told Jeremiah, ‘Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.’ (Jeremiah 1:5 NIV) Everything God makes is to meet a need and solve a problem. So what are you called and gifted to do? That’s where you’ll find your highest level of joy! Think of your contribution to others as an assignment from God. Paul made tents to support his ministry. So your ministry may be supported by your job. But whether you are in a full-time ministry or a part-time ministry, don’t leave this earth until you have found and fulfilled what God called you to do. |
The Supporting Cast Thu, 10 Feb 2022 ‘As soon as you enter Jerusalem, a man carrying a pitcher of water will meet you.’ Luke 22:10 At Oscar time, Hollywood hands out awards to the best actor, producer, director, editor, costume designer, etc. But the Screen Actors Guild knows there would be no place for big stars and best movies without the supporting cast and the contributions of technical and artistic crews. The Oscars remind us that the brightest lights can only shine because of the lesser lights that go unrecognised. Scripture tells us that God also has a supporting cast; people who are happy to work behind the scenes. They’re the ones who go about their business at home, at work, and at church, serving quietly, gladly, and faithfully. Families are raised, nations are strengthened, businesses prosper, and churches grow, thanks to those who do the little things that make all the difference. The Bible is filled with behind-the-scenes people, like the unnamed ‘man carrying a pitcher of water’ who led Peter and John to the Upper Room for Jesus’ eve-of-crucifixion meeting with His disciples. Or people like ‘James the less’ (Mark 15:40 KJV), a relatively unknown disciple, often overlooked by men—but never by God! Whatever you do, no matter how small, take this promise to heart: ‘God is not unjust to forget your work and labour of love which you have shown towards His name.’ (Hebrews 6:10 NKJV) So, stay faithful. Jesus said, ‘Behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to reward each one as his work deserves.’ (Revelation 22:12 NASB) The truth is that God is planning His own Oscar ceremony—and you can be part of it! |

Praying And Meditating On Scripture Can Improve Your Health Wed, 9 Feb 2022 ‘Pray without ceasing.’ 1 Thessalonians 5:17 Gone are the days when gun-shy theologians bowed to the god of science. Reliable scientists are now affirming how ingenious God is and how His principles hold up under the piercing light of scientific scrutiny. Neuroscientist Andrew Newberg, MD, who studies the relationship between spiritual phenomena and the brain, has demonstrated that we were designed physically and mentally to interact with God through prayer and Scripture. It’s a known fact that there are centres in the human brain that respond positively to prayer, reading and meditating on God’s Word, group worship, hymn singing, and empathy for other people. And Dr Newberg believes that practising a personal religious faith is the most powerful way to maintain a healthy brain. The brain’s frontal lobe is used in focusing attention, rational thinking, and decision-making. It responds to prayer and meditation by helping to reduce stress, strengthen our immune system, enhance memory, and increase our capacity for compassion. It helps us ward off age-related brain deterioration and live longer! Newberg’s research indicates that praying for at least twelve minutes a day slows age-related brain decline. Prayer and reading Scripture also deactivates areas in the brain associated with anger, guilt, anxiety, depression, fear, resentment, and pessimism. It seems that finally twenty-first-century science has joined ancient Scripture in echoing what the psalmist said: ‘Thank You for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvellous.’ (Psalm 139:14 NLT) Can you think of a better reason to ‘let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly’? (Colossians 3:16 KJV) |

For God’s Sake, Control Yourself! Tue, 8 Feb 2022 ‘A person without self-control is like a city with broken-down walls.’ Proverbs 25:28 Trials, disagreeable people, and frustrating circumstances are potentially upsetting—and the bad news is, they’re not going away anytime soon. However, the good news is, they’re not your problem! The fact is, it’s not what happens to you that determines your mood; it’s what happens in you! We imagine life would immediately change for the better if we could alter people and circumstances, but there would be new people and circumstances to deal with, right? Solomon had it right; it’s not about controlling the world on the outside—it’s controlling the world on the inside. Proverbs tells us, ‘A person without self-control is like a city with broken-down walls’; in other words, a city that’s open to attack. The only way to guarantee your security is to forget about controlling people and things, and to focus on maintaining your protective walls. ‘But people and circumstances can make me feel inadequate and vulnerable,’ you say. The Bible tells us that ‘God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.’ (1 Peter 5:5 NRS) In fact, recognising your own inadequacies is step one on the journey to wholeness. Step two is accepting that only God can empower you with self-control (see Philippians 2:13). Step three lies in understanding that self-control doesn’t come from teeth-gritting determination; it’s a product of the Holy Spirit—a fruit of the Spirit (see Galatians 5:22–23). When you submit to the Spirit who lives in you, He will strengthen your walls and empower you to stand strong against the enemy. |
Our trip is Very Short A woman climbed up the bus and sat down beside a man, hitting him with her numerous bags. When the man remained silent, the woman asked him why he did not complain when she hit him with her bags? The man replied with a Smile: "There is no need to be upset about something so insignificant, as our journey together is so short, because I'm getting off at the next stop." This answer disturbed the woman so much , she asked the man to excuse her and thought the words need to be written in gold. Each one of us must understand that our time in this world is so short, that darkening it with useless arguments, jealousy, not forgiving others, discontentment and bad attitudes are a ridiculous waste of time and energy. Did someone break your heart? Stay calm. The trip is too short Did someone betray you, intimidate, oppress, cheat on you, or humiliate you? Relax, Don't be Stressed The trip is too short. Did someone insult you without reason? Stay calm. Ignore it. The trip is too short. Did someone make a comment that you didn't like? Misrepresented before the authority? Said things that are very uncomplimentary about you? Tried to pull and run you down? Stay calm. Ignore. Forgive, keep them in your prayers & love them still for no reason. The trip is too short. Whatever the problems some bring to us, it is a problem only if we think of it, remember that our journey together is too short. No one knows the length of our trip. No one has seen tomorrow. Nobody knows the time of arrival. Our trip together is too short. Let us appreciate friends and family. Keep them in good humor. Respect them. Let us be respectful, kind, loving & forgiving. Because we will be filled with gratitude and joy, after all Our trip together is very short. Share your smiles with everyone....choose your path to be as beautiful as you wish it to be. Our trip is Very Short! A great lesson to all of us. |

How To Lower Your Anxiety Level (2) Mon, 7 Feb 2022 ‘Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.’ Matthew 6:34 When you’re anxious about the future, stop and remind yourself that two of God’s names are ‘Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end.’ (Revelation 22:13 KJV) Where you’re going—God already is! Jesus said, ‘The sheep hear his voice… he goes before them; and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice.’ (John 10:3–4 NKJV) How do sheep get to know the shepherd’s voice? By spending time with him! Notice ‘he goes before them’, which means as long as you’re moving forward, God can direct you. Each time you reach a breaking point, it’s a test: you will either give up or persevere through to victory. Long-distance runners use the expression ‘hitting the wall’. When they’re exhausted and feel like giving up, they know that, if they push through the pain, they will get their second wind and it will carry them over the finish line. Are you taking on responsibilities that aren’t yours? Learn to establish healthy boundaries for your own sake and the sake of those who depend on you. And if you’re not sure what’s appropriate, ask God to show you how much to get involved in the lives of your friends and family. If the burden isn’t yours, set it down. If it’s too heavy, give it to God! Stand on His promise that when you’re in need: ‘He has not turned His back on them, but has listened to their cries for help.’ (Psalm 22:24 NLT) Bottom line: the more you trust God, the more you lower your anxiety level. |
How To Lower Your Anxiety Level (1) Sun, 6 Feb 2022 ‘Cast your cares on the Lord.’ Psalm 55:22 When we’re stressed, the surge of negative emotions can be overwhelming. And unless you unburden your soul before God, it’s easy to make wrong decisions, succumb to wrong impulses, move in the wrong direction, and explode at the wrong people. The psalmist addresses this: ‘Cast your cares on the Lord and He will sustain you.’ The extent to which you consciously lean on God, drawing strength from Him, is the extent to which you will lower your anxiety level. It’s no coincidence that many of the psalms start with David crying out to God for help and end with him rejoicing because he vented his frustrations to the right person—God! The truth is, life is 10 percent what happens to you and 90 percent how you respond to it. Your job, your finances, your marriage, your children, your health, and your future are all sources of anxiety, so you will never be totally free from angst. But you can lower your anxiety level by following Paul’s advice: ‘All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us. For the more we suffer for Christ, the more God will shower us with His comfort through Christ.’ (2 Corinthians 1:3–5 NLT) Often we give our worries to God, only to snatch them back. We don’t like to give over control. But if you pray more, you’ll worry less. |
Worry Less And Trust God More Fri, 4 Feb 2022 ‘The message gets choked out, and they never produce anything.’ Mark 4:19 In the ‘Parable of the Sower’, Jesus said the seed fell into four kinds of soil. Here is one of them: ‘The seeds that fell among the thornbushes are… people who hear the message. But they start worrying about the needs of this life. They are fooled by the desire to get rich and to have all kinds of other things. So the message gets choked out, and they never produce anything.’ (Mark 4:18–19 CEV) Observe what keeps God’s Word from working effectively in your life: (1) Worrying that God won’t take care of you. (2) Thinking if you had more money, a bigger house, a better car, or a more attractive appearance, you would be happier. Here is the question: do you remember when you thought your career, the house you live in, and the financial portfolio you acquire would make all your worries disappear? But it doesn’t work that way, does it? The more ‘things’ you have, the more you have to lose, protect, maintain, and be concerned about. Worrying about material things can ‘choke’ the life out of you! Peace and happiness come from trusting God for what you need; knowing if something is right for you, He will provide it, and if it’s not, He will give you something better. An amazing thing happens when you meditate on God’s promises. Your worries shrink, your mind and attitude are reprogrammed, and you enjoy life more. Jesus said, ‘Seek the Kingdom of God above all else… live righteously, and He will give you everything you need.’ (Matthew 6:33 NLT) So today, put prayer and Bible reading at the top of your to-do list. |
