CelebritiesRe: Facts About Prophet T. B. Joshua by Canisma(m): 2:52pm On Jul 10, 2013
Those people claiming to have tested the spirit behind T.B Joshua should also present themselves so that we could also test the spirits behind them. You dream and see snakes and masquerades in the night, yet you come here to claim to be able to test a pastor's spirit, instead of going for deliverance. T.B Joshua haters are just annoying. Mtcheew

Christianity EtcWhy Tithing Is Wrong Today. by Canisma(op): 10:32am On May 05, 2013
ANY PASTOR COLLECTING MONEY AS TITHE IS A THIEF. According to the scriptures, money is not acceptable as tithe; it has to be food-crops or livestock.

As far as many pastors are concerned, the most important scripture of all is not to be found in the word of Jesus. Neither is it even in the New Testament. That scripture says: “‘Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house, and try me now in this,’ says the LORD of hosts, ‘If I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you such blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it.’” (Malachi 3:10).

This scripture is drummed repeatedly into Christians on Sundays.

However, the only time Jesus mentioned tithing in scripture, he pointed out that it was not a weighty matter of the law. (Matthew 23:23). Hebrews says people only receive tithes “according to the law.” (Hebrews 7:5). It then insists tithing (and everything else under the law) has been annulled: “The former regulation is set aside because it was weak and useless.” (Hebrews 7:18-19). Nevertheless, mercenary pastors continue to insist on the payment of tithes.

*Latter-day Pharisees

Jesus rebuked the Pharisees for keeping part instead of the whole law. (Matthew 23:23). That is what tithe-collecting pastors do today. If we insist our congregants must pay tithes, we must also insist that they keep the rest of the law. James says: “Whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all.” (James 2:10). Therefore, if we insist on tithing, we should also refrain from eating pork. We should stone adulterers, execute homosexuals, kill Sabbath violators and restore blood-sacrifices.

Tithe-collecting pastors counter this by maintaining the payment of tithes pre-dated the law. Here Abraham is cited as the cardinal example of someone who paid tithes before the promulgation of the Law of Moses, as did Jacob, his grandson. However, such arguments are disingenuous.

Before the law, tithing was at best an example but not a commandment. Moreover, pastors fail to mention that Abraham only tithed once in his lifetime. When he did, he did not even tithe his own money: he tithed the spoils of war. He gave ten percent of the plunder he took when he rescued Lot to Melchisedec, king of Salem. But then he did not even keep the rest but returned it (all ninety percent) to the king of Sodom.

For his part, Jacob also tithed only once. He did this in a “let’s make a deal” arrangement he offered to God: “Jacob made a vow, saying, ‘If God will be with me, and keep me in this way that I am going, and give me bread to eat and clothing to put on, so that I come back to my father’s house in peace, then the LORD shall be my God. And this stone which I have set as a pillar shall be God’s house, and of all that you give me I will surely give a tenth to you.’” (Genesis 28:20-22).

This kind of deal about accepting God only under certain self-serving conditions should certainly not be a term of reference for any serious believer.

*Lies upon lies

The first lie pastors tell Christians is what some have referred to as “the eleventh commandment:” “Thou shalt pay thy tithes to thy local church.” But the bible says no such thing. The storehouse of Malachi was not a church. It was a place where food was kept.
Pastors hide from church-members the fact that money was not acceptable as tithe. The tithe was a tenth of the seed and fruit of the land and of the animals which ate of the land. (Leviticus 27:30-32). That is why God says: “Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be FOOD in my house.” (Malachi 3:10). He does not say “that there may be MONEY in my house.” The food was used to feed the Levites, the poor, widows, orphans and strangers.

Pastors also conveniently fail to teach the biblical tithe. The principles of tithing were not laid down by Malachi. They were laid down by Moses. The study of Moses’ guidelines quickly reveals that the biblical tithe has no application whatsoever to Christians and is mischievously violated by tithe-collecting pastors today.

According to the Law of Moses, the tithe was divided into three allocations. The first year, it was given to the Levite. The second year, it was given to widows, orphans and the poor. The third year, it was eaten in the company of the faithful before the Lord as thanksgiving for his faithfulness. (Deuteronomy 14:22-28). In the seventh year, there was no planting and no reaping and therefore no tithing.

So the next time your pastor asks you to pay tithe, ask him about the seventh-year reprieve. Also ask him if you can give your tithe to the orphanage, or bring it as food items to be eaten in church. Believe me; he will not agree with you because it is your money he is after.
Inapplicability of tithes.

Tithing was only applicable to Jews and to the land of Israel. When large populations of Jews lived in Babylon, Ammon, Moab, Egypt, and Syria, these lands became tithe-able lands. However, tithes were not acceptable from strictly Gentile lands. So you need to ask your pastor how come he is collecting tithes in Nigeria.
Servants or slaves who worked on the land did not tithe because the land did not belong to them. Since only agricultural and animal resources were included, a fisherman gave no tithe of his fisheries. Neither did a miner or a carpenter pay tithes, nor anyone from the various professional occupations. So if you are not a farmer or a keeper of livestock, tell your 419 pastor tithing is biblically inapplicable to you.
Moreover, the only people authorised to receive tithes were the Levites. (Hebrews 7:5). So if your Pastor is a “tithe-collector,” ask him if he happens to be a Jew. Remind him that, even though a Jew, Jesus could not receive the tithe because he was not from the tribe of Levi but from that of Judah.

The trick, of course, is for pastors today to claim we are “Levites.” If your pastor is one such dissembler, ask him if he lives as a Levite. Remind him that Levites had no land and did not have private property.

Ask him also how he knows he is from the tribe of Levi, which happens to be one of the lost tribes of Israel. Point out to him that even Jewish rabbis don’t claim to be Levites today because all Jewish genealogical records were lost with the destruction of the Temple in AD 70, ensuring that it is no longer possible to ascertain the true identity of Levites.

Therefore, if Jews no longer tithe because the Levites are a lost tribe, how can Christian pastors collect tithes when we are not even Jewish, how much more Levites? If Jewish rabbis, whose terms of reference remain the Old Testament no longer collect tithes, then pastors who insist Christians are under a New Testament have no business doing so.

The conclusion then is inescapable. Every pastor who collects tithes is nothing but “a thief and a robber.” (John 10:1).

Ok, nice club.
My question is; do the marriages of those who have paid the fine remain tight afterwards or do the couple go for divorce ?
This club is just out to break marriages.
Every man who has made money tends to be an adulterer, including the so called club's president.
How many women would proudly come out to complain about her husband's escapades, without hurting her home ?

I'm just guessing that the men in the club just introduced to checkmate their wives from their activities with SUGAR BOYS in Abuja.
While the men wants to be enjoying themselves codedly, they ve just introduced their "cage" for their wives.
Many villages have done that Spiritually.

Its becoming more difficult by the day for one to stick to one sexual partner for long time, talkmore of a lifetime.

The biggest challenge of marriage is FIDELITY.
The new generation hormones are not helping matters at all.. At all.
RomanceRe: How Faithful Are You In Your Relationship? by Canisma(m): 5:29pm On Feb 19, 2013
Faithfulness is not a concept in friendship, in the real sense.
Only a naïve youth would date one partner in this generation.
As a youth, there is no harm in sampling as that would help you to arrive at a better choice.
If you exhaust all your faithfulness "might" in mere relationship, how then are you gonna cope with marriage that demands a lifetime fidelity.
In order to be faithful in marriage in the future, you must enjoy your time as a youth. Lest, you start misbehaving at a wrong moment.

Only the matured minds would catch my drift.

Christianity EtcRe: TB Joshua Resigns From Announcing Football Prophecies by Canisma(m):
This Prophet T.B Joshua is the only rich General Overseer that does not own a private jet,,, yet
Nigerians do not want to respect him for that.
Later, they ll blame GEJ for acquiring multiple aircrafts.

Some people ask what God has to do with football, yet they hypocritically call on God to help them in every little thing they do.

This man is hated for no just reason.
He is hated because he is T.B Joshua.

They say his miracle is set-up... But when they see people really getting healed in the church, they turned around to say that he uses the highest level of demonic powers to heal people.
Can a kingdom divided against itself stand ?

They say his over-whelming charity work is just a publicity stunt, yet every year, we see thousand of
Indigent People from different works of life being turned into men and women of substance by this same prophet. Onazi, Super Eagles No. 17, is a good example.

Oh no, my people, the Devil would not have done all these.
If we still doubt this prophet's authenticity, please let me ask;
What does it take to be a REAL MAN OF GOD from Almighty God himself ?

Is it in buying private jets, in the name of facilitating the gospel ?
Or is it in building church universities which the church members could not afford ?
Or is it in slapping an innocent girl whom perhaps, a demon was speaking thru her... I thought the bible said that "We wrestle not against flesh and blood" ?

Oh my brothers and sisters, let us open our eyes to the reality as regards this man, Prophet T.B Joshua. Even if you ve been thinking bad about him in the past, just develop a neutral mind from now onwards... Its not your fault,, The Propaganda is too much.

I once thought so bad about him until I took a close look at him via emmanuel t.v.
Why don't you do the same, beloved.
Don't dwell on hear-say... Investigate by yourself.

May God Bless You all.

The T.B Joshua that I ve observed does not grant interviews anyhow.
So my question is;
Where did he say this ?
Was there a Friday service that occasioned him to say this ?
Could he had granted interviews to p.m news alone twice now within two weeks
Just for football predictions ?
.
I don't want to believe that this is his interview.
P.m news is using this to attract traffic to their website.
But unfortunately, someone is being lied against here.

PoliticsSomething To Be Proud Of About Nigerians. by Canisma(op): 6:31pm On Feb 05, 2013
LOVE NIGERIANS AND I AM PROUD OF NIGERIANS!
I have always said it to everyone that cares to listen that Nigerians are the best people in the world.
The most united, hard working, descent and patriotic citizens.
Little things unite us and give us joy.
.
I took time out with friends to watch the super eagles match, though i was not hoping for a win, just to catch fun outside. Fortunately, Nigeria won and instantly, all the animosity, anger and worry that greeted the poor performance of the supper eagles before now disappeared.
I saw joy, happiness, jubilation and unity. No one cared to know who is Igbo, Hausa or Yoruba, No one cared to know who is a Christian, Muslim or pagan. The joy overtook everyone.
I have insisted that Nigerians are better people, hard working, peace loving and descent than citizens of the UK, USA and other European countries.
The only thing that is wrong with us is frustrations, poverty, hunger and sufferings in the midst of plenty.
Consider these facts;
.
1. If citizens of the UK, USA and other European countries were exposed to the kind of frustration, punishments, hunger and injustice the way Nigerians are being exposed to, they will kill themselves in one day, cause untold havoc and brutality to each other and the whole country, but here we are hungry, brutalized, treated unjustly and still smiling and intermittently happy.
.
2. In the UK, USA and other European countries, Nigerians are the ones that work round the clock, conduct themselves peacefully and in respect of the law. I have never heard in the news when a Nigerian citizens carried a gun and started shooting and killing people for no just cause or just for being angry like the UK, USA and citizens of other European countries do.
.
3. Nigerians care about their neighbour more than citizens of the UK, USA and other European countries. some times Oyibo behaves like mumu, especially UK citizens. for instance, If a Nigerian snores while sleeping, he will consciously refuse not to sleep in public so he doesnt disturb other, but try and sit next to an Oyibo that is Orobo in UK in a train or bus. he/she will sleep and snore like mumu not minding that someone is close. Does he/she care?
.
On the day of Dana crash and many other disasters, Nigerians all turned to fire fighters with water trying to save the victims of the crash not minding whether they are Yoruba, Hausa or Igbo. Many people fighting to save the victims have never flown and cannot afford to fly, but they cared. Oyibo will just pass and call 999 to come and attend to the situation.
.
But today, it looks like Nigerians are wicked people, lazy people and people without unity just because our greedy leaders have frustrated, punished and stricken us mad. Nigerians are not asking for so much, All we ask for is constant power supply, good roads, good hospitals, quality education, security and justice for all, Job for the youths and support to all. We are not asking to be given food and credit like the government in the UK, USA and other European citizens do to their lazy citizens. We are hard working people, all we need is an enabling environment to work. God have blessed us with enormous resources. when i listened to David Cameron criticize president Jonathan as regards the huge natural resources that we have and they are looting.
i saw it clearly that Cameron was being jealous of our natural resources and would wish it belongs to them, but here we are with the natural resources and huge revenue suffering in the hands of selfish leaders who loot and take what they cannot even use forever.
Nigerians arise and say no to stealing, looting and incompetent leadership and it shall be well with all of us.
God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
I love Nigerians and i am proud of Nigerians.

Every team of human endeavour needs a spiritual leader and Enyeama seems to be one for the super eagles. In case you never know, we prayed our way in this same way to the Olympic Gold.
So take a chill pill.
Let me add here that prayers can also be a psychological boost to players cos they ll feel confident of being backed by a super-natural force, thereby bringing out the determination in them.
Let's stop behaving as if our own ways of doing things are inferior to others.
Let's brand our style of doing things and watch the whole world copy us.

PoliticsThe North Is Nigeria's Ultimate Problem by Canisma(op): 5:21pm On Feb 04, 2013
Following from the recent warnings by
prominent Northerners, especially Sheikh
Ahamd Abubakar Gumi, of the alleged Igbo
domination of the Nigerian Army, the
Northern Senators Forum met at the
weekend, to deliberate on the issue.

Am wondering why they are meeting just in respect of d army. I think they should sit to find out why the most decorated Nigerian player is Kanu Nwankwo, then sit to find out why the only Nigerian 2times africa footballer of the year is Kanu. Find out why out of the 4 nigerian winners of the award 2 are Igbos. Then meet again to find out y only 3 Nigerians have won d prestigious UEFA champions league, and 2 of them are Igbo, KANU and MIKEL OBI, the third is Finidi george. Y is there no Northerner there. Then they should sit again to find out why the only Nigerian club to have won the CAF champions league is ENYIMBA of Aba,an Igbo team, the peoples elephant won it a second time proving the first wasn't a fluke. The Northern forum should sit to find out why The only Nigerian to have won the Women's African footballer of the year a record 4 times is PERPECTUA IJEOMA NWOCHA, an Igbo lady.

The Northern Senators should as well meet over the present Super eagles currently in the Semi Finals of the Nations Cup. 11 out of the 23 players in South Africa are from the Igbo extraction. They should also set up an inquiry to find out why the goal scored in match between Ivory Coast and Nigeria were scored by Igbos.

Born to rule mentality is so dangerous. Nigeria is indeed a conquered territory of Usman Dan Fodio.

T.B Joshua only prophecies death death death

I laughed when I read comments from some people about T.b Joshua, they only news they wanna hear is good news.... ''you will live long'', ''you will build house next year'', ''you will marry''
Come on lets face the truth here, a prophet who says only what you want to hear is no prophet, a lot of pastors prophecy good to you because thats what they know you would want to hear... have you ever wandered what God has to say to you?

A lot of people says he sees only bad thing, thats a big lie...the truth is that he does the good one but the media wouldnt publicize it.. the bad ones are only publicize to warn people.... Tb Joshua went as far as warning Goodluck Jonathan about the plane crash but it went into deaf ears..

As a man of God, isnt he suppose to pray to stop it? My dear, Tb Joshua is just a man like us, the difference is the power of God in him....how can he pray when no one believes him? secondly, he has no power no stop nothing, even Jesus wasnt able to stop HIS own death..

In the Bible, there were about 400 prophets who prophesied good to a king, the king always wanted to hear good, so the prophets always told him what he wanted to hear. There was a day he was going to war, he asked his 400prophets if he was going to be victorious, for sure they said yes but he wasn't convinced enough, he asked if there was another prophet in town and all the prophets looked at each other, ''yes, but my king, that prophet only sees bad things''
But the king wanted to hear from him, he invited the prophet.. As usual, when asked, the prophet said he was going to loose in the war and adviced him not to go.... when he said that, the other prophets mocked him, ''you see my king, he only sees bad things''
To cut the story short, the king went and never came back alive, now tell me..how do you want the prophet to pray against his death when the man himself never believed?

Beware of false prophet... when we talk about false prophet a lot of people think about Tb Joshua... why do you think Tb Joshua is a false prophet? Is it because of the miracles he does, or is it that you believe only satan can be able tto perform such miralcles? Do you believe in God? why is it that when ever someone performs miracle you call it fake?
Are you trying to say God can't do miracles too? so I ask you not to judge.

Jesus warned us against false prophet, for Jesus Himself to have warned us, it means it will be very hard to detect a false prophet, He wants us to be careful.... now, everyone pointing hands at TB Joshua, isnt it obvious that if that man was fake you wouldnt even know, you wouldn't even suspect at all..... for Jesus to have warned us, it means that it will be hard to identify a fake prophet..
Now don't you think satan is trying to turn God's word upside down?
Why is everyone pointing at Tb Joshua?
Is he one of the false prophets the Bible the Bible was talking about? Believe me, if he was, you wouldn't even know.. satan has a way of hiding things.

Believe, there are a lot of false prophets in 9ja, that doesnt mean there are no real ones.... by their fruit you shall know them.. what bad fruit have you seen in Tb Joshua??

coolkris: Whats app is more consumer friendly cos whats app is not a phone chauvinist that selects phones unlike bbm which is strictly for bb users only
The above said,
BBM is still fun though I prefer whatsapp.
But again,
To all the BB haters,
Imagine browsing for 30 days straight without having to check if your mega byte has finished or not.
Now that's Greatness !!!
This factor alone makes BB to tower all other phones that I ve heard being mentioned in other BB
Bashing threads on NL.
Its like drinking your favourite beer along with some sweet dry meat with neither the meat nor the beer ever finishing.
Now how about dat ?

NIGERIA IS THE ONLY COUNTRY WHERE GOD IS STILL DOING MIRACLES, YET......

Only in Nigeria would a graduate do thanksgiving to God for getting a job. This is because it takes a miracle to secure employment in Nigeria. It means students go to school everyday without hope.

Only in Nigeria do people do thanksgiving for being promoted at their jobs.

In Nigeria people do testimony for getting visa. In Nigeria people thank God for the miracle of recovery from their sickness. Nigerians express happy new month at the end of every month. All these because nothing normal is expected to happen in Nigeria.

In Nigeria people do thanksgiving for journey mercies because only God could save us from the terror of bad roads.

Child delivery in Nigeria deserves special thanksgiving. Being fully recovered from a surgery is a call for testimony for God's miracle because it is not normal in Nigeria for people to come home alive from the hospital. No drugs, no electricity, no equipments and too much fees for a poor person.

In Nigeria students come back from holidays to do special thanksgiving because their relatives treated them well, because it is not normal to be treated well by family and relatives.

In Nigeria it is a miracle to be successful in business. Hence each month after paying your tithes you have to do thanksgiving offering because God is prospering you. This because Nigerian businesses are predicated on rogue practices.

Only in Nigeria God does not have a resting day. Government on week days. Students with their survival struggles during the day. Pastors on weekends. Kidnappers all around the clock. The government operates evily 26 hours everyday. The poor keeps awake all night. God has to continue doing or working miracles to keep a person alive.

The irony, Nigeria herself does not know God.

Understanding Today's Relationships.
My ears now itch whenever i hear guys complaining about how materialistic girls SEEM TO BE. It tells me that so many folks do not really understand what having a girlfriend in our today world entails.

Now im laughing my ass off as i write this
cos i can see the ripples its gonna cause...

Almost every guy is in search of
A woman who would love him for WHO HE IS
and not
WHAT HE IS.

They just dont get it.
It is not possible for someone to love you for who you are..... IMPOSSIBLE !!!

In philosophy,
who you are is your NOUMENA
while
what you are is your PHENOMENA.

The "noumena" is hidden from the grasp of the human mind.
All we see and know about ourselves and people is the PHENOMENA.

And what is our phenomena ?

*Your kind of job
*If you re a graduate or not
*Your family background
*Your earning power
*If you re a car owner
*If you re handsome
TO MENTION A FEW..

Your Noumena include;
* How lucky your star is, both present and future
* Your life span
* The personalities of your unborn children
* How wise you truely are, not how wise people think you are
* How healthy you are
*How much of an evil we carry in our minds, that is, How good and bad we really are * Our past lives
TO MENTION A FEW..

Now do you see how difficult it is for someone else to know who you are ?

By the above,
some of us dont even know who we are.
YES indeed !!

So coming back to relationships,
we see that women are only after the phenomena.
And do you blame them ?
Oh no, by now you shouldn't.

If you dont have a car and maybe you re managing a low income job, and you re dating a beautiful queen.
And on top of it,
you find it difficult to buy her cream, give her bulk money for her hair-do and help her sometimes financially. But in the long run when a car-owning-richer guy comes her way to give her all these and more, WHAT WOULD YOU REALLY EXPECT FROM HER ?

The truth has been told,
ROMANCE without FINANCE oftentimes turns out to be NUISANCE... Lmao

Sticking to reality, we ve realised that Relationship is not for broke guys. If you re broke, dont seek to have a girlfriend please.
Lest you experience something that would make you hate women forever. And you ll only be hurting yourselves and other innocent girls. Especially, In a time when boyfriends are now expected to completely TAKE CARE OF THEIR GIRLFRIENDS.

So do not be offended when ladies ask you,
WHAT DO YOU DO FOR A LIVING ?
That question is not a joke. Lol

I can hear someone yell,
MONEY IS NOT EVERYTHING.
But then, the book of Ecclesiastes 10:19 says that MONEY ANSWERETH ALL THINGS.

After God almighty,
you see MONEY.

Therefore, dont ever under-estimate something that would make an old man to bow and call a young man like CANICE DIM, Sir !!! Lmao
- MONEY.

It is indispensable in relationships.
It is equally indispensable in marriages.

It gives power to the weak.
It bestows virtual wisdom to the foolish.
When acquired in an evil way, the acquiree does not know rest.
Yet,
they say it is the root of all evil.

Finally,
it is true that some women can love you truely without money.
But know it that Erotic Love does not last forever.
IT HAS AN EXPIRY DATE.
Infact, the cure for erotic love is Marriage.
Married men would explain that better. Lol
Only money can postpone this expiry date that goes with Erotic love and even keep extending it to the furthest possible time.

As a goodbye wave, i say . . . Shalom !!

But always remember,
If You Dont Take Care Of Her,
Someone will....
PoliticsMr. President Is Denying Us - Aides by Canisma(op): 12:48pm On Nov 19, 2012
Two officials of the Nigerian presidency have accused President Goodluck Jonathan of having "peddled falsehood" at Sunday's presidential media chat.

The officials, who requested that their
names be withheld so they are not
victimized, rose in stout defence of
presidential spokesman, Reuben Abati,
who made policy announcements
President Jonathan denied on Sunday.

"It has just struck some of us that this
President is not an honourable man," one
of the officials said this morning. "I can
confirm to you, and I think I should know,
that the President approves every policy
statement Dr. Abati releases to the media. It is shocking that he could say
something different on TV." "We just can't understand what came
over the president," another official
fumed. "He told barefaced lies and a lot
of us are ashamed to be working for him.
It means when he asks us to do stuff, he
could turn around to deny us tomorrow. It is unfortunate."

Mr. Jonathan had on Sunday contradicted
some policy announcements made to the
media by his spokesperson. During the media chat that lasted two
hours, the president contradicted what
his aides, particularly his Special Adviser
on Media and Publicity, Reuben Abati,
said on the issue of power, the first lady's
health, and security.

Power

On Wednesday, November 14, Mr. Abati
released a press statement to the media
on behalf of the president in which he
said the president cancelled the
transmission contract awarded to
Manitoba. "Mr. President has cancelled the Manitoba
power contract with immediate effect,"
Mr. Abati said in the statement, a claim
Mr. Jonathan has denied. "Manitoba contract has not been
revoked," the president said Sunday,
explaining that his administration
observed that the company "did not
follow the law strictly," when it got the
contract. Manitoba Hydro, a Canadian state-owned
firm, emerged the highest bidder, in
April, to manage Nigeria's transmission
network, under the Transmission
Company of Nigeria, for three years. But Mr. Abati later announced that the
contract had been cancelled.

But when the matter was raised
yesterday, Mr. Jonathan said the contract
was never cancelled but is being
regularized as due process was not fully
followed in the award. Presidential aides however said the Mr.
Jonathan ordered the contract cancelled,
and then instructed Mr. Abati to release a
statement on the matter.

Security

After reports emerged that a man
claiming to be a spokesman for the
dreaded Boko Haram made a call to
journalists stating the group's willingness
to negotiate with the Federal Government
under some conditions, Mr. Abati again said the government was already having
some form of discussion with the Boko
Haram group. On Sunday, August 26, Mr. Abati told State
House correspondents that the
government was in talks with the Boko
Haram through "backroom channels." "When government says it is already
talking to Boko Haram, the form of that
dialogue must be properly understood. "The form of the dialogue is that
backroom channels are being used to
reach across with the sole objective of
understanding what exactly the
grievances of these persons are," Mr.
Abati said. Three months later, on Monday November
12, Mr. Abati again confirmed to Punch
Newspapers that the government was in
talks with the sect. "I can confirm to you that talks are
ongoing at the background. But the talks
are not the kinds being envisaged by
Nigerians," Mr. Abati said. "The ongoing
talk is a back channel one in which those
who know members of the group are talking with them on behalf of the
government."

President Jonathan has dismissed Mr.
Abati's claims. "There is no dialogue between the Boko
Haram and government," Mr. Jonathan
said during the media chat. "Boko Haram is still operating under
cover, they wear masks, there is no face.
They operate under cover. No dialogue
that is going on anywhere," Mr. Jonathan
said.

Patience's illness

The President also confirmed that the
first lady, Patience Jonathan, was ill and
treated abroad contrary to presidential
aide's claims that she only travelled
abroad to rest. Ayo Osinlu, a media aide to Mrs. Jonathan,
told journalists on September 3 that the
first lady was not sick but travelled out of
the country to take a "moment's rest." "If you look at her itinerary in August, you
would be wondering how she was able to
accomplish that. In the course of this
week, she will be back home. But
remember, it all depends on her plans,"
Mr. Osinlu told Punch Newspapers. Mr. Abati also denied the first lady's
illness describing it as a rumour.
