freshalien: I sincerely feel for the religious ones in this country and Africa in general because religion is the biggest scam in the history of mankind especially Christianity. Even the white people who brought Christianity to our ancestors do not practice it today because they know it is all rubbish, filled with lies, deceit and too many inconsistencies.
Let me enlighten you if you disagree. Do you know there was no ‘Garden of Eden’? It was just a story told by the Jews, their own version the origin of the world, just as many civilizations such as the Egyptians, Greeks, Romans, Kushites, e.t.c had their own stories of creation.
Also do you know that Job never existed. Yes the so-called faithful man in the bible. He never existed. Just another story told by the Jews. There are many more I cannot write here.
Wake up my people! Wake up!
More industries, science and tech facilities, less churches and mosques. That is the only way forward for Nigeria. That's a lie. The whites still practice Christianity |

It was a kind of nationalisation method so that Nigerians can get more opportunities.

BluntTheApostle: Do you know how much it costs to preserve a single artefact?
About 750 dollars per 3-dimensional object every 6 hours. And there are hundreds of those artefacts.
We don't even have preservation materials, which means we would be importing them.
It also costs money to store them. Although not much money; around 30 dollars a year.
Where will the Oba get all that money? From the state government which struggles to make something out of limited allocations, or the FG which is battling inflation and post-recession challenges?
Bring those artefacts to Nigeria, and watch them disintegrate or lose their gloss in a year. Some of those artifacts were over 200 years old when they were looted. Please was it the Europeans that preserved it for the over 200years after its creation? Una go just dey yarn okpata because of internet |

royal231: If you go all round even down to Cameroon they all did bronze artifacts..
So we're all artworks looted by the whites? Where are the art works from itsekiri.. Uhrobo.. Ijaws.. And other tribes around Benin..
And Benin always had their own share because you give what belongs to ceaser to ceaser..
Yes they can still do it till now because the fame it generated.. People will always come to Benin for the bronze.. Irrespective of if the looted artifacts were returned or not..
Cheers.. But its better of under the Government.. In the sense that it should be in a place accessible to everyone..
But the royal family will have to see its daily maintenance and so..
So I think it shouldn't be inside the Palace.. Because if u put it inside Palace it will be there for just the royal family and most of his psychophants..
But if its public.. Everyone will start knowing the truth about our country.. And it's history's..
Secondly those artifacts were looted due to a reason.. If that same thing repeats you know say na Nigerian soilders go enter this time..
Aboki no send.. So its better the royal family work out something with state govt and leave federal govt out Ignorance is a disease. See as you are now shifting goal post. Oga, each place has its own unique technique of casting. The benins own is unique to them. Stop trying to bring down their culture just to make yourself feel equal or superior to them |
Politics › Re: FG To Take Possession Of Looted Benin Bronze When Returned From Germany by Bundaweber: 12:49am On Jul 18, 2021 |
nextstep: First of all, I firmly think the artifacts should be put under the custody of the Oba. However, the Oba has no legal standing on the matter, and can only get what he is given by the Nigerian State:
1. FG routinely takes the money of people who have passed away, as do most governments around the world.
2. The Kingdom of Benin was annexed by the British Empire in 1897. In other words, it ceased to exist - as in, it passed away.
3. The artifacts legally belong - unfortunately - to the inheritor of British Empire - i.e. Nigeria.
4. The last Oba of Benin Kingdom- Ovonramwen - died in 1914, but his throne was never restored to him. His son, grandson and now great-grandson, are allowed to keep their title and status as traditional rulers in modern-day Nigeria, at the pleasure of the FG. (Note the intentional use of the word allowed).
NOTE: they are called "Oba of Benin", but not "Oba of Benin Kingdom" because that kingdom no longer exists. One cannot be a kingdom unless sovereign.
It's all unfortunate and I don't like it at all, but there you are. Nope!!!! Up till the land use act, who was the custodian of lands ? |

InvertedHammer: / If you ask me, I will say "Leave them in Germany".
The State Government can sign bilateral agreement with the museum in Germany and get a certain percentage (70%) from the proceeds of exhibition. Why? Because Nigerians do not place values on anything. The looted Bronze will be placed where it will be left unkept and yield no income for the people/government of Edo State. Our maintenance culture is inexistent. In all, lose:lose for every party involved. One day Oba's palace go burn and the artifacts will go with the inferno.
/ I find your submission laughable. Are you now saying that the creators of those artifacts cannot maintain their own creation? Those artifacts were already hundreds of years old in the obas palace before they were looted |

nextstep: The artifacts belong to the sovereign in the land, which is currently the Federal Government.
Yes, they were taken from Benin Kingdom, but that kingdom has long ceased to be sovereign, and so it falls to FG to own these artifacts.
If Benin wants to collect, it should become its own kingdom again, independent from Nigeria.
As for the state of Edo, it has no say in the matter. Is there a Benin monarchy in existence? Yes or no Is the current Benin monarchy a direct descendant and successor of the Benin Kingdom of yore? Yes or no |

CSTRR: To be fair, I think the obaseki idea would have been the best.
He wanted to create a museum to display these beautiful arts to generate revenue for the state.
The oba wanted it in his palace where it would be probably be under restrictions, and all revenues will go to him alone.
Lai Muhammed will probably put it in his office, because I don't know if there is any federal museum in place. If obaseki is really serious about revenue from tourism, he would have ; 1. Ensure security in the state 2. Restored the Benin moats and walls(which would generate even more revenue) 3.funded the proposed archeological ecavation @iso and other places of interest. |

Lescalier: This simply means both the palace and the State govt will make individual proposals to the FG and the FG will decide what to do to the artifacts.
The State government has a better plan for the artifacts with the Edo Museum for West African Arts.
I bet even some other States, especially the Lagos museum, will benefit and have a share from the almost 2,000 pieces. Excuse me? Why should the Lagos museum have a share of the Benin artifacts? If obaseki is really serious about culture, let him restore the Benin moats and walls. At least those are under his jurisdiction |

Afam4eva: I really don't understand why people are sentimental and bias about this issue.
It makes more sense for the Edo state Government to keep it since where the bronzes were taken are now under their jurisdiction.
The reason it should not be handed over to the Oba of Benin is because the traditional system has no recognized role under the constitution and there are no checks and balances to check the excesses of the traditional body. For instance, what stops the present Oba from keeping those bronzes as his personal property if handed over to him. Those artifacts are the personal property of the oba. It is the oba that commissions the bronze carver to do the works for him. It and I repeat it is the property of the Benin monarchy |

9jaRealist: How is it humanly possible to cram so much IGNORANCE into one article? Mr. Bako must be the sort of “seasoned economists” that have been in charge of the hapless Nigerian economy.
First, the NNPC is planning to take 20% in SIX private refineries, not just Dangote’s… See this Reuters article: https://www.reuters.com/article/nigeria-refinery-equity-idAFL2N2NI1QL’
Nonetheless, as already discussed here on Nairaland, Dangote is NOT HAPPY with the proposed acquisition… See the following thread: https://www.nairaland.com/6626446/mele-kyari-refinery-dangote-not
Meanwhile, Dangote Refinery BOUGHT (not gifted) forex from the CBN forex window… At the OFFICIAL rate that it’s sold to ALL companies in the real sector (not to mention for school fees, travel, health tourism, etc.).
The obtuse drivel about costing and delays merely amplifies this dude’s cluelessness. No other refinery project elsewhere involves reclaiming land bigger than Victoria Island and building a virtual port, because Apapa cannot handle the equipment for this project. Furthermore, dude seems clueless that Covid disrupted value-chains GLOBALLY (or does he think the equipment is manufactured in Nigeria) and consequently delayed most (if not ALL) large-scale infrastructure projects around the world.
Finally, debt to build a refinery would be long-term… Therefore, it is SILLY to peddle beer-parlor rumors about banks already calling in their loans.
So many Nigerians love to attack success while celebrating mediocrity and failure… Whether it is due to primordial ethnic sentiments, envy or just darn right IGNORANCE, it’s a succinct self-indictment! > succinctly put!! Thank you. I was reading the article and I thought I was in an alternate reality |
