PRESIDENT, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Sani Abdullahi Lulu, believes that only God can take him away from the federation despite the agitations against his administration from different quarters. The NFF chief also believes that he would continue to lead the federation for as long as possible no matter what his detractors do to unseat him. advertisement Speaking to journalists at his Nigeria 2009 Local Organising Committee's (LOC) office on Tuesday, Lulu said he was satisfied with the progress made by his federation since the present board started leading Nigerian football, adding that the gains of his administration would soon begin to manifest. According to Lulu: "We have tried to raise the standard of Nigerian football to an appreciable level, but it seems some people are bent on bringing us down. But that is unfortunate because people are bent on destroying everything we have done to achieve their selfish interests. "I was not born to be NFF president. God puts me there and no matter what people do, they cannot remove me from the position unless God allows it." On his second term ambition, Lulu said only time would decide if he would bid for another chance to lead the NFF, adding that he was pre-occupied with putting Nigerian football on a sound footing. Taking a look at the national Under-20 team's performance at the Egypt 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup and the criticism that has trailed the team's coach, Samson Siasia since Germany knocked out Nigeria from the competition, Lulu described the embattled coach as one of the good hands in the job. But he added that the Super Eagles former striker needed to mature before he would become a truly great coach. "We will look at the events of the competition to find out what actually happened in Cairo. We do not doubt Siasia's ability, but we need to look at the circumstances that led to the poor outing in Egypt." Lulu also reiterated his belief that Nigeria would qualify for the World Cup ahead of the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia. "We all need to support Nigeria to qualify for the World Cup; but we must do it properly. We should have a way of motivating the players to give their best without necessarily throwing money at them. Money is not everything. It can serve as a big distraction to the boys. What we are doing is to ensure that they are in the right frame of mind to tackle and beat Kenya in our last game," he said. PRESIDENT, Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, Alhaji Sani Lulu Abdullahi has described the country's national Under 20 coach, Samson Siasia as a failure following the ouster of the team from the ongoing FIFA U-20 World Cup, Egypt 2009. Lulu said the former Julius Berger of Lagos player had no excuse not to succeed because he was heavily mobilised and Nigerians were solidly behind him. “Siasia, as far as I know, is a failure in this championship, Egypt 2009. His mandate is to win the trophy for the country. Having won the silver medal before, it becomes imperative for us to task him towards achieving the ultimate which is the gold medal and we made sure we provided him with all he needed''. ''It is wrong of anyone to say that he never had enough time to prepare the team. When he took over the team, he submitted his proposal, which was approved to the letter, and we allowed him to embark on all the training tours he requested for, so, if he did not achieve the target given to him, then, we can say that he is a total failure and which is exactly what he is now”. How do you now tell millions of Nigerians that we made mistakes after giving him (Siasia) our utmost support. This is sad. "If they don't excel, then they have themselves to blame,” he concluded. ![]() www.nigeriaworld.com |

At least 70 people were burnt to death in Nigeria when a fuel tanker exploded, setting fire to five packed minibuses in the southern state of Anambra. Officials told local media the tanker overturned after it hit a pothole on Friday, sparking the massive blaze. They said the death toll could rise as the charred remains of the victims were recovered from the minibuses. A transport official warned that more accidents were likely if nothing was done to improve Nigeria's road network. "If something isn't done quickly, tragedies like this will happen again," Ben Ekenna of the Federal Road Safety Commission was quoted as saying by AFP news agency. He said several other people were badly wounded in the accident and were taken to local hospitals. Accidents on Nigeria's poorly-maintained roads are common NOT AGAIN!! www.bbc.co.uk |

A container full of arms and ammunition has been seized by Nigerian customs officers in Lagos harbour. One person has been arrested and officials are searching for the owner of the arms, which came in from the US. A BBC reporter in Lagos says it has raised concerns about the proliferation of arms ahead of polls in 2011. He says in the past politicians and their backers, known as "political godfathers", have recruited and armed young men to intimidate their rivals. News of the seizure comes days after the end of an amnesty in the oil-rich Niger Delta, where the government has been urging militants to hand in their weapons. Analysts say many of the area's militant groups were originally armed by political godfathers. Officers of the Nigeria Customs Service say they intercepted the 40ft (12m) container while carrying out routine inspection at Apapa port in Lagos. The BBC's Fidelis Mbah in Lagos says it is not the first shipment to be found this year. In June two ships loaded with weapons were impounded by Nigeria's navy in the southern port of Calabar. A third vessel escaped to sea. www.bbc.co.uk -[ OH MY DEAR COUNTRY NIGERIA WHERE ARE WE HEADING TOOO |
