HealthRe: Nigeria Has 7 Hospitals For Kidney Transplant- Health Minister by Buchianom(m): 10:34am On Jun 16, 2013
Chukwu is one f d few ministers dat shld be fired by GEJ, he lacks ideas on hw to improve the health sector. Its only an ignorant fellow dat wil belive al d thrash he was sprewing dat day.

I wonder hw a hospital wia workers embark on industrial actions every now $ then; hospitals wia professionals dnt go fr trainings; wia infrastructures ar rarely purchased; wia substandard drugs ar bn purchased $ dispensed $ a whole lot of misnomer thrives wil function effectively.

They can equip the hospitals with word class equipments but once the basic things aren't in place, they will all rust.

Secondly, ur NMA president has once more shot himself on d foot by encouraging physicians to encroach into oda ppls profession. I just hope U guys wldnt cry foul wen odas emulate ds approach of 'providing quality uninterrupted healthcare services to Nigerians' wen next U embark on ur routine strike action.

Addmore2so: I Wish… I wish I live in a country devoid of strife, fear, hate and injustice; I wish I live in a country whose, health institution is healthy; I wish I live in a country whose health sector is managed by professional Health Administrators and Mangers; I wish I live in a country where health professionals respect each others profession and do not trespass; I wish I live in a country where an organize body of health managers handle the recruitment of health professional for Federal Medical Institutions; I wish I live in a country where every health professional have equal opportunity for advanced practical studies and consultancy; I wish I live in a country where cottage hospitals replace health care centers; I wish I live in a country where Doctors and every other professional are deployed to these cottage hospitals in the villages; Then there will be job for every health professional graduate and brain drain will be reduced; Then mother and infant mortality rate will practically and realistically reduce; The quality of our health services can now compete with that of India, UK, Germany and USA; Then we can lend health service support to our neighbours, and Afghanistan and Pakistan who yearn for it; Then we can provide health service to medical tourist seeking medical attention, and meaningfully increase our national revenue; But if wishes were gold, would any be poor on earth? It is time young men and women of health professions to rise up to the challenge of our decaying health sector; It is time young men and women of vision to challenge this monkey hand in the soup that is gradually turning to a human hand; It is time to rise up young professional even if our old men and women who dream refuses to wake up; It is time to say "NO" to this misnomer and bring sanity to Nigerian health sector; The health sector and indeed Nigeria belongs to us, do we fold our hands and let the old men who naturally are close to their grave rubbish it for us? This is a clarion call for all Nigerian young men and women; It is a clarion call for Doctors who maliciously trespass their field of study while Nigerians die daily in great numbers and are buried without any cause of death recorded and preventive measures put in place; It is a clarion call for Pharmacists who have been relegated to drug dispensary in the hospitals, while their jobs have been overtaken by ill-trained chemist; It is a clarion call for Medical Laboratory Scientists who are gradually being pushed out of the medical practices; It is a clarion call for Lawyers whose duty it is to checkmate and prosecute malpractices and professional excesses; It is a clarion call for our politicians and leaders whose personal interest has beclouded their vision to the decay in health sector and by proxy to others; A country with a sick health sector is like a man with a terminal heart and or kidney disease; And like such a man, productivity and development is only but a mirage!!!     Ukwueze Ikenna E. D. 12/03/2013
God bless U son of man!!!

cahnellven: I dnt think any sort of arguement should emanate 4rm dis issue . 4 a start ,it is very true that medicine is the only profesion that completes all the basic medical courses(anatomy, physiology, medical biochemistry),others simply do part of it n not d full course. Now on the issue of administration,it shud be run by the most qualified medical personell,bt as we all knw, administration entails control which makes the position kinda hard to recommend 4 anyone aside a doctor cos hospital politics is different frm wat we have else where. An ideal medical team comprises of a doctor,a pharmacist, nurse, med lab scientist, anatomist, physiotherapist, and a physiologist with each controlling basic autonomy in its own field ,bt as we knw it,a doctor z d natural head of a medical team . So my view is this . . .each proffesion should head its department, with the doctor being and remaing d CMD
a Nurse or a pharmacist has never controlled john hopkins hospital
I wouldn't know d uni U attended, but in my own skool, physicians, med lab scts, nurses, Med. Imaging. Scts$ physitherapists all sat in one lecture room to receive Anatomy, Physiology $ Biochem lectures. Funny enuf, evry1 related as one, sm wia in same discussion groups .......etc. Dis ego/ discrimination thing just starts once dey start practising.

I am in support of ur view for autonomy for all oda professionals as enshrined in dia respective scheme of service but guess wat?? The C .M. D's play the script of dia fellow physicians (in cases wia dey refuse to do so, Consultants threaten dem) $ choose not to implement wat is contained in d SOS. That's why personally I feel d post of d C. M. D shld be for health adminstrators to avoid favouritism or bias.
HealthRe: Should Non-doctors Head health Institutions? by Buchianom(m): 7:10pm On May 01, 2013
docxdee: Dis iz plain rubbish..itz an obvious plot by all dz nurses, lab tecnicians, pharmacistz, etc to take over control..every health team haz a physician az itz head n others simply make up d body..jez imagine one dirty lab technician az a cmd or medical director of a hospital....very weird n sooo improper
When nxt U open ur mouth to talk, try $ reason befor U type ds kind of trash. Just to help ur ignorance; dia is nthin lyk 'lab technician';its Med. Lab. Sct.

Ur use of derogatory words to address fellow health professional shows hw bad U are as a physician (if U av started practising).
HealthRe: Should Non-doctors Head health Institutions? by Buchianom(m): 2:18pm On May 01, 2013
centje: i agree with you.

Mr president set up a committee to travel to other countries, see how they run their health system and report back with recommendations. But somehow the non-doctors association (JOHESU) rejected the committee.
They rejected it cos it was masterminded by NMA thro d minister of doctors (prof Chukwu).

A presidential committee on harmonious relationship amongst health professionals was set up since 2011 to identify problems in the health sector $ make recommendations. It was fairly constituted with each profession, union $ associations having @least a representative each $ was headed by a retired chief judge, ds cttee did a very perfect job, but just for the fact that most of d recommendations wia not in favour of doctors (wich has always been the case), NMA pulled out of d committee, refused to sign $ wrote a counter report against d report of the cttee. The Minister of 'doctors' in his usual way refused to forward d cttee's report to d president till JOHESU threatend to down tools. Dats Y d president is setting up anoda cttee based on d bad advice frm d MOH.
HealthRe: Should Non-doctors Head health Institutions? by Buchianom(m): 2:05pm On May 01, 2013
Headship of hospitals / health institutions is not the exclusive right of doctors, it is beta managed by health adminstrators or any other health care professional with an added degree in adminstration. D headship of hospitals by doctors has done more harm than good to our healthcare system and just as contained in the article; the doctors ALWAYS favour doctors to the detriment of oda healthcare professionals.

HealthRe: Facts About Malaria!! by Buchianom(m): 6:07pm On Mar 19, 2013
Self medication has also done more harm than good to us, most people dnt Ơ̴̴͡.̮Ơ̴̴͡ the need to visit a hospital $ be properly diagnosed before treatment, some physicians prescribe drugs without diagnosing too $ some patients only visit the hospital when they have treated themselves repeatedly without any poitive result. This is why most people suffer frm drug resistivity (a good example is dat of chloroquine).

My candid advice is that as much as we try to live in a clean environment, use our mosquito treated nets $ oda things; we shoud nt assume evry headache or fever to be malaria. Try visitng a hospital, Ơ̴̴͡.̮Ơ̴̴͡ a physician $ run some laboratory tests before commencing treatment.
