Hello, you shouldn't be saddened because of comments from Nairalanders, most of those who rush to comment and talk down/bully others here are actually jobless and intricately unemployable.
So, don't let this weigh you down, truth is there are millions of Nigerian youths round the world who are excelling from the formal to the informal sector.
Take the good, ignore the bad, advance in your pursuit of happiness.
Cheers.
Exactly. You got that right.

Beautiful nonsense, what happens when you can't get d employment after 7yrs of searching angry sit at home idle ba mumu op

If everyone tolls ur reasoning there won't b any opportunity to b employee again BC d employers r entrepreneurs
Exactly. In the developed world(which we strive so much to be like), private businesses are the biggest employers while the government is the smallest. The small bakery behind your house employs 12 people, the ice cream shop next door employs 4, that restaurant employs 10. However in 9ja, it's either Dangote or the leper on the street begging for N10.
Abeg, let me go out. My market survey today has to do with rural areas close to where I stay. 2 local govts to cover today. Wish me luck abeg.

I have a friend who retired and moved to Abuja. He gets about $8,000/month from his 401k, social security and Roth IRA. That is about N2.4m every month for the rest of his life for not doing anything. He has houses and cars from his paid employment. He is currently a salesperson for a SA solar company to keep body and soul together. At 70, what else can one pray for. His medical needs are covered. That's a good deal. And he wasn't an entrepreneur.
\
You see?! Do you now know the millions of Nigerian graduates earning 12k to 20k per month without pension (please ask around) for the past 10 years with absolutely no prospects of ending up like your very okay friend? Now compare what they'd ever achieve with such a reality, to the thousands of women frying Akara by the road side (they are not considered entrepreneurs by the way) who have been able to put their kids through schools with proper education after years of hard work and consistently taking mitigated risks?

When we say entrepreneurship/paid employment the tendency is to see a Dangote/Alex Otti divide as against a failure. What I am stressing is that we don't have to ignore the thousands of small success stories between just to score a point.

You are only operating on your level.

Kweku Adoboli for example was earning $700k/yr equivalent in a year as an employee. There are many people in their early 20S earning more. And they are considered middle class. Let me see you beat that record with your successful entrepreneurship.
\
You see, this is why there's so much unhappiness in the country today as most of you go through life thinking it's some kind of competition with others. No vision.
Of course you are right. I am operating at my level and at any point in time I want to keep operating within my capabilities. You see friend, the question is, what do you want from life? A lot of Nigerian youths do not get to ask this and walk blindly into a hard life of living by certain standards which they think society has set for them. So for you, it has to be $700k/yr or failure. ...and so it goes for many others, all the while missing the most important business of enjoying life. What works for Mr. A, works for Mr. A and what works for Mr. B works for Mr. B. Now why Mr. C is soooooo concerned about why Mr. B isn't living like Mr. A, instead of finding out what works for Mr. C, is one of the reasons why we are having this discussion this morning. If we were to go by your $700k/yr analogy, then the number of unsuccessful employees would FAR outweigh the successful ones.
The first question always should be, "What do I want from life."
CareerRe: Ten Reasons Why You Should Be An Employee by caesaraba(m): 6:55am On Jan 25, 2016
There's something many first time entrepreneurs get wrong at the first try, and that is working with a mental stop loss (FX trading taught me this). This helped when my first business failed as I walked away still doing much better than most of my employed peers were/are. Everywhere there are stories of failed entrepreneurs but what some fail to realize is that some of those failed entrepreneurs already have assets which would take contemporaries in paid employment 2 decades to acquire.
I remember applying for my first and only job last year and immediately I got called for an interview and started talking, I aced it, got shortlisted but may not be taking up the offer as I prepare to venture out again. Do you know how many loans it takes for the average employee to buy a car? How many more to buy a piece of land? ...and how long it takes to pay them back? Yes there are successful employees and most often than not, those are the ones with the entrepreneurial spirit and at first glance they do not look like the type of employees this OP is referring to. Entrepreneurship isn't necessarily about Mark Zuckarberg or the failed Laundry business in your neihgbourhood. There are millions of those who are doing well in-between.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with being an employee (in fact, it is quite honorable) but please, enough of the NL topics discouraging entrepreneurs/businessmen, most of y'all are currently paying rent to one.
If you do not have the mental and money capital to start up a venture, by all means go into paid employment. However, if you are like me and willing to take a risk and make profit/mitigated loss(moving your business stop loss to break even as you grow, jump in).
The first question any young person must ask themselves in this country is, "Have I woken up to the Nigerian situation?"

I was on that road earlier today and I can confirm that, traffic was already building as at around 7 when I was there.

I left onitsha 5am on the dot and I got to berger, Lagos by 12noon.

From what I can confirm, the reason for the traffic IS the mad rush by everyone and everybody, switching lanes indiscriminately in the hope to getting to the east "shortly"

At the end, "they are all stuck
lol. Penny wise, pound foolish. Instead of just hugging the slow pace of the traffic till everyone makes it out. Na too much "sharp-sharp" the cause this kind thing true true.

My girlfriend of a few years now did, and she has not posted a nairaland topic on my matter yet.

With all the hard to get and 14 asking outs, you go still see topic in 2 weeks; 'all boys are wicked"

Most serious people would not want you to accept them out of pity, or frustration, thus they will end proposal as soon as they sense a firm NO. Most of the "you must be in my life boys" are just liking the figure and wanting to get under the skirt or inside the trousers.

I don't even have time for all this wooing ladies rubbish self. Asked girlfriend out after being friends for a while.

I just don't wake up and leave my home with the goal of wooing any lady.

Last bullet: it's not pride, I can't ask a girl out twice, especially after a strong no. I do not see any reason why I should.
Chop knuckle.

Hey pals, if you have read my previous post https://www.nairaland.com/2738913/love-employee you will remember i was crushing on one of my female worker.

After i hastily made my intentions known to her, I was given those kind of funny attitude ladies display when not interested.

On a one on one discussion, she said she will not date me for two reasons. 1. because i am her boss and 2. because she has a boyfriend.

Okay, i totally respect her decision but i realized her attitude changed. She sometimes arrives late to work, flirt with my costumers to make me jealous. The final straw that broke the camel back is when i was scolding my other worker for her mistakes and complains am getting from my customers about her.

What i heard was this my employee i had crush on saying to me with boldness that i dont have to talk to her that way. I was shocked to my bone marrow that i ordered her to keep quit and leave my presence.

After i got home, i could not stop thinking about her rude bahaviour. I almost payed her off today but the sympathetic me decide to keep her till month end.

Pls friends , what do u think about my intended plan?
After reading your first thread, I don't know why but I have this uncontrollable urge to slap you. Don't put your reputation on the line like this next time by mixing business and pleasure (hardly ever works). Fire her but keep it at the back of your mind that it was all your fault. Draw a line over it and move on.

Nollywood contributed a lot to this problem o. Emeka Ike graduates, undergoes NYSC while living in a Duplex with 3 Cars to choose from. 6 months later he is the owner of that tall Blue-Glassed skyscraper in Lagos they always show.
