How To Solve Problems (1) THU, 15 AUG 2019 ‘The people became very discouraged on the way.’ Numbers 21:4 NKJV To reach the Promised Land the Israelites had to ‘go around the land of Edom.’ (Numbers 21:4 NKJV) This made their journey much longer, and ‘the people became very discouraged on the way.’ There’s a lesson here. The best way to escape a problem is to solve it. Between you and your ‘promised land’ you’ll face issues that have to be resolved. Recognising obstacles for what they are—temporary tests of your resolve, ability, and faith in God—won’t do you much good if you don’t know how to handle them. So let’s discuss problem solving. First, recognise that you’ll always have problems. A university student sent this email to his mum at the end of term: ‘Dropped out of uni, coming home tomorrow. Prepare Dad.’ The email he got back said, ‘Dad prepared. Prepare yourself!’ Al Davis, who owned the Oakland Raiders American football team, said: ‘A great leader doesn’t treat problems as special. He treats them as normal. If you’re working, expect problems. If you’re dealing with family, expect problems. If you’re just minding your own business and trying to relax, expect problems. If everything goes according to plan, then be pleasantly surprised. If it doesn’t, and you’ve planned accordingly, you won’t get so frustrated. A problem not anticipated is a problem. A problem anticipated is an opportunity.’ Paul said, ‘To Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory… forever.’ (Ephesians 3:20–21 NKJV) The problem you’re facing today is just an opportunity for God to do for you or through you what you can’t do by yourself. |
When The Family Shatters WED, 14 AUG 2019 ‘Forgive as the Lord forgave you.’ Colossians 3:13 NIV When divorce shatters your family, how can you help your children? First, stop talking about who doesn’t accept them, and surround them with people who do. As a parent your love can go a long way towards compensating for another’s neglect. Remind them that ‘Ken’ and ‘Barbie’ are just dolls, and prepare them to live in the real world. Encourage them to be strong, not self-pitying. As they get older teach them that if they meet someone they have to ‘change’ in order to ‘love’, they haven’t met the right one. When love is right it can live with strengths and weaknesses under the same roof, because ‘love covers over a multitude of sins.’ (1 Peter 4:8 NIV) Real love covers a mistake like an insurance policy covers a driver in an accident. Don’t use your children as weapons to get back at one another. Be sure they understand that you are the one who got divorced, not them. Explain that someone can be unsuited as a companion but still be a good parent. When you take away the blame, you take away the shame and everybody can move forward. Bitterness is a thief, but you don’t have to let it steal your peace, your creativity, your song, or your hope for a better future. Remember, that was then—this is now. There must be a ‘now’ for you and your children, so let it begin today. God’s promise is: ‘I am about to do something new.’ (Isaiah 43:19 NLT) So you can start over and rebuild. |
Always Be Honest TUE, 13 AUG 2019 ‘Don’t lie to each other.’ Colossians 3:9 NLT Try to answer the following questions honestly. Would you lie in order to get yourself out of a jam? Impress someone? Avoid dealing with the consequences of your actions? Well, how did you do? In a major survey in the USA people were asked, ‘What would you be willing to do for $10 million?’ (Are you sitting down?) Twenty-five per cent said they’d be willing to abandon their families. Twenty-three per cent said they’d be willing to become a prostitute for a week. And seven per cent said they’d be willing to murder a stranger. Are you shocked? Maybe you’re thinking that you’d never do that. Well, don’t be so quick—the survey showed that Christians were ‘almost as likely as non-Christians’ to falsify their tax returns, call in sick when they weren’t, cheat on their mates, and tear down someone else’s character to make themselves look better. Think about it—have you done any of those things lately? If you have, read these words carefully and prayerfully: ‘Don’t lie to each other, for you have stripped off your old sinful nature and all its wicked deeds. Put on your new nature, and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like Him.’ (Colossians 3:9–10 NLT) Pay particular attention to the words ‘put on your new nature.’ Honesty is a garment you have to put on every day. So start modelling the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, so help you God. Think the truth. Face the truth. Love the truth. Pursue the truth. Walk in the truth. From today on make up your mind that you’ll always be honest. |
Get Some Rest MON, 12 AUG 2019 ‘Come with Me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.’ Mark 6:31 NIV Why did Jesus take time out to rest? So that when He worked, He’d be at His best. And today He wants you to know that if you don’t take a break, you won’t get one. He wants you to survive the long haul, not just the short sprint. And the first obstacle you need to overcome is guilt. That’s what makes us workaholics. We feel guilty and tell ourselves, ‘There’s just so much to do.’ Jesus handled life differently: ‘“Let’s go off by ourselves to a quiet place and rest awhile.” He said this because there were so many people coming and going that Jesus and His apostles didn’t even have time to eat.” So they left by boat for a quiet place, where they could be alone.’ (Mark 6:31–32 NIV) No time to eat, too many people coming and going, no time to take care of yourself—does that describe your life right now? Some people say, ‘It’s better to burn out than rust out.’ That’s poor advice, plus it’s not Scriptural. You don’t burn out when you’re in the will of God! Jesus said, ‘My yoke is easy and My burden is light.’ (Matthew 11:30 NIV) And the reason He could say that was because people didn’t set His agenda, His heavenly Father did. The psalmist said, ‘He makes me to lie down.’ (Psalm 23:2 NKJV) Wouldn’t you rather go to the park by choice than to the hospital by force? The fact is God won’t send you there, but your own lack of wisdom can. Today Jesus is saying to you, ‘Get some rest,’ and if you’re wise you will do it! |
Let Jesus Give You Your Identity SUN, 11 AUG 2019 ‘Once you had no identity.’ 1 Peter 2:10 NLT Peter the apostle started out as Simon the fisherman. His father owned a fleet of fishing boats, and Peter probably thought that one day he’d end up running the family business when his Dad was gone. But when the Lord has a plan for your life, He will come looking for you! Think about this fascinating interaction between Jesus and His disciples: ‘Then Jesus asked them, “But who do you say I am?” Simon Peter spoke up, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” Jesus told him: “Simon, son of Jonah, you are blessed! You didn’t discover this on your own. It was shown to you by My Father in Heaven. So I will call you Peter, which means ‘a rock’.”’ (Matthew 16:15–18 CEV) There’s an important lesson here. Just as Jesus redefined Simon as Peter ‘the rock’, so too when you discover who Jesus really is, you discover who you are and what He has called you to do for Him. There’s a lot more to life than working forty hours a week for forty years, retiring with a gold watch, getting a pension, and playing with your grandchildren. Just as surely as your DNA differs from every other person’s on the planet, so does your individual destiny. But to understand and fulfil it, ‘you must be born again.’ (John 3:7 NKJV) Jesus said at the grave of Lazarus, ‘He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.’ (John 11:25 NKJV) And the One who raised Lazarus from the dead can bring you to life spiritually, too. Seek Him and He will also tell you who you really are. |

To This You Were Called SAT, 10 AUG 2019 ‘He is your example, and you must follow in His steps.’ 1 Peter 2:21 NLT In the midst of his problems, Job said, ‘He knows the way that I take; when He has tested me, I shall come forth as gold.’ (Job 23:10 NKJV) Gold is hidden deep in the earth, and it takes hours of back-breaking work removing tons of dirt scoop by scoop to bring it to the surface. Likewise, crucifying the flesh is excruciating and time-consuming, and when you follow Jesus, you give Him ‘digging rights’. Satan tries to bury your treasure under memories of past sin and failure, but God keeps on digging because He’s going for the gold! Joni Eareckson Tada became a quadriplegic after a diving accident. She writes: ‘Often during a single day I’ll have to make twenty-six different adjustments in my wheelchair… sometimes I think I’ll drive me and my friends crazy. That’s when I… remember, “To this you were called because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in His steps.” Life’s supposed to be difficult. Jesus said in this world we would have trouble (John 16:33). And that it has been granted—that is…gifted—on behalf of Christ not only to believe in Him, but to suffer for Him. Sometimes I don’t want that gift, but if Jesus learned obedience through the things He suffered, then I can learn from twenty-six different adjustments in my sitting position. God desires intimacy with us—but on His terms—and those terms require us to suffer as His Son suffered. So next time you get hit broadside with a bruising disappointment, God’s asking you to follow in Jesus’ steps.’ |
Keep Plodding And You’ll Succeed FRI, 9 AUG 2019 ‘Dear brothers and sisters, be strong and immovable.’ 1 Corinthians 15:58 NLT When William Carey first began considering the possibility of going to India as a pioneer missionary, his father pointed out that he possessed no academic qualifications for the job. Carey answered, ‘I can plod.’ And he did. When he went to India this was his typical day: he arose at 5:45 a.m. to read a chapter in the Hebrew Bible and have private devotions. At 7:00 a.m. he led family prayers in Bengali, read Persian with a tutor, and a portion of Scripture in Hindustani. After breakfast he translated Sanskrit into English. At 10:00 a.m. he went to college to teach until 2:00 p.m., then translated into Bengali until dinner time. After an early supper, he translated into Sanskrit and studied the Telugu language until he preached to an English congregation at 7:30 p.m. About 9:00 p.m. he returned to translating for two hours, wrote to a friend in England, read a chapter from his Greek New Testament, and then finally went to bed. Carey is credited with doing more than anyone else in taking the message of Christ to India and establishing the church there. And he did it because he was a plodder! Here are two Scriptures plodders stand on: (1) ‘Let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.’ (Galatians 6:9 NKJV) (2) ‘My dear brothers and sisters, be strong and immovable. Always work enthusiastically for the Lord, for you know that nothing you do for the Lord is ever useless.’ (1 Corinthians 15:58 NLT) These Scriptures could be reduced to five words: keep plodding and you’ll succeed. |

Despite The Circumstances, God Is With You THU, 8 AUG 2019 ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you.’ Hebrews 13:5 NKJV Several times in one chapter, Genesis 39, the Bible tells us that the Lord was with Joseph. But that didn’t exempt him from jealousy and betrayal, or the advances of Potiphar’s wife, or her lies that sent him to prison. The Bible says, ‘They bruised his feet with fetters and placed his neck in an iron collar. Until the time came to fulfil his dreams, the Lord tested Joseph’s character.’ (Psalm 105:18–19 NLT) Joseph didn’t know it, but he was in training for reigning. God wanted to see if he would choose trust over lust, and obedience over expedience. It’s in looking back that you realise why one of God’s names is ‘Redeemer’. He can redeem everything you’ve been through—the good, the bad, and the ugly. The lesson Joseph learned is this: God is with you even when there is no evidence He is. He is walking alongside you. He is working with you. He is going ahead of you to rearrange circumstances in your favour. His Word says, ‘“I will never leave you nor forsake you.” So that we may boldly say: “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?”’ (Hebrews 13:5–6 NKJV) But sometimes in the plan of God things get worse before they get better. That’s when you must tighten your grip and lean harder on God: ‘Therefore do not cast away your confidence, which has great reward. For you have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise.’ (Hebrews 10:35–36 NKJV) |
What Is Godliness? WED, 7 AUG 2019 ‘My soul thirsts for God.’ Psalm 42:2 NIV What comes to mind when you think of the word godliness? Religious rules and regulations? Christians who point fingers and say, ‘Thou shalt not’? Little wonder so many people avoid us! Is godliness even possible in an age of motorway drivers and internet shoppers? Or do we need to return to slower and simpler times in order to be godly? The fact is godliness isn’t a culture, it’s an attitude of the heart. It has little to do with how a person looks (although that’s hard for some of us to see beyond), or what they drive or own. It has nothing to do with our personal preferences and the standards some of us would like to impose on others. The Bible says, ‘People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.’ (1 Samuel 16:7 NIV) Godliness is an inside job. And the longer you think about it, the more convinced you become that a truly godly person is one whose heart is sensitive to God, who takes God and His Word seriously, and who desires more of Him. David cried, ‘My soul thirsts for God.’ That’s it! You can be rich or poor, young or old, urban or rural, follower or leader, active or quiet, married or single, Labor or Liberal—none of that matters. What matters is having a longing to know God intimately, to obey Him, and walk with Him. So ask yourself, ‘Do I want to be godly?’ And if you don’t like the answer, get down on your knees and ask God to change your heart and attitude. |
Your God Is Unlimited TUE, 6 AUG 2019 ‘Nothing is too hard for You.’ Jeremiah 32:17 NIV God can solve any problem because He is not bound by human limitations: (1) He is not limited by time. God can do in an instant what would normally take years. ‘He sends His command to the earth; His word runs swiftly.’ (Psalm 147:15 NIV) He can speed the natural process of your healing; He can accelerate your harvest of blessing so you’ll be sowing with one hand and reaping with the other (see Amos 9:13). (2) He is not limited by lack. When the Israelites left Egypt, God instructed them to ask for silver and gold. That’s because the Egyptians owed them 400 years’ back pay with interest! And when they obeyed God, He broke their chains of lack and they got back everything that had been stolen. Whatever Satan has taken from you, God can restore (see Zechariah 9:12). (3) He is not limited by the Enemy. Moses told the Israelites, ‘The Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever.’ (Exodus 14:13 NKJV) How does God deal with Satan’s power? By increasing yours! ‘Greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world.’ (1 John 4:4 KJV) Satan took Jesus to the pinnacle of the temple, but he couldn’t push Him over—and he can’t push you over the edge either. So use God’s Word and stand up to him! (4) He is not limited by anything—but He does not respond to doubt. He made an axe-head float, a donkey talk, and a corpse come back to life after four days, so you don’t have a problem He can’t solve. So rise up and declare, ‘Nothing is too hard for You.’ |
‘Congratulations on your new location!’ MON, 5 AUG 2019 ‘I go to prepare a place for you.’ John 14:2 KJV A lady ordered two bouquets of flowers, one for a friend who was relocating his business and the other for the funeral of a friend who had just died. Unfortunately, the florist mixed up the orders. As a result, the friend relocating his business received flowers with a note saying, ‘In deepest sympathy’, while the deceased’s flowers came with a card saying, ‘Congratulations on your new location!’ Redeemed child of God, one day you’ll hear the words, ‘Congratulations on your new location.’ Heaven isn’t ‘a state of mind’ or celestial cyberspace. It’s a prepared place for a prepared people. The Bible talks of ‘the whole family in Heaven and earth.’ (Ephesians 3:15 KJV) Perhaps someone you’ve loved and lost is waiting for you there and you’re looking forward to seeing them again. Perhaps you’re wondering if we’ll know each other. Yes! Would we know less in Heaven than we knew on earth? No. Paul says, ‘Then shall I know even as also I am known.’ (1 Corinthians 13:12 KJV) Not only will we know each other, but we’ll eat together and enjoy one another for all eternity. Imagine fabulous food with no cholesterol! No disease. And best of all, no heartache, for God Himself will ‘wipe away all tears… and there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying, nor pain. All of that has gone forever.’ (Revelation 21:4 TLB) Have you come to the place in life where you know for sure that if you died today you’d go to Heaven? You can have that assurance by placing your trust in the One who paid for all your sins—and offers you the gift of eternal life. |

Take The Lid Off Your Thinking SUN, 4 AUG 2019 ‘As he thinks within himself, so he is.’ Proverbs 23:7 ISV Until Roger Bannister came on the scene in 1954, some experts said it was physically impossible to run a mile in four minutes or less. The thinking back then was: if it hasn’t been done, it’s because it can’t be done. But Bannister not only did it, he started a new trend. History continues to prove that records are made to be broken. And with God on your side, your chances for success go through the roof! Paul said, ‘I can do everything God asks me to with the help of Christ.’ (Philippians 4:13 TLB) Have you ever seen trained fleas in a jar? You don’t need a lid to keep them in. That’s because when the trainer first places them in the jar, he puts the lid on it, and the fleas jump up and down frantically hitting their heads against it. Finally, after a lot of headaches, they stop jumping and settle in to enjoy their newfound comfort. Now when the lid is removed the fleas are held captive by a mindset that says, ‘So high and no higher.’ What a picture! Jesus said He came to ‘set at liberty them that are bruised.’ (Luke 4:18 KJV) Bruised by what? By past mistakes, by harsh criticism, by crippling fears, by wrong teaching, by physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual handicaps. In other words, Jesus came to help you take the lid off your thinking! No matter how bad your past is, the future He has in mind is better—and it is worth pursuing and fighting for. |

God’s Presence Sets Us Apart SAT, 3 AUG 2019 ‘Your presence among us sets Your people and me apart.’ Exodus 33:16 NLT The world expects Christians to be different from those who don’t profess to know Jesus, and that’s as it should be. Believers should set an example when it comes to serving others and showing love. Jesus said, ‘People will know that you are My followers if you love each other.’ (John 13:35 NCV) In the Old Testament when the Israelites broke God’s covenant by worshipping a golden calf, Moses pleaded with God not to give up on them. His argument was this: ‘How will anyone know that You look favourably on me—on me and on Your people—if You don’t go with us? For Your presence among us sets Your people and me apart.’ What made Israel unique among the nations was the evidence of God’s presence as He journeyed with them. And God’s presence should set you apart too! When Jesus told His disciples, ‘I will be with you always’ (Matthew 28:20 NCV), He demonstrated His presence through the Holy Spirit who dwelt in and empowered them. So much so, that their enemies said they had ‘turned the world upside down.’ (Acts 17:6 NKJV) But as pastor and author Mark D. Roberts observes: ‘This doesn’t give us grounds for pride or boasting. God’s presence is an expression of His grace, not our worthiness. In fact, our confidence in God’s presence… gives us a strong conviction of our high calling to serve Him in every capacity of life. It gives us courage to live according to His Kingdom… to serve others in His name… if God is with us on our side, what do we have to fear?’ So today thank God for His presence in your life, and decide never to take it for granted. |

God’s Remedy For Depression THU, 1 AUG 2019 ‘Why, my soul, are you downcast?’ Psalm 43:5 NIV According to the Counselling Directory, one in 10 people are affected by depression at some point in their lives, with up to 10 times more people suffering from depression now than in 1945. And most of them won’t reach for assistance because they believe depression is a personal weakness. Now, let’s make an important distinction here. If you’re clinically depressed it could be due to a chemical imbalance in your body, and a doctor can help you. But the Bible can help. If you’re feeling sad or hopeless, it provides wisdom on how to recover. Your situation won’t be solved with a few clichés or a good pick-me-up lecture from a friend. What you need is ‘the wisdom that is from above.’ (James 3:17 KJV) After calling down fire from heaven, Elijah ‘sat down… and prayed that he might die.’ (1 Kings 19:4 NKJV) Fortunately, he turned to the right source. ‘All at once an angel touched him and said, “Get up.”’ (1 Kings 19:5 NIV) Now, God may not send you an angel, but He will answer you, lift and restore you. The psalmist said: ‘Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise Him, my Saviour and my God.’ Who is David talking to? Himself! First, he talked to God about his problem; that’s what you do in prayer. Next, he listened to God about his problem; that’s what you do when you read the Scriptures and speak them over your life. That strategy works. It worked for David—and it will work for you too. |
Consecrate Yourself To God Wed, 31 Jul 2019 ‘Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do amazing things among you.’ Joshua 3:5 NIV On the threshold of the Promised Land, God said to His people, ‘Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do amazing things among you.’ When you consecrate yourself to God He will do things in you, with you, for you, and through you that will amaze you. We want to do amazing things for God, and that seems noble. But we’ve got it backwards. God wants to do amazing things for us. That’s His job, not ours. Our job is consecration. And consecration is more than going to church, keeping the Ten Commandments, tithing, sharing your faith, repeating the sinner’s prayer, volunteering for a ministry, singing whole-heartedly in worship, and going on a mission trip. All those are good things, but that isn’t consecration. The utensils used in temple worship were considered ‘consecrated’. In other words, they were set apart for the exclusive use of God. They were devoted to His service. Consecration means dethroning yourself and enthroning Jesus as Lord of your life. It’s the complete divestiture of all self-interest. It’s giving God veto power. It’s surrendering all of you to all of Him. It’s a simple recognition that every second of your time, every tiny fraction of your energy, and every cent of your money is a gift from God and for God. Consecration is an ever-deepening love for Jesus, a childlike trust in your heavenly Father, and a blind obedience to the Holy Spirit. So the word for you today is—consecrate yourself to God. |

God Accepts You ‘In Christ’, So Accept Yourself Mon, 29 Jul 2019 ‘God saw everything that He had made, and behold, it was very good and He validated it completely.’ Genesis 1:31 AMP You can’t deal with anything effectively until you first accept it for what it is—including yourself! Dictionary definitions for ‘accept’ include: (1) to receive willingly (2) to view as right (3) to agree with. First, acceptance involves your will. You can choose to accept yourself or not; it’s up to you. Second, when something is acceptable it’s viewed as being ‘right’. We tend to reject ourselves because we see only what’s wrong with us, rarely what’s right. Often this attitude was instilled in us early in life by those who focused on our weaknesses instead of our strengths, and we still carry their opinions with us. Third, the word accept means ‘to agree with’. If you’re having a problem accepting yourself, you need to get into agreement with God’s Word. He says you’re ‘righteous’, so start saying the same thing (see 2 Corinthians 5:21). That can take a while to sink in, but over time it will take root within you. The Bible says, ‘Can two walk together, except they be agreed?’ (Amos 3:3 KJV) To walk with God you must agree with Him. He says He loves you and accepts you ‘in Christ’, so start to agree with Him and stop putting yourself down. When God made us, He said, ‘It was very good’ and He hasn’t changed His mind. But be patient—He’s not through with His creative work in your life. And He wants you to see yourself as He sees you and learn to love yourself while you’re still ‘under construction’. |

THE DEAD EVANGELIST IN CHOIR ROBE! Brother Clifford made it a duty upon himself that come sunshine and rain, he will be at the Train Station distributing Gospel Tracts to passengers as they board or leave the train! This he did faithfully for several years! One day at the church service after a rendition by the choir members in church, the choir was appreciated, praised and given a standing ovation! Brother Clifford, instead of being happy for them was very sad! He thought his soul winning efforts was not being acknowledged, rewarded or recognised by the church members and ministers! He also noticed that nobody from the station has met him to say thank you for what he has been faithfully doing over the years! Brother Cliffird decided to abandon the trips to the Train Station! Instead he joined the choir and started singing with them! To his surprise he was warmly welcomed! He discovered also that very soon he was singing and receiving standing ovations. He concluded in his mind he has just made the right decision! One day, he sang Psalm 23 as a solo and by the time he finished singing, the whole church including the pastoral team and the elders were on their feet clapping and giving him a standing ovation! Suddenly there arose an old man, a stranger in the midst of the congregation who asked to sing the same song while the church was still on their feet clapping for the soloist! Against protocol, the pastor cynically allowed the old man to sing! By the time the old man finished singing, the whole church was on their kneels, some weeping, others praying in repentance! That day, there was no more sermon but an altar call! With sinners giving their lives and backsliders returning to their first love and the whole church rededicating its live! Brother Clifford, the evangelist in choir robe, felt a deep hole in his heart! He felt empty! He saw the difference between entertainment for the appreciation of men and the ministration for the appreciation of heaven! He left the church with a heavy heart. Without thinking of removing his choir robe, he headed for the Train Station empty handed as if in a trance! Getting there he met a man in the same spot where he used to stand to distribute gospel leaflets before! The man was distributing gospel tracts and handed him one. The Tract read "I WILL BE A FAITHFUL SOLDIER, I WILL DIE AT MY POST". It ended asking, "are you a faithful witness of the WORD?" With tears in his eyes and a shaky voice, he asked the man how he came to start distributing the tracts at the spot in the Train Station! The busy man, not looking at him, told him of a dead man who used to come there come sunshine and rain to distribute tracts! That for months the man has not been there! He told him that he believed and concluded the man must be dead! He said the dead man once gave him a tract before that changed his commitment to Christ! And since the man was dead, he felt God wanted him to replace the dead man to continue the good work in the memory of the dead man! The man kept emphasising, "The Dead Man, The Dead Man" which further sent Brother Clifford back to his kneel weeping and asking for God's forgiveness! Hmm... If you are still reading this believe me, God has set you up to read it because He has a purpose for your life! Have you left your assignment because of some discouragements from cynics and critics? Have you abandoned the unheard, unseen and unsung praise of heaven for the standing ovation of men? Are you like the evangelist in choir robe? Or are you like the singer singing to entertain in church- the place of entertainment is in the theatre not the church! The church is for ministration in the Spirit by Worshiping God in The Spirit and The Truth! GOD ASKED ME TO TELL YOU TODAY THAT HE IS A GOD OF SECOND CHANCES RETURN TO YOUR FIRST LOVE TODAY! Leave A Legacy Sun, 28 Jul 2019 ‘Well done, good and faithful servant.’ Matthew 25:21 NIV You don’t get to choose the moment of your arrival and departure here on earth, but you get to choose what your legacy will be, what you will be remembered for. At five, he wrote an advanced concerto for the harpsichord. Before he was ten he published several violin sonatas and was playing the best of Handel and Bach from memory. Soon after his twelfth birthday he composed and conducted his first opera. He was awarded an honorary appointment as concertmaster with the Salzburg Symphony Orchestra, and within a few years was hailed as the pride of Salzburg. When he died at age thirty-five he had written forty-eight symphonies; forty-seven arias, duets, and quartets, with orchestral accompaniment; and more than a dozen operas. He’s credited with some 600 original compositions in all. Even so, Mozart lived most of his life in poverty and died in obscurity. His sick widow seemed indifferent about his death. A few friends made it to the church for his funeral, but a storm prevented them from going to the graveside for his burial. So the location of his grave became virtually impossible to identify. No shrine marks his resting place. Today, what is Mozart remembered for? What is his legacy? Not the life he lived, but the music he gave the world that still enriches our lives. When your life’s sole focus is self-interest, you won’t be missed when you are gone, or missed for the right reasons. So find a cause greater than yourself, one that will outlive you, and pour yourself into it. Don’t just leave a will, leave a legacy that fulfils God’s will. |
