ROSSIKE: Thousands who went before you promised similar fairytales of sainthood. WE'LL BELIEVE YOU WHEN WE SEE YOU IN OFFICE. Till then, kindly park well.

Dude, African economies are among the fastest growing on earth today, Nigeria including. The African middle class has ballooned from 30 million in the 70s when your favourite statist dictatorships were in place, to over 300 million today, a third of the African population. In all indices of development, we have PROGRESSED on the continent since the 70s. There is much more to be done, but we're getting there.

Wake up into the real world. You're stuck in 1975. This is 2013:

''Fidel Castro has announced that the Cuban government will lay off 500,000 state workers in 6 months and allow more private sector jobs to flood the economy. The move comes after recent comments by Castro that the Cuban strictly communist method of economics was not working.

Castro's official labor union, CTC, released a statement announcing the surprising change in policy.

"Our state cannot and should not continue maintaining companies, productive entities and services with inflated payrolls and losses that
damage our economy and result counterproductive, create bad habits and distort workers' conduct," said the CTC in newspapers around the country.

The move may be both welcome and despised by Cubans. For many, the decision offers hope to those that wish to earn more than the $20 monthly average income. But others fear that jobs once guaranteed by the communist government will now be a thing of the past.

Regardless, Casto's sudden shift of thinking have many wondering if the government is starting to embrace capitalism.''

http://www.sodahead.com/united-states/will-cuba-become-capitalist/question-1222437/

Britain is a neo-liberal capitalist state to the HILT. The NHS and welfare state are merely attempts to cushion their intensely capitalistic policies. As we speak, they are placing severe curbs on welfare, and squeezing their free health care policies to cater to only the most needy. Their system, for all its wealth, simply cannot sustain such policies. Same applies to nations across Europe. In the next 20 years, the welfare state could be a thing of the past in Europe.

Socialism has FAILED. Nobody practices it except North Korea. And they've been unable to create a ''just and fair society''. Cuba has a one leg in one leg out approach, and their human rights record is appalling.

Cuba is a dictatorship responsible for the death and exile of hundreds of thousands of innocent people. Cuba is a place you can be picked up for criticising the dicator, and shot. Nearly 80,000 Cubans are estimated to have died trying to flee the country by sea.

The Human Rights Watch alleges the Cuban govt "represses nearly all forms of political dissent" and that "Cubans are systematically denied basic rights to free expression, association, assembly, privacy, movement, and due process of law".

Cuba had the second-highest number of imprisoned journalists of any nation in 2008 (the People's Republic of China had the highest) according to various sources, including the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), an international NGO, and Human Rights Watch. As a result of ownership restrictions, computer ownership rates are among the world's lowest. The right to use the Internet is granted only to selected locations and they may be monitored. Connecting to the Internet illegally can lead to a five-year prison sentence.
Cuban dissidents who commit crimes face arrest and imprisonment. In the 1990s, Human Rights Watch reported that Cuba's extensive prison system, one of the largest in Latin America, consists of some 40 maximum-security prisons, 30 minimum-security prisons, and over 200 work camps. According to Human Rights Watch, political prisoners, along with the rest of Cuba's prison population, are confined to jails with substandard and unhealthy conditions''

So CAP28, How many Nigerians do you expect to be tortured and killed to keep up your favourite political system?

Oh please shut up. If the govt ''does nothing but steal from its people'', how come you are educated? Why didn't they steal the money that was used to educate you and countless tens of millions of Nigerians since the post colonial era? At least they've done far better than your ''socialist British govt'' who ruled Nigeria and did nothing but loot, leaving us with 7% literacy at independence. That figure is now 75% courtesy of the Nigerian govt's investment in education. So thank your lucky stars you were born under Nigerian rule, and save us your pompous, holier than thou, Saint Michael bullshiit.

Nigeria is filled with MILLIONS of businesses, large and small. The govt continues to create various incentives to businesses - power supply improvements, shortening drastically the time and cost of registering a business, infrastructural improvements - road, rail, airports, telecoms improvements, banking sector reforms etc etc.

Did walmart not start out as one man and his wife's company? Why don't you start your own walmart and grow it to become a $20 billion quoted company instead of disturbing us?

So you don't have the $15 billion. Yet you are angry that the govt is allowing companies with such resources to invest in Nigeria. So we should all wait for YOU cap28 to start your own walmart and grow it for 100 years before we can build an Eko Atlantic filled with top level companies?

You really must be on strong drink.

The joke is on you, clown.
Rossike im gonna give you this - you are an intelligent man but the main problem with you is you just love lying to yourself, i actually enjoy reading your posts but one thing i hate about you is that even when the truth is staring you in the face you keep on lying to yourself, there are some incontrovertible truths that you have refused to come to terms with and this is why i find it difficult to debate you, why are you determined to keep defending a group of theiving bandits whose only interest is to continue to loot and destroy their own nation, i mean it is obvious to the most naive mind that fashola, tinubu and goodluck are puppets of america and britain and yet you have continued to keep lying to yourself that these people mean well for nigeria - why? i mean i've read some of your posts and i know you are not a s.tupid person therefore my only conclusion is that you must be one of their paid agents , which is quite sad and a complete and utter waste of your god given intelligence.

i will respond to the points you made above at a later date.

ROSSIKE: Look Mr Man, I can school you on Haiti's history. Of course they were sabotaged by the USA and France. What the hell has that got to do with Eko Atlantic City?

No. Haiti was brought to its knees because right from her independence in 1804, she was forced to pay over 80% of her annual earnings to France as 'compensation' for the latter's loss of 'her' territory. Payments that only stopped in the 1960s. In addition to the fact that US marines helped topple at least two democratically elected leaders of that country, to install kleptocratic dictators.

Those are the main causes of Haiti's condition.
Haiti was reduced to an economic basket case by way of economic enslavement - nigeria is being reduced to an economic basket case by way of economic enslavement. America has invested in Haiti in the same way that it is planning on investing in nigeria - the money only flows in one direction - out of the exploited country and into the coffers of european and american banks and corporations.

ROSSIKE: Saint Michael. I'm sure if they put you in power you'd be clean as a whistle.
of course i would, but im not suprised that you do not expect much from your leaders as you are used to being shafted on a regular basis by your govt.

Compound idio.t, ''neo-liberal policies'' are what EVERY NATION ON EARTH is practicing, or looking to practice. Even Iran, Cuba, Russia and China. The only exception is North Korea.
You like to pretend that you know it all but im afraid the above statement gives you away as just another sheep with herd mentality - does it mean that nigeria must simply follow an economic policy created by a group of US economists simply because every other nation has been corralled into adopting that policy, have you any idea of the damage these policies have inflicted on various african economies? and dumbo, Cuba is definitely not implementing neo liberal economic policies infact its failure to implement such policies enabled it to provide free health care and education to its citizens, britain has been operating a combination of neo liberal and socialist economic policies only in the last 30 years hence the creation of the NHS and the welfare state in the 1940s so your statement that every nation on the earth is practising it is complete bollocks.

So what are you suggesting? That Nigeria goes communist or socialist like North Korea? Are you a communist? Sorry, your system has been tried and has failed spectacularly around the world. One African nation that tried to do away with ''neo liberal policies'' and embrace socialism was Tanzania, under Julius Nyerere. It was a spectacular failure from which they're yet to fully recover, 30 years after the event. Is this what you're recommending for Nigeria?
i am advocating a system which creates a fair and just society and right now socialism is the closest to such a system - a society where no child has to go to bed starving, where the state can not just bulldoze your home and leave you to become a destitute overnight, a state that puts in place a social safety net to ensure that no one is homeless, illiterate , or unemployed, cuba has successfully run a socialist state since the 1950s and its been able to provide free healthcare and education to all its citizens -something capitalist nigeria has failed woefully to do since its adoption of SAP and other neo liberal economic policies.
Chavez has been able to provide free healthcare and educattion to the citizens of his country with oil revenues, he has also nationalised venezuela's oil industry ensuring a fairer and more equitable system for his people - this is something that was unheard of when the previous theiving elite were running Venezuela.

And speaking of spectacular failures, europe and america are currently facing the worst economic crisis since the 1920s as a result of the complete and utter failure of capitalism, therefore i think it is a bit rich of you to dismiss socialism as a failure when the failures of capitalism are staring you right in the face.

Why don't YOU work towards setting up YOUR own factory at the FTZ and employ Nigerians and pay them decent wages?

WHO STOPPED YOU, OR DID FASHOLA SAY ONLY AMERICAN COMPANIES CAN BUY LAND THERE?

All YOU can do is snipe from the sidelines, while doing absolutely NOTHING yourself.

Isn't it better to simply shut up?
the last time i checked it was the responsibility of a govt to implement policies that are in the interest of their populace -it is not my job to create jobs in a country whose govt does nothing but steal from its own people, govts of progressive countries provide incentives for business creation they dont leave it to individuals to do that on their behalf, so you expect me as one individual to compete with multinational corporations like walmart whose operating income is over $20billion and whose net income is over $15 billion for contracts in free trade zones - honestly next time you start calling people dunce take a look in the mirror and you'll see one staring back at you.

Kindly desist from such insults to this country. Thanks.
This is why i regard you as the fool of the century, do you know anything about the history of Haiti and its economy? are you aware that it was the richest french colony until it was destroyed by europe and america after it was emancipated by its former slaves? You like to speak as if you know anything about world history but allyou do is foolishly parrot the shi.t that you learnt at that halfbaked technical college you attended in Aba. Prior to its economic collapse it had a booming economy France actually built its wealth on the Haitian economy - if Haiti were as poor as you are implying do you think the US would set up factories there?

this foreign investment that you ignorantly think is a good thing for nigeria is the reason that Haiti's economy has been brought to its knees and the same thing is planned for nigeria while ignorant wanna be intellectuals like you champion their cause.

obadiah, payless and olumide i want to thank you for being the lone voices of reason in a sea of pure ignorance.

Who are the main beneficiaries of this project? - the nigerian masses or the depraved nigerian politicians?

I dont even want to imagine how much these fools are borrowing from western banks to finance this crap.

Why is it necessary to create another business district in lagos when there is absolutely nothing wrong with the one they already have, what makes this project all the more ridiculous is the gargantuan sums of money that have been poured into it when mainland lagos is still one giant slum. surely the focus should be on delivering the 3 main necessities of life to the people of lagos ie affordable housing, decent education and quality healthcare, but no their no 1 priority is to build an enclave for themselves and their cronies far away from the masses who they despise but love to exploit.

This their elitist enclave will ensure that they along with their partners in crime will no longer have to mix with the poverty stricken teeming masses of lagos who will be out of sight on the mainland battling to keep their heads above water as their lives become increasingly unbearable under the weight of unbearable poverty.

This project is nothing more than a huge slap in the face of millions of lagosians who battle daily to put food on the table, will the nigerian people ever wake up and realise thaat unless they do something about their condition these theiving ba.stards will continue to ra.pe and ra.pe them into the ground.

The Clintons have a lot of investments all over the african continent particularly in the mining industry, and payless you are 100% right with what you said about the fee he charges for public speaking, Tony Blair charges £100,000 for a 1 hour speech. you can see that these people are basically hustlers with zero interest in the welfare of african people. Clinton also has a lot of investments in Haiti and spearheaded the creation of free trade zones there which allowed american multinationals set up sweat shops employing haitians to manufacture goods for export and paying them wages as low as 15cents an hour - all of this is what is planned for nigeria and its people. Their lackey Fashola has already confirmed that free trade zones will be set up in lagos - The US and European multinationals will enjoy huge tax breaks and benefit from the endless supply of cheap nigerian labour, they will make huge profits which will all be remitted back to europe and america with zero investment in nigeria, the only people that will be laughing all the way to the bank will be Fashola and his cronies along with the "foreign investors" who will make the kind of profits they could only dream of in their own countries.

I honestly believe if nigeria can take the lead in the emancipation of the black race with the collaboration of progressive african americans and carribeans eg haitians, jamaicans etc we could become a black super power - look at japan - if you want to understand self belief study the history of japan.

we africans have the intelligence and ability to throw off the shackles of white supremacy but we must first beleive in ourselves and organise - do away with tribalism and other pettiness -- we need to unite as one people in our collective interest - the black race must never end up as a conquered race as was the case with the indigenous people of north america.

Blysss let me let you in on a little secret - the US govt will never back your plan - you know why? because the white supremacists regard anyone of african descent as inferior.

the agenda of the white supremacists who run your country is to perpetuate the world wide domination of their race to the exclusion of people of african descent - SO PUT THAT IN YOUR PIPE AND SMOKE IT.

the idea that the US govt will allow black americans to buy up land in an area (DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO) with mineral deposits valued at over $24 trillion which is more than the combined wealth of the UNITED STATES AND EU is at best the joke of the century.

Blyss: I personally know of many well off Black-Americans and Afro-Caribbeans who have stated that they wouldn't mind moving their families and business operations to Africa and this includes me as well, but one major hang up is a strong lack of acceptance to live under African rule. Now you can call this bigoted or hateful in some other fashion, but in all reality the majority of the reasoning expressed in regard to the issue, were not so much bigoted as apposed to being simply being of a mind set of wanting to fully control the surroundings of their operations.

They basically want to gather up a congregation of middle and upper class black diaspora and buy out a large stretch land from, let say Angola or the DR. Congo, with an agreement for the said land to be fully liberated into the control of the group, to stand as their own independent nation, void of any African natives . They'll bring their money, businesses and such to this land and basically turn it into a progressive utopia of their life back in the Americas.

I mentioned this to a few Africans I associate with, and they found this highly offensive, for various reasons. But I'd like to know what you'all think of such a desire or plan. huh
You've spent the past 400 years living under white supremacist rule where you were stripped of your humanity and reduced to chattel or property but you have a problem living under black african rule - the mind boggles.

It seems you guys have a very short memory and have forgotten about what happened to your people in Liberia, for those who are unaware of the facts here is a brief summary:

the US govt facilitated the voluntary repartriation of african americans to build a black american settler state in liberia

the settlers (black americans) as a result of hundreds of years of brainwashing saw themselves as superior to the indigenous and seperated themselves from the indigenous african people

the US govt capitalised on this and used divide and rule to exploit the natural resources of liberia

the black american freed slaves collaborated with their former slave masters and exploited and oppressed the indigenous liberian people by making them work on rubber plantations on behalf of an american multinational corporation known as Firestone

Firestone appropriated the wealth of Liberia with the help of their black american lackeys who helped them to oppress and exploit the indigenous liberian people.

AFRICAN PEOPLE PLEASE BE ON GUARD - MANY BLACK AMERICANS ARE BRAINWASHED LACKEYS WHO ARE NOTHING MORE THAN AGENTS AND LACKEYS OF THEIR FORMER SLAVE MASTERS, THERE IS NO WAY ANY SELF RESPECTING BLACK AFRICAN COUNTRY WILL ALLOW A GROUP OF SELF HATING BLACK AMERICANS TO COME ON TO THE AFRICAN CONTINENT AND REPEAT WHAT THEY DID IN LIBERIA IN COLLABORATION WITH THEIR FORMER SLAVE MASTERS IN ANOTHER AFRICAN COUNTRY, IMAGINE THE AUDACITY OF THIS HOPELESS BLYSS HAVING THE NERVE TO SUGGEST THAT WE SHOULD SELL OUR SACRED LAND TO THESE SELF HATING IMPOSTERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WE ARE ALREADY AT WAR WITH THE UNITED STATES AFRICOM - WE DO NOT NEED ANY MORE AGENTS OF NEO COLONIALISM TO MAKE THINGS EVEN WORSE.

Blys or whatever you call yourself - we africans are happy to welcome with open arms afrocentric african americans who wish to work with us in unison to defeat the agenda of global white supremacy but self hating lackeys and agents of US and EU colonialism will never be given the time of day, so put that in your pipe and suck it up!

Nigerians are not s.tupid people and we will smoke out all fakes, users, puppets and front men of US/EU colonialism.

Hey bro come on Harriet Harman? That woman couldnt find Peckham on a map - believe! - she is very very upper middle class - her aunt was a countess for christsakes!!she only represents Peckham as an MP bro grin grin:

Harman was born Lesley Harriet Harman in London to Anna Harman (née Spicer), a solicitor, married to a Harley Street physician John Bishop Harman FRCP.[5] Her parents each had non-conformist backgrounds – her grandfather, ophthalmic surgeon Nathaniel Bishop Harman, was a prominent Unitarian[6] and the Spicer family were well known congregationalists. Her aunt was Elizabeth Pakenham, Countess of Longford, and her cousins include writers Lady Antonia Fraser, Rachel Billington, and Thomas Pakenham.[7][dead link]
Harman attended a fee-paying public school, St Paul's Girls' School and then the University of York, where she gained a BA in Politics.
After qualifying as a lawyer, Harman worked for Brent Law Centre in London. Between 1978 and 1982, Harman was employed legal officer for the National Council for Civil Liberties. In this capacity, she was found in contempt of court by Mr Justice Hugh Park.[8] before becoming MP for Peckham in a by-election in 1982. However, Harman took the case to the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg and successfully argued that the prosecution had breached her right to freedom of expression. Harman v United Kingdom is still considered a significant case in British public law.[9]
Harman was later involved in a European Court of Human Rights case against MI5 after it was revealed (during a television interview given) by whistleblower Cathy Massiter in 1984 that personal files were held by MI5 on Harman and on the by then former General Secretary of the NCCL, Patricia Hewitt.[10] They successfully argued that there had been an infringement of their rights because MI5 was not a legally constituted and democratically accountable organisation, this being the minimum standard in democracy.[10] The success of the case led to enactment

shymexx: I had to come back and post a final comment on this thread...

Imagine 18million mad people running around in Nigeria, yet the government hasn't deemed it fit to call it a national tragedy and declare a state of emergence in the country smh... Anyway, what do you expect from a country of 150 million people with only 5million rich/ballin' people, 70million dead-walking people, and the rest are just there for the sake of being there - whilst 500,000people continue to loot and chuck billions of dollars and naira in foreign accounts??

You can keep the pricks who went back - they're only looking for something to steal with the other looters!! The only thing worth going to naija for are the hungry who.res who'll swallow your babies for a nickle!!

The country is so messed up, all our African values have been thrown in the bin and we're now raising who.res, kidnappers, armed robbers, 419ers etc..

Muthaphuck Nigeria!! grin

I'm out, yo!!

*Still crying for naija* cry
grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin

The vast majority of british born nigerians are not interested in returning to nigeria even for a holiday and that is a fact, many are completely westernised in their outlook and will find it almost impossible to adapt in nigeria. I mean returning to do what exactly - there are basics that all human beings want from life: food, shelter, employment, healthcare, education - nigeria is unable to provide any of these basics to its populace, here in the UK the poorest people in society have access to all of these without breaking sweat so why leave that to go to a place where those things are guaranteed only to the rich? Nigeria is a country where only the rich live well and the rich make up less than a fraction of 1% of the population - that is what you call inequality on a staggering level. When you visit places like abuja you see how wide the gap is between the haves and the have nots - why would anyone who has a choice of something better opt to live in such a society?

Here in the UK - if you are poor you can still eat three square meals a day, have access to education, healthcare, employment, and a range of other social services, if you dont have money to go out to the cinema or visit places of interst, you can go to the libraries which are free, museums, parks and many other places of interest. This is an advanced society - you need to see the kind of accomodation that is designated for disabled people in this country - these are places that many so called rich people in nigeria would give their right arm to live in.

Obadiah - i have to respond to your post about earning £50 an hour in this country, how many people do you know that earn that? as one poster correctly stated - minimum wage in this country is £6.80 therefore whoever earns £50 an hour is doing very well indeed because the average salary in the UK is £26,500 as at april 2012.

In order to earn £50 an hour you have to be a highly skilled worker with the kind of skill that very few people have ie medical doctor, lawyer, dentist, journalist etc as you should know very few black people have access to such high paying jobs unless they belong in the above mentioned group as the majority of high paying jobs in this country are undertaken by white people.

The UK is a class based nation - your success in life is determined by - family background ie are your parents middle or working class, the type of school you went to, ie private or govt maintained, how you look and speak - many blacks do not gain access to the best jobs and opportunities because they can not get over the above hurdles.
