Comrade Okoli urged all patriotic Anambra youths, both within Nigeria and in the diaspora, to recite the anthem at least once daily, whether in the morning, afternoon, or at night.

He noted that regular recitation of the anthem would reinforce the spirit of service, unity, and responsibility among young people, while promoting the belief that “Anambra is ours and Anambra we serve.”

The ASTUC Boss, further encouraged the inclusion of the anthem in all youth-related meetings, functions, events, and gatherings as a collective prayer for the state's continued development.

We are the only ones to make her brighter
The only ones to make her better
The only ones to make Anambra shine
With our sweat and blood, every breath of our lives
With trust in God
We would lift our homeland high
We believe in togetherness
We’ll build a land of progress
Lift the spirit of Anambra
Lift the spirit of Anambra
Lift the spirit of Anambra, State we love."

The youth leaders expressed joy that Mba has made them proud and promised Mr Governor that the performance of Agha Mba in this second term will be doubled because they will work more with him to succeed.

They passed a vote of confidence on hon Patrick being a former President General of ASTUC YOUTH and that he will continue to make the youth constituency proud.

Comrade Ken Okoli also used the opportunity to thank the MD/CEO of Pineleaf Estates & Properties Ltd, Archbishop Onyeka Joseph Nzekwesi, for gifting ASTUC YOUTH Dunukofia LGA a shuttle bus and 5 million naira to support their programmes and activities in Dunukofia. Comrade Chijioke Egbuna Youth-Mayor of Dunukofia LGA, while showing the car gift to Mr President at the meeting venue expressed joy and happiness that over the gift. The PG ASTUC Youth used the opportunity to call on well meaning individuals and philanthropist to emulate Archbishop Nzekwesi in empowering the ASTUC YOUTH at the community level, LGA, Zone and State as a way of encouraging them to do better for the common good of the society.

During the meeting, the youth leaders also offered prayers for the leadership of Anambra State, particularly Governor Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, and his deputy, Dr. OnyekaChukwu Ibezim. They prayed for divine wisdom, guidance, and strength for the state’s leadership as they continue efforts to consolidate ongoing transformation and development initiatives for the benefit of all residents.

ASTUC Youth reaffirmed its commitment to supporting policies and initiatives that promote unity, progress, and sustainable development across Anambra State.

2027 General Elections: ANSAA Releases Advert Rates for All Political Campaigns, Threatens Sanctions Over Illegal Campaign Advertisements, Pegs Presidential Permit At N50m

By Mmaduabuchi Onwumelu

The Anambra State Signage and Advertisement Agency (ANSAA) has released an advertisement rates for All Political Campaigns in the state, even as it warned political parties and candidates participating in the 2027 general elections to comply strictly with its guidelines for out-of-home promotions and visual campaign activities or face sanctions.

The agency issued the warning during a press conference held at its headquarters in Awka on Friday, May 29, 2026.

Addressing journalists, the Assistant General Manager of ANSAA, Engr. Chika Ngobili, stated that all the candidates seeking elective positions in the 2027 elections must obtain permits from the agency and pay the approved fees before deploying any form of outdoor promotional or campaign materials across the state.

According to him, the permit authorises candidates and political parties to deploy approved campaign materials and activities, including posters, banners, branded vehicles, public address systems, rallies, fliers, T-shirts, caps and other related promotional materials in designated locations within Anambra State.

Ngobili outlined the approved permit fees as follows:
₦50 million for presidential candidates,
₦20 million for senatorial candidates
₦5 million for House of Representatives candidates
₦1.5 million for House of Assembly candidates
₦2.5 million for local government chairmanship candidates
₦100,000 for councillorship candidates.

He explained that the permit system is aimed at ensuring orderliness, preventing visual pollution, protecting public infrastructure, maintaining professional standards, guaranteeing fairness and equal access to advertising opportunities, as well as ensuring proper coordination of campaign-related outdoor activities across the state.

The agency also advised political parties and candidates to engage only practitioners registered with the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON), stressing that all campaign materials intended for outdoor display by political parties, candidates, support groups, advertising agencies and practitioners must be vetted by ARCON before deployment.

ANSAA further cautioned against the indiscriminate pasting of posters and campaign materials on public buildings, road signs, bridges, flyovers, drainage channels, public monuments, utility installations, schools, hospitals and other prohibited locations across the state.

Access to Clean Energy Strengthens Women’s Empowerment in Africa — Yennco World Trade CEO, Dr. Nwafor

By Our Reporter

The Chief Executive Officer of Yennco World Trade Limited and delegate to the ECOWAS Presidential Initiative on Climate Change, Renewable Energy and Food Security (Pi-CREF), Dr. Onyeka Nwafor, has stated that increased access to clean energy is significantly enhancing women’s economic empowerment across Africa while also improving healthcare delivery.

Dr. Nwafor made this known during the launch of the 2026 ECOWAS LPG Programme and a high-level dialogue on clean cooking, gender equality, and child protection held in Freetown, Sierra Leone.

Addressing newsmen shortly after the event, Dr. Nwafor noted that the transition to solar power, clean cooking solutions, and renewable energy sources is already transforming lives across West Africa.

“Today, the adoption of clean energy has significantly improved healthcare outcomes for women and children by reducing smoke inhalation, lowering respiratory illnesses, and enhancing maternal and child health,” he said.
He further explained that access to clean energy has boosted women’s economic empowerment by supporting businesses such as hair salons, tailoring and fashion enterprises, agro-processing ventures, and phone charging services.

According to him, there is an urgent need for stronger inclusion of African women in the continent’s transition to clean energy, stressing that such participation would undoubtedly improve living standards and economic opportunities.

In her address, Sierra Leone’s First Lady, Mrs. Fatima Maada Bio, described limited access to clean cooking solutions as “not just an environmental issue, but a national emergency and public health crisis.”

She revealed that Sierra Leone’s national school feeding programme, which serves more than 600,000 children, had previously relied heavily on biomass fuel.

The event marked the commencement of a pilot phase aimed at expanding access to Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) across Sierra Leone. President Julius Maada Bio announced the distribution of 10,000 clean cooking gas canisters to households as part of the initiative.

Globally, more than 9.6 million people still lack access to clean cooking solutions, while toxic smoke from biomass and charcoal is linked to an estimated 3.7 million deaths annually, most of them involving women and children.

According to Sierra Leone’s Minister of Energy, Cyril Arnold Grant, only 1.5 per cent of households in the country currently use clean cooking solutions, while 72 per cent depend on firewood and 22 per cent rely on charcoal.

Addressing stakeholders at the event, President Bio stated: “Women do not lack solutions; they lack champions.”

He called on the private sector to invest more in clean energy initiatives and urged that women should be empowered not merely as beneficiaries, but as entrepreneurs and leaders across the clean energy value chain.

The dialogue attracted several African First Ladies and key stakeholders in the energy sector, including Kenya’s First Lady, Rachel Ruto, and Ghana’s former Second Lady, Samira Bawumia, who serves as Global Ambassador for the Clean Cooking Alliance.
Mrs. Ruto stressed that Africa’s clean cooking movement must ensure that “no woman cooks in toxic smoke and no forest disappears due to dependence on charcoal and firewood.”

She also emphasised the importance of involving women as critical stakeholders in the energy transition process, noting that their participation would help shape solutions that reflect local realities and community needs.

Chief Executive Officer of the Clean Cooking Alliance, Dymphna van der Lans, stated that African First Ladies possess a unique capacity to drive conversations and partnerships that promote clean cooking, gender equity, and public health.

Similarly, the CEO of Sustainable Energy for All, Damilola Ogunbiyi, observed that empowering women within the clean energy sector could significantly improve energy access, reduce emissions, and strengthen community resilience.

Mrs. Bio reiterated that the ultimate goal of the initiative is to transition schools and households nationwide to cleaner cooking systems in order to protect women, children, and teachers from harmful emissions.

She also expressed appreciation to regional partners and civil society organisations for their continued support and commitment to the initiative.
The programme is being supported by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), the Clean Cooking Alliance, and the Presidential Initiative on Climate Change, Renewable Energy and Food Security (Pi-CREF).

Imo State Varsity Currently Having Serious Shortage of Academic Staff Since 2015 ‐ ASUU Owerri Zone Coordinator, Aribodor

By Mmaduabuchi Onwumelu

The Coordinator of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Owerri Zone, Professor Dennis Aribodor, says Imo State University (IMSU) is presently having serious shortage of Academic Staff Since 2015 till date despite the Union’s agitation across board, including letters to the Imo State Government.

This was contained in a Communique signed by him during the Union’s interactive session with the press, held at the ASUU NAU Secretariat domiciled inside Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, on Tuesday, 19th May 2026.

He noted that the employed academic staff that was 1009 in 2015 has drop down to 541 in 2026, making the Varsity less functional.

According to him, the media interactive session was also to present the outcome of our review of the implementation of the signed Agreement and other outstanding issues with the Federal Government of Nigeria.

'We are apprehensive that the momentum of trust and goodwill generated with the unveiling of the 2025 FGN-ASUU Agreement on 14th January, 2026 is fast waning and may soon be lost if government’s promise to fully implement the Agreement is not kept.

'Our apprehension is predicated on government’s failure to inaugurate the Implementation Monitoring Committee (IMC) expected to shield the Agreement from bureaucratic bottlenecks and guide its strategic actualization. So far, the Federal Government agents have implemented it in a distorted and an uncoordinated manner while very few state governments have embraced and implemented aspects of the Agreement. Administrators of Federal universities are picking and choosing what to pay among the Consolidated Academic Tool Allowances (CATA), Earned Academic Allowances (EAA) and Professorial Allowances (PA), whereas all of these should have been mainstreamed with the Consolidated Academic Staff Salary Scale (CONUASS) as monthly salary packages for the concerned academic staff.

'Not withstanding that representatives of Governing Councils of State universities actively participated in the negotiations and signing of the Agreement, some State governors, Visitors to State universities, have apparently turned their back on the Agreement.

'While commending some State universities in the Northern and Western parts of the country that blazed the trail in implementing the Agreement, it is sad to note that no state university in the South East has implemented the Agreement.

'ASUU Owerri Zone strongly condemns the partial or non-implementation of the salary component of the 2025 FGN-ASUU Agreement by Vice-Chancellors.

'We call on Federal and State governments to respect the letters and spirit of the Agreement for lasting industrial harmony on our campuses.

'ASUU Owerri Zone shall stop at nothing to ensure that all our members fully benefit from the modest gains of the eight-year long negotiation (2017-2025).

'The gap created by non-inauguration of the IMC is equally evident in the distorted implementation of another key component of the December 2025 Agreement.

'On the proposed National Research Council (NRC). on Wednesday, 7th April, 2026, the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, announced that the Federal Executive Council (FEC) had concluded plans to establish a National Research and Innovation Development Fund (NRIDF) to which ASUU had no input whatsoever! We are surprised that the Minister’s proposal talks of $500 million without reference to the FGN-ASUU Agreement which calls for “at least 1% equivalent of GDP as source of funding research, innovation, and development.” While the Union is not averse to Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) and other stakeholders making contributions to the development of the legal and policy frameworks of the Fund.

'ASUU Owerri Zone calls on the Federal Government to be properly guided by the well-thought-out frameworks and objectives set out for it in the new FGN-ASUU Agreement.

'We shall resist any attempt to hijack and derail the research and development agenda by external agents and their local collaborators.

'We are at a loss as to why the Minister preferred to denominate the funding in dollars! Are they going to get another debt to fund research, or is government beholden to promises by Bretton-woods institutions to fund research in Nigeria?

'The sources for funding the proposed National Research Council are clearly spelt out in Agreement.

'Before the conclusion of the December 2025 Agreement, members of the Government’s Renegotiating Team led by Mallam Yayale Ahmed made frantic efforts to sort out all outstanding entitlements of lecturers with their principals. This, they said, was meant to chart a new path to industrial harmony in Nigerian universities and make the new Agreement start off on a clean slate. Unfortunately, government failed to act. Many of the issues still remain unresolved to-date. Among these are arrears of the 25-35% salary award, arrears of promotions, remittances of third-party deductions (Union check-off dues, cooperative society deductions, pension contributions, national housing fund deductions, etc.), salary shortfalls arising from IPPIS mutilations, and the withheld three-and-half months’ salaries occasioned by the 2022 industrial action.

'No country can progress when the welfare issues of its academics are left unattended.

“Withholding lecturers’ salaries on account of “no work, no pay” is like reducing scholars to menial workers whose livelihood is calibrated in physical appearance at their worksite. As for the 2022 strike action, our members sacrificed their annual leaves and personal comfort to cover the outstanding work. And yet, they are still being punished.

'The affected students had since graduated and academic calendars have been regularized in all public universities for three consecutive years. Has government thought of lecturers abandoning accumulated work, which will hinder the students from graduating?

'Closely related to these issues is the abandonment of our retired colleagues. In many states (for those who retired from state universities), their pension is running into years in arrears, and for those registered with different Pension Fund Administrators (PFAs) other than NUPEMCO, PENCOM has deliberately delayed the harmonization of their benefits, by withholding the share of contribution that should come from PENCOM. ASUU Owerri Zone seriously frowns at this inhuman treatment meted to our retired colleagues. ASUU Owerri Zone calls on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as Visitor to Federal Universities, and the State Governors, as Visitors to State universities, to immediately address the vexatious delay in the salary and other staff welfare issues including the pension of our colleagues to douse tensions that threaten the fragile industrial peace on our campuses.

'Over the years, ASUU has had to wage many battles back on the campuses because of some unhealthy practices by university administrators and governing councils. We fought against irregular appointments, misappropriation of funds, disrespect for extant laws, rules and many more in various universities. Vice-Chancellors in recent years have introduced extraneous positions like “Professor of Practice” and “Diaspora Professors”, which are unknown to their University Senates and Governing Councils, to reward their cronies and benefactors. In the process, people with doubtful academic credentials find their way into the university system and some even rise to become vice-chancellors. Our Union had equally challenged vice-chancellors for lack of transparency and accountability in handling university finances and took on pro-chancellors who overreached their mandates.

'The increasing incidence of maladministration of Nigerian universities must be arrested because of its debilitating effects on the academic environment respected for probity, transparency and accountability. Credibility is the currency for effective leadership and governance of a university. A discredited person occupying the office of Vice-Chancellor or Chairman of Council is a liability to the university. Appointing authorities must therefore ensure that questionable characters are not found in our universities, more so in the elevated offices of the universities.

'The state universities in ASUU Owerri Zone are Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) owned by the Anambra State Government and Imo State University Owerri (IMSU) owned the Imo State Government. These universities have key issues demanding the urgent attention of their Visitors (the State Governors), the Governing Councils and the University Administrations.

'The issues demanding urgent attention in COOU include: “the withheld salaries of academic staff that participated in the 2020 and 2022 strike actions; the non-implementation of 25% and 35% wage awards and the current N70,000 minimum wage, the non-implementation of all the components of the 2025 ASUU-FGN agreement.

'At IMSU, the Union is deeply worried over the continued neglect of critical issues affecting the university and our members of particular concern is the non-implementation of the 2025 FGN-ASUU Agreement, the continued retention of university in the Treasury Single Account (TSA) of the state government which undermines institutional autonomy and hampers effective administration, the prolonged delay in staff promotion, the non-payment of promotion arrears dating back to 2016, the absence of staff recruitment since 2015 among others.

'We call on the visitors to COOU and IMSU to urgently address these important issues for the good of these universities.

'ASUU Owerri zone is therefore raising the alarm and calling on all critical stakeholders including traditional rulers, religious leaders, students, parents, the NLC, media and the civil society groups to urge governments (both states and federal) to ensure the faithful implementation of the 2025 FGN-ASUU Agreement and address the stated outstanding issues to avoid disruptions in our universities,' the communique read

EducationRebuttal To The Allegations Against The Deputy Vice Chancellor (academics), Tans by Buchi2023(op): 1:59am On May 23
REBUTTAL TO THE ALLEGATIONS AGAINST THE DEPUTY VICE CHANCELLOR (ACADEMICS), TANSIAN UNIVERSITY, OBA CAMPUS

Our attention has been drawn to a publication circulating publicly containing several allegations directed at the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics) of Tansian University, Oba Campus, Professor Cater Nnamdi Umeoduagu.

We wish to state clearly and unequivocally that these allegations appear to unfairly and inaccurately portray the office and person of the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics).

Professor Cater Nnamdi Umeoduagu serves specifically as Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics) an office principally responsible for academic coordination, maintenance of academic standards, quality assurance, curriculum implementation, and the oversight of academic affairs of the University. As the second-in-command within the university administration, his office operates within established institutional governance structures and does not function as a sole authority over broad institutional policies or administrative decisions.

It is therefore inaccurate and unjust to personalize institutional developments or attribute the challenges currently being discussed solely to his office without evidence and proper institutional process.

Professor Umeoduagu is widely recognized as a seasoned administrator, distinguished scholar, and a man of chaste character whose years of service have been marked by integrity, discipline, fairness, and unwavering commitment to educational excellence. Throughout his academic and administrative career, he has demonstrated dedication to the advancement of learning, institutional growth, and the welfare of students.

The attempt to connect him personally to allegations relating to fee policies, student welfare concerns, campus restructuring, intimidation, or other administrative matters should not replace due process, responsible engagement, and objective assessment of facts.

Universities are governed through structured administrative systems and collective decision-making. While students and stakeholders retain the right to raise concerns and seek accountability, such concerns should be pursued through lawful and responsible channels that protect truth, fairness, and institutional integrity.

We therefore call on members of the university community, education stakeholders, and the public to exercise restraint, avoid amplifying unverified claims, and allow appropriate institutional mechanisms to address concerns constructively.

ATASP-1 Hands Over Rehabilitated Irrigation Pumping Station to AIRBDA

By Our Reporter

The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening food security through expanded irrigation and year-round farming, following the handover of the rehabilitated Lower Anambra Irrigation Project (LAIP) Water Pumping Station in Ifite-Ogwari, Ayamelum Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The project, executed under the Agricultural Transformation Agenda Support Programme Phase One (ATASP-1), was officially handed over to the Anambra-Imo River Basin Development Authority (AIRBDA) during a ceremony attended by government officials, farmers and community leaders.

Speaking on behalf of the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, the National Programme Coordinator of ATASP-1, Dr. Mohammed Ibrahim Arabi, described the project as a major milestone in the Federal Government’s drive to modernise agriculture and boost dry-season farming.

Represented by the National Programme Civil Engineer, Engr. Usman Abdullahi, Arabi said the irrigation scheme would enhance food production and support sustainable farming across the Anambra River Basin.

He disclosed that more than 2,000 hectares of farmland had been rehabilitated, enabling farmers in Omor and surrounding communities to cultivate throughout the year.

“For years, farmers depended largely on rain-fed agriculture, limiting productivity and exposing them to climate-related challenges. With this irrigation infrastructure fully restored, farmers can now engage in multiple planting cycles annually and improve yields and income,” he said.

Earlier, the Zonal Programme Coordinator of ATASP-1 Adani-Omor Zone, Dr. Romanus Egba, said the rehabilitation included the restoration of the pumping station and the lining of 40.1 kilometres of irrigation canals.

According to him, the project was funded by the African Development Bank in partnership with the Federal Government, with counterpart support from the Anambra State Government.

Egba commended the administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo for supporting the project, particularly through the provision of a 5,000KVA power transformer to ensure stable electricity supply to the facility.

He also acknowledged the contributions of traditional rulers and key stakeholders, including the Chairman of AIRBDA, Senator Emma Obiajulu Anosike, and Rt. Hon. Justice Paul Obidigwe, towards the successful completion of the project.

“The pumping station is a critical component of the irrigation system serving the Ayamelum agricultural corridor. Its rehabilitation became necessary after years of deterioration that disrupted water supply and farming activities,” Egba said.

He added that the restored facility would improve dry-season farming, increase crop yields, generate employment and stimulate agribusiness activities across the area.

Receiving the facility on behalf of AIRBDA, Senator Emma Obiajulu Anosike commended ATASP-1 for revitalising the abandoned infrastructure and pledged proper maintenance and sustainability.

“We appreciate ATASP-1 for restoring this facility. AIRBDA will ensure efficient management and long-term sustainability of the infrastructure,” he said.

The Traditional Ruler of Ifite-Ogwari, HRH Igwe Alphonsus Ofuebe (Ogidiga), described the intervention as a major boost for rice farmers and agricultural productivity in Ayamelum.

The event attracted over 200 farmers from across the local government area, alongside officials of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security and representatives of the Omor Kingdom.

Anambra North 2027: Leaders With Vision Initiative Endorse Obiogbolu

It's harvest of endorsements for the Senatorial aspiration of Dr Alex Obiogbolu, the former Special Adviser to Gov Charles Soludo on Political Matters got a boost yesterday as Leaders With Vision Initiative endorsed his candidature.

Just few days ago, Oyi LGA Stakeholders took the bull by the horns by endorsing Dr Obiogbolu's senatorial aspiration in a well attended meeting at Awkuzu.

The Coordinator of the group, Mr Ifeanyi Oge who was speaking with journalists at Nsugbe, in Anambra East LGA of the State said that Dr Obiogbolu has proven over and over that he is eminently qualified to give Anambra North Senatorial zone a responsible and responsive representation at the Senate.

He pointed out that Dr Obiogbolu's track record of performance cannot be wished away with a wave of the hand.

Mr Oge whose group supported the re-election bid of Gov Charles Soludo with a whopping two million Naira said that Leaders With Vision Initiative is ready to extend similar gesture to the former Political Adviser.

"Dr Obiogbolu's record as Special Adviser to Gov Charles Soludo on Political Matters is there for all to see, he is a major factor in the transformation and stability recorded in the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the past three years," Mr Oge noted

The Coordinator of Leaders With Vision Initiative said that the best thing that will happen to Anambra North zone in 2027 is to have Dr Obiogbolu as their voice in the Senate.

"He is credible, knowledgeable, experienced and humble, Obiogbolu is not a kind of person who will abandon us in Anambra North zone after emerging victorious as the Senator representing the zone. He is a promise keeper and an individual who is just and fair" he said.

Mr Oge said as matter of fact that the officials and members of his group who are in APGA are waiting anxiously for May 23rd so that they can be part of the efforts for his victory at the primaries.

"The proof of the pudding is in the eating, Dr Obiogbolu is tested and trusted, he remains the round peg for the round hole as far as Anambra North Senatorial zone is concerned. He is the best man for the job," he concluded.

CareerEcosystems Are Engineered: The Difference Between A Growing Ecosystem And A Tran by Buchi2023(op): 7:54pm On May 15
Ecosystems Are Engineered: The Difference Between a Growing Ecosystem and a Transit Ecosystem

Everywhere you turn in tech, innovation, business, and education today, people reference the same ecosystems:
China.
Silicon Valley.
Japan.
South Korea.
Israel.
Their products dominate conversations.
Their systems are studied.
Their companies set global standards.
And naturally, many developing ecosystems, including Nigeria’s ecosystem aspire toward similar levels of innovation, productivity, and global relevance.
But lately, I’ve found myself asking a different question:
How exactly did these ecosystems become what they are today?
Because none of them started powerful.
At some point:
American fashion was considered classless and derivative compared to Europe.
Japanese products were mocked globally as cheap and low-quality.
Chinese technology was dismissed as imitation-driven.
South Korea was rebuilding from war and poverty.
India was largely viewed as a low-cost outsourcing destination.
Silicon Valley itself was not always the world’s innovation capital.
Yet today, these same ecosystems are global references for excellence.
So what changed?
The Myth of “Naturally Successful Countries”
One of the biggest misconceptions about successful countries is the belief that they became globally competitive because their people were simply more disciplined, more intelligent, or more visionary from the beginning.
History tells a different story.
What transformed these countries was not accidental brilliance.
It was intentional ecosystem building.
Repeated institutional interventions over time.
That is the real pattern.
For example, I recently read about the origins of the Met Gala.
Long before it became one of the world’s most prestigious fashion events, American fashion struggled for legitimacy. European fashion houses dominated prestige and influence, while American fashion was seen as commercial, copycat, and lacking sophistication.
Then institutions emerged.
Fashion leaders collaborated.
An academy was formed.
Funding challenges appeared.
And eventually, a cultural intervention was created - an elite fundraising dinner that elevated visibility, prestige, and financial sustainability for the institution.
That intervention evolved into what the world now knows as the Met Gala.
What looked like “culture” was actually ecosystem engineering.
And the same thing has happened repeatedly across innovation ecosystems globally.
The Real Engine Behind Strong Ecosystems
When you study countries that became globally productive, innovative, and economically influential, certain patterns consistently appear.
Governments, institutions, universities, and private sector leaders invested heavily in:
education
research and development
technical training
infrastructure
commercialization systems
startup ecosystems
visibility platforms
innovation funding
founder support systems
Countries like China, South Korea, Japan, Israel, and the United States did not simply hope talented people would emerge and succeed independently.
They built conditions that allowed talent to continuously produce value.
This is where institutions like:
research labs
accelerators
incubators
innovation hubs
policy-backed tech programs
technical universities
commercialization pipelines
ecosystem summits
startup grants
founder networks
become critically important.
These interventions may seem ordinary on the surface.
But over time, they compound into ecosystems.
That compounding effect is what many people underestimate.
The Difference Between Weak and Strong Ecosystems
One thing I also noticed while studying these countries is this:
Even when their founders, industrial leaders, or policymakers complained about talent gaps, the response was usually systemic.
The conversation became:
“How do we improve the structures producing these outcomes?”
not:
“Our people are hopeless.”
That difference matters.
Because ecosystems decline when criticism becomes identity.
But ecosystems improve when criticism becomes:
diagnosis
research
experimentation
institutional response
strategic problem solving
Japan responded to quality concerns with manufacturing systems like Kaizen and Total Quality Management.
China responded to innovation concerns with massive investments in STEM education, infrastructure, manufacturing, and R&grin.
Israel responded to economic limitations with startup incentives and innovation-focused policy.
Silicon Valley expanded because universities, government funding, venture capital, and founders formed interconnected systems that continuously supported experimentation.
The pattern repeats itself everywhere.
Strong ecosystems do not deny problems.
They organize around solving them.
The Nigerian Contradiction
Nigeria presents a very interesting contradiction.
We have:
brilliant talent
creative energy
entrepreneurial adaptability
one of the youngest populations in the world
globally competitive individuals across multiple sectors
Yet many of our conversations about local ecosystems are dominated by frustration, cynicism, and external validation.
Many Nigerian talents optimize toward foreign opportunities because global systems often provide:
better incentives
stronger infrastructure
higher compensation
more stability
clearer growth pathways
At the same time, many founders and ecosystem leaders operate in difficult environments with:
inconsistent infrastructure
limited institutional support
funding gaps
fragmented collaboration systems
So naturally, tension emerges.
Talents see local systems as stepping stones.
Founders feel unsupported and overwhelmed.
Trust weakens.
Everybody begins optimizing individually rather than institutionally.
The result is what I would describe as a “transit ecosystem”:
People pass through it.
Few truly build for long-term compounding within it.
But I believe this framing is incomplete.
Because beneath the noise, something important is already happening.
The Interventions Quietly Shaping Nigeria’s Future
Across Nigeria and particularly in ecosystems like Enugu, there are emerging interventions that deserve far more attention than they currently receive.
Initiatives like:
innovation hubs
local accelerators
technical bootcamps
startup showcases
ecosystem convenings
AI communities
incubation programs
founder networks
commercialization-focused summits
may appear small individually.
But this is exactly how ecosystems begin.
Slowly.
Structurally.
Repeatedly.
The Enugu Tech Festival, for example, is gradually evolving beyond the idea of “just another tech event.”
It is becoming:
a talent pipeline
a commercialization platform
an investor-founder bridge
a visibility system
a policy conversation
a collaboration infrastructure
This matters.
Because sustainable ecosystems are not built only through unicorn startups.
They are built through repeated opportunities for:
learning
experimentation
collaboration
exposure
commercialization
funding access
talent development
The same applies to innovation labs, accelerator programs, startup communities, AI initiatives, university innovation programs, and ecosystem partnerships emerging across Nigeria today.
These are not side activities.
They are infrastructure.
Why Incentives Matter More Than Motivation
One major realization I’ve had is this:
People respond to incentives more consistently than they respond to motivational speeches.
If the best opportunities, compensation, prestige, and infrastructure consistently exist outside a country, people will naturally optimize outward.
That is not necessarily a moral failure.
It is often a systems outcome.
Which means ecosystem transformation requires more than inspiration.
It requires:
long-term institutional thinking
policy continuity
R&grin investment
infrastructure development
commercialization systems
trust-building
strategic collaboration
prestige creation around local contribution
Because no ecosystem scales sustainably when its brightest people see participation as sacrifice.
The Bigger Question
Perhaps the real question Nigeria should be asking is not:
“Why are people leaving?”
But:
“What conditions make people believe building locally is worth it?”
Because history shows that globally respected ecosystems were not built overnight.
Somebody funded experimentation.
Somebody built institutions.
Somebody reduced friction.
Somebody created prestige systems.
Somebody supported research before profitability existed.
Somebody intentionally developed pipelines for talent and innovation.
That is how ecosystems compound.
And while Nigeria still has significant structural challenges, I believe we may be underestimating the importance of the interventions already taking shape around us.
Every globally respected ecosystem once looked incomplete.
The difference was consistency.
And perhaps that is the stage we are entering now.

Idemili North Mayor, Chief (Hon.) Stanley Nkwoka (Ochendo Global), is driven by service, and he'll stop at nothing until results are achieved. He is fully aware of the huge task before him. He knows his onions. He is grounded and has been around for several years. He is not your regular politician. He's here to serve the good and productive people of Idemili North.

He's now the Executive Chairman (Mayor) of the most populous and densely populated Council Area in Southeastern Nigeria. He is no longer that "Mr Stanley Nkwoka" you used to know. God has shown him mercy. Stop looking down on him. That office he's occupying must be respected. Encourage and support his administration. Help him to succeed. He has shown capacity in several ways. He has proved his mettle. He doesn't need your validation to showcase his God-given talent.

Enough of this Pull Him Syndrome (PHD). It is Ochendo's o'clock. It is his time to reign and shine. Let's wait for our turns. Uwa bu turn bu turn. Onye ligolu si kubalu ya aka. If you must criticize, let it be constructive. Don't join anyone to attack, blackmail, humiliate, or disparage a man who has done you no wrong. It could be you tomorrow.

Let us always think of what we will do for our dear local government area and not what Idemili North will do for us. Ochendo Global has placed the Council area on the path of progress. Let's join him in his onerous task of rebranding and moving it to the next level. No amount of negative criticism and scheming will quench that fire, which God has ignited.

Solution is here full time.

Long live Ochendo Global
Long live Idemili North Local Government Area
Long live Anambra State.

Prepare To Be The Villain: Ochendo's Lot In Idemili North Local Government Area

By Mmaduabuchi Onwumelu , KSJI, anipr

According to Samira Vivette, an Australian author and poet known for contemporary poetry, she said and I quote: "Prepare to be the villain in their story for finally standing up for yourself. Be prepared for those who exploited your kindness to change the narrative to suit them. The tables have turned. Now you stand tall. You will not be walked over anymore." she opined

The above quote and analogy actually depicted the true situation and position Chief (Hon) Stanley Chigbo Nkwoka (Ochendo Global), the helmsman of the most populous and densely populated Council Area in Southeastern Nigeria found himself in. It carefully and unambiguously explained the lot's of the Umulichi Ogbu Abatete born emerging political juggernaut, icon, and leader.

Before Chief (Hon) Stanley Nkwoka, KSJI (Ochendo Global) assumed office as the Executive Chairman of Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra on October 4 2024, he has already prepared himself for the enormous tasks ahead of him and for him to achieve his set objectives and ultimate goals of reshaping and giving life back to the hitherto stuck and directionless Council he must be decisive and ruthless in his decision makings, which tends to bruise some egos along the line.

While naysayers were still battling with the reality of his emergence as the number one citizen of Idemili North, he has already prepared himself to damn all the attending consequences emanating from his populist's decision and actions knowing full well that a few individuals whose egos before now have always been massaged would certainly paint a villain's story of him and his activities. He knows right from the outset that for him to get the jobs done, a few toes that might pose as a cog in the wheel of him serving Ndi Idemili North better must be stepped on, and some feathers ruffled.

The circumstances surrounding Chief Nkwoka's emergence and his subsequent election as the Mayor of the one of the toughest and the most intriguing local government area in Nigeria, is enough to prove to the people that God's ways can never be the ways of mere mortals. According to Him, "I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion." - Romans 9:15 (Onye Chukwu ya emelu ebere ka oya emelu ebere). God doesn't need anyone's permission to lift someone from nothing to something.

His victory in the last APGA's Mayoral primary election further proved and elucidated that Biblical injunction that "It is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that showeth mercy.” - Romans 9:16.

Mayor Nkwoka is a respected title holder in his community Abatete (He is known and addressed as Idi Akusinachi) and equally a member of the Ancient and Noble Order of Knights of Saint John International (KSJI), what it means is that he has both ecclesiastical, celestial and ancestrial blessings to serve and lead the good and productive people of Idemili North to eldorado.

Ochendo Global and the Burden of Leadership in Idemili North

By Mmaduabuchi Onwumelu , KSJI, anipr

Leadership often comes with resistance, criticism, and difficult decisions, especially when reform challenges entrenched interests. This reality appears to define the political journey of the Executive Chairman of Idemili North Local Government Area, Chief (Hon.) Stanley Chigbo Nkwoka, popularly known as Ochendo Global.

A popular quote by Australian author and poet, Samira Vivette, captures this situation succinctly: “Prepare to be the villain in their story for finally standing up for yourself… The tables have turned. Now you stand tall. You will not be walked over anymore.”

For many observers, the quote reflects the experiences of Chief Nkwoka since assuming office on October 4, 2024, as chairman of one of the most populous and politically complex local government areas in Southeastern Nigeria.

Before taking office, the Abatete-born politician had reportedly prepared himself for the enormous responsibilities associated with repositioning the council. Those close to him say he understood that achieving meaningful reforms would require firm decisions capable of upsetting established interests and bruising powerful egos.

Despite criticisms trailing his emergence and style of leadership, supporters insist that Nkwoka remains focused on his vision of restoring direction and effectiveness to the administration of Idemili North.

Political observers note that from the onset of his administration, the chairman appeared determined to pursue policies he considered beneficial to the people, irrespective of opposition from individuals uncomfortable with change. According to his associates, he was fully aware that decisive leadership would inevitably attract backlash and conflicting narratives from critics.

Nkwoka’s emergence as chairman during the APGA mayoral primary election and his eventual victory at the polls were viewed by supporters as remarkable political developments that defied expectations in a highly competitive political environment.

Many of his loyalists have continued to describe his political rise as a testament to divine favour and destiny, citing the biblical passage in Romans 9:16: “It is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that showeth mercy.”

Beyond politics, Chief Nkwoka holds traditional recognition in his community of Abatete, where he bears the title “Idi Akusinachi.” He is also a member of the Noble Order of Knights of Saint John International (KSJI), affiliations his supporters say reflect both his cultural roots and religious commitments.

To admirers and political allies, Ochendo Global represents a leader determined to chart a new course for Idemili North, regardless of opposition. To critics, his assertive leadership style may remain contentious. But in the calculations of his supporters, the challenges and criticisms are merely part of the price of leadership and reform.

PoliticsRestoring Facts, Law, And Responsible Governance In Idemili North by Buchi2023(op): 12:42pm On Apr 28
RESTORING FACTS, LAW, AND RESPONSIBLE GOVERNANCE IN IDEMILI NORTH

The document titled “Ten Issues Arising from Hon. Stanley Nkwoka’s Feeble Defence” is, in itself, a politically charged misrepresentation that attempts to cloak recklessness in the language of constitutional rights. While it raises questions, it deliberately ignores critical facts, distorts legal principles, and undermines the very institutions it claims to defend.

This response sets the record straight.

1. Lawful Communication Is Not Limited to Paper Delivery

The attempt to dismiss a security advisory simply because it was transmitted via WhatsApp is both outdated and misleading. In today’s administrative and security environment, digital communication is widely used for urgent notifications.

The real issue is not the medium, but the authority behind the message. Once a directive originates from a constituted authority responsible for maintaining peace, it cannot be casually ignored on technical grounds when public safety is at stake.

2. Local Authorities Have Responsibility Over Public Order

While it is correct that a local government chairman is not above the law, it is equally true that he has a statutory responsibility to maintain peace and order within his jurisdiction.

Public gatherings especially politically sensitive ones are not conducted in a vacuum. Where credible intelligence or rising tension exists, local authorities are expected to act proactively to prevent breakdown of law and order. Ignoring such responsibility would be dereliction of duty.

3. “Chief Security Officer” Reflects Coordinating Responsibility

The criticism of the phrase “Chief Security Officer” is semantic rather than substantive. While operational command lies with security agencies, elected officials at the local level play a coordinating and advisory role in security management.

They are expected to:

Liaise with security agencies

Issue warnings where necessary

Take preventive measures in the interest of peace

Dismissing this role entirely is a misunderstanding of how governance and security coordination function in practice.

4. Security Concerns Must Be Taken Seriously, Not Politicized

The rebuttal document trivializes security intelligence by framing it as “political convenience.” This is dangerous.

Security warnings are not issued for entertainment. Once tension is identified, the responsible course of action is de-escalation, not defiance. Proceeding with a politically charged gathering against advisory warnings reflects poor judgment and disregard for public safety.

5. The Questionable Nature of the Security Presence

A critical issue deliberately downplayed is the nature of the so called “security personnel” present at the event.

Reports indicate the presence of fierce looking, unidentified, non-uniformed armed men carrying AK-47 rifles. This raises serious legal and security concerns:

Were they personnel of any recognized security agency?

If so, why were they not properly identified or in uniform?

Under whose authority were they deployed?

In Nigeria, the lawful bearing of such weapons is strictly regulated. The presence of unidentified armed individuals at a political gathering is not normal it is provocative and destabilizing.

6. Security Presence Does Not Excuse Irregular Armed Actors

While official security presence is legitimate, unverified armed actors are not. Attempting to normalize or justify such presence under the guise of “event security” is deeply troubling.

If anything, such a development would reasonably heighten tensions and justify intervention by authorities to prevent escalation.

7. Responsibility Includes Avoiding Predictable Conflict

The argument that “lawful activity must proceed regardless of threats” is idealistic but incomplete. Leadership requires prudence, not provocation.

When credible warnings exist, responsible actors are expected to:

Engage authorities

Adjust plans

Avoid actions that may trigger violence

Insisting on proceeding under volatile conditions shifts from exercising rights to inviting confrontation.

8. Authority Must Be Respected Alongside Rights

Rights and authority are not mutually exclusive they are complementary. While citizens have rights to association and political participation, authorities have a duty to ensure such activities do not endanger lives.

Undermining lawful directives from constituted authority weakens governance and creates a precedent for disorder.

9. The Real Issue Is Public Safety, Not Political Fear

The suggestion that the intervention was driven by fear of political relevance is speculative and unsupported.

Governance decisions especially those relating to security must be assessed based on risk management, not political narratives. Elevating every preventive action into a conspiracy undermines public trust in institutions.

10. Institutions Must Be Strengthened, Not Undermined

The so-called “ten issues” ultimately promote a dangerous line of thinking:

That security advisories can be ignored

That unidentified armed presence is acceptable

That authority should be questioned only when inconvenient

This erodes institutional order.

The correct democratic approach remains:

Respect lawful authority

Verify and coordinate with security agencies

Avoid actions capable of triggering violence

Allow institutions to investigate and act where necessary

CONCLUSION

This matter is not about suppressing political ambition. It is about ensuring that political activities are conducted within the bounds of law, order, and public safety.

No individual’s political aspiration is more important than the peace of the community.

Where there are allegations of threats, intimidation, or unlawful armed presence, the appropriate course is not media argument but formal investigation by the Nigerian Police and relevant security agencies.

Until then, attempts to recast a security intervention as political persecution remain speculative, selective, and ultimately unconvincing.

Following the purportedly circulated removal of Reverend Father Prof. Edwin S.C Obiorah, JSD, SAN, as the Chancellor of Tansian University, Umunya, Anambra State, Nigeria, and the reported sack of the Pro-Chancellor, Prof. Ellis Idemobi, the Tansian University Management has come out publicly to discountenance the report, describing it as false, infantile, malicious and laughable, stating that the author of the said removal and sack letter , Rev. Daniel Igwilo, has since 3rd June, 2025 ceased to be the Registrar of the citadel of learning.

This was contained in a strong worded statement jointly signed by the Vice-Chancellor of Tansian University, Umunya, Anambra State, Nigeria, Professor Eugene Nwadialor and the Registrar and Secretary to Council, Rev. Dr. Innocent Anthony Uke and made available to newsmen in Awka.

The statement read in part, 'Public Notice On Rev. Daniel Igwilo - Onetime Registrar of Tansian University. A substantive Registrar was duly appointed with effect from the same date. Subsequently, Rev. Daniel Igwilo's appointment as a staff of Tansian University was terminated on 10th April, 2026.

'The University unequivocally dissociates itself from any actions, representations or transactions undertaken by Rev. REBUTTAL TO MISLEADING PUBLICATION ON THE LEADERSHIP OF TANSIAN UNIVERSITY

The attention of the Board of Trustees of Tansian University has been drawn to a publication making rounds which seeks to misrepresent the leadership structure of Tansian University and to malign the person and reputation of Very Rev. Fr. Prof. Edwin S.C. Obiorah JSD SAN.

We categorically state, without any ambiguity or reservation, that the leadership of Tansian University is not in dispute in any form whatsoever. Any attempt to suggest otherwise is false, misleading, and clearly intended to create unnecessary confusion and disaffection among stakeholders and the public.

For the avoidance of doubt, Very Rev. Fr. Prof. Edwin S.C. Obiorah JSD SAN remains the duly recognized, legitimate, and lawful Chancellor/ Chairman Board of Trustees of Tansian University. His position is valid, subsisting, and fully backed by the appropriate institutional and legal frameworks governing the University.

The allegations contained in the said publication are not only unsubstantiated but bear the clear markings of mischief, distortion, and deliberate character assassination. They fail to meet even the most basic standards of credibility and should therefore be disregarded in its entirety.

Very Rev. Fr. Prof. Edwin S.C. Obiorah JSD SAN is a man of impeccable character, widely respected for his integrity, intellectual depth, and unwavering commitment to academic excellence and institutional development. His contributions to the growth and stability of Tansian University, as well as his broader service in academia and society, speak volumes and cannot be diminished by baseless claims.

Furthermore, it is important to emphasize that institutional governance matters must be understood within their proper legal and administrative context. Sensational reports built on speculation, selective narratives, or undisclosed interests do not constitute facts and should not be treated as such.

We therefore urge the general public, stakeholders, and the academic community to disregard the said publication and any similar narratives that seek to undermine the stability and leadership of Tansian University.

Tansian University remains committed to its founding vision, academic excellence, and principled leadership under the rightful stewardship of Very Rev. Fr. Prof. Edwin S.C. Obiorah JSD SAN as Chancellor and Chairman of the Board of Trustees.

The leadership of Tansian University stands firm, clear, and undisputed.

Soludo’s Effect: Idemili North Mayor Renames Popular Limca Road Nkpor After Ex-Commonwealth Secretary-General, Chief Emeka Anyaoku

... Says He's Replicating Governor's Footsteps In Council Area

By Mmaduabuchi Onwumelu

The Mayor, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, Chief Stanley Nkwoka (Ochendo Global), on Wednesday, 18th March 2026, renamed the popular Limca Road Nkpor after the former Commonwealth Secretary-General, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, an Illustrious son of Obosi.

Speaking at the event, held at the popular Nkpor Junction end of the road to officially rename it, the Mayor, Idemili North LGA, Chief Stanley Nkwoka, said the exercise serves as a reminder of Anyaoku’s selfless contributions to the community and to inspire the youths to strive for greatness.

'I am following the Governor's footsteps in Idemili North. Governor Soludo is the one I am following, and I am unapologetic about it. Some of these decisions I am taking may not augur well with some people, but we just have to march on. I am replicating Governor's footsteps in the council area. He leads, we follow.

'We took this decision a long time ago but waited for the Governor of Anambra State to act first, which he did by renaming the road leading to the new government house after Chief Emeka Anyaoku. We stayed action because we do not want to be faster than our shadows,' the people-oriented Mayor explained.

With the renaming, the strategic Limca Road connecting Awka Old Road, Nkpor Junction, Onitsha-Awka-Enugu Expressway, and Obosi-Umuoji Road, among others, will now be known as “Ichie Emeka Anyaoku Road.”

Chief Nkwoka said the LG embarked on the journey of honouring the former Commonwealth secretary-general to inspire future generations to emulate his values, work ethic, and commitment to excellence.

He noted that the renaming of the road passed through legislative processes at the council, and it was adopted and passed into law.

He said, 'We are celebrating Anyaoku today by renaming the Limca Road to ‘Ichie Emeka Anyaoku Road’, because he is a great example to society. He is being held in high esteem across the world for his contributions to the community, nation, and international affairs.

'Time has passed when we celebrated those with blemished characters or those who sprayed money in public spaces. The LG embarked on the journey of honouring the former Commonwealth secretary-general so as to inspire future generations to emulate his values, work ethic, and commitment to excellence.

'We are going to erect a bold signboard to give people the direction that the road has been renamed. Anyaoku is the first person we are recognising as a local government official because of his service to the people and the community. This honour by his community is necessary even though the diplomat has received several global recognitions.

'Although the former Commonwealth secretary-general has received several global honours and recognitions, we are honouring this great son of Idemili by naming this road after him as a fitting tribute to his legacy, achievements, and contributions to our communities and the world. We are all proud of this great son of Idemili.'

Also speaking, the former Minister of Aviation, Chief Osita Chidoka, described Anyaoku, an indigene of Obosi in Idemili, as a man worthy of emulation.

Chidoka noted that Anyaoku not only served as a Commonwealth secretary-general, but he did the job without any blemish, adding that even the Queen of England confirmed his integrity.

'What is important is that we have to bring the next Emeka Anyaoku out of this community. Anambra State cannot be defined by people with blemished character but by people with integrity. Anyaoku served as a Commonwealth secretary-general without any blemish to the extent that the Queen of England confirmed his integrity.

'With this honour, youths and children will be encouraged, and when they hear the name of the road in the future, they will be reminded that there was a man from this community who made us proud.

'Renaming the road after him is a fitting tribute to his legacy, and we celebrate his life, achievements, and contributions to our communities and the world. Indeed, we are all proud of this great son of Idemili,' Chidoka added.

Responding, Anyaoku, who was represented at the ceremony by the President-General, Obosi Development Union Worldwide, Ambassador Chimezie Obi, appreciated the LGA for the honour, describing it as the “most cherished” among the recognitions he has received.

Obi said the recognition is well deserved as Anyaoku’s contributions to the community, nation, and the world at large remain immeasurable.

He said, 'Chief Emeka Anyaoku,' the ‘Adazie Ogulana Obosi’, is a name that resonates with excellence, integrity, and statesmanship. His contributions to our community, nation, and the world at large are immeasurable.

'Anyaoku has continued to make us proud. As a world statesman, Ichie Emeka Anyaoku has received numerous accolades and honours from Nigeria and numerous other countries around the world. This prestigious honour and many other accolades are a testament to his dedication, wisdom, and leadership in the world.

'As we embark on this journey of honouring Ichie Emeka Anyaoku, we inspire future generations to emulate his values, work ethic, and commitment to excellence. We celebrate the life and legacy of Ichie Emeka Anyaoku. May this road serve as a reminder of his contributions, and may it inspire us to strive for greatness.' he concluded.

In their separate speeches, the Deputy Mayor of Idemili North, Hon. Lady Phina Onwuachu (Nmaluluno); the leader of Idemili North Legislative Council, Hon. Arinzechukwu Samuel Anikpe (Wester, Oyinatumba), the Secretary to Idemili North Council, Hon. Engr. Paul Okoye (IkekanaChukwu), the representative of the traditional ruler of Obosi, Igwe Chidubem Iweka III, the former Member representing Idemili North State Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Tony One-Week Muonagor (Onyechimelueze), took their time to eulogized the incumbent Mayor for taking such a bold, tough and remarkable decision, stating that he had done what others before him could not think of or dream of doing, adding that the singular decision had endeared him more to the people's hearts and had automatically shore up his fanbase, admirers and supporters.

The event, which was anchored by Hon. Tony One-Week Muonagor had people from all walks of life, including the Councillors, APGA Idemili North Wards Chairmen, Women's leaders, party faithful, titled men, community leaders, youths in attendance.

Sit-at-home: Anambra Loses Over 8 Billion Naira Every Monday - Uba

....Hails Soludo for Constructing Access Roads in All Major Markets, Clearing Refuse Dump in Ochanja Roundabout

By Mmaduabuchi Onwumelu

Following an end to Monday Sit-at-home in Anambra State, the Special Adviser to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Trade and Markets, Hon. Evarist Uba says the state, before now, loses over 8 billion Naira every Monday.

The Special Adviser who stated this in his office in Awka while fielding questions from newsmen commended the Governor for constructing access roads in all the major markets in the state, saying that with the measures being put in place by Gov Soludo to end the monster, in no distant time, Monday Sit-at-home would be thing of the past.

He noted that the shutting down of Onitsha Main Market and Nnewi Auto Spare Parts Market and the re-opening of them have sent strong warnings to other traders in other markets that similar punishment could be meted out to them if they fail to comply.

Reeling his achievements since he was appointed into the position in 2023, Chief Uba said peace has been restored across all the markets since the Governor took over the mantle of leadership, noting that he came into the office following the resignation of the former Commissioner for commerce, trade and industry, Hon. Chimaobi Ngonadi.

'Shortly after his resignation, the Ministry was divided, and the Trade and Markets were separated from industry. When I took over, I tried to attend to the problems and issues due to the fact that I was the one time Chairman of Onitsha North local government area.

'Before I came in, there have been some markets that have caretaker committee members, so I maintained them. And
I said if you are good and you are handling the markets well, you stay put, if you are not handling the markets well, we remove you,' Chief Uba stated.

The SPAD reiterated that the previous caretaker committee members in the markets turned it into political offices, but he developed a policy that caretaker committee chairmen must be traders in those markets. And not only being traders in those markets but traders with identifiable shops.

'Because if you are a trader in that market, you should be able to know the issues your fellow traders have, and protect the traders you are suprintending and also carry out any government directives in terms of collection of government revenues to avoid some traders trying to evade paying the appropriate revenues despite having the money,' he said.

The Ex-Council Boss noted that Gov Soludo has tried in terms of assuaging the problems of the traders, stressing that when he came on board, one of the pillars of his government was to make Anambra State a destination point and no longer a departure lounge. And also a pleasurable place for people to come, trade, shop and enjoy, which necessitated the creation of access roads to major markets in the state.

He announced that Gov Soludo cleared a huge refuse dump at Ochanja Roundabout and put a water fountain there, adding that Mr Governor constructed Iweka Road to Moore Street to Main Market, from Bridgehead to Niger Street to Sokoto Road to Main Market, and these access roads were done to enable traders have access to Main Market that used to be blocked during market days and festive seasons.

He added that Mr Governor constructed Bank Road, Nnewi which transverses the Nnewi Auto Spare Parts Market and Adili Hotel Road to Building Materials Road, and everybody is very happy with what the governor is doing.

Hon.Uba further stated that the ongoing demolition of Onitsha Main Market is in tandem with Gov Soludo's mantra,"if you cannot park, you cannot shop".

'You cannot even drive from Old Market road to Main Market on a market day, because the whole place is always blocked. It is only a strong person that can park about half kilometer away and then take a tricycle and get close to Main Market and not right inside the Main Market".

He also disclosed that Gov Soludo wants to construct parks at Main Market so that things would be properly done, and also put a stop to disappearance of some wheelbarrow pushers with the goods of some traders during festive seasons.

On the issue of relocation of Special Markets in Anambra State, Chief Evarist Uba said Anambra State has relocated three (3)markets to new sites. Namely: 8 unions of Iron Dealers have been moved to KM 8 Onitsha -Enugu Expressway,Umunya,Shoe Dealers have been moved to Nkwerre-Ezunaka, and Foods and Vegetables Market, which used to be close to Army Barracks, has been moved to Ogbaru market.

Uba equally noted that Anambra State government would soon enact a new Anambra State Market Law which would help to bring sanity and orderliness in the markets just like the Anambra State Homeland Security Law 2025.

Community Youths Declare 4 Days Mourning over Members Death in Auto Crash

By Mmaduabuchi Onwumelu

Umuezeanya Youth Association of Umuoba Anam has declared four days mourning over the sudden death of their active member, late Mr. Ezebuilo Ikwegbuo in a car crash.

Ikwegbuo, an illustrious member of the association, died on Sunday night in a car crash along Otuocha-Nkwelle road in Anambra East Local Government Area of Anambra State.

He was returning from a burial ceremony of the father of Mr Alias Okaa Ogolo, former chairman of Umuezeanya Youth Association, when his vehicle somersaulted and crashed into road side valley.

An official statement jointly signed by chairman, Secretary and PRO of Umuezeanya Youth, Chief Olisemeka Obeche, Osita Nneke and Augustine Okafor, explained that declaration of the four day mourning period from 9th-12th March, 2026 was to honour the deceased who was one of the most vibrant members of the association.

'Ezebuilo Ikwegbuo, one of our most vibrant and active members, tragically lost his life in a fatal motor accident over the weekend.

'The incident, which occurred along the Otuocha-Nkwelle road, has plunged the association, the entire village, and indeed Umuoba Anam community into deep sorrow.

'We consider him as one of the key pillars of Umuezeanya youth movement. His energy and commitment to unity and progress of the association were unparalleled.

The statement further disclosed that as a mark of respect, the association has suspended social activities within its platform during the four days mourning period.

'We have put everything on hold till this mourning period is over, for we have lost a brother, a leader, a voice for a reason and major contributor to our progress.

'Ezebuilo's death is not just a loss to his immediate family but to the entire Umuezeanya youth and village as well as Umuoba Anam kingdom,' Obeche explained.

While mourning their fallen comrade, the association has used this moment of grief to draw the attention of the Anambra State Government to the deplorable state of the 3-3-Nkwelle-Otuocha road.

According to eyewitnesses, the accident that claimed the life of their member was caused by the poor condition of the road, specifically citing deep potholes and lack of adequate lighting, which have made the road a death trap for commuters.

'We cannot continue to bury our youths on this road. The government has talked about dualising this axis, but the time for talk is over. We need action now,' the association lamented.

'Umuezeanya Youth Association is specifically calling on Governor Chukwuma Soludo to expedite action on the proposed dualization and rehabilitation of the 3-3-Nkwelle-Otuocha road.

'While we acknowledged recent announcements regarding plans to unlock the traffic gridlock in the area, we are concerned over the slow pace of action in fixing the road. We therefore call on the Solution Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo to fast-track the project to prevent further loss of lives.

'We plead that this project be treated as an emergency. While we await the full dualization, we urge the state to immediately intervene with palliative
measures on the worst-hit portions to make the road motorable.'

The association noted that the road serves as a critical economic lifeline for communities in the area, and its current state is crippling local businesses and endangering lives daily.

They expressed hope that the government would heed their call and ensure that no other family experiences the pain they are currently enduring.

Over 200 Disengaged AiRS Staff Send SOS to Soludo, Seek Justice, Accuse Oyeka of Mastermindind Their Exit, Say She's Ex-Chairman's Spouse, Want Her Appointment Terminated

By Mmaduabuchi Onwumelu

Over 200 disengaged Anambra State Internal Revenue Service (AIRS) have cried out to the Executive Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Soludo to come to their aid, stating that they were pushed out to the streets without nothing, pleading with the Governor to look into their plight and addressed their concerns.

The stranded staff, including the Community Revenue Officers (CROs), noted that they were treated unfairly and made to leave the service without any tangible alternative.

The group accused Mrs Amara Oyeka of destabilising the office and masterminding their exit. 'Her name is Amara kate Oyeka. She presented by the former Chairman to be appointed as the SSA to Gov Soludo on IGR (Technical).

'Oyeka is now currently appointed the Executive Director, Direct Tax Assessment at the Revenue House. We, the affected staff, are calling on the Governor to look into the appointment. Bearing in mind, she was the wife of the former AiRS Chairman. She is the wife of the former chairman. Both of them hid it, but we know. Is it not deceit? The former chairman smuggled in his wife and facilitated an SSA appointment for her.

'She is not supposed to remain there. Her appointment should be terminated. She caused the whole problems. She dealt with us and should be punished.

The workers were disengaged after failing a strategic tax administration examination conducted in collaboration with consulting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) as part of efforts to revamp and professionalise the state’s revenue collection system.

Following the examination results, an internal memo from the Administration Department of AIRS, dated February 18, 2026, and signed by Nwalusi Ifeanyi on behalf of the Chairman and Chief Executive, directed the disengagement of Community Revenue Officers (CROs) and other staff who failed to meet the required pass mark in the computer-based test.

The memo, circulated to the affected workers, instructed them to surrender all official materials, including identity cards and work tools, to the Administration and Human Resources Department, with the retrenchment taking effect immediately after the handover process.

However, some of the affected workers have appealed for the governor’s intervention, noting that many of them had served the agency for several years. They also alleged unfair treatment and unprofessional conduct by the consulting firm and some members of the state revenue management.

The workers argued that the examination was a new experience for many staff members and suggested that supplementary training and professional development programmes would have been a more effective way to achieve the revenue service’s reform objectives.

They also raised concerns about the assessment process, pointing out that ongoing tax administration reforms across the country emphasise operational autonomy for state revenue agencies in the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

A source within AIRS, who identified himself as Chukwuebuka Okeke, criticised the restructuring approach adopted by the state’s revenue service, saying reforms should focus on strengthening professionalism, setting clear performance targets, improving remuneration and encouraging professional certification.

According to him, the engagement of PwC to restructure AIRS was initially intended to make the agency more autonomous in line with Nigeria’s evolving tax administration framework.

'All these issues started when the government hired PricewaterhouseCoopers to restructure the Anambra Internal Revenue Service and make it autonomous. We are aware that Nigeria’s new tax law requires revenue services to be autonomous and manage their own staff and salaries

'In other states, similar reforms were implemented smoothly. For instance, Enugu State introduced a new salary structure for revenue service workers, adding about ₦100,000 to their salaries and providing incentives for professional qualifications and meeting targets.

'In Anambra, however, PwC conducted an examination which led to the retrenchment of more than 100 Community Revenue Officers who had served for about seven years, while several core civil servants, including directors close to retirement, were redeployed,' he said.

Okeke described the exercise as unfair, noting that experienced directors nearing retirement were redeployed without any transition period. He also argued that the examination administered to the CROs was not directly relevant to their primary duties and that the workers should have been given time to acquire relevant certifications.

He further alleged that administrative issues, including appointments made by the immediate past chairman of the agency, contributed to the current challenges within AIRS.

'During his tenure, the former chairman introduced a woman as Senior Special Assistant on Technical Matters, presenting her simply as a professional with experience in revenue administration,'he said.

'The SSA was later discovered to be the chairman’s spouse. The relationship was not disclosed to the government or staff at the time of her appointment,” he alleged.

'Okeke said the development raised governance concerns within the agency, claiming that departmental heads were sidelined in decision-making, with the agency’s activities largely coordinated by the former chairman and his aide.

She allegedly manipulated revenue processes, sidelined department heads, and took key decisions, including hiring and firing staff. When PwC was brought in to restructure AIRS, she reportedly worked with them as a coordinator and was later appointed Director of Taxes,' he added.

Okeke and other disengaged workers therefore called on the state government to review the circumstances surrounding the restructuring exercise and consider recalling affected staff.

They also urged the governor to investigate the appointment of the SSA in order to restore transparency and confidence within the revenue agency.

Reacting in a telephone interview, the Anambra State Commissioner for Finance, Okafor Moses Izuchukwu, whose ministry supervises AIRS, confirmed that the assessment exercise was part of the restructuring process and insisted that the affected staff failed to meet the required performance standard.

'Government gave the workers a chance to prove themselves through an examination. They wrote the aptitude test, but many of them failed. They were given a second chance to write the test, yet they still failed. I don’t think there should be any reason for complaint,' he said.

'Pointing accusing fingers does not change the fact that government must strengthen its systems and processes. For years, we have had situations where some staff do little yet continue to draw salaries.

'Those who passed the test and are likely to succeed in the interview stage will be retained. The process is still ongoing,'he added.

When contacted on the phone to ask for her reaction, Oyeka told this reporter to do her a text, which he did. She failed to respond and referred the reporter to the chairman and further said: 'Unfortunately, I am not the government and can't take such decisions ... please let them take their concerns directly to the government,' she said.

Chief Odili who made the call in his Aguleri country home while fielding questions from newsmen, noted that the exercise, which he said, started on the 5th of January 2026, would last until April 17th, 2026

‎ It would be recalled that Anambra State’s Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr. Queen Agwu of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) recently briefed the media on the import of the exercise.

Dr. Agwu noted that Anambra’s participation in the first four weeks was commendable on a national scale, saying that the figures reveal room for growth.

'The current data shows that a few thousands of new registrants have been enrolled across the state so far. It is important to understand that this CVR is a nationwide initiative, currently active in all states,' Dr. Agwu enthused.

Chief Odili also called on APGA members to update their membership registration which has gone digital now to avoid being disenfranchised. He commended the INEC’s efforts in Anambra, highlighting the significance of empowering 4,423 new individuals across the state’s 21 Local Government Areas, granting them the fundamental right to vote in the 2027 general elections and beyond.

'The INEC team in Anambra is performing commendably. We recognize that a similar exercise just six months ago successfully added 168,000 voters to our register. We applaud this continued service to our democracy. However, the focus now must shift to mobilization,' he said.

Chief Odili issued a direct appeal to a key demographic: 'I am specifically calling on every young adult who has come of voting age since the last election. Your participation is not just a right; it is a civic duty. By registering and voting, we demonstrate forward-thinking citizenship and directly shape the progressive future of our communities and our country."

He called upon all community stakeholders in Anambra North including youth and women leaders, ward chairmen, Presidents-General, councillors, Local Government Area chairmen, and clergy members to actively educate and encourage their constituents about the enduring benefits of the CVR.

‎Chief Odili outlined a practical incentive beyond the ballot box. “Your voter’s card is more than an electoral tool," he explained. "It serves as a valid and widely recognized form of identification for official transactions, making it an indispensable document for every Nigerian citizen."

‎ 'The opportunity is present, the timeline is clear, and the power to influence the future rests in this simple act of registration. For every unregistered eligible voter in Anambra, the path to civic participation and official identification begins at the nearest INEC registration center before April 17th. ‎Chief Odili equally extended the call to APGA members urging them to renew their membership with the new digital process while calling on new members to take advantage of the opportunity and become APGA members. God bless the federal republic of Nigeria. ‎May Anambra Continue to win,' he concluded.

Empowering Women: Ikenga Abiama Foundation Advocates for Greater Leadership Roles for Igbo Women

In a stirring call to action on International Women's Day, the Ikenga Abiama Dynasty Foundation of Igboland has lauded African women, particularly those from the Igbo ethnic group, for their vital role in sustainable development. The foundation's statement, delivered by Founder and Executive Director Amb. Dr. Uba Iwunwa, highlighted the significant contributions of women as architects of societal resilience, emphasizing their global impact beyond Nigeria or Africa.

The foundation's message underscores that sustainability encompasses much more than environmental stewardship; it also entails economic stability, social justice, and the preservation of cultural heritage. In this light, Igbo women are taking charge, pioneering initiatives ranging from regenerative agriculture practices in the Southeast to innovative business models within local markets. Their influence is evident in various sectors, including policymaking and academia, where they drive discussions on clean energy solutions and advocate for social reforms that uplift their communities.

However, Amb. Iwunwa voiced concern about the systemic marginalization of women in Africa, Nigeria, and particularly Igboland. "When the architects of our future are denied leadership positions, the very foundation of our society becomes precarious," she stated, underscoring the urgency of addressing gender disparities in decision-making roles.

Queen Ugobeze added to the conversation by pointing out the pressing need for women's inclusion in leadership roles that reflect their contributions to community development and sustainability. In response, the Ikenga Abiama Foundation is calling for immediate action to rectify the growing gender imbalance, urging both government and traditional institutions to dismantle the patriarchal barriers that inhibit women's ascent into leadership.

The foundation advocates for the Nigerian federal and state governments to implement legislation mandating that women occupy at least 35% of all appointed and elected positions, positioning such representation as vital for national security and effective governance. Furthermore, the foundation calls for a cultural renaissance in Igboland, promoting equal participation of women in decision-making, particularly within traditional councils.

The foundation strongly demands improved economic opportunities for women, including better land tenure, access to low-interest credit, and essential digital resources, ensuring that women can effectively scale their businesses and enhance their roles in society. Amb. Iwunwa emphasized that empowering women is not just a matter of equity but a strategic imperative for a sustainable future.

Senator Emma Anosike Emerges as Anambra APC State Chairman

Senator formerly representing Anambra North Senatorial District, Chief Emmanuel Obiajulu Anosike, has emerged as the new Chairman of the Anambra State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Anosike was elected through a consensus arrangement at the party’s state congress held on Tuesday in Awka, the Anambra state capital.

Alongside him, Chief J.C. Okeke was elected Vice Chairman, while Chief Obi Okpala assumed the role of Secretary of the party.

Announcing the outcome of the congress, the Chairman of the Anambra State Congress Committee and Returning Officer, Rear Admiral William Kayode (rtd), stated that the exercise was conducted in line with Articles 20 and 14 of the APC Constitution, which provide inter alia for the use of consensus in electing party officers.

“I, Rear Admiral William Kayode (rtd), Chairman of the Congress Committee and Returning Officer for the Anambra State chapter of the APC, hereby affirm that the congress was free, fair, and credible.

In fulfillment of the relevant provisions of Articles 20 and 14 of our party Constitution, Senator Emmanuel Anosike and other elected members of the State Executive Committee are hereby duly elected and returned,” he declared.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Congress Harmonization Committee and Director-General of the South-East Governors’ Forum, Senator Uche Ekwunife, explained that the adoption of a “basketing” and consensus approach was aimed at ensuring the emergence of credible and competent leaders capable of repositioning the party in the state.

She emphasized that the era of appointing party executives without due consideration for competence and capacity was over.

“Stakeholders at the ward and local government levels were fully engaged in the harmonization process. We invited representatives across all wards and local governments and, in line with constitutional provisions on consensus, agreed on a basketing arrangement to elect party members committed to the growth and progress of the party.

"We found Senator Emmanuel Anosike and his executive team fit and proper to manage the affairs of the party in the state,” she said.

Sequel, the immediate past executive committee of the party, led by Chief Basil Ejidike, was formally dissolved following a motion moved by Chief Olisa Metuh and seconded by Dr. Onuora Okonkwo, which was adopted through a voice vote.

In his acceptance speech, Senator Anosike described his election as a call to service and a responsibility to reposition and strengthen the party in Anambra State.

He assured members of an inclusive administration, emphasizing that no stakeholder would be sidelined under his leadership.

“We shall ensure that all members are carried along in the affairs of the party. I assure all party faithful that this marks a new dawn for the APC in Anambra State.

" I also express my gratitude to the Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodimma, for his leadership in managing the party in the region. As a party, we are committed to delivering President Ahmed Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections,” he stated.

In his valedictory remarks, the former State Chairman, Chief Basil Ejidike, who served for seven years, urged party members to rally behind the new executive committee.

He expressed confidence that the party would continue to grow from strength to strength under the new leadership.
