Oshigun: Bro, you're a clever, pragmatic and solution-driven individual. I have political ambitions but what you highlight is exactly what I have been doing since returning from the diaspora.
Business and industrial success first while I 'familiarize' myself with the terrain to see if I can be of help to Nigerians in a leadership role.
Anyone who comes from the diaspora to dive in straightaway in Nigerian politics must be a get-rich-quick crook looking to 'buy' political clout and office (like Ibori, Kashamu and co) or a naive and very ignorant optimist who will probably die early of frustration as will likely happen to Sowore. That is precisely what I discovered from listening to many of my own peers who returned to Nigeria to enter politics. And since most of them did not bother to learn about Nigeria, they are back in diaspora driving mini cabs or door security having lost the little they went home with to the more savvy Nigerians they met there. I can't have political ambitions myself, I'm afraid. I'd be like Jesus whom many thought would come and free them from the Romans only for him to tell them to remove the forest in their own eyes first. My people will just crucify me, lol, like they do on here often I'm afraid, but I will continue to do my bit. Join the Nairaland Democratic Party. Collectively, we might just achieve more. |

oladeebo: but why Nigerian politician ruins this country for a century. Fela will say, "if dem want to knack your head, na from back", which is why you will blame Nigerian politicians and not us who elect them. First we convince ourselves that politicians have two better heads than our one head, and then we make out that our vote does not count so we can convince ourselves we did not put them their to lead us. Nigerian politicians are not some species from Mars. They are Nigerians, you and I, who through our negligence and irresponsibility for our nation have left governance to a few selfish individuals who think only of themselves. When we, you and I, realise that we are responsible for the state our nation is in, we will stop ruining it and become the leaders who will make our nation great. www.nairaland.com/attachments/10959328_notable01411_jpeg1c1c9acf42efa3328b3348b29c401fc2 |

oladeebo: gain an apprenticeship in Nigerian politics? means you are not aware of Nigerian politics and policy. take for example insurgency, that last for that so long, electricity, infrastructure in general which you see hopeful. " Serve an apprenticeship", as in, learn about Nigeria (the society, how the people reason and think, how things work or don't work, why Nigeria is the way it is, etc etc etc), before intending to lead Nigeria to become the great nation it is destined to become, because one can not lead a people in a nation that one does not understand. |

We can easily tell that most comments here are by people who have not bothered to read this to realise that they themselves are the enemies of Nigeria who due to their lack of intelligence and the ability to use their brains, are destroying their own nation and creating the painful conditions they wail about. In Yoruba we will say eepa n'pa ara rẹ o ni oun pa aja! But I'll let those who know better than me translate for the non-Yorubas. Thank you RichAbujaGuy and op for posting this. RichAbujaGuy: Great news and two very great citizens!
Okonjo-Iweala meets Buhari, says Nigeria’s share in global trade 0.33% The former finance minister of Nigeria arrived the country Saturday on a five-day working visit, two weeks after she assumed leadership of the global body. ByAgency Report March 15, 2021 3 min read The World Trade Organisation will work to deliver technical assistance, training and quality upgrade to unlock some bottlenecks confronting Nigeria, the director-general, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has said.
Mrs Okonjo-Iweala stated this on Monday in Abuja when she visisted Adeniyi Adebayo, Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment and Minister of State, Mariam Katagum.
She later met with President Muhammadu Buhari. The former finance minister of Nigeria arrived the country Saturday on a five-day working visit, two weeks after she assumed leadership of the global body.
She described WTO as an economic institution that could work with other financial institutions to support investments and technical assistance to mitigate Nigeria’s economic challenges.
She said the WTO was created with World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF), adding that these three institutions, by working together, could deliver a lot.
Mrs Okonjo-Iweala also noted that Nigeria’s share in world trade was 0.33 per cent which showed a small fraction of what Nigeria could do.
“Our share in Africa’s trade is 19 per cent, which is below our share of Africa’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). This means we can turn it around,” she said.
“I like to look at the optimistic side, when I saw this I knew that there was potential for us to do much. And that is the message I want to convey to the country.
“This means that we must step up our action on the economy, we must do better and harder in several ways because of our youth who are waiting for jobs.
“Nigeria needs to focus on adding value on transitioning. We are an oil and gas-based economy, and that has sustained us and still will. But the world is moving away from fossil fuel,” she said.
Mrs Okonjo-Iweala said trade negotiations on agricultural issues were very important for Nigeria adding that the country was active in agriculture and also in the Joint Statement Initiatives, ongoing prolateral negotiations.
According to her, Nigeria is equally involved in E-commerce, services domestic regulations, investment facilitation, micro small and medium enterprises and women in trade.
Mrs Okonjo-Iweala, while stating that Nigeria was 103 out of 167 countries in logistics, advised that it was a potential area Nigeria could invest in to improve its logistics.
She said the country can take advantage of trade within the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
The WTO D-G also noted that WTO was being faced with many challenges and also needs its own reforms to deliver results.
She added that the organisation has not delivered a multilateral round of negotiations in quite a number of years and has the unique opportunity of delivering the fishery subsidy negotiations.
Mr Okonjo-Iweala explained that supporting and finishing the fishery subsidy negotiations was important for the sustainability of our oceans.
Speaking on COVID-19, Okonjo-Iweala said the WTO must contribute more to the solutions of vaccines therapeutics and diagnostics, especially to the poor countries.
On its dispute settlement system that was paralysed, she said it had to discuss with all members including the U.S. on how to make it work again.
She said this was because the rules-based organisation could not continue to make rules if the dispute settlement system did not work.
“Our vision for the WTO is to face these challenges. I hope that Nigeria will take a very active supportive role in helping me to deliver on some of the messages,” she added.
Earlier, Mr Adebayo intimated Mrs Okonjo-Iweala on some of the ministry’s expectations regarding its engagement in ongoing negotiations as it prepared for the WTO Ministerial Conference, scheduled to hold in Geneva in December 2021.
On the ongoing agriculture negotiations, Mr Adebayo said Nigeria was expecting balanced and equitable outcomes that would address the structural causes of insecurity in Net Food Importing Developing Countries (NFIDCs) and Least Developed Countries (LDCs).
On the fisheries subsidies negotiations, the minister noted that the ministry looked forward to outcomes that would result in reduction of overfishing and unsustainable development of the fishing sector of developing countries.
“I also wish to draw your attention to our capacity difficulties which continue to undermine our effective participation in the multilateral trading system.
“While we acknowledge with thanks the capacity-building efforts of WTO around training officers on international trade governance, the need for more targeted technical assistance from the WTO cannot be overemphasised,” he said.
Mr Adebayo appreciated President Buhari for according priority for Nigeria’s participation in the D-G WTO selection process and authorising the deployment of political, diplomatic and other resources.
He said this was to ensure Mrs Okonjo-Iweala’s emergence from the three rounds of consultation as the candidate with the largest support of members to lead the WTO and your subsequent confirmation as D-G by WTO.
Similarly, Mrs Katagum urged the D-G WTO not to forget the commitment to sustain and enhance the ongoing dialogue and action on ‘women in trade’, as a firm believer in the power of trade to lift developing countries, including Nigeria out of poverty.

graciousolo: So, When/Why/How did you become an atheist/agnostic/unbeliever? Its rather amusing that you lump atheist/agnostic/unbeliever together implying they are all one and the same thing which they aren't. I was born an atheist, as in one without a theology or religion, and was fortunate not to have picked one up in the non-Nigerian environment I was born into. My parents had no time for Gods, both being students when I was born, and the society I was born into was in the post-religious scientific stage where even in nursery one was taught to ask "who, what, when, where, how and why", instead of what one must believe, which has obviously made me an unbeliever who seeks with all my heart and soul and mind and being. Moving to Nigeria post nursery was my first introduction to Gods. They sounded like Tom and Jerry, especially when Nigerians use Tom and Jerry as evidence that oyinbo rats talk, but this simply made me start seeking an understanding of what they might mean which meant reading the Quran and Bible myself by my 13th birthday, which further made me an atheist of the sort who did not believe as the Athenians do, which is the origin of the word, except in my case, I definitely could not believe as my fellow Nigerians believed, and still don't. But one cannot deny the evidence that the Words in Books, which is what Nigerians call Jesus Christ, was indeed In the beginning and was with the Gods, so to speak as you'd find if you read Homer or the Egyptian Book of the Dead, and the Word belonged to the Gods, and all things were made by the Word and without the Word was not any thing made that was made. In the Word is life; and the life is the light of humans. And though the light shineth in darkness; those in the darkness comprehended it not. I mean, would we not all be dead if we did not read the little we have read? And can it be said that we fully understand it yet? But its as Jesus is written to have said, ask and knock and seek, as in "who, what, when, where, how and why", with all your heart and soul and mind and being, and you just might understand how Jesus is indeed the Lord, and that one might have been an unbelieving theist all along. |

Kobojunkie: You are still not using your head, are you? The links you provided are to the Old Covenant laws themselves. The Law of Moses/Old Covenant is documented in the 5 books of Moses(Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy). In Deuteronomy 30, the Law, in its entirety was then ratified in Deuteronomy 30.
Now, you claim that some of the laws were amended and I ask you again, where is your evidence of the claimed amendments to the particular laws you continue to claim. Where in the Bible are the amendments documented? So, you have not read the Gospel to learn how Jesus amended those laws, or is it that you do not understand that Jesus amended them? Then I strongly suggest you go read the Gospels instead of making a fool of yourself by asking me to point out to you what you repeatedly claim you trust and obey! |

SmartProf: The content of her speech makes great sense but it won't make any impact cos the leaders we have don't have any plan B on the economy, aside their total dependency on Crude oil. They may even interprete diversifying the economy to mean borrowing from China. The WTO is like school and Okonjo is the new Headmistress. She will set the curriculum and hire the right teachers who will teach our leaders, and more importantly us who elect our leaders, so they and we all may learn. |

oladeebo: ...am not agreed with your view, because the Nigerian in Diaspora have excellent experience to head Nigeria to success. One aspect of experience that we in diaspora lack is the experience we can only have gained in Nigeria which we have not gained in diaspora unless we put in the effort to gain it in Nigeria which most don't bother to first gain. We diasporians must serve an apprenticeship in Nigeria before we can hope to lead. But that's beside the point. Most diasporians fall flat on their faces even before being nominated to run for posts in parties. You just need know the numerous Nigerians who ran home to contest elections to know this. Most are back in the diaspora they came from lamenting how foolish they were to be so easily separated from their money by more wily savvy Nigerians. |

Okonjo-Iweala conceded that despite lifting millions out of poverty, free trade has not been beneficial to all especially women, saying that in recognition of this, the WTO has a deliberate policy to support women. I like the women bit most of all of course, but the bold is like having a champion of the exploited in charge of the army that was attacking them. It sure would be a lot less easy for the powerful to exploit the weak with Okonjo Iweala giving the orders! |

Kobojunkie: Don't simply respond, Think this one through! At what point in History, was Kobojunkie ever a descendant of Jacob(of the bloodline) or even a foreigner living in the land of Israel that Kobojunkie should have been under the Old Covenant Law, to begin with? You think! One might as well claim you don't need to obey Christ neither, since you are neither a Jew nor a Gentile, technically speaking, and only read the Gospels as you read the Old Testament. The fact is, Christ abolished those stupid ancient Old Testament laws, and thankfully, you do not practise them anymore! |

Are you sure about this, kobojunkie? Can you trust and obey Christ and still follow the Old Testament laws I have pointed out Christ abolished in you? Kobojunkie: I don't need to imagine what "Trust and obey" means to anyone. If Jesus Christ, the one who is my Master, the very Word of God Himself, trusted and obeyed the same teachings which He calls His followers to also trust in and obey, what is there to imagine?
Jesus Christ, God's own, calls on us to do as He did - trust and obey the Truth of God. The kingdom we aspire to belongs to Him, and all He asks is that we do as He did, Trust and obey. It is that simple! |

Kobojunkie: So, for evidence you offer a bogus claim born out of ignorance of the truth of what I believe?
Again, this is a tale of 2 different Kingdoms. The sole reason why I do not teach the Old Covenant laws to any one of you here is that I don't myself belong to the Kingdom of Israel, and so not of their Law. Instead, I belong in the Kingdom of Heaven and as a result, espouse the Laws of the Kingdom to which I belong.
Nowhere in that can anyone then conclude that the Law as pertains to the Kingdom of Israel, the other Kingdom has been abolished or modified in any way by my action. Are you claiming the you that I offered as evidence of no more inflicting those sins with those Old Testament laws is "bogus claim born out of ignorance of you", and that you will stone your disobedient son and adulterers to death and will not forgive and forgive and forgive but take an eye for an eye? Have you, kobojunkie, not had these Old Testament laws abolished in yourself by the Jesus Christ you claim you obey who abolished them in you? |
Christianity Etc › Re: The Letters Killeth Without The Spirit. by budaatum: 3:50pm On Mar 15, 2021 |
Kobojunkie: I don't tell anyone to bow down and worship Jesus Christ or the Words He spoke. As Jesus Christ said, instead we are to accept(trust) and obey His teachings/commandments if we want Him and His Father to live inside of us, and become a part of His kingdom.
He, Jesus Christ, obey the very same commandments of His Father that He has given us all, and He asks that do as He did, obey the very same commandments. You fail to imagine that "trust and obey" means the same as "worship", which is precisely what the Pharissees were preaching because they knew it meant "trust and obey themselves", and as the preachers today mean "trust and obey themselves", which is why many pay their tithes to the preacher thinking the preacher deposits it with God, and as you mean "trust and obey kobojunkie", which is what you jump from thread to thread saying but obviously fail to realise because you are God's only mouthpiece who has received the Holy Ghost that no one else has been blessed enough to receive. |
