benalvino3:Death sentence for what, Ben? Would you plead guilty to a crime you did not commit in order to avoid a death sentence unless compelling evidence you committed a crime requiring a death sentence is presented to you and there's nothing wrong with your head? There are many people imprisoned for crimes they claim did not commit, but most don't plead guilty, and instead stand up in court to prove their innocence but fail, or are poor and can not afford to defend themselves and plead guilty to a lesser crime to reduce jail time for crimes they did commit. If you plead guilty to a crime you did not commit, your head is either not correct or you are pleading guilty to get a lesser sentence for a crime you did commit, otherwise you are perverting the coarse of justice.
|
benalvino3:Ben, you will be stupid to plead guilty to a crime you did not commit, and where I live you'd even be protected against pleading guilty to a crime you did not commit since you'd be perverting the course of justice by letting the guilty get away with their crime. |
benalvino3:You know full well the question was asked on the basis of what we have already discussed where I insisted no one pleads guilty to a crime they never committed and you claimed the opposite. Here is a clear example of an individual pleading guilty to crimes, and the question that remains is if you think they committed crimes or not. I can wait patiently until you finish work so take your time and think with your brain if you can. |
MaxInDHouse:Did you fail to notice the op was asking about Islam and not individual Moslems? There are many Christians who are science averse but we'd be ignorant to claim that aversion extends to Christianity even if historically true. |
benalvino3:Rubbish, Ben, and what an ignorant maga would think. What any reasonable thinking person would take from this is this person pleaded guilty in order to avoid a long jail sentence for a crime they know they might be found guilty of. If he were innocent he'd fight to prove it in court. |
triplechoice:Yuk, to common sense. What we are discussing here requires sense that is far from common, but can you see how I am not just accepting everything you are trying to put in my head? I must be a top scientist! |
triplechoice:There is no way to measure how conscious I am of my own consciousness that I am aware of, triple, and even you would find it difficult to measure it for me or for yourself. And knowing more than each other is not my concern, triple, and I am not talking "we" here since I am fully aware that consciousness is an individual thing despite there being a collective unconsciousness and consciousness. If you have knowledge or and experience of consciousness, present it. But expect your peers here to scrutinise what you present, and ask for further evidence, because you must be aware that you are not conversing with people who would just believe you. triplechoice:No, triple. I have not shared my thoughts, and precisely because they are mere thoughts that have not even progressed to beliefs not to talk of become knowledge, as in that which is actually known. I am conscious that my beliefs are not actual knowledge but unverified beliefs, which I describe as the crap people create in their heads and have no evidence of, like the dead being conscious. Consciousness is the ability to be aware. As for where it emerged from, you might as well ask where life or the universe emerged from, answers to which would be mere speculation, and insisting on them makes them beliefs and not knowledge. |
They refused to renew their licences so got them revoked as they should have been which shows the law is actually working.
|
triplechoice:This is a very silly question. However much one is conscious one can not be fully conscious of one's consciousness. I actually have an experiment for this. I ask when was the first time you recognised your own consciousness, and I let you go off thinking about it for months and years since it's not a question one can answer without consciously thinking about it for a while. |
Pled guilty but innocent Ben, or just trying to reduce jail time?
|
triplechoice:This is not a reason for then assuming that everything scientists imagine happening in the future will become a reality, hence your "some". And the other extreme is that a humanbeing who lives by the free reign of their imaginative faculty better be a creative artist or they might end up eating imaginary food. Neither extreme is good for successful living, I would think. |
triplechoice:Neither of us know everything triple, and how consciousness operates, or even what it means to be conscious, is one thing no one can possibly know everything about. But some things are fundamentally clear. Dead things are not conscious. As for my own consciousness, it develops and grows daily, as I find things around and inside me that I have hitherto been unconsciousness of. But if I am aware of something, I, personally am conscious of that thing, though as you say, to what extent, is debatable. P.s. Nairaland is a wonderful tool for growing ones consciousness, especially of oneself. One can go back and read one's past posts and see how conscious one was and is now. |
triplechoice:If only you would be conscious and stop projecting. Are you at all considering things from another's position on this thread? All I see is you asserting your position with little evidence and being incapable of defending said positions and not considering positions that oppose your position. I don't know what "consciousness has not emerged from matter" means, to be honest with you, but consciousness has been found to be a function of living organisms, and living organisms are matter, so there is a connection between consciousness and specific types of matter, which one tends to not find in stones or dead people and dead animals, or you'd eat beef and hear it cry in consciousness of its pain, or a dead person might object to the coffin you've put them in. Consciousness is not some thing that floats around outside the being that is being conscious, and live organisms are a requirement for consciousness. |
triplechoice:Actually, you made a claim without backing it up with anything. You never even claimed your consciousness operated outside your own body before making said claim. No triple. My consciousness, as in my ability to be conscious, has not ever operated outside my body, not even when I was experiencing near death. My consciousness is connected to the functions of my body so it can not operate outside my body just as the engine of a car can not get you anywhere if it is detached from the body of wheels and petrol tank and steering wheel and driver with a brain to direct it. |
triplechoice:Pigs will fly someday because it's a possibility. |
triplechoice:My own research shows dead is dead. I asked for your research because you might be better at researching than I am and found what I haven't. But it seems you are reluctant to present your research to me your peer for review for some reason. |
sanpipita:The voters decide who runs the state, so if they don't like the current state runners they can simply elect runners they like at the next election. |
Obrigardo:You give Alex Jones far too much credit. His only concern is how much he makes selling vitamins to magas, and having completely tapped the now unfertile drumptht stream he is moving on to the currently more fertile de desantis stream. |
triplechoice:This is absolute rubbish, triple, or you would post links to their stories that were verified. |
triplechoice:No I do not want to see it first, triple, I just do not accept that everything conceived in a mind is currently possible. And the article you posted shows how unscientific some scientist can be. Even I can read your mind if I have a good idea of what your brain activity looks like when you are thinking something, and I do not need a scan to spot it. I just give you a questionnaire asking what you are thinking and then present it to you as your mind read. Its what scammers do. |
triplechoice:The driver, who is a human being with a brain, can not be put together with the car such that the human brain becomes the car's brain. |
triplechoice:How would you know? Have you had a direct experience of your consciousness operating outside your body? |
Sweetboilooks:Here is an example of an individual who has not given up and is willing to deal themselves and others different cards. They are also asking you be communists with them by forming a community to accomplish the change you'd likely desire. |
TheSourcerer:Giving up on my country means giving up on where I live which means giving up on myself and letting myself be ruled by those who have not given up. There are indeed those who only play with the cards they were dealt. Adam in Eden is an example of such people until a certain serpent energised Eve by changing the card she was dealt.
|
TheSourcerer:In a democracy we change our public favourite every 4-8 years, while in communism Babangida or Obasanjo would likely be king. And yes, you would be used to it just as Adam and Eve got used to being naked slaves in the Garden of Eden. Thankfully however, the majority of us never got used to it hence June 12. TheSourcerer:Democracy is not about one man Peter Obi fixing the economy, but about all of us Nigerians understanding that democracy means each and everyone of us labouring to fix whatever is broken in Nigeria by us Nigerian for us Nigerians. Unfortunately, most of you still expect a messiah, it seems, instead of getting off your asses to make the difference you wish to see which I guess must be expected from those who still live ignorantly and naked in Eden instead of eating the fruit that opens eyes. Thankfully, here you are shoving that fruit down our throats so we may eat. There is indeed hope.
|
candidtalk:That first paragraph is not clear. How do you work out that Southerners have more-destructive egos in comparison to Northerners? The North's supposed, and South's "docility and unquestioning loyalty and subservience to political and religious leaders" is a function of "of the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you must not eat". Those deprived of fruits of knowledge can not rule over the earth and the sea but would be relegated to nakedly minding a tiny garden for food and board of which minimum wage of 30k is the modern day equivalent and which by any measure is a demotion from rule the earth. That said, what "docility and unquestioning loyalty and subservience to political and religious leaders"? Do you not see boko haram that is devastating the North as disobedience to some political and religious leaders, and do you think Northerners are "docility and unquestioning loyalty and subservience" to boko haram? |
TheSourcerer:Do you at all know why "democracy started in Greece"? Someone has to "control the population". Part of that control involves building community amenities like roads, schools, courts, water running from taps and electricity on wires, and an army to defend the community from neighbouring armies and rogues, etc, all things that require joint effort. Without "control the population" you'd get disorganised Nigeria that is in its democratic infancy and still learning and has not yet got to the point to say "let there be light", not to talk of "let us create humans in our image". That's why Nigerians build their own individual shalanga and well and live in darkness instead of a communal water and waste system and centrally generated electricity. TheSourcerer:One can not say the economy of America got worse because of democracy unless one ignores all the evidence. In fact, it's more rational to claim democracy and capitalism has made America the wealthiest nation on earth today, and anyone who claims Nigeria has gotten worse has not really lived in pre-democracy Nigeria where the incumbent had to be killed in a bloody coup to be replaced. If they were not replaced, their children would be king of Nigeria today a la Saudi Arabia and North Korea. By every measure chosen, the Nigerian economy has grown significantly since we went democratic. TheSourcerer:Democracy is about electing the person who is most liked. It is also about educating the masses about what they should like. For example, in Nigeria, say more people like a Muslim, a Muslim will be democratically elected. Fortunately the electors get to experience rule under their democratic choice and either get to rue their bad choice or delight in choosing right, which will educate their choice at the next election. Hence, Obi by the way, instead of more of the same. Without democracy you'd have a king or the leaders who will group together to form a Chinese Communist Party to rule you in perpetuity. Perhaps you prefer that? |
TheSourcerer:Show me where you explained to people who don't know please. I'd love to read your opinion on the subject and see what you propose as the alternative. |
TheSourcerer:How has democracy not worked for America? |
elijahkayode:Personally, I do not think you know what democracy and communism mean, but thankfully, nowhere in Africa practises "DemonCracy" and neither does the democratic America that most here would give half a kidney to go live in as opposed to Russia and China you kudos to. |
Racoon:Was Fashola brain before? |
