Fidelity Bank Plc, in conjunction with Justice, Development and Peace Caritas (JDPC), Awka Diocese, on Thursday, 14th August 2025, distributed different food items to over 1000 vulnerable people in Anambra State.

Speaking before the distribution of the items, the Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, His Lordship Most Reverend Paulinus Ezeokafor, said the gesture had been a ritual of the church, which it does every month, and every Easter it called Easter with the poor.

Identifying air, food, and shelter as essentials of life, he appreciated God for granting the bank the opportunity to meet the stomach needs of the people.

'I know there's nothing given to the people that would be enough to meet their needs.

He called on government and other spirited individuals to emulate the gesture, including providing jobs for the masses so they could cater for themselves

Each food pack contained staples such as garri, rice, beans, wheat, soup ingredients, beverages, milk, and seasonings, among others.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Nosa Orumwense, Regional Bank Head, Awka, noted that the initiative is part of the bank’s broader mission to combat hunger and improve living conditions in the communities it serves.

'As a socially responsible organization, we do not operate in isolation. Through our CSR initiatives, we support both the government and our host communities to provide relief to the less privileged,' he stated.

He further explained that the food bank program, which was launched in April 2023, has already distributed over 200,000 food packs across Nigeria.

'This initiative is one of several CSR programs by Fidelity Bank aimed at addressing pressing socio-economic challenges, particularly in light of the growing issue of food insecurity,” Dr. Orumwense added.

Earlier, the Executive Director of JDPC, Awka Diocese, Reverend Father Levi Ndubuisi Ukor, expressed gratitude to God Almighty for the gesture.

According to him, 'We're excited to partner with Fidelity Bank. This is the first time we're doing this kind of thing here.

'I'm so happy because there are so many people suffering from hunger. For the bank to decide to share foodstuffs to over 600 show they're concerned for them.

'We pray this relationship is sustained, especially as it has to do with the poor and vulnerable.

'My message to other banks and spirited individuals is for them to emulate this gesture in order to ameliorate the suffering of the people.

'A lot of people are dying of hunger because they don't want to afford to eat three times a day, while the sick ones don't have money to visit hospitals,' he concluded

For his part, the Mayor of Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State, Prince Chinedu Okafor, lauded the initiative, describing it as one of its kind, saying that he was happy that a financial institution like Fidelity Bank coming out to give to the vulnerable, adding that Fidelity Bank remained his bank and that of the Anambra State government.

He commended Bishop Ezeokafor as well as JDPC Awka Diocese for all the Diocese is doing for the poor in society .

Anambra ICT Agency Reaffirms Commitment to Inclusive Digital Governance

The Anambra State ICT Agency has restated its commitment to creating a digitally inclusive environment where Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) can access and benefit from government services without barriers.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of Anambra State ICT Agency, Angela Nwanodu and made available to Newsmen in Awka.

Speaking when the Anambra State Disability Rights Commission (ADRC), in partnership with the Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption (RoLAC) programme, paid an advocacy visit to his office, the Managing Director/CEO of the ICT Agency, Chukwuemeka Fred Agbata, underscored the Soludo administration’s determination to make governance work for all, including PWDs.

Mr. Agbata noted that intentional inclusion is a key part of the Governor’s technology-driven vision for the state which is why the commission recently received a wide range of digital tools to enhance their productivity.

“Technology is only truly impactful when it works for everyone, regardless of physical ability.

We are committed to removing digital barriers and making our platforms accessible to all residents of Anambra State,” he said.

CFA also disclosed that the Agency will take immediate steps to appoint a Disability Desk Officer, work with the commission to ensure that all government ICT platforms are designed to meet accessibility standards, and as well as incorporate PWD-friendly features into ongoing upgrades of the SolutionLens feedback platform.

The visit also featured presentations from ADRC’s Head of ICT, Mr. Bonaventure Umeokwonna, who outlined the Commission’s priorities, and RoLAC representatives, who pledged continued support for building capacity and strengthening the policy framework for inclusion.

Mr. Valentine Nwachukwu, Head of Planning, Research and Statistics at the Commission, gave the vote of thanks, commending the ICT Agency’s openness to collaboration.

The Anambra State ICT Agency continues to work closely with ministries, departments, and agencies to deepen digital transformation in the state, ensuring that no segment of society is left behind.

NEWMAP-EIB and Great Green Wall Forge Stronger Ties on Watershed Management and degraded Land Restoration

The National Project Coordinator of the Nigeria Climate Adaptation – Erosion and Watershed Project (NEWMAP-EIB), Engr. Ayuba Anda Yalaks, Monday paid a courtesy visit to the National Agency for the Great Green Wall (NAGGW) in order to deepen collaboration of the project’s effort in watershed management, combat land degradation, and promote environmental sustainability.

During the visit, Engr. Yalaks congratulated the Director General of NAGGW, Alhaji Saleh Abubakar, MFR, on the successful hosting of the 10th Anniversary of the Great Green Wall, recently observed in Dutse, Jigawa State. He described the anniversary as “highly impactful and a strong testament to the Agency’s leadership role in environmental restoration.”

He also commended the Director General and the Agency for initiating a five-year strategic plan to plant date palm (Dabino) trees across the NAGGW’s shelter belt corridor of the Sahel — a project designed to enhance livelihoods, strengthen food security, biodiversity, ecosystem restoration, green jobs, food security and to ensure a long-term sustainability and developing resilience of the impacted communities along the belt.

He further alluded to the fact that the "Great Green Wall is not just a Wall of Trees across the Sahel but a Wall of Hope, Security, Green jobs opportunities, Economic growth, and peace development".

Under the guidance and leadership of Mallam Balarabe Abbas Lawal, the Minister for Environment; the National Coordinator highlighted NEWMAP-EIB’s mandate— funded by the European Investment Bank with a five-year lifespan — is dedicated to climate change adaptation, erosion control and flood management, watershed management and developing Nigeria’s resilience to the changing climate. He stressed that the NAGGW remains a key partner in advancing Nigeria’s vision for a greener environment, green jobs opportunities, and green economy in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, Renewed Hope Initiatives for an improved and better greener environment and green economy for the betterment of the Nigerian people.

“As a green project, we provide bioengineering solutions to protect and sustain the civil engineering infrastructural investment implemented. Most of the erosion and flooding challenges that the country is battling with today are largely man made, caused by human quest for livelihood, uncoordinated development, poor termination of drains and that of poor urban town planning and deficit in urban drainage infrastructural investment. With the increase in the rate to which our forest cover is being degraded and the ever rising temperature, the depletion of the ozone layers; our rainfall pattern continue to be disrupted. Therefore, reversing this trend is critical and called for collective action" he said. However, the current government regime under the environmental leadership stewardship of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR is tackling head-on the menace of flood and erosion control through the NEWMAP-EIB funded intervention project.

Engr. Yalaks also encouraged the NAGGW to invest more in research and development, focusing on how planted trees — such as Neem, Date palms trees etc — can generate along a value chain, including solutions for managing post-harvest losses, herbicides and pesticides, soil fertilizer, pharmaceuticals etc. This will guarantee ownership and sustainability of the NAGGW across the Sahelian Region of the Nigerian corridor.

In his response, the Director General, NAGGW, Alhaji Saleh Abubakar, MFR appreciated the visit and pledged the Agency’s continued collaboration and partnership with NEWMAP-EIB. Both parties reaffirmed their shared vision and commitment to tackling watershed challenges, restoring degraded lands, and building sustainable and resilient environment for the benefit of Nigerians across the Sahel.

2025 NUJ Man of Year Award/ Press Week Grand Finale: Committee Reels Out Activities

2025 NUJ Anambra State Council's Man of the Year Award/ Press Week Committee has reeled out the activities to marking this year's celebrations.

Speaking during a press conference held at Godwin Ezeemo International Press Centre, Awka, which is part of activities marking the 2025 NUJ Man of The Year Award and Press Week, the Chairman of the Committee, Comrade Ekpone Francis Emeka said the Press Week is an annual ritual where journalists and other media professionals highlight the importance of journalism and the role of the press in society, noting that it was a period when journalists reflect on their responsibilities, discuss challenges, and promote ethical and responsible reporting.

'Proposed Events for 2025 Press Week/ Award Ceremony. This year's press week begins on Monday, August 25, 2025, with a novelty match between Nigeria Union of Journalists and the Anambra Patriots for Soludo. The match will kick off by 4:pm at Paul University field, Awka.

'On Tuesday, August 26, 2025, Journalists will take a tour of all state Government major projects in Anambra state including the Solution Fun City, Light House, Urban Regeneration projects in Okpoko, Obá Drug Market, the Ekwulobia Flyover and the three major dual carriage ways under construction among others. SWAN Demands Immediate Inauguration of National Sports Commission Board

The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has urged the National Sports Commission (NSC) to immediately inaugurate its 17-member governing board.

Established in 1964, SWAN, the umbrella body for all Sports Editors, Reporters, Producers, and Presenters, warned that the Commission is operating in gross violation of its establishing law with the delay of a properly constituted NSC board.

SWAN President, Mr. Isaiah Benjamin, in a statement through Secretary-General Amb. Ikenna Okonkwo, on Sunday, said the Commission has been functioning without a statutory board since its creation in October 2024, contrary to the NSC Establishment Act 2023.

“As a statutory board member of the NSC, I'm compelled to urge the Chairman and Director-General to take all necessary steps to inaugurate the board without further delay,” President Benjamin said.

“Operating without a duly constituted board for nearly a year is not only a breach of the law but also undermines transparency and accountability.”

He said Section 2(1) of the Act “is very clear” on the composition of the board, which includes representatives from ministries, sports bodies, the organised private sector, academia, medical field, military, persons with disabilities, the Nigeria Football Federation, the Professional Footballers Association of Nigeria, and SWAN.

“There is no lawful way to run the National Sports Commission without make 5properly constituted board.

“All major decisions made since October 2024 lack legal backing in the absence of the board,” he added.

The SWAN President also linked the situation to a wider pattern of governance lapses in Nigerian sports, citing ongoing litigation involving the Nigeria Football Federation and controversies surrounding the Athletics Federation of Nigeria elections.

“The NSC cannot continue to function as a two-man entity – comprising only the Chairman and the Director-General – while 15 other constitutionally mandated positions remain unfilled.

“This issue will remain on the front burner until the law is obeyed,” he warned.

SWAN further lamented the neglect of the association in the scheme of operations, particularly in overseeing the engagement of experienced, qualified, and skilled Communication Managers to handle media operations of various sports federations.

According to President Benjamin, this would “complement the service of the NSC, enhance promotion, and boost the digital marketability of sports for sponsorship drives.”

He added, “Ignoring SWAN’s expertise in this regard is a missed opportunity to leverage professional sports journalism for national sports growth.”

SWAN also noted that a situation where National and International events are carried out unilaterally without necessary inputs by the professional sports media body was unacceptable.

"One of the major reasons why President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in his wisdom approved a National Sports Commission is to enable accelerated and holistic growth and development of Sports in Nigeria. What obtained in the past when sports was under Ministry or bureaucratic encumbrances is supposed to be a thing of the past with the emergence of NSC.

"A situation where unnecessary political/non-professional application or approach is deployed in the day-to-day operations of the Sports Commission is by far not the way to go," the statement said.

FPMU Hosts Strategic Meeting with 23 State Coordinators on Project Implementation Readiness Ahead of Fund Disbursement

The Federal Project Management Unit (FPMU) of the Nigeria Climate Adaptation – Erosion and Watershed Project (NEWMAP-EIB) convened a strategic meeting on Monday, 11/8/2025 in Abuja with 23 State Project Coordinators to finalize state-level readiness and work plans ahead of fund disbursement.

Delivering the opening remarks, the National Project Coordinator, Engr. Ayuba Anda Yalaks stated that the purpose of the meeting was to harmonize state readiness, finalize draft work plans, and address all outstanding concerns prior to the release of funds.

Providing an update on the status of the project, the National Project Coordinator, NEWMAP-EIB, Engr. Anda Ayuba Yalaks announced that the NEWMAP-EIB project has been declared technically and disbursement effective. He also confirmed that the project has received the first tranche of funding from the European Investment Bank (EIB).

Engr. Yalaks reiterated that, for any state to receive disbursement under the first tranche of releases, it must have been visited and physically assessed by the Federal Project Management Unit (FPMU), as recommended by the bank, this is in line with fulfilling all the condition readiness criteria outlined by the European Investment Bank.

He further emphasized the importance of maintaining stability in each state’s project team, cautioning against unnecessary changes in staff composition.

According to him, such changes, particularly involving signatory officers to the project account, could delay disbursement and raise concerns with the bank.

"Unnecessary staff turnover could trigger a red flag on the project and result in cleared bank arrangements approved for the states.

Additionally, states that have not yet secured the required “No Objection” for their staff composition will experience delays in fund releases.

Therefore, the NPC advised State Project Coordinators (SPCs) to remain guided, ensure their authorizing environment is well-informed, and take every measure to meet the stipulated requirements to avoid disbursement delays.

In his welcome address, the Chairman of the Project Coordinators Forum, Dr. Philip Uche Echiegu warmly welcomed all participants and emphasized the importance of collaboration in achieving project goals.

The Director, Erosion Flood and Coastal Zone Management Department ( FMEnv.) Mr.Usman Abdullahi Bokani in his remarks, encouraged all project coordinators to explore every avenue for successful implementation, noting that the project’s success would be a significant milestone and a testament to collective effort and dedication.

Project Accountants,

The Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo CFR, has officially confirmed the appointment of Professor Kate Azuka Omenugha as the fourth substantive Vice Chancellor of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), Anambra State.

According to the release signed and made available to Newsmen in Awka by the Press Secretary to Governor , Mr Christian Aburime, the formal appointment letter was presented to Professor Omenugha by Professor Solo Chukwulobelu, Secretary to the State Government, at a ceremony held at the Light House in Awka.

'Professor Omenugha’s confirmation follows her exemplary performance during her tenure as Acting Vice Chancellor, a period characterised by positive institutional changes and visionary leadership that has positioned COOU for greater academic excellence and innovation.

The wife of the governor of Anambra State and founder of Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo Initiative, Dr (Mrs) Nonye Soludo has been selected as one of the key speakers at this year's Teens Career Conference organized by the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) in Abuja, Nigeria.

The Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt.Hon.Somtochukwu Udeze has expressed gratitude to God for the eventful lives of two former Governors of the State, Dr.Chris Ngige and Chief Willie Obiano, describing the duo as big contributors to the growth and development of the State as well as the well-being of the citizenry.

In his Goodwill Message to the former Governors, Dr.Ngige and Chief Obiano as they mark their 73rd and 70th birthdays respectively, Rt Hon.Udeze acknowledged that while Dr. Ngige made unprecedented marks on road infrastructure in the State by building solid roads across the State, which originated the slogan " Ngige Standard", Chief Obiano achieved a legacy project through the construction of the "Anambra International Airport", which earned him great honour as the second Igbo Governor in history after the Late Governor Sam Mbakwe of Imo State to build an Airport.

The Speaker also noted that the two former Governors recorded similar achievements on security and health sector, adding that their tenures gave adequate attention to security of lives and property and improved the health condition of Ndi Anambra.

He observed that Anambra State is lucky as it is being governed by committed people whose contributions to the development of the State are legendary, while commending Governor Chukwuma Soludo for transforming all sectors of the State economy through purposeful administration.

The State number one lawmaker, Udeze prayed God to continue to protect Dr.Ngige and Chief Obiano, and bless their endeavours, even as he wished them longevity and more glorious birthday celebrations.

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (MD/CEO) of Anambra State Signage and Advertisement Agency-ANSAA, Tony Odili Ujubuoñu, гра, says five out of the sixteen registered political parties have so far complied with the guidelines by paying the campaign fee.

The Managing Director/CEO who made this known on Tuesday, 5th August 2025, during a press conference in Awka, said Young Progressives Party (YPP) paid on June 24, 2025; African Democratic Congress (ADC) on June 26, 2025, Labour Party (LP) on June 27, 2025; Action Alliance (AA) on June 27, 2025 while the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) paid on July 2, 2025.

'These parties have since been granted a campaign permit each and an unrestricted access to the Out-of-Home campaign space across the state.

'We also acknowledge that some of the remaining political parties have opted for alternative campaign platforms such as social media, radio, or television to avoid breaching the established regulations. This approach is acceptable, provided it does not violate the Out-of-Home advertising laws in Anambra State.

'Unfortunately, one political party has deliberately violated the law. Despite refusing to obtain the mandatory campaign permit, they have proceeded to engage in unauthorized promotional activities; erecting posters, branding vehicles, hoisting banners, organizing filled with promotional items bearing party names and logos, and even installing unapproved billboards at irregular sites without registered practitioners and due vetting from the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON).

'We are pleased to welcome you once again to the headquarters of the Anambra State Signage and Advertisement Agency (ANSAA) for this important press briefing, organized to update Ndi Anambra on the implementation of the Out-of-Home Promotions and Visual Campaign Guidelines for political parties participating in the 2025 Anambra State gubernatorial election.

'You may recall that on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, we convened a press conference where we unveiled the official Out-of-Home advertising guidelines, including the stipulated campaign fee of fifty million naira. These guidelines were designed to ensure orderliness, fairness, and aesthetic responsibility throughout the electioneering period. If you recall, we made a promise to update you as we go on with this process. Today's briefing is in keeping to the promise ANSAA made on that occasion.

'Most troubling is a recent incident in Nri, Aniocha Local Government Area, where this political party resorted to violence to obstruct an official ANSAA team on lawful assignment.

'Prior to this, the party had been issued two demand notices within a period of two months and with a two-week compliance window, followed by a legal reminder with an additional one-week timeline. All were ignored.

'On August 1, 2025, after the expiration of our last leash of kindness and amidst the altercation at Nri, the party suddenly rushed in a backdated letter to our office, claiming a dispute over the same campaign fee that other political parties had already paid-clearly an attempt to delay compliance and distract from their unlawful actions. The letter was received, but because it came after our grace period, we could do nothing about it.

"Regarding the assault of our staff at Nri, ANSAA has formally reported the incident to the Nigeria Police and will continue to take all lawful steps necessary to uphold the integrity of our regulatory mandate.

'Let me assure all political parties that have decided to obey the law by full compliance that ANSAA will do everything within the law to ensure that their cooperation with the agency is not misplaced.

'All Progressive Congress (APC) is a highly respected political party that has given our country a highly respected president who is both progressive and law-abiding. We are surprised that in Anambra State, the party has fallen into the hands of brigands and deviants who think that civility is a culture for the weak and opt to employ violence and disregard for the law in carrying out their politicking.

'We strongly urge Ndi Anambra and the general public to disregard the disinformation, truth-flipping, and narrative construction being circulated by this political party. It is important that we collectively insist on a level playing field where only law-abiding parties and candidates are considered credible choices in the November gubernatorial polls.

'We call on the press and all well-meaning citizens to bear witness: ANSAA has explored every civil and administrative channel to engage this political party. We are now fully within our legal rights to enforce compliance, and we shall do so with the professionalism that our agency is known for.

'Our attention has been drawn to a video making the rounds on the social media concerning the visit of a Celebrity Martin’s Vincent Otse a.k.a VeryDarkMan, over the proposed candle light for our beloved brother Martins Onyekesi, the late CEO of The Fish Magnet.

'Indeed, it is a very sad and pathetic situation we encountered in the unprovoked and brutal killing of the hardworking young man who has formed a great hope for his family, ndi Anambra and Nigerians alike, especially in the area of Food Security; and many other victims of the hydra headed monster that has befallen us. May their great and lovely souls rest in peace; Amen.

'It's our resolve to use this opportunity to emphatically state as follows: Ndi Anambra, both indigenes and residents, regrettably acknowledge the fair share of the National Insecurity in Nigeria and beyond; and we are assiduously working with the appropriate quarters especially State Government and Security Agencies to curb and check the menace of Insecurity in our beloved Anambra State- Light of the Nation.

Speaking separately on behalf of the group, Hon. Chikeze and Barr. Following his constant call for collaborative and sustenable partnership, the Mayor of Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, Chief Stanley Nkwoka (Ochendo), yesterday, Wednesday, 30th July 2025, at Electrical Dealers International Market, Obosi, officially commissioned 0.35km access road built by the market leaders.

It was gathered that the Road tagged 'Electrical Dealers Obosi By-pass' was initiated and completed by the traders under the leadership of Ambassador Chike Onunkwo.

Commissioning the project, the Mayor of Idemili North Council Area, Chief Stanley Nkwoka, described the Electrical Dealers as partners in progress with the State government, describing the initiative as a major boost for the Local Government.

'Coming to commission a legacy project like this one is a plus to us in the APGA led government, especially in this election year because this is an additional road to provide greater access to the market,' he said.

While commending the foresight of the initiators of the Road Project, he assured the traders of a business-friendly environment to transact their business, stressing that his administration will not allow anyone to intimidate them and warned that double taxation and all forms of intimidation are prohibited in any market in the Council Area, in line with Governor Charles Soludo's policy.

He called on others to emulate traders of Electrical Dealers International Market Obosi.

The Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt.Hon.Somtochukwu Udeze says Governor Chukwuma Soludo has proven to Ndi Anambra and Nigerians at large that his primary purpose of coming into politics was to fast track development in Anambra State and provide a better life for the citizenry through impactful administration.

Felicitating Governor Soludo on behalf of the State Legislature as he marks his 65th birthday, Rt.Hon.Udeze noted that Governor Soludo has distinguished himself among his colleagues in the country in all aspects of governance, expressing immense satisfaction that the Governor has done the State proud, evident in the unprecedented milestones he has recorded in all sectors of the State economy.

The Speaker who stated that the State Legislature's resolve to continue to accord necessary support to Governor Soludo's administration was predicated on the Governor's remarkable achievements in the State, lauded him for running a transparent, purposeful and inclusive government where the citizenry are not in doubt of his genuine actions and development initiatives.

He enumerated some of Governor Soludo's accomplishments in the State to include construction of the first and befitting Government House and Governor's Lodge known as the Light House, Solution Fun City, massive road infrastructure across the State, improved education and health care system, agricultural revolution, massive employments, improved security architecture, as well as youth development among others, adding that the Governor has applied his prudent management prowess in achieving good governance in the State without borrowing money, despite the legislatures' approval.

Department of Political Science UNIZIK Holds Maiden International Conference As Ex-PDP National Publicity Secretary, Metu Faults Nigerian Zoning System

The Department of Political Science, Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, recently held its maiden three-day conference, themed “Africa at Crossroads: Confronting Governance, Security and Development Challenges in the 21st Century”, centred on bringing about a positive change and enduring change to the Nigerian political sphere.

The event held on the 24th of July at the Varsity Auditorium attracted notable politicians, scholars, administrators, business moguls, and policemakers, including the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Barr. Olugbenga Kukoyi; Chief Barr. Olisa Metuh, Principal Partner at James Frost & Co.; and renowned academics such as Prof. Ogban-Ogban Iyam and Prof. Okechukwu Ibeanu, HRH Igwe Johnson Mbanefo, Chief George Muoghalu, Rt. Hon. Dr. Chukwuma Okoye, Mr. Oseloka Henry Obaze, Chief John Nwosu, Chief Ndubuisi Nwobu, Chief Uzuegbu Okagbue, and Amb. Arc. Meshach Odide, among others.

Addressing the gathering, the former National Publicity Secretary of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) , Chief Barr. Olisah Metu, bemoaned the current zoning system being propagated by some Nigerian political class, insisting that the Zoning arrangement should not start and end Northern and Southern Nigeria, arguing that it would reflect all the political zones in the country whereby every zone will stand a chance of producing a President of the country.

He regretted the way and manner oppositions were witch-hunted and maligned, stating that the country needed a paradigm shift.

Earlier in a remark, the Chairman of the occa­sion and the former Chief Judge of Anambra State, Prof Justice Peter Umeadi, paid a resounding tribute to the institution’s namesake and Nigeria’s pioneer president, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe.

In his address, Prof. Umeadi hailed UNIZIK as a unique institution for political science studies, attributing this distinction to the enduring ideals and pan-African philosophy of Dr. Azikiwe.

'Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe was not only Nigeria’s first president; he was a continental beacon,” Umeadi stated.

'His influence extended beyond our borders, shaping the political trajectories of African icons like Julius Nyerere, Kenneth Kaunda, and Kwame Nkrumah.

'It is fitting that a university bearing his name now rises to interrogate the crises and possibilities facing Africa in the 21st century,' he concluded

For her part, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Carol Chinyelugo Arinze-Umobi, welcomed participants with a stirring address that challenged African political scientists to reframe the continent’s future.

'It is utterly disappointing that decades after independence, Africa remains mired in underdevelopment and insecurity.

'This conference is an opportunity to rethink the structures and mindset that have hampered progress.'

The Vice-Chancellor commended the Political Science Department, led by Prof. Jude C. Okafor and the Local Organizing Committee (LOC), Ngini Ignatius for finally hosting its first international gathering, describing it as “a jinx-breaking milestone.”

Prof. Okafor, in his own remarks, described the event as a platform to “interrogate a vital, critical, and controversial theme,” and called on participants to “drink from the cups of highly experienced experts in theory and practice.”

With sessions exploring themes ranging from the resurgence of military rule to the weaponization of ethnic and religious identities, the conference provided critical insight into Africa’s governance deficits.

It also spotlighted opportunities for civic reawakening, accountability, and development through policy innovation and regional cooperation.

Nnamdi Azikiwe University’s commitment to political scholarship, embodied in this inaugural conference, reaffirms its vision of producing leaders and thinkers capable of driving transformational change in Africa.

November 8 Guber Poll: ANAMBRA CENTRAL ENDORSES GOVERNOR SOLUDO AS CONSENSUS CANDIDATE

In an unprecedented show of unity and support, stakeholders from across Anambra Central Senatorial District adopted and endorsed Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, and his Deputy, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, as the consensus candidates for the November 8 gubernatorial election.

The endorsement was made at an event that attracted more than 10,000 strong party faithful and supporters at the Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka.

The occasion brought together political leaders, community heads, youth representatives, and women’s groups, cut across seven local government areas, and 109 wards within the state, all rallying behind Governor Soludo and his Deputy, Dr onyekachukwuIbezim.

key figures in attendance included members of the state legislature and traditional rulers, among others, all emphasizing the need for continuity in governance.

Addressing the audience, Governor Soludo expressed gratitude for the endorsement, highlighting the achievements of his administration since taking office, pointing out that under successive administrations, Anambra has succeeded in enthroning a political order in its political landscape, with a zoning system in place.

While championing a call for respect for the zoning system, the Governor noted the significant strides made by his government in education, healthcare, and infrastructure, pointing to ongoing projects that will also be laying a solid foundation for Anambra’s future.

Earlier, the Deputy Governor, Dr. Ibezim echoed the Governor's sentiments, emphasizing the importance of collaboration among all sectors of the community, just as Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Solo Chukwulobelu, Deputy Speaker at the State Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chukwuma Okoye, APGA State Chiarman, Barr. Ifeatu Obiokoye, Chief Osita Chidoka, Chief Dozie Nwankwo, Dr. Ifeanyi Okoye and a retinue of others, stood firm in support that Governor Soludo should continue his transformational governance for another term of four years.
