By Mmaduabuchi Onwumelu

The Acting Vice Chancellor, Nnamdi Azikiwe University (NAU), Awka, Professor Carol Arinze-Umeobi on Monday, 10th November 2025 announced that the institution’s Medical Centre would be offering free dialysis to their bonafide students with kidney related problems.

Arinze-Umeobi disclosed this in an interview after commissioning over ten projects recently executed by her administration across three campuses.

The projects were renovation and launch of two modern dialysis machines in the dialysis and renal therapy unit and digital x-ray unit of the university medical centre, UNIZIK microfinance bank, digital security networks, buses for free transportation for staff and waste bins for the 17 Faculties including Admin block, in Awka permanent site.

Others were renovated and equipped students hostel at Agulu campus where students were equally provided with sanitary detergents, as well as kitchen and toilets, borehole, overhead tank for 6000 gallons and solar powered street lights Mbaukwu campus.

She explained that any of their staff wishing to access the dialysis in the centre would be charged a sum of N10,000 while outsiders would pay N12,500 only as against about N60,000 been charged by private hospitals or N15,000 approved by the federal government.

The Acting Vice Chancellor said that the newly refurbished digital x-ray unit would offer more accurate services at affordable rates to the university community, while the renovated and improved admin blocks, hostels and kitchens and others at Agulu and Mbaukwu would provide conducive environment for effective teaching and learning.

According to her, the university had converted their newly refurbished buses for free transportation scheme for the staff to enable them argument their salaries and properly fend for themselves and families amidst the economic crunch, just as the students would no longer spend heavily on health.

Arinze-Umeobi, while noting that plans were on to establish a department of Unizik welfare, described the projects as remarkable, noting that they would be sustained through the microfinance bank, Unizik business ventures, among other mechanisms to be adopted soonest.

The Acting Vice Chancellor said she was compelled to tackle these to improve the lives of people in the university community having witnessed her beloved died of inefficient dialysis, as well as seen the horrible conditions of students hostels, including what the staff pass through to sustain themselves with meagre resources.

'They are not the only projects I executed by my administration. I have commissioned many of them, but these ones were reserved towards the end of my tenure. I will monitor these projects even after my tenure as Acting Vice Chancellor.

'The SUG and NANS should help us in sensitising students on optimum use of the facilities meant for them. To the staff, I want you to know that your voices will always be heard when you do it properly. You know the right channels to follow.

'I’m not saying you should protest or murmur. Ask properly, and your wishes will definitely be granted. Unizik is a blessed university. I pray you allow Unizik to remain blessed. For those engaging in holiganism, I pray you to leave unizik immediately. Our security is now tight. We have already caught some people. If you engage in theft or vandalise our property, you will face the wrath of law,' she stated.

Call for Accountability Among Contracted Transport Providers to Avoid delays or irregularities

By Mmaduabuchi Onwumelu

Seven foreign observer groups and several Nigerian civil society organizations (CSOs) have stated that going by the official INEC data, a total of 2,802,790 registered voters, including 140,370 newly registered voters, are expected to participate in the election across 326 wards and 5,718 polling units.

Speaking on Thursday in Awka in a joint pre-election briefing titled “Anambra 2025: Efficiency, Integrity and Impartiality Will Make or Mar the Election,” Chairperson of the 2025 Anambra Election Mission, Mr. Asmau Maikudi, and Yiaga Africa’s Executive Director, Samson Itodo, said the team would monitor the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) preparations, logistics deployment, security arrangements, and voter participation.

According to them, they have deployed about 687 accredited observers across Anambra State to monitor the November 8 governorship election.

The deployment forms part of a citizen-led initiative conducted under the Election Observation Hub, a coalition supported by the European Union’s Support to Democratic Governance Project (EU-SDGN).

The observation hub comprises Yiaga Africa, The Kukah Centre, International Press Centre (IPC), Centre for Media and Society (CEMESO), Nigeria Women Trust Fund (NWTF), ElectHER, TAF Africa, and the Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (ILC).

They emphasised that efficiency, integrity, and impartiality would be decisive in determining the credibility of the election and public trust in Nigeria’s democratic process.

“Drawing from past electoral experiences, these three benchmarks will serve as the litmus test for citizens’ confidence in INEC, security agencies, and political actors,” Mr. Maikudi said. “Failure to meet these standards could further erode voter confidence and deepen the legitimacy crisis in Nigeria’s democracy.”

The coalition stated that the observers will work in coordinated clusters focusing on election integrity and results verification, gender and disability inclusion, peacebuilding, media and misinformation tracking, logistics observation, and real-time data reporting.

Yiaga Africa vowed to expose any manipulation of results that do not align with outcomes posted at polling stations, adding that its Watching The Vote methodology would independently verify the accuracy of INEC’s official results.

Yiaga Africa urged INEC to ensure the uniform use of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) across all polling units, as required under the Electoral Act 2022, and to strengthen oversight of logistics, particularly the deployment of election materials and personnel.

It also called for accountability among contracted transport providers to avoid delays or irregularities.

Regarding security, the group warned against the involvement of vigilante or unregulated groups in election duties, urging security agencies to act with neutrality and professionalism.

“Security operations must be intelligence-led, impartial, and non-selective—avoiding intimidation or harassment of voters, political actors, observers, and journalists,” the statement said.

Yiaga Africa recommended that INEC provide clear information on voting arrangements in Ihiala Local Government Area, where polling has been consolidated due to security issues, to prevent confusion or disenfranchisement

The coalition commended the 18 governorship candidates for signing a peace accord facilitated by the National Peace Committee, chaired by former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, describing the move as a vital commitment to a peaceful and credible process.

Reaffirming its commitment to transparency, Yiaga Africa said it would produce a comprehensive, evidence-based report of its observations, calling on all stakeholders to act with restraint and uphold the principles of peace, fairness, and inclusion throughout the electoral process.

By Mmaduabuchi Onwumelu

The deeply touched Mayor of Idemili North, Chief (Sir) Stanley Nkwoka (Ochendo Idemili) recently visited the victims of the unfortunate fire incident that took place at Electrical Market Obosi and supported them financially and emotionally.

It would be recalled that the People's Mayor visited the scene of the incident on the day the fire broke out and was able to assess the level of damage and as well have first-hand information

Sympathizing with the victims, the soft-hearted Council Boss ,accompanied to the visit by the Secretary to Idemili North Government and the President General of Ideani, Hon. Engr. Chidubem Paul Okoye (IkekanaChukwu) expressed dismay over what he described as avoidable outcomes, stating that the issue of fire is not something one can toy with, adding that he would ensure that such a life-threatening and property's destroying incident is nipped in the bud.

He enjoined them to solace in the fact that the fire was subsequently contained, thereby stopping it from spreading further and causing much more havoc in the market.

He appealed to the traders to be conscious of the electrical appliances in their shops and to ensure that they turned off or put away whatever that could ignite fire in their surroundings.

The Mayor of the most populous and densely populated Council Area in Southeastern Nigeria, while comforting the victims, paid a glowing tribute to the Executive Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Soludo (Oluatuegwu) for agreeing to conduct a proper Local Government election, saying that the Governor's action had actually made the hitherto impossible and impracticable things to be happening across the twenty-one local government areas.

General Hospital Ayamelum: NAGGMDP Anambra State Debunks Opposition Viral Video, Describes It As False, Misleading, Says They Carried Out Surgeries, Treatments

By Mmaduabuchi Onwumelu

The Chairman of the Nigerian Association of Government General Medical and Dental Practitioners (NAGGMDP), Anambra State Chapter led by Dr. Chinenye Johnpeter Obi (MBBS, MPH, DFM), has debunked the viral video, making the rounds that no surgery was carried out at the newly built and commissioned General Hospital, Ayamelum.

In a statement signed by the NAGGMDP Boss and made available to newsmen in Awka, the Chairman called on the residents to ignore the online video, insisting that that doctors actually carried out surgeries and other treatments in the hospital, even as he gave the names of the doctors that carried out the surgeries as follows: Dr Obi Chinenye Johnpeter Chairman; Dr Nwokolo Kenneth Vice Chairman 1, Dr Uchenna Okafor, Vice Chairman 2, Dr Peter Anierobi -Member, Dr. Nwadili Bernard Kachi,Dr. Aguluka Theophanes A.A.

He attributed the video to the handiwork of the mischief makers and those who were out ridicule what he described as a genuine effort and achievements of Governor Soludo administration in the health sector.

'We proudly affirm that the Solution Governor has delivered beyond expectations in the health sector, making Anambra a model of efficient, accessible, and equitable healthcare delivery. Solution is truly working — and health is thriving in Anambra State,' he said.

Speaking on the achievements of the Governor in the health sector, 'the Solution Agenda of our working Governor, His Excellency Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, CFR, has brought unprecedented transformation to the health sector in Anambra State, with a clear vision to reduce maternal morbidity and mortality and to ensure that every Anambra citizen has access to quality and affordable healthcare.

'Under the leadership of our Hon. Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ben Afam Obidike, the State Government, has provided one functional General Hospital in every Local Government Area, ensuring equitable distribution of secondary healthcare services. To further enhance maternal and child health, the government introduced free antenatal care and delivery services — including caesarean sections — across all primary and secondary health facilities in the state.

The medical practitioner recognized that healthcare is only as effective as its workforce, noting that the governor employed over 350 health professionals and continued to employ more to bridge human resource gaps

'In addition, the rehabilitation of access roads leading to healthcare facilities has improved accessibility, especially for rural and hard-to-reach communities.

'The establishment of the State Ambulance Service System has further strengthened the referral system, ensuring timely movement of patients and tackling the four major delays that contribute to maternal mortality — delays in seeking care, reaching care, receiving care, and referral.

'In addressing the direct causes of maternal mortality, haemorrhage, sepsis, hypertensive disorders, unsafe abortion, and obstructed labour — the Soludo administration has ensured the establishment of modern blood banking systems at key General Hospitals such as Umueri, Enugwukwu, Ekwulobia, and Nanka.

'These are complemented by the modern Central Pharmacy Store and the ongoing provision of free deliveries (both normal and caesarean), making Anambra one of the leading states in maternal and child health outcomes nation

'In public health and epidemic preparedness, the State’s effective flood response during the 2022 flood disaster stands as a model for others. Through coordinated efforts by the Epidemiology Unit, Ministry of Health, and partners, disease outbreaks were successfully prevented, ensuring the safety and wellbeing of thousands of displaced residents across affected LGAs

'Furthermore, through the “Solution Know Your Numbers” initiative, the government has championed hypertension and diabetes screening across all communities, significantly reducing morbidity and mortality associated with hypertensive and cardiovascular diseases

'Today, the results of these interventions speak for themselves. Anambra State stands tall as a shining example of what visionary leadership and a people-centered health policy can achieve.

'Indeed, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, CFR, has done marvellously well in transforming the health sector of Anambra State. His record of achievements is evident not just within the state but also recognized at the national level,' he concluded.

Anambra ICT Agency MD/CEO, CFA Attends UNIZIK Colloquium, Mobilizes Support for Soludo’s Re-election Bid

By Mmaduabuchi Onwumelu

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Anambra State ICT Agency, Chukwuemeka Fred Agbata (CFA), has called on Anambra students to rally behind Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, CFR, as he seeks re-election, describing him as a visionary leader redefining governance through innovation and technology.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of Agency, Angela Nwanodu, and made available to newsmen in Awka.

CFA made the call while delivering a keynote address at the Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, CFR, Colloquium organized by the National Union of Anambra State Students (NUASS) at the ASUU Secretariat, Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka on Friday.

Speaking on the theme “Rethinking Developmental Governance: The Philosophy of Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo,” the ICT boss highlighted the governor’s transformative strides anchored on his philosophy of people-centered, knowledge-driven, and technology-powered governance.

He noted that Governor Soludo’s “Everything Technology, Technology Everywhere” mantra has not only modernized governance in Anambra but has also opened vast opportunities for youths through digital empowerment initiatives and inclusive development programs.

According to CFA, “Prof. Soludo’s philosophy is about building for tomorrow using knowledge, data, and innovation. Under his leadership, Anambra has moved from governance as routine administration to governance as innovation: one that empowers, transforms, and delivers results. Governor Soludo may not have done everything, but he has done enough to earn our continued support so he can do even more.”

Highlighting key achievements under the Soludo administration, CFA cited the Right of Way waiver, the Solution Wi-Fi Initiative with over 25 free public hotspots, the Smart School Project, and the 1 Youth, 2 Skills Programme as evidence of a government deeply committed to creating opportunities for young people.

He also highlighted the Anambra Silicon Valley Vision, championed by the Solution Innovation District (SID), a strategic roadmap aimed at transforming the state into a regional hub for innovation, research, and enterprise, where young people can ideate, build, and scale digital solutions.

He emphasized that these initiatives have positioned Anambra as one of Nigeria’s most digitally active and forward-thinking states, earning national recognition at the 2024 NCCIDE and 2025 GOVTECH Awards for excellence in digital governance.

In his remarks, CFA urged the students to take ownership of the ongoing transformation by lending their voices and votes to sustain Soludo’s development agenda.

'This revolution belongs to you, the young people. Governor Soludo has laid the foundation; it’s your duty to sustain it. Come November 8, let’s vote to continue building the Anambra of our dreams,' he charged.

Responding on behalf of the student body, the President of NUASS, Comrade Felix C. Nwachinaemelu, GCAS, commended Governor Soludo for his people-oriented policies and pledged the union’s support for his re-election bid.

He noted that the governor’s emphasis on youth inclusion, skill acquisition, and innovation has inspired students across the state to believe more in governance and their own role in shaping Anambra’s future.

The event, which drew the presence of NUASS leadership, university officials, and APGA stakeholders, celebrated Governor Soludo’s visionary leadership and enduring impact on governance, innovation, and youth empowerment in Anambra State

INEC Deploys 24,000 Ad-hoc Staff for November 8 Guber Election in Anambra, Says Results Will Be Announced Only in 5718 Polling Units

By Mmaduabuchi Onwumelu

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reitereted its readiness to organise the most free, fair, transparent, and credible election in the history of the Commission, announcing that a total of 24,000 ad-hoc staff had been deployed to work during the election.

Addressing newsmen at the INEC Collation Centre, Awka, the INEC National Commissioner Supervising Anambra State and Chairman of Tenders Board Committee, Dr. Kenneth Ikeagu, disclosed that election can only take place in 5,718 Polling Units, even as he acknowledged that INEC has 5,720 confirmed Polling Units in Anambra State, adding that the affected two polling units had no registered voters.

'The November 8 Anambra governorship election will be conducted in a total of 5,718 polling units across the state.

'We have 5,720 polling units in Anambra State, but two of them are what we call zero polling units because they have no registered voters. Therefore, the election will take place in 5,718 polling units,' Ikeagu stated.

The INEC National Commissioner assured all the eligible voters that the Commission had no security concerns, noting that continuous engagement with security agencies had yielded positive assurances.

'We have been interfacing with security operatives, and they have assured us that there is no cause for alarm,' he said.

Addressing areas previously affected by insecurity, such as Ihiala Local Government Area, he confirmed that voting would hold in all polling units this time, unlike in previous elections when voting was restricted to the council headquarters.

'In Ihiala, during the last run-off election, we moved polling units to the council headquarters due to security concerns. But this time, the security agencies have assured us that they have taken control of those areas, meaning voting will take place in the regular polling units,'he said.

He further explained that while security personnel will be stationed around polling areas, armed officers will not be deployed directly to polling units, in line with international election standards.

'Armed personnel will not be present at the polling units. However, they will be strategically located nearby to respond swiftly to any security issues,” he stated.

'On the mock accreditation exercise, Olumekun said it was conducted to test the functionality of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) and the result upload process.

'What we did today was a mock accreditation exercise using the BVAS for both voter accreditation and result upload. It was a test run of the entire process, and it was successful. Each polling unit will also have backup BVAS machines in case of any technical issues,' he noted.

'The Commissioner also disclosed that INEC had finalized logistics arrangements with the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) for the movement of election materials and personnel.

'We have signed Memoranda of Understanding with transport unions, and they will be paid half of their fees upfront and the balance after the election. For riverine areas, we have made provisions for boats to ensure easy transportation of materials and personnel,'Olumekun added.

He further assured that sensitive election materials would be delivered 48 hours before the election day, as part of INEC’s commitment to a transparent and credible process.

Earlier in the day, a delegation from the National headquarters, Abuja of the commission such as the National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education, Mr Sam Olumekun; Professor Rhoda Gumus (National Commissioner and Chair of Planning, Monitoring & Strategy Committee); Dr Baba Bila (National Commissioner and Chairman of Electoral Operations and Logistics Committee); and Dr Kenneth Ikeagu (National Commissioner supervising Anambra and Chairman Tenders Board Committee) toured some areas where mock exercise was held in Anambra State and expressed satisfaction with the level of preparedness demonstrated by INEC officials, as well as commended the positive feedback from the voters who participated.

We Are Ready for November 8 Guber Election In Anambra State - INEC

By Mmaduabuchi Onwumelu

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, last Tuesday in Awka announced that Commission is ready for the November 8 gubernatorial election in Anambra State.

The announcement was made by the INEC National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Mr Sam Olumekun, during a forum for media executives, producers,on-air-personalities held in Awka, Anambra State.

Olumekun, who was represented by Deputy Director of Publicity, Mr. Wilfred Ifogah explained that the outcome of the continuous voters registeration exercise held recently in the state indicated that Anambra presently has 2.82 million voters.

According to him, materials for the election were readily available, while training, sensitisation, and stakeholders' engagements continue towards ensuring that the exercise would be credible and hitch-free.

He, therefore, sought support from the media practitioners in reporting the outcome of the election objectively by refraining from spreading fake news and unverified information, which he believed was the biggest threat to electoral integrity.

Also speaking, the State Resident Electoral Commissioner (INEC), Dr Queen Elizabeth Agwu, said the commission has enjoyed co-operation with the media in the state since she took over.

Agwu, who said that media were indispensable partners in delivering accurate and balanced information to the public, urged them to continue in educating the citizens on their roles in democracy by voting according to their conscience, and retraining from disseminating misinformation.

Earlier speaking, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra State Council, Dr Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, represented by the Secretary, Dr Okechukwu Onuegbu, applauded INEC for convening the forum and reiterated the NUJ’s commitment to supporting free and fair elections.

He, however, stressed the need for greater collaboration, especially during election periods through provisions of accessible communication channels or active phone lines and desk officers journalists can contact easily for verifications.

Anambra NUJ Secretariat Gets Fibre Internet Access, Strengthening Soludo’s Digital Vision

By Angela Nwanodu

The Anambra State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has received a major digital boost following the successful installation and activation of high-speed fibre internet at the Godwin Ezeemo NUJ Secretariat, Awka.

The development, facilitated by the Anambra State ICT Agency under the leadership of its MD/CEO, Chukwuemeka Fred Agbata, CFA, fulfills a request made during the NUJ Congress held on October 3, 2025, and marks another milestone in the ongoing drive to deepen digital inclusion across Anambra State.

Announcing the milestone, Agbata described the project as “a testament to what can be achieved when purpose meets partnership,” noting that “anytime there is power, journalists at the NUJ Secretariat will enjoy seamless and dependable internet access. You journalists are the voice of the people, the guardians of truth, and the architects of an informed society. Supporting your work is not just a duty; it is an honour.”

This initiative aligns with Governor Soludo's “Everything Technology, Technology Everywhere” mantra, a forward-looking vision to democratize internet access, bridge information divides, and foster inclusion through technology.

Agbata further commended the visionary leadership of Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, CFR (Oluatuegwu), whose bold digital vision continues to unlock new possibilities across the state. “Thank you, Mr. Governor, for providing the enabling environment and making the bold decision to waive the Right of Way (RoW) charges, which paved the way for broadband access and digital infrastructure development across Anambra,” he added.

By empowering this critical stakeholder group in state development, this milestone not only enhances media productivity but also reinforces Anambra’s position as a leader in digital governance, driven by innovation, partnership, and purpose (MOI).

ICT Agency MD, CFA Attends NUJ Anambra State Council October Meeting, Addresses Journalists, Reels Out Governor Soludo’s Digitization Achievements

It is truly an honour to stand before you today. The role of the media in shaping narratives, holding leaders accountable, and amplifying the voices of our people cannot be overstated. That is why I welcome this opportunity to share the story of the Anambra State ICT Agency, our mandate, our journey, and our achievements so far under the visionary leadership of our Governor, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, CFR. (Oluatuegwu)

*Mandate of the Agency*

The Anambra State ICT Agency was established with a clear and compelling mandate: to drive digital transformation in Anambra State.

At its core, our role is incubatory: to design, coordinate, and implement technology initiatives that make governance more efficient, inclusive, transparent, and people-centred.

We exist to ensure that *“Everything Technology, Technology Everywhere”* is not just a slogan but a lived reality where government processes are digitized, citizens can access services seamlessly, and technology becomes the true backbone of governance.

*Our Vision* is to build a digitally transformed Anambra.

*Our Mission* is to support the delivery of everything technology and technology everywhere in the state.

*Our Core Values* are innovation, collaboration, data-driven decision making, solution-focused execution, and community orientation.

And you will see these values reflected in all we have achieved under Governor Soludo’s leadership.

*The RoW Waiver: The Hidden Backbone*

One of the most foundational, yet understated, decisions in this digital journey was made in 2022, the waiver of the Right of Way (RoW) charges for broadband infrastructure by Mr.Governor.

At first glance, it seemed like a mere policy decision. But in reality, it was the bedrock of Anambra’s digital revolution. By removing the barriers that had long stifled broadband expansion, Governor Soludo sent a powerful message: Anambra is open for digital business.

This singular decision unlocked opportunities for:

Fibre-to-home deployment,

5G infrastructure expansion,

Faster and more reliable internet across communities.

It also created an enabling environment where innovators, telecom operators, and entrepreneurs can thrive. Simply put, it unlocked what had been locked.

And today, the results are visible, not theoretical.

*Public WiFi & Connectivity*

One of the clearest testaments to this policy is the Solution WiFi Initiative: a people-centred project directly rooted in Governor Soludo’s People’s Manifesto, which pledged to “Provide cheap (and ultimately free) Wi-Fi hotspots in public places …” (see pp. 20).

That promise is now a reality, with 25 live Solution WiFi sites across the state, including schools, lodges, public spaces, and government institutions.

Current Solution WiFi locations include:

Aroma Junction

Ada Jesus Lodge

Living Spring Lodge

Eke Awka

Address Lodge

Novena Lodge

ABS Bus Stand

These hotspots are not just infrastructure, they are lifelines. They democratize internet access for students, traders, civil servants, and everyday Ndi Anambra, bridging information divides and fostering inclusion.

*Digitization of Governance*

Beyond connectivity, the ICT Agency is reshaping governance itself.

*Digital EXCO Proceedings:* As they say, Charity begins at home right? What used to be paper-based has now been digitized.

This has cascaded into MDAs, making civil service operations faster and smarter.

Devices for Civil Servants & Schools: From less than 300 functional computers in 2022, the state has grown to over 5,000 devices distributed across MDAs, LG Heads of BPRS Departments, including Ministries of Justice, Special Duties, the Civil Service Commission, and the Disability Rights Commission. Teachers and principals also received 2,000 laptops in 2024, with more to come under the Smart School Project.

Domain Adoption & Standardization: The adoption of anambrastate.gov.ng for official email strengthens credibility, cybersecurity, and authenticity of official communication in government

The Anambra Cloud: A robust, centralized data repository to support e-governance.

Supported the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning with the Automation of budget processes and the deployment of the Solution Lens platform, a civic engagement platform accessible via (lens.anambrastate.gov.ng) that allows citizens to track and report government projects in real-time.

*Conclusion*

Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, the story of Anambra’s digital transformation is still unfolding, but the foundation has been laid, strong and unshakable.

From the quiet yet bold RoW waiver, to the visible footprint of Solution WiFi, to the digitization of governance, what we are building under Governor Soludo is a future where technology works for the people.

This is about more than gadgets and cables.

It is about creating a smart, liveable, and prosperous megacity, one that equips its youth, empowers its workers, strengthens its institutions, and ensures that no one is left behind.

And so, I invite you, the media, our partners in progress, to continue to shine your light on this journey. Tell the stories, ask the hard questions, and together, let us keep shaping a narrative of hope, innovation, and transformation.

Thank you, and God bless Anambra State.

Political Communications Consultant, Ozumba Drills Participants on Early Response System as The Kukah Centre Sets Roadmap for Peaceful Election in Anambra.

By Chike Mabene

The imperative of implementating Early Warning-Early Response (EWER)System as precursor to successful gubernatorial election in Anambra State was the emphasis during a 4-Day Training Workshop organized by The Kukah Centre, Secretariat of the National Peace Committee from 23rd -26th September 2025 at Golden Tulip, Crown Prince Hotel Awka.

Presentating a paper on Building Community Resilience for Gubernatorial Elections: A Guide to Strenghtening Early Warning-Early Response (EWER) System in Anambra State, Emeka Ozumba, a partner in Delight Resource Team, facilitators of the Workshop, on behalf of Lead Partner, AVM Benard Chiobi (rtd), stressed the importance of putting in place proactive measures to mitigate the impact of negative occurrences and simultaneous strenghtening of processes by both the Community Resilient Agents and the Early Response stakeholders to ensure successful elections.

Ozumba who is also the Managing Consultant of Ozion Limited, political communications Advisors, drilled the Early Warning participants over two days on their role as Community Resilient Agents who will undertake prompt detection and collation of essential data, analyse and report same to designated Early Response teams in the Local Government Areas in actionable format thereby dictating immediate action to forestall threats that may mar the elections.

Speaking on the third-day in a session with the Early Response (ER) team, on Co-ordinated Responses to The Early Warnings: Strenghtening Multi-Stakeholder Preparedness, Ozumba stated that moving from early warning to early response is critical because early warning will be useless without timely, effective response.

He emphasised the avoidance of delayed communication, unclear roles, or lack of resources, stressing that "information must trigger action," otherwise it remains only information not prevention.Further more, Ozumba advocated for rapid response action plan indicating who does what, when and how with assignment of accountability to avoid duplications.

He concluded that the ideal situation is for the communication chain to be quick, reliable and tested with resources like hotlines and security contacts that allow for rapid deployment.

Earlier, in her opening remarks, the Project Manager, Barrister. Asabe Ndahi explained the objectives, expectations, and ground rules governing the project, and harped on the need for commitment and accountability from the trainees to meet the expectations of The Kukah Centre and the National Peace Committee (NPC) in furtherance of sustained quest for peaceful elections by engaging with key actors to avoid any action that threatens rather than promote the peace, unity and development of Nigeria.

Barrister Asabe said that the Early Warning-Early Response training in Anambra State is a pilot phase of the programme, and praised the State's leadership structure at all levels which makes for easy identification of relevant stakeholders. She also called on the participants to see themselves as change agents who must embrace the onerous duty of service towards ensuring peaceful elections not just in Anambra State but in Nigeria.

The training programme which was sponsored by the European Union is a project of The Kukah Centre aimed at building a culture of tolerance and peaceful campaigns amongst political actors through co-ordinated actions of Local Government level Early Warning System piloted by Community Resilient Agents who are equipped to track and report potential security threats and report same to the Early Response team of stakeholders with the reach and know-how for nipping in the bud potential breakdown of peace before, during and post the elections in Anambra State.

Participants for the Early Warning(EW) System training were drawn from the twenty-one local Government Arears of Anambra State, while the Early Response (ER) stakeholders in attendance include; Igwe Ben Emeka (Okebo II of Umueri), NLC, Boss, Sir Humphery Emeka Nwafor, ASTUC President General, Sir Vin Dike, IPAC Secretary, Hon. Ugo Eminent, ANCISRO MD, Sir Chuka Nnabuife, representatives of Community Based Organizations, Nigerian Union of Journalists, the Police, and Civil Defence amongst others.
