Ahaps! Na you know why you decide ship in G4. To transfer that cost on to the buyer is gonna be quite a hard sell. Nice ride though. |

Twoboys: Transparency? So why and how where they dismissed? Mitigation? This are youths who just got training in arms/weapon handling, being thrown out into the unemployment market. What are the implication on society and what's the mitigation? At least, if a few of these guys could get together and and form a group, get one or two sponsors and put their weapons training to use just randomly killing a few innocent Nigerians consistently for the next few months, a committee would be set up to grant them amnesty and put them on a monthly payroll twice what they would have earned as legal recruits. This sounds like a mere wish, however, this is fast becoming our reality in this country. |

funlord:

They should park well after all their appointment was a political appointment! No merit in most cases! See the protest numbers sef like say dem wan buy akara! They should park well because you have more rights than them as regards being a citizen of Nigeria? Those are people fighting for their rights. Every recruitment is political until the name of your loved one shows up on the list. Nonsense. ...and oh! Before you get all emotional, I don't know anyone who got enrolled in the process. It's only logical that you don't cancel a process just because it was carried out by a previous administration. Except the PDP/APC e-battles have taken up any available space for commonsense in your head, you will agree that there is nothing wrong with Nigerian youths who feel disenfranchised, fighting for their rights. |

Lagishan: How many other people that dropped out from school made it compared to those that finished their education and end up comfortable? That question is best answered 10-15 years after you graduate and run into those you thought would be eating grass for the rest of their lives simply because they were 'weak' students during your 4 years together in school. In our society today, there are too many people walking about who absolutely believe that life is a part of school. How sad. |

christinie: You are surprised I asked huh?
I asked because they are making it appear better than real estate but you and I know that it is not. Honestly this isn't a real estate vs Treasury Bill thread. What if we all started comparing various low-risk investment options available in the world? It'd defeat the purpose of this thread. Enough of the derailing already. Create a separate thread for arguments please. Seun abeg do something about this biko so we can all concentrate on T-bills, auction dates, compounding strategies et al. |

coderXO: Thus, those here putting money into these bills here should be putting their money into their businesses rather. Unless of course, not everyone owns a business. Even if they did, a whole lot of startup businesses wouldnt turn a profit in the first 3 years and they still require a hands-on approach from business -savvy individuals. T-bills just let your money do the work while you can face other things. |

coderXO: It is worthwhile to know the pros and cons.
Some are sounding as though TBills are fool-and-error-proof investments.
Trust me, in some cases and a weak economy, you are just offsetting price inflation at the end of your bill/bond term. You will agree with me though that a lot of people know the pros of real estate, however, if we are being practical as regards this thread and a lot of us, there aren't that many who can readily raise the high capital required to develop profitable real estate and still "stand well" (if you get my meaning) for the short/medium term. T-bills work for a lot of folks (minimum risk/hassle-free) and if more people were informed on how it worked, many would gladly go with this form of investment. |

AmeLonRo: I want a simple clarification please.
On TB 91 days is what %= 1/4 of stated % 182 days is what % = 1/2 of stated % 364 days is what %= complete stated % When they say 13.85%, it refers the to the % accruable upon maturity on a 364 day period just like in fix dep. |
Investment › Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by caesaraba(m): 5:25pm On Sep 24, 2015 |
Naijainvestor: Reinvestment risk is the risk of not finding appropriate investment when one investment matures. If you invest in FGN Bond with 15% coupon for example and maturity of 25 years, you are assured of the 15% for that period whether interest rate goes up or down.
On the other hand if you invest in TBill that pays 15% for 364 days, you are not sure you will get another one with similar interest after 364 days. That is what reinvestment risk is all about To compare coupon bond with a discount instrument, you need to calculate the bond equivalent yield otherwise you will be comparing apples and oranges
I may not be able to show you how to calculate it here as it involves many steps but I have it calculated for all TBills and may post it on the web site for Quantitative Financial Analytics That would be awesome. Thank you so much. |
Investment › Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by caesaraba(m): 4:59pm On Sep 24, 2015 |
Naijainvestor: You cannot compare TBill and Bonds just like that. To do the comparison you have to calculate the bond equivalent yield for the TBill You also assumed that you will get the TB at 14% for the entire 5 years which is most unlikely You forgot that TBills have higher reinvestment risk than bonds
Good try though Please can you explain more on the bolded? I'm planning to put something away soon with the hope of holding for 20 years min. Which would you advise? TBills or FGN Bonds? I've always thought TBills but clarification is needed on that "higher reinvestment risk" you stated. Thanks. |
