Then when he realizes that it'll take 3 years of massive deductions from his salary to pay for a tokumbo car, he begins to realize that just maybe, he arrived at a destination below his level.

A lot of these folks will give their lower-grade graduated college classmates the 'stink-eye' until they actually begin to realize the meaning of the word J.O.B (Just Over Broke).
Then they run into those guys who've probably gone on to battle their demons and emerge successful businessmen and CEOs and the realization sets in that in present day Nigeria, cramming theories and formulae to get good grades and a job without getting accustomed to the nitty-gritty of the professional/business environment where one intends to succeed will only get you so far.

Sadly, too many of these people have a twisted mentality that life is a part of school.

They should have told you back in school that this is the next advisable step after graduation. I'm in construction and the only question I've ever been asked is, "where did you study?" The next thing you'll hear is the client's brief and if you can get the job done.
