FAIL IN LIFE WHEN I WAS JUST A TEENAGER.
LISTENING TO GOSPEL PREACHERS YELL ABOUT PROSPERITY AND AGENTS OF DARKNESS MADE GROWING UP THOUGH FOR ME. THINKING TOO MUCH BECAME MY THING BECAUSE MOTIVATIONAL SPEAKERS WERE ON ONE SIDE OPPOSITE FAMILY AND SOCIETAL PRESSURE.
YOU KNOW WHAT I DID? I SAID "FUC IT. WHAT'S THE WORST THAT WILL HAPPEN?". I SIMPLY STOPPED THINKING TOO MUCH AND MOVED IN THE SAME DIRECTION WITH THE OTHERS WITH MINIMAL INTEREST; ATTEND SCHOOL, GET A DEGREE, AND JUST ALLOW LIFE PLAY OUT. TODAY, I WON'T SAY THAT I'VE MADE IT TO THE VERY TOP BUT I'M ABLE TO TAKE CARE OF MY RESPONSIBILITIES, TO A REASONABLE EXTENT.
IF WE'RE GOING TO CRUMBLE THEN LET US. IT'S JUST US IN THIS EARTH WITH NEITHER DESTINY NOR ASSURANCE SO WHAT'S THE WORST THAT CAN EVER HAPPEN?
JUST GO OUT AND LIVE YOUR LIFE. THINKING ABOUT THESE THINGS IS A SURE WAY TO WASTE YOUR YOUTH.

I'VE LIVED CLOSE TO ONE OF THE BIGGEST HOSPITAL IN THIS CITY FOR 15 YEARS. FROM MY DAYS AS A TODDLER I'VE BEEN A FREQUENT USER OF HOSPITALS MYSELF AND NOW I HAVE BUSINESSES RUNNING WITH SOME OF THEM IN TOWN, AND IT'S NEVER A PLEASURE TO BE THERE. I USED TO WANT THIS PERFECT PERSON TO EXIST AS CHRISTIANS PAINT HIM TO BE, JUST SO HE CAN TAKE SOME OF THESE PAINS AWAY. FROM WHAT MY OWN EYES SEE EVERYDAY HUNDREDS GO THROUGH VERY TERRIBLE SITUATIONS. SHOULD I TALK ABOUT THE BURN VICTIMS? OR THE EMERGENCY SIRENS I HEAR AT LEAST 5 TIMES DAILY? OR THE CHILDREN'S WARD?. BUT THE PERFECT LOVING GOD CONTINUES TO LOOK ON WITH APATHY.
A LONG TIME AGO I LEARNED NOT TO WASTE MY TIME WITH DELUSIONS AND ACCEPT LIFE HOW I SEE IT. IF THERE'S A GOD IT CLEARLY DOESN'T CARE ABOUT US, SO WHY SHOULD I CARE ABOUT IT?

Nights like this when I’m deep in thoughts, I remember Bro Nleme, a man who I knew as a lil boy, who gave me a few things about the faith I profess

However, I would say the faith failed him. Bro Nleme and his beautiful wife didn’t have kids. Oh they prayed, so did we all

Prophecies about their child birth abound like covid 19 infected Wuhan, but like Nigeria’s progress, was never forth coming.

Even though I’d love to say they had kids of their own, they didn’t. They ended up adopting a girl after almost 20 years

After all these years, I lost touch, only to be told by my mother that his only daughter had died after a lengthy battle with an illness, which like a demanding girlfriend, ruined his finances

Shortly after, through my ever willing grapevine, I was updated that Bro Nleme had died, devastated by the despair in losing his only child.

So when people say God never fails, sometimes I think of people like Bro Nleme and ask myself, if God didn’t fail him? If he had to choose, would he have chosen to die like that?

But like all mortals, we cannot question the immortal. We can only try to make sense of it, so we say God knows best

So when people say “everybody go dey alright las las”, I always smile. Nothing is farther from the truth than that. Some will die smiling, some with their eyes open, some with tears rolling their cheeks.

When people give testimonies of how they’re the lone survivor of ghastly accidents, I ask myself about those who died

Because if you judge God’s faithfulness by surviving the accident, it certainly means he failed those who died whilst serving him ardently

Maybe it just makes me a sadist, and like the rest of the congregation, I should focus on the one who survived.
