amputation is a punishment in sharia for theft. if you are caught stealing they cut off one hand. if you are caught stealing again the second hand (this is not really enforced in most societies today)

but here you have a picture of a child with two hands freshly cut off

also, you are not subject to sharia law until you reach puberty.

i hope that someone arrests the clown who posted this on socila media. this spreading of lies for clout or to make mischief must stop

Yes, I get your drift, but I also think if "my" married muslim cousin from orolu were a Sharia practising Muslim, she shouldn't be sleeping with a married man at all knowing the consequence if caught, since her Muslim god commands she mustn't. But if she is willing to break that code, I'd think she should be willing to claim she is not a Muslim too and therefore not subject herself to Sharia law in Kano, at least until we can smuggle her out of Kano, wouldn't you think. She can always re-Muslim afterwards when she's safely back in Orolu where Sharia in Kano does most definitely not apply.

As for her "not say pim coz "its a sensitive issue"", that's her prerogative, and as far as it is not her that the law applies to she may still not say pim, but if it involves her, I am certain she would say a lot more than pim, and even beg us to locus standi and smuggle her out of Kano, I'd hope.

Regardless, what she does or does not say or do has no bearing on what I should or must do, since she may not reason like I do or I don't reason like she does. I assume locus standi to protest by virtue of having a brain and it being in my country Nigeria, please know. After all, those who helped us abolish the murder of twins and the selling of slaves could also be said to have lacked locus standi and assumed it anyway and we are better off for it, so why should my own assumption of locus be any less valid and effective if I put in the effort to standi and protest?

And that fills me with hope and the possibility that things can change if we do what is necessary to change it in Nigeria.

As for the context of your hypocrisy, forgive yourself please, though I'm certain you mean the hypocrisy of "my" married muslim cousin from orolu and other so called moderate Muslims who do not speak up against this.

P. S. I'm looking for evidence than a tweet for what happened here, as I have not yet found any. I don't like Trump, but I'm willing to use his big mouth in my protest but need more than a tweet to provoke him.

What you are currently reading is a product of the activity of my brain and the functioning of my mind, which I am typing out with my fingers which are parts of my body. My brain can be active and my mind can function to produce thoughts in my head, but unless you can read my mind, my body, fingers, have to assist in producing the output you are reading or you'd have nothing to read from me unless you can read my mind.

Also, if I were to fall dead at this particular moment and before clicking submit, as in, if my body stops taking in oxygen before posting this, you will not have this particular post to read from me or respond to I would think, unless you are able to perform a seance and communicate with the dead.

And I guess if I were to be hit hard in the head with a harmer such as to be brain damaged before writing all this, my mind would not produce any of this despite my body being still in a living state if I don't die.

Essentially, I would not claim that "the body is superior to the mind", and nor would I say "the mind is just one aspect of the body", because both my body and my mind are what assist in my manifestation as the unique living being that I am who is typing this out for you to read. And though my body can continue to exist on life support after my brain has stopped functioning, that would not be the buda who produced what you have read so far, I can assure you, because buda, as in the totality of the personality that you are engaging with, is the inseparable functioning mind that is buda with the assistance of the inseparable body (brain and fingers, at least) of buda that constitute the totality that is buda. Come to think of it, if the body of buda were male and the mind of buda were the female or vice versa, "both male and female does buda equally exist", would apply.

Now, I have limited myself here to a duality of a body and a mind, but recognise that I mentioned a trinity and a quaternity too, being a student of Jung. And I am considering a Quinternity as a speculative possibility, but my jury is still out on that, I must confess.

Note too that after I have posted on Nairaland this manifestation of however many inseparable aspects of buda that I may or may not be and then died, my manifestation, as signified by this particular post, will not die or disappear with me even if my body be a rotting corpse and my mind cease to function, but will continue to exist (in sprit, dare I say), for as long as Nairaland exists, unless it is deleted of course.

Meanwhile, about 9 million Nigerians voted for Tinubu and about 6.5 million voted for Atiku and 6.5 million voted for Obi out of the about 100 million Nigerians who were registered to vote, while about 75% were definitely not in their right senses enough to get off their lazy asses and vote at all.

My hope is that this horrible pain will make more of us vote next time or we deserve more suffer till we learn.

My point is that the punishment you saw up there is codified in Sharia, Maliki jurisprudence, as practiced by all 12 states in Nigeria today. It is not a crime to them! Much as I hate this action like you, SLS, Sultan, ex CJN Tanko, Ishaq Oloyede.... All Nigerian muslim (that's my context) agree to Sharia as in our penal code. Whats my proof? Nobody, as learned as they are or otherwise, has written or protested against this within the Penal Code! And many individual in southern Nigeria are advocating for Sharia.

My comment isnt intended for hate or to trigger you or anybody. It is just the fact. We shouldnt act shocked when we see the fruit of something/law we subtly allowed.

Telling me to "keep quiet" is telling me to shut up, and I respectfully decline to do either.

Second, I am not defending any Muslim or anyone. I am actually condemning what has been done here.

Third, there is already Sharia law in my Orolu Kingdom of Ifon Osun, but cutting off the hands of anyone for any reason has never been done there to my knowledge, and anyone who condones or cuts off anyone's hands like that for whatever reason would likely end up in jail if we Oroluans don't stone that person to death first! There are Sharia courts in UK too, I'm told, and no one is advocating the cutting of anyone's hands there neither. Because it may be codified as you claim, but most people have brains in their heads which they can use to uncodify such nonsense!

Fourth, there may indeed be some backward people advocating for that type of ignorant Sharia in my state, but I doubt they can impose the cutting of hands on anyone, not to talk of the Christians, and definitely not on those in my Kingdom who worship the Obatala we claim to have descended from. Thankfully, we are a democracy, so it's not like some few people can impose on us unless we refuse to participate in our democracy and vote against what we do not want and vote for what we do want, and I can assure you that even the Muslims in my own family and community would not vote for that rubbish, and the Christians definitely wouldn't, nor would just about anyone worth listening to, and no one is stupid enough even to campaign for our votes to do that.

As for your "Nobody, as learned as they are or otherwise, has written or protested against this within the Penal Code", I strongly believe that I should be the change I want to see instead of asking others to change for me, so instead of waiting for others to protest, I better start protesting myself, because my own opinion is that if I don't protest and wait for others to protest for me, it is like I am the one who cut that boys hands of myself. In which case, I should take my own self to the bottom of a river and bash my own stupid head in first before that of some god or anyone elses.

So I repeat, join me in protesting against this please by writing to those you think should oppose this. And more importantly, register to vote and vote for those who oppose this, because that is how we use our voice and democratic powers to make the changes we want to see in our society.
