I didn't see join a club on my App. I used the help centre, it says because I am on Leaderboards.

Congrats to everyone getting their AMs. We hope everyone gets to post their interview and AM dates throughout the year and especially once Winter admissions start coming.

So, to learning Deutsch, since that is all I do these days. I've created a group called Nairaland on Duolingo for those who wanna learn German (which I assume is all of us since we need the language to succeed in Germany). To join you can use the code J3FXM7. Duolingo is free and this group is just a fun way to stay competitive as we learn the language, sort of an incentive to keep learning especially for those of not not yet in Deutschland. Joining is pretty straightforward with the code above. If you're confused, google 'how to join a club on Duolingo'.

Ps: 30 days into using the app, I can already form quite a few sentences and have short conversations. As someone said, you have a huge advantage learning the language or at least becoming farmiliar with it before you arrive the country. Happy Learning!

Whao....this is awesome. Thanks so much, I am joining right away. Duolingo has been telling me "you are all alone" for some time now.

Hi everyone!

So I stumbled upon this site late last year and it's been AMAZING, I've laughed, dragged people, been dragged, learned a lot and contributed the little I know, made really great friends who I'd love to have forever. On here I made friends who helped me every step of the way, whenever I had issues (I MEAN SOMEONE I'VE NEVER MET HELPED ME GET AN INTERVIEW DATE) and to all of them I say thank you, it's been wonderful meeting you all.

Now that I'm done speaking English and making sure my degree fees have been well spent, here's my time-line :
Interview date: 11th February
AM: 12th March (7:24 am) I spilled my tea!
Sent passport and insurance : 14th March.

Hoping to get all back next week, all the best to everyone expecting a response.

This is quite explicit and informative. Thank you dolpaz.
dolpaz:

Hi bro,

Pregnancy is a blessing from God. so first, accept my heartfelt congratulations. now to the real challenge. If I may get you right, both you and your wife studied the same course and would like to proceed to Germany to study together and start a new life. well, Its a good choice if you ask me but the financial implication would likely cut off your pocket when you finally find yourself here. I don´t know your age but obviously, your wife and new born baby will be on a Gesetzliche Familien krankenversicherung (Public Family Insurance). A single guy/girl below 30 years old pays an average of 90€ monthly (over 38k Naira) and this COMPULSORY in Germany. This mean as a family, you guys would likely be placed on the Public family health insurance which could cost as much as 300€ (over 120k naira) every month. So, lets assume you´re over 30, you could still get insured on Private health insurance which is very cheap Around 30€ (12k monthly) but your kid and wife would be on a public insurance. The difference between Private and Public is the fact that If you attend any clinic or hospital for treatment, you pay direct cash and the Private Insurance pays you back after submission of treatment and payment receipt, but for Public Insurance, you don´t pay any dime. Just submit your card and the rest will be sorted between the hospital and the Insurance coy.

Secondly, Its risky coming with SL. reason is because you ain´t gonna start wokring Imediately you get to Germany. So, the moment anyone offers to sponsor you, then he´s saddled with every financial responsibilty accrued to you. So if your wife comes and deliver a baby, mehn, that Guy/lady don enter one chance. He/she has to take care of the family because he has signed a Letter of Declaration of support. and If he erred, his permanent residency could be revoked. Also, as a married man, I wouldn´t advice you to use SL. Since you´ll be enjoying full benefits of the insurance and other stuffs, I´d advice you and your wife to fund with blocked account so you can settle well into the system. I know it´s not easy but trust me, you´ll understand the importance of this when your finally arrive here.

Also, If you decide to use SL alone, You´ll still have to come to DE with at least 3k. The first couple of months, You´ll pay Semester fees, House rent, Kaution, Insurance, Feeding and other valaubles. The three most important payment monthly in Germany is House rent, Insurance and Feeding. So imagine spending at least 400-450 monthly for 3 months prior to getting a job.

Secondly, Your wife can go for her interview In as much the Pregnancy is not visible. With my calculation, You´re going for winter and not summer. This mean your wife will be heavily pregnant hence, it´ll limit her chances of coming for studies cos she´ll be in her Tri-Semester and this means less/reduced stress for her usw.

So much to explain but here´s my opinion and advice.

Channel all your energy to come here first (If your body fit hold am smiley ). By next year, your wedding will be 2 years according to you. Submit your wedding certificate with your child birth certificate during your interview. When you get to DE, work and study and ensure to make a certain threshold. Apply for family reunion and your wife will join you with your baby. If the family reunion visa is granted, your wife would be able to work 24/7 because her visa is a Family reunion visa (§ 29 AufenthG Familiennachzug) while yours is different because you´re on student residency permit (aufenthaltsgenehmigung § 16) with 120 full days or 240 Half days to work. Remember when your family is here, You´ll need a 3 bedroom flat for yourself.. A room must be set aside for each child except they are of the same sex.. You´ll have to feed them, clothes them, and do some shopping.. Bro, you´ll be spending close to 1200€ monthly. and this is an outrageous amount for a student here in DE.

I hope I´ve been able to pass some message across and you can understand me better.

Phew, I have typed so much. This post will go a long way to guide anyone who plans to come with family/pregnancy.

Wishing everyone success in their Pursuit.

Good afternoon house. Thanks to those that encouraged me, I had my interview on Monday. The V.O was a fair lady in the first box, she was quite antagonistic but I was able to remain coordinated. Transcript below:

V.O: Took my documents and visa fee
V.O: Why are you going to Germany
Me: To study
V.O: Looking through my documents, you are married (with surprise)
Me: Yes
V.O: Do you have children
Me: Yes
V.O: How many?
Me: Two
V.O: Hmm!! You are leaving your husband and children to go to Germany
Me: Yes, this is not the first time I have been away. I worked in one of the Eastern States for over nine months last year and I have a consent letter from my husband to travel.
V.O: What do you do for a living?
Me: I am Management Consultant
V.O: Have you funded?
Me: No, I will fund soon
V.O: So what do you want me to do now (grumbling)? She brought out a paper for me to sign stating I will send my proof of funding later.
Me: I didn't say anything. I signed and gave her a copy.
V.O: Why is there no original admission letter in your documents
Me: I only received the admission letter by email
V.O: Why is the admission letter titled informal?
Me: That was how the school sent it to me.
V.O: What course are you going to study?
Me: Development Economics
V.O: Why this course?
Me: My undergraduate degree was in Economics and I will like to gain an advanced knowledge of the subject to prepare me for my future goal of venturing into Economic Consulting.
V.O: Why Germany?
Me: Germany offers high quality education at zero tuition
V.O: Why not US or UK?
Me: Tuition fee is quite high in those countries and also, learning a second language in Germany will be an added advantage for me.
V.O: What you know about Germany?
Me: Told her what I know
V.O: What do you intend to do when you return to Nigeria
Me: Set up an Economic Consulting firm and also venture into politics sometime in the future.
V.O: What was your undergraduate thesis topic?
Me: The Efficiency of Government Expenditure on Education and Health in Nigeria.
V.O: The interview is over.
Me: Thank you.

Please I sent you a pm, could you get back to me as I have some questions
Travel / Re: General German Student Visa Enquiries Part 5 by bukolaakin: 9:11am On Feb 04, 2019
Thank you so much. From my experience with the school, they don't defer admission. I will explore all options between now and a week before my interview and see what is feasible.
Opinionator:

Please don't cancel. Anything can happen from now till few weeks after your interview.
Also, do you trust yourself enough not to spend the money before winter? What of unforeseen circumstances? . I believe 900K is realizable even without the loan option. Try more individuals and sell something if you must.
But if you must cancel the interview date, do it at least a week beforehand. If your school can defer the admission, then that's fine.
Travel / Re: General German Student Visa Enquiries Part 5 by bukolaakin: 8:27am On Feb 04, 2019
Good morning house. Please i need opinions of gurus in the house.

I have my interviewed booked for 18th of Feb but it is highly unlikely that i will be able to fund before or few weeks after. My funds is short of 900k Naira which I have an option of a loan facility from a credit company but the interest scares me (3.9% per month).

Another angle is that I have 2 boys and I plan to bring them over afterwards. My fear is that repaying a loan while working in Germany might affect the timeline I have to bring my boys over.

I am considering cancelling my appointment and reapplying during winter semester. That time my funds will be ready and I won't need any loan.

Please I need good advice as I am in a state of confusion. Thank you.
