Following his constant call for collaborative and sustenable partnership, the Mayor of Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, Chief Stanley Nkwoka (Ochendo), yesterday, Wednesday, 30th July 2025, at Electrical Dealers International Market, Obosi, officially commissioned 0.35km access road built by the market leaders.

It was gathered that the Road tagged 'Electrical Dealers Obosi By-pass' was initiated and completed by the traders under the leadership of Ambassador Chike Onunkwo.

Commissioning the project, the Mayor of Idemili North Council Area, Chief Stanley Nkwoka, described the Electrical Dealers as partners in progress with the State government, describing the initiative as a major boost for the Local Government.

'Coming to commission a legacy project like this one is a plus to us in the APGA led government, especially in this election year because this is an additional road to provide greater access to the market,' he said.

While commending the foresight of the initiators of the Road Project, he assured the traders of a business-friendly environment to transact their business, stressing that his administration will not allow anyone to intimidate them and warned that double taxation and all forms of intimidation are prohibited in any market in the Council Area, in line with Governor Charles Soludo's policy.

He called on others to emulate traders of Electrical Dealers International Market Obosi.

The Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt.Hon.Somtochukwu Udeze says Governor Chukwuma Soludo has proven to Ndi Anambra and Nigerians at large that his primary purpose of coming into politics was to fast track development in Anambra State and provide a better life for the citizenry through impactful administration.

Felicitating Governor Soludo on behalf of the State Legislature as he marks his 65th birthday, Rt.Hon.Udeze noted that Governor Soludo has distinguished himself among his colleagues in the country in all aspects of governance, expressing immense satisfaction that the Governor has done the State proud, evident in the unprecedented milestones he has recorded in all sectors of the State economy.

The Speaker who stated that the State Legislature's resolve to continue to accord necessary support to Governor Soludo's administration was predicated on the Governor's remarkable achievements in the State, lauded him for running a transparent, purposeful and inclusive government where the citizenry are not in doubt of his genuine actions and development initiatives.

He enumerated some of Governor Soludo's accomplishments in the State to include construction of the first and befitting Government House and Governor's Lodge known as the Light House, Solution Fun City, massive road infrastructure across the State, improved education and health care system, agricultural revolution, massive employments, improved security architecture, as well as youth development among others, adding that the Governor has applied his prudent management prowess in achieving good governance in the State without borrowing money, despite the legislatures' approval.

Department of Political Science UNIZIK Holds Maiden International Conference As Ex-PDP National Publicity Secretary, Metu Faults Nigerian Zoning System

The Department of Political Science, Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, recently held its maiden three-day conference, themed “Africa at Crossroads: Confronting Governance, Security and Development Challenges in the 21st Century”, centred on bringing about a positive change and enduring change to the Nigerian political sphere.

The event held on the 24th of July at the Varsity Auditorium attracted notable politicians, scholars, administrators, business moguls, and policemakers, including the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Barr. Olugbenga Kukoyi; Chief Barr. Olisa Metuh, Principal Partner at James Frost & Co.; and renowned academics such as Prof. Ogban-Ogban Iyam and Prof. Okechukwu Ibeanu, HRH Igwe Johnson Mbanefo, Chief George Muoghalu, Rt. Hon. Dr. Chukwuma Okoye, Mr. Oseloka Henry Obaze, Chief John Nwosu, Chief Ndubuisi Nwobu, Chief Uzuegbu Okagbue, and Amb. Arc. Meshach Odide, among others.

Addressing the gathering, the former National Publicity Secretary of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) , Chief Barr. Olisah Metu, bemoaned the current zoning system being propagated by some Nigerian political class, insisting that the Zoning arrangement should not start and end Northern and Southern Nigeria, arguing that it would reflect all the political zones in the country whereby every zone will stand a chance of producing a President of the country.

He regretted the way and manner oppositions were witch-hunted and maligned, stating that the country needed a paradigm shift.

Earlier in a remark, the Chairman of the occa­sion and the former Chief Judge of Anambra State, Prof Justice Peter Umeadi, paid a resounding tribute to the institution’s namesake and Nigeria’s pioneer president, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe.

In his address, Prof. Umeadi hailed UNIZIK as a unique institution for political science studies, attributing this distinction to the enduring ideals and pan-African philosophy of Dr. Azikiwe.

'Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe was not only Nigeria’s first president; he was a continental beacon,” Umeadi stated.

'His influence extended beyond our borders, shaping the political trajectories of African icons like Julius Nyerere, Kenneth Kaunda, and Kwame Nkrumah.

For her part, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Carol Chinyelugo Arinze-Umobi, welcomed participants with a stirring address that challenged African political scientists to reframe the continent’s future.

'It is utterly disappointing that decades after independence, Africa remains mired in underdevelopment and insecurity.

'This conference is an opportunity to rethink the structures and mindset that have hampered progress.'

The Vice-Chancellor commended the Political Science Department, led by Prof. Jude C. Okafor and the Local Organizing Committee (LOC), Ngini Ignatius for finally hosting its first international gathering, describing it as “a jinx-breaking milestone.”

Prof. Okafor, in his own remarks, described the event as a platform to “interrogate a vital, critical, and controversial theme,” and called on participants to “drink from the cups of highly experienced experts in theory and practice.”

With sessions exploring themes ranging from the resurgence of military rule to the weaponization of ethnic and religious identities, the conference provided critical insight into Africa’s governance deficits.

It also spotlighted opportunities for civic reawakening, accountability, and development through policy innovation and regional cooperation.

Nnamdi Azikiwe University’s commitment to political scholarship, embodied in this inaugural conference, reaffirms its vision of producing leaders and thinkers capable of driving transformational change in Africa.

November 8 Guber Poll: ANAMBRA CENTRAL ENDORSES GOVERNOR SOLUDO AS CONSENSUS CANDIDATE

In an unprecedented show of unity and support, stakeholders from across Anambra Central Senatorial District adopted and endorsed Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, and his Deputy, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, as the consensus candidates for the November 8 gubernatorial election.

The endorsement was made at an event that attracted more than 10,000 strong party faithful and supporters at the Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka.

The occasion brought together political leaders, community heads, youth representatives, and women’s groups, cut across seven local government areas, and 109 wards within the state, all rallying behind Governor Soludo and his Deputy, Dr onyekachukwuIbezim.

key figures in attendance included members of the state legislature and traditional rulers, among others, all emphasizing the need for continuity in governance.

Addressing the audience, Governor Soludo expressed gratitude for the endorsement, highlighting the achievements of his administration since taking office, pointing out that under successive administrations, Anambra has succeeded in enthroning a political order in its political landscape, with a zoning system in place.

2025 CMS Anniversary: Anambra Assembly Speaker, Udeze Describes Christianity As Foundation Of Human Development

The Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt.Hon.Somtochukwu Udeze has described Christianity as the foundation of human development in view of the numerous accomplishments of the early missionaries towards exposing and lighting up of the dark environments with the gospel of Jesus Christ.

The Speaker who enumerated some of the achievements and gains of the CMS to include establishment of churches, schools, hospitals as well as stoppage of killing of twins and slave trade among others, called on the present day Christians to sustain those efforts and work towards the advancement of Christianity in all ramifications.

Former Minister of Aviation and prominent public policy advocate, and Vice Chairman Anambra State Educational Council , Chief Osita Chidoka, has formally endorsed the re-election bid of Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, calling him “Odịụkọ na Mba”, “the rare one, not easily found.”

Speaking at the Anambra Central Senatorial Zone endorsement event on Tuesday, Chidoka praised Governor Soludo’s transformational leadership, prudent financial management, and vision for the future of Anambra State.

“In 2025, the question is no longer ‘Is it broken?’” Chidoka said. “The real question is: why drop the spoon when the soup is tasty? Ndi Anambra, the pot is still on the fire. The aroma of progress is in the air.”

He hailed Soludo’s achievements in urban renewal, digital governance, education reform, and infrastructure, calling for continuity to sustain the gains of the past three years.

“Soludo is the only son of Anambra who has kept money for the whole of Nigeria and today, he is keeping Anambra’s money with care, vision, and discipline.”

Quoting an Igbo proverb “Ula tọba uto, ekwobeya ekwobe”, Chidoka likened Soludo’s governance to sweet sleep: “When sleep is sweet, you don’t wake up, you roll over and enjoy it again.”

Anambra FA celebrates board member Ralph Chidozie George for exploits at WAFCON in Morocco

The Anambra State Football Association (ANSFA) is celebrating its board member and chairman of its media committee, Ralph Chidozie George for the great achievement of Commentating some matches of the Women Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON 2024) in Morocco.

Describing him as a dedicated and passionate lover of the game, Chief Chikelue Iloenyosi Chairman of ANSFA poured encomiuns on the SuperSport commentator.

"We at ANSFA are very proud of our board member and Chairman of our media committee for being selected by the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) and becoming the first lead Commentator from Nigeria to call matches at any CAF tournament in recent years"

"It is a great achievement and we are extremely happy that one of our own made such history" the former Super Eagles player said.

Ralph Chidozie George just returned from Morocco where he commentated four matches (three group C games and the Algeria vs Ghana quarter final) of the Women Africa Cup of Nations.

CAF in recent years selected some ex players from Nigeria as analysts (colour commentators) but for WAFCON 2025 they picked the former Radio Nigeria, Brila FM and Cosmo FM presenter as a lead English commentator.

"We commend CAF for picking out one of the best on the Continent and giving him the chance" 'General' Iloenyosi added.

Over the years Ralph Chidozie George has grown to become one of the renowned sports commentators in the Country.
Apart from football he has been involved in Boxing, Athletics and Tennis commentating which remarkably stands him out.

Alleged Gross Misconduct: ANSFA Slams 5-Year Ban On Barr. Iyke Igbokwe, Warns Him To Steer Clear from All State Football Related Activities

The Anambra State Football Association (ANSFA) has slammed a five-year ban on Barr. Iyke Igbokwe, even as the association warned him to steer clear from all State's football related activities.

This development was made known to the media in a release made available to the media in a letter dated 19th July, 2025 endorsed by the Chairman, Chief Chikelue Iloenyosi with the title, "RE- NOTIFICATION OF DISCIPLINARY ACTION AND FIVE-YEAR BAN FROM ALL FOOTBALL RELATED ACTIVITIES IN ANAMBRA STATE."

The letter reads: "Following the recent sitting of the Anambra State Football Association (ANSFA) committee held on Friday, 18th July, 2025, we wish to formally notify you of the outcome concerning the allegations of your gross misconduct which you made against the Secretary of the Association, Mr. Ralph Nweke.

"Despite being duly invited to appear and present evidence before the committee, you willfully failed to appear and instead launched a series of verbal attacks not only on the Secretary but also the FA Chairman, Chief Chikelue Iloenyosi, the Disciplinary Committee and the President of the Nigeria Football Federation.

"These actions were considered highly unethical, disrespectful and in direct violation of the core values and operational principles of organized football administration. After thorough investigation and due consultations with relevant authorities, the Disciplinary Committee found your claims to be unsubstantiated and baseless.

"Consequently, the Committee has imposed a FIVE (5) YEAR BAN on you, effective immediately, in participating in or being involved in any football-related activities within Anambra State. You are hereby strictly warned to desist from entering any football field, stadium or venue hosting officially recognized football events within the state during this period. Failure to comply will attract further sanctions and may lead to legal consequences.

"Additionally, your public utterances and defamatory statements against FA officials fall within the scope of cyber bullying and character defamation, both of which are prosecutable offenses under Nigerian law. You are therefore advised to refrain from any further public or online commentary that may be considered abusive, false and malicious.

"Please be reminded that according to the statutes and code of ethics guiding football administration in Nigeria, particularly under Article 57 of the NFF Code of Ethics, any individual found guilty of misconduct, defamation or bringing the game to disrepute shall face disciplinary sanctions, including suspension or permanent ban.

"We hope that this letter serves as a final warning and a call to uphold the spirit of respect, discipline and integrity in all your future engagements," the statement read.

The ANSFA in the letter also copied the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State; Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Abuja; Chairman of the Anambra State Sports Development Commission and the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Nnewi Police Station.

The Pro-chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, Barr. Olugbenga Kukoyi on Thursday, 24th July, 2025 commissioned the Solar Powered Projects at the five hostels of the University, a beautiful initiative of the acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Carol Arinze-Umobi.

The Solar powered projects commissioned by the Pro-chancellor of the institution were solar powered bore hole system for efficient water supply, solar powered charging points, solar powered lighting points and solar powered free Internet services all domiciled at the five University Hostels comprising of Basil Oli Hostel, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu Hostel, Dora Akunyili Hostel, Stella Okoli Hostel and Oby Okoli Hostel.

Olugbenga Kukoyi commended the Acting Vice-Chancellor for her motherly love and concern for the welfare of the students of the institution. Barr. Kukoyi who was represented by an external member of the Council, Mrs. Amina Elizabeth Yakowa averred that the solar project will enhance the student's living conditions as well as better their academic pursuit.

For her part, the acting Vice-Chancellor of UNIZIK, Prof. Arinze-Umobi stated that the solar powered projects were part of her administrative objectives and goals in ensuring the welfare of students of the institution residing in the University hostels by enhancing their living conditions to aid their academic pursuit in the University.

The Acting VC charged the hostel leadership and the entire students of the Hostels to ensure they do not abuse the privileges made available to them by the University management but to help in managing the projects for greater efficiency and longevity.

In a note of appreciation, the President of the Student Hostel, Odinaka Elusiuba thanked Prof. Arinze-Umobi for her motherly love and disposition towards the hostelites. He stated that the entire students of the hostels are indeed very grateful and appreciative of her kind gesture.

Highlights of the occasion was the cutting of the ribbon which signifies the commissioning of the four solar projects at the five hostels of the institution.

INEC PROGRESSES TO NEXT PHASE AS ANAMBRA CVR RECORDS 168,187 NEW VOTERS

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has concluded the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in Anambra State with a total of 168,187 new registrants, the highest number recorded within two weeks in the state since the Commission introduced the process in 2017.

This was disclosed by the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee (IVEC), Mr. Sam Olumekun, mni, in a statement issued on Thursday, July 24, 2025, following the Commission’s weekly meeting in Abuja.

According to Mr. Olumekun, the CVR, which was initially scheduled to end on July 17th, was extended by three days to July 20th, 2025, in response to appeals from stakeholders. The turnout, he said, reflected the growing interest of citizens in the electoral process ahead of the forthcoming off-cycle governorship election in Anambra State.

“Although these are preliminary figures pending data clean-up, the detailed breakdown shows that 97,832 (58%) are female, while 70,355 (42%) are male,” he stated “In terms of age, 90,763 (53.97%) are young people between 18 and 34 years old.”

The occupational data shows that businessmen and women constituted the largest category with 62,157 registrants (36.92%), followed by students with 44,243 (26.31%). For Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), 303 registrants reported physical impediments, while 207 identified as persons with albinism.

A comprehensive demographic breakdown has been uploaded to the Commission’s website and other digital platforms for public information.

The IVEC Chairman announced that the next step in the registration process is the display of the preliminary register of voters across the 326 Wards in Anambra State from Saturday, 26th July to Friday, 1st August 2025, during which the public can inspect and raise claims or objections. This exercise, he noted, is vital to the integrity of the voters’ register.

“Once this is concluded and the Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS) is deployed to weed out multiple or ineligible entries, the new registrants will be added to the existing register and the complete list will be published on a Polling Unit basis,” he said.

Mr. Olumekun further assured that Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) for new registrants, as well as for those who requested transfers or replacements, will be ready ahead of the election.

“With 105 days to the election, the Commission is aware of the tight timelines, but we wish to reassure all new registrants in Anambra State that their PVCs will be available for collection before the election,” he affirmed.

In another development, the IVEC Chairman revealed that the Commission has completed internal testing of a newly developed online portal for political party registration, which was designed and built in-house by its ICT Department.

“As is the case with all our IT innovations, the new portal has been demonstrated before the Commission and approved for deployment,” he said.

INEC is currently evaluating 144 letters of intent from political associations, including 10 new submissions received in the last week. The assessment aims to determine which associations meet the constitutional and legal criteria to proceed to the next stage of registration.

The Commission has published the names, acronyms, logos, interim leadership, and contact details of the new associations on its website and other official platforms for transparency.

“We will continue to update Nigerians on all our activities,” the IVEC Chairman concluded.

The Geeks & Founders Alliance for Soludo (GEFAS) has taken another bold step in supporting Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo’s vision of a smart, connected Anambra with the official launch of its Mobile Tech Hub- a custom-built bus bringing free WiFi directly to the people.

This was contained in a release signed by the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Anambra ICT Agency, Angela Nwanodu and made available to Newsmen in Awka.

Fully equipped with high-speed internet, voice and data services, and backup power, the GEFAS Mobile Tech Hub can connect up to 3,000 people at rallies, campaign grounds, and public spaces: expanding the Solution WiFi initiative already live at over 26 locations across Anambra.

The Deputy Governor of Anambra State, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, flagged off the Mobile Tech Hub at a brief ceremony held on Thursday, 24th July 2025, at the Tower of Light, Emeka Anyaoku Boulevard, Awka.

He was joined by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Solo Chukwulobelu; the Deputy Chief of Staff/Chief Protocol to the Governor, Chief Chinedu Nwoye; other senior government officials; the media; and the GEFAS community.

Dr. Ibezim, visibly excited as he inspected the hub’s features, described it as an initiative perfectly aligned with what the Governor is doing in the state.

“We don’t expect anything less from Agbata, who is a guru in this field: exactly why the Governor puts square pegs in square holes,” he said, pointing to the sophistication of the project and the Governor’s deliberate choices.

As the November 8th governorship election in Anambra State draws nearer, the longest serving Chairman of Idemili North Council Area and the Special Adviser to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Local Government Affairs, Chief Honourable Raph Asha Nnabuife (Kanda Nkpor) on Friday, 18th July 2025 at his country home Nkpor inaugurated the wards Coordinators of his support group named Soludo Mega Movement (SMM) with a charge on them to take the message of the Governor’s re-election to the grassroots and to their immediate domain.

Inaugurating the Coordinators drawn from all the wards in Idemili North, the Ex-Council Boss who is the Convener of Soludo Mega Movement (SMM) called on them to ensure that they mobilize support for the Governor in all the polling units by intimating the voters about the good works of the Governor and why he should be re-elected for another four years, stating that the Governor has done enough to merit a second term in the office.

The soft-spoken administrator pledged to assist all the members of Soludo Mega Movement (SMM) in one way or the other, saying that he would ensure that they lack nothing while carrying out their duties, adding that the Governor with his visible laudable achievements has made the campaign so easy for the party and all the support groups.

The working Chairman of the Anambra State Cerebral Football Association (ANSFA), Gen. Chikelue Iloenyosi has demonstrated his passion for sports beyond football by visiting physically challenged basketball players at the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos.

Saran-Ify Sports, who was present during the visit, reports that he recently strolled into the National Stadium for an engagement at the National Sports Institute, where he met physically challenged basketball players practising their craft.

As it is in his nature, Iloenyosi, popularly known as ‘General’ gave out cash to the players, encouraging them to put in their best efforts in their profession.
The players were visibly happy and promised to increase their efforts in training, clearly boosted by the chairman’s visit and support.

Iloenyosi’s actions reflect his commitment to supporting sports development, both on and off the pitch.

It would be recalled that he visited former Nigerian international Sylvanus Okpala after his surgery last year, showcasing his dedication to supporting athletes in need.

Soludo Attends APGA National Chairman's Father's Funeral, Mourns Loss, Condoles Ezeokenwa's Family

Federal Ministry of Health Partners NSRII, Organizes Annual Operation Plan for Health Workers

The Federal Ministry of Health in collaboration with Nigeria Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative (NSRII) has organized a 4-Day Sector-Wide Approach (SWAP) Leadership, Health Systems Strengthening and planning: Capacity Development Workshop for Anambra state Health Leaders and Managers.

According to a report written by written by Chris Chikelue/Azuka Nnabuife, the event, which was held in Awka from July 15 to 18, brought together health workers from the 21 Local Government Areas of the state.

The State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike, while speaking on the event, said it was organized to prepare the health workers on the Ministry’s annual operational plan.

'We have people from every programme and from every Department; the Primary Healthcare, Insurance, the Health Education Section and the Tertiary and Secondary health activities here to discuss holistically what we are going to be doing for the coming year and to ensure that everything that are going to be done are grouped and aligned so that there won’t be segregation of activities.

'The training is also for efficiency and for producing good results.'

For the target of the programme on the workers the commissioner said, ``well first we are building capacity and people; planning for programme of activities that will occur in the next year and also reviewing what we have done so far this year to make sure the programmes are aligned together so that there will not be any segregation of activities.

'All in all we are preparing them to remain on the operational plan so that all the programmes will be aligned so we can have good results and reduce unnecessary spending of resources because when you align your ideas and your programmes you will reduce inefficiency and resource wastage.'

The Desk Officer SWAP, Dr. Obianuju Okoye further explained the rudiments of the training, and she said, ` The Sector-Wide Approach is a programme of the Federal Ministry of Health.

'This training is going on in all the states of the Federation, so that we will have one Plan, one Budget and one Conversation in the health sector nationwide.

'Every state has a priority area, and we should all be speaking one language of development and moving forward together,'

Speaking while unveiling the platform, Mr. Agbata, otherwise known as CFA, noted he was inspired by Governor Soludo’s relentless drive toward building a smart, liveable, and prosperous Anambra anchored on technological innovation, adding that the launch of GEFA for Soludo signals a major milestone in Anambra’s evolving governance model, where digital tools are becoming essential instruments for civic interaction, accountability, and transformational leadership.

According to him, 'Governor Soludo is passionate about innovation and technology. GEFAS is a product of that vision platform bringing together tech enthusiasts, digital professionals, and cybersecurity experts to maintain the voter strength achieved in the past three years while pushing for even greater civic engagement.

Also, speaking at the event, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Matters, Dr. Alex Obiogbolu reiterated the administration’s commitment to building a digital-first society. He revealed that over 20,000 Anambra youths have already been trained in ICT, with digital competitions organized to boost innovation and awareness.

Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide Anambra State Chapter Urges INEC to Address Operational Failures By Extending Continuous Voter Registration, Expresses Disappointment

Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide , Anambra State Chapter, is deeply alarmed and disappointed over the shameful and inexcusable failures characterizing the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise across Anambra State. What should have been a seamless civic process has become, in many communities, a deliberate scheme to disenfranchise Ndi Anambra.

'We strongly condemn the avoidable chaos and failures reported across the state, particularly in Ogbaru, Obosi,Isiagu, Anambra East, Anambra West, Ihiala, and several other communities and wards, where thousands of our people are being systematically denied their constitutional right to register and participate in the electoral process.

The complaints from various communities paint a disturbing picture:

Gross undersupply of registration machines and personnel, crippling the process from the start.

Extremely limited registration locations, forcing citizens to travel long distances and endure endless queues.

Inadequate network infrastructure, with INEC field staff relying on individuals to provide personal data connectivity to power their systems – a responsibility that INEC should have planned for and provided.

Widespread reports of extortion, where citizens are being forced to pay bribes to registration officers in order to exercise their civic right.

Transaction-driven bottlenecks, especially in populous wards like Obosi, Nigeria’s largest ward, where most eligible voters have been unable to register.

Institutionalized humiliation, as ordinary citizens are subjected to indignity and frustration simply for seeking to register.

This situation is unacceptable. INEC’s failure to deploy resources adequately and ethically manage the process raises serious questions about its commitment to credible elections in Anambra State.

In light of this, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Anambra State, demands the following:

1. Immediate and unconditional extension of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise across Anambra State.

2. Deployment of sufficient registration machines, competent personnel, and reliable network infrastructure to all communities, especially rural areas like Ogbaru, Anambra East and West, Ihiala, Ayamelum, and others that have been heavily underserved.

3. Urgent investigation and sanctioning of all personnel involved in acts of extortion or transactionalizing the registration process.

4. INEC must immediately address all operational failures to restore public confidence ahead of the November elections.

5. No citizen of Anambra State should be denied the fundamental right to register and vote. Disenfranchisement in any form is a violation of our civic rights and a threat to democracy.

6. The Anambra State Government (ANSG), political leaders, civil society, and all stakeholders must unite on this non-partisan issue and officially demand urgent intervention from INEC.

INEC has an obligation not just to conduct elections, but to guarantee that every eligible citizen is given unhindered access to the process. The current situation is a clear breach of that duty.

Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Anambra State Chapter, will not accept excuses or explanations. What we demand is immediate corrective action.

We call on INEC to extend the CVR now, fix the failures, and respect the civic rights of Ndi Anambra.

Idemili North Mayor, Nkwoka Mobilizes Support for Soludo’s Re-election, Partners Tipper Drivers, Seeks Solution to Extortion


The Mayor of Idemili North Local Government Area in Anambra State, Hon. Stanley Nkwoka, has agreed on a strategic partnership with tipper drivers across the state to support Governor Charles Soludo’s re-election campaign to address the challenges facing the union, particularly extortion and harassment.

Speaking during a meeting with the executives of the Tipper Drivers Union comprising 74 members at the Idemili North Secretariat on Thursday, Hon. Nkwoka urged the drivers to unite and speak with one voice to effectively engage with the government and resolve longstanding issues.

“It is better to form a common front for the actualization of Governor Soludo’s second term bid. After that, we can present our collective demands for actions,” Nkwoka said.

He noted that Soludo’s victory in the November 8 gubernatorial election is almost certain and advised opposition candidates from wasting their resources.

“I pity anyone who thinks he can challenge Soludo and win. He will just be wasting his money,” he stated.

Nkwoka, a former tipper driver himself, said his appointment as Mayor was a testament to Governor Soludo’s commitment to inclusivity.

“When my name was considered for this role, many questioned how a tipper driver could be appointed a mayor. But the governor ignored those gossips because he is rational and meticulous. That’s why I am here today,” he said.

Describing tipper drivers as hardworking individuals, not criminals, Nkwoka assured the union that their partnership with the government would lead to greater recognition and lasting solutions to their problems.

“The governor listens. If we work together with him, we can resolve every challenge. The tipper driver is not a criminal but a hard working citizen who lives off the sweat of his brow,” he added.

He praised this administration’s ongoing infrastructural improvements, particularly in road construction, which the tipper drivers said has significantly reduced vehicle maintenance costs for them.

“Your vehicles rarely go to the mechanic these days because of the good roads built by this administration. That is why we must support the government to continue his good works,” Nkwoka said.

He said that since they have agreed to formally establish a pro-Soludo support group within the tipper driver community,there is to show commitment and achieve greater goals.

Responding on behalf of the union, President of the Tipper Drivers Association, Mr. Akaigwe Augustine expressed readiness to collaborate with the government but lamented the persistent harassment of tipper drivers.

“Our problems are too many. One of our members was arrested at a sandpit allegedly associated with gunmen. His truck has been impounded for four months, and we have made several attempts to secure it release with no success,” Augustine said

He criticized the tendency of security agents to punish drivers rather than hold pit owners accountable.

“Drivers go to load sand, and security agents descend on them instead of the pit owners, who often flee the scene. It is unfair and unjust,” he said.

The Chairman of the Onitsha Tipper Drivers, Mr. Ebuka Unekwe also expressed concerns about the intimidation they face from a group known as “Ndi Aka Odo” at the Oba sandpit.

“They arrest our members arbitrarily even food vendors working near the pit are not spared,” Unekwe said.

“We supported Soludo in the last election, and we are still willing to support him,but he must show us mercy and end the daily hardship we endure from both state and non-state actors.”he lamented.

Chairman of the Tipper Drivers Board of Trustees (BoT), Comrade Ogechukwu Ndozie, highlighted systemic issues facing members, calling on Mayor Nkwoka to help the union understand the government’s position and how to address their problems effectively.

“All government agencies treat us like we are not from Anambra. Keke and bus drivers have had their levies reduced, but we still pay heavily and also on every trip,” he said.

Ndozie urged the government to ease the burden on tipper drivers, especially regarding arbitrary arrests and the detention of vehicles.

“We commend the Governor’s good work, but we are suffering. The government agencies threaten our ability to work and take care of our families.” he stated.

In a follow-up interview with Insideoutnews, Mayor Nkwoka described tipper drivers as among the most peaceful and organized transport groups in Nigeria.

“We have made efforts to reduce drug use among our members. Today, Anambra tipper drivers are more disciplined and organized than ever before,” he said.

On the issue of extortion, he clarified that the majority of these activities are being perpetrated by non-state actors.

“Those collecting illegal fees from drivers are not agents of the government. They are self-appointed extortionists,” he explained.

He stated that the governor has never authorized such actions and had even instructed mayors not to collect money from drivers.

“No mayor in Anambra collects money from tipper drivers today. The only payments are official government levies,” Nkwoka stressed.

He also addressed the issue of levies per trip, noting that if drivers wish to renegotiate them, they should formally approach the Anambra State Board of Internal Revenue.

“If we want change, we need to engage through proper channels,” he added.

The partnership between the Idemili North Mayor and tipper drivers marks a significant step toward mutual collaboration between the grassroots workforce and the state government. While the support for Governor Soludo’s re-election is strong among the drivers, their message is clear: support must be met with action. Only a fair, inclusive, and harassment-free operating environment will ensure lasting loyalty and sustainable progress.

The Labour Party Aspirant for the Anambra South Senatorial By-election, Sir (Barr.) Donald Chidi Amamgbo (Okosisii Ihiala) has dumped Party for African Democratic Congress (ADC).

In a release signed by himself and made available to Newsmen in Awka, Don Amamgbo called on Anambra South constituents to rally round the new party ADC.

'The ADC for a new era of representation.My dear people of Anambra South Senatorial District,

'In the spirit of truth, accountability, and service to our people, I, Sir Barr. Don Chidi Amamgbo (Okosisii Ihiala) humbly wishes to inform you of a significant step in our collective journey to renew hope and restore dignity to the people of Anambra South.

'After deep personal reflection and extensive consultations with my family, supporters, and political associates, I have officially resigned my membership of the Labour Party as of July 4, 2025, due to irreconcilable structural failures, internal divisions, and a leadership vacuum that has made it impossible to pursue the urgent task of rebuilding our district under its platform.

'The Labour Party, which once held promise, has become deeply enmeshed in rancorous legal battles, factional struggles, and a breakdown of trust, all of which threaten to derail the aspirations of millions of Nigerians yearning for a better tomorrow. The Geeks and Founders Alliance for Soludo (GEFAS), a tech-driven network of young professionals, is set to unveil its operational hub on Thursday, 17th July 2025, at 10 Uche Ekwunife Crescent, Iyiagu Estate, Awka, by 11:00 AM.

....Vows To Defend Loyal Party Faithful

A group under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Anambra State Media Community has made a passionate appeal to the party's hierarchy to hand Anambra South Senatorial Zone by-election's ticket to Sir Azuka Okwuosa, describing him as their consensus candidate.

Addressing newsmen in Awka during a press conference, the leader of the group, Dr. Val Iyke Oliobi, KSJI, warned against what the group described as a dangerous return of imposition of candidate in the party, saying that Okwuosa has all it takes to fly the APC's flag in the election, calling on the Acting National Chairman of the party, Zonal and National Party Leaders, the State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, members of the State Working and executive committees, elders and stakeholders of the great party to look the way of Sir Okwuosa.

'As you may be aware, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released its timetable for the conduct of various by-elections to fill vacant positions in the National and State Assemblies created by the unfortunate demise or resignation of their former occupants.

'Specifically, following the tragic passing of Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Ubah, who represented Anambra South Senatorial District until his death in 2024, a senatorial by-election, has been scheduled to elect his successor.

'On this note, we the APC Anambra State Media Community, stand before the conscience of this great party today to make a heartfelt, unflinching, and non-negotiable appeal that echoes the voices of faithful party men and women across every ward and local government in Anambra South for our party to do what is right, do what is just and do what is long overdue.

'It is pertinent to remind ourselves that in Sir Azuka Okwuosa, we have not just an Aspirant; we have a bridge builder, a battle-tested soldier, and a loyal son of APC whose hands have held the plough and never once looked back.

'Our great party has been here before, and we will not walk this road of betrayal again. The wounds of the past still bleed. In every family, when you see a Son who has laboured in sunshine and in rain, who stayed when others left, who gave when others took, who built when others destroyed; definitely that Son will never be ignored at the time of harvest.

'For the sake of refreshing our memories, Sir Azuka Okwuosa is a foundation member of our party from AC to ACN to APC. This is a man who won the Senate seat in 2003 but was robbed by the system. A man who led our gubernatorial campaign rallies in 2017 that attracted VP Osinbajo and President Buhari. A dye in the wool party leader who chaired the Fact-Finding Committee that submitted a report that the party feared to act upon. A core partyman who, despite being cheated in 2019 and 2021, still donated over ₦100 million to the campaign effort in these elections.

'Azuka Okwuosa is the architect of the most successful APC rally in Nigerian history in 2023, which became so iconic that it became the national advert of our great party in the entire federation.

'If this man does not deserve the ticket, then who does? Shall we continue to pour new wine into old wineskins? Shall we continue to reward strangers while faithful sons eat crumbs from the Dinning Table? God forbid!

'We call on the leadership of our party that this is the time to stand on the side of history because we can bet that this time, the eyes of the grassroots are open, and listening with rapt attention, and watching to see whether loyalty will be rewarded or is betrayal the only path to the top?
But, if reconciliation means anything, if party discipline means anything, if moral justice means anything, then Azuka Okwuosa is the answer. Full stop. If the party turns a blind eye again, let no one say they were not warned.

'We say this is not in rebellion, but in truth; APC Anambra State will split at the seams if injustice is forced again, and this will deter our much cherished quest to build cohesion and forge consensus.
Going forward, we would like to reiterate that Anambra State APC Media Community will not fold their arms while loyal men are pushed aside. We will not sacrifice silence for peace that leads to collapse. The era of “Party Supremacy” without “party fairness” is gone. The grass will no longer suffer while the elephants fight. Therefore, our intervention is anchored on the basis of honour and not just mere politics.

'Sir Azuka Okwuosa is not asking for pity. He is not begging for power. He has earned this with his blood, his sweat, and his unwavering loyalty. This is a man who has governed as Chairman of Old Nnewi LGA. Served as Commissioner for Works and Transport that developed roads that still carry the feet of Ndi Anambra to date. A quiet philanthropist through the Irene Okwuosa Foundation that gives to the society with all his heart and might. Above all, he is a man whose name still commands respect and not controversy.

'Finally, we hereby endorse Hon. Chief Azuka Okwuosa (Chinyelugo) as a consensus candidate for Anambra South Senatorial By-election. We also implore all our party members, our leaders, and every stakeholder of goodwill to hear our appeal clearly: let Azuka Okwuosa fly the APC flag for Anambra South Senatorial District by-elections. Let imposition die a permanent death in Anambra APC. Let justice speak louder than manipulation because, as they say; injury to one is injury to many, and the sun must first shine on those standing before those sitting.

Anambra State Drivers Welfare Association Inducts OCHA Brigade Boss, Anere As Patron

As a way of recognizing the contributions of Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra, OCHA Brigade to the reduction of touting and illegal revenue collectors in the state, Anambra State Drivers Welfare Association, ASDWA, has inducted the Managing Director of the brigade, Comrade Celestine Anere as her patron.

Comrade Anere was inducted when the executive of the association paid him a courtesy visit at the command's corporate headquarters in Awka .

Speaking before the induction, the state Chairman of the group, Sir Nnamdi Okafor, said Comrade Anere was chosen for his fatherly role and support to the organization.

While praising the OCHA brigade boss for taking the responsibility given to him by the Governor Chukwuma Soludo with all commitment, Sir Nnamdi said under Comrade Anere's leadership of the Brigade, the rein of touting and illegal revenue collectors has come to an end, restoring investors and transporters' confidence in the state.

He pledged the association's support to actualising all the lofty visions of the Governor for the state.

Responding, Comrade Anere said he doesn’t need to be thanked for doing his job and making the state a better place and vowed that under the Solution administration, they are committed to flushing out the bad eggs from the state.

The Mayor made the call while speaking during a popular live weekly radio interview on Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS) in Awka today where he emphasized that the success of the upcoming November 8 Anambra governorship election depends largely on the participation of residents from Awka South.

Prince Okafor stressed the significance of voter registration and the updating of existing records as critical steps to ensure that a large and informed electorate is in place for the election. According to the mayor, this is not just a civic duty but also a key factor in securing a resounding victory for Governor Charles Soludo in the gubernatorial polls.

The Mayor also noted that the continuous voter registration process is an opportunity for many residents who may have missed previous registration exercises or need to update their details. The high-profile event took place on Saturday, July 12th, 2025, at Jesse Hotels, Awka, drawing a distinguished audience of academics, women leaders, policymakers, and dignitaries from across the region. It marked a fitting recognition of Chief Dr. Uzoezie—a visionary educationist, women’s advocate, and former Provost of our great College—whose tireless contributions to community development and nation-building continue to inspire generations.

In her stirring keynote, Dr. Anyadiegwu paid glowing tribute to the honoree, describing her as “a beacon of resilience, a pathfinder in education, and a symbol of empowered womanhood.” She lauded the International Women’s Movement for entrusting leadership to a woman of proven integrity and emphasized the significance of intergenerational mentorship among women in leadership.
