Juliearth:They'll ask you to buy refreshments for all the lecturers during seminar. Or you even forgot those that will tell you to pay like #70k to English department so they can proof read and correct mistakes for you. |
I mean why should you treat a postgraduate student like an undergraduate. Earlier today a lecturer sent a 40 something year old married man with kids to buy peak milk for him |

2011. Going to work around 6am. Gave my sister in-law a ride. Around Customs Street, Yaba- not far from UNILAG- we saw a melee. Cars screeching. Bedlam. It was too late. I saw the guy. Right in front of our car. With bullets wrapped around him. Like the movies. Except that this was not a movie. Robbers. Fully armed. Shooting everything that moved. Had no time to think. I jumped out of the car. On motion. Forgot my driver. Forgot my sister in-law who sat at the back. Everyone for himself. God for us all. I ran. Under a hail of bullets. Dodging cars that were trying to make a u-turn. Grateful none hit me. I saw a mosque. It was the time of the Muslims call to prayers. I ran into the mosque. All the worshippers scattered. My trousers torn. My sister in-law couldn't escape. She was strapped in her seat belt. Robbers came. Saw her. Ransacked the car. But left her. We lived to tell the story. |
2009. Going to work at Apapa. Coming from Yaba where I lived. Slow moving traffic at Tin Can Coconut. A guy in traffic. Supposedly selling gala or handkerchiefs. Green bag draped around his neck. I was half awake. Time was around 7am. Guy walked to my driver's side. I was seated in front. He knocked the window. Put his hand in his bag. Brought out a gun. Banged on the window. My driver was discombobulated. Elijah was his name. Confused. Scared. The guy thought we were uncooperative. It all happened very fast. He aimed his gun at me. Pulled the trigger. Time wasn't enough to say any prayer. The click was loud. The gun jammed. He looked at the gun. He looked at me. He took another aim. Pulled the trigger again. I was twice lucky. No, I was twice saved. By grace. I saw fear on his face. He started running. Jumped the median. Ran through traffic towards the ocean. I lived to tell the story. |
Had a fatal accident in a bus at Awolowo junction at Bodija. Brake failure with bus on high speed. Somersaulted many times. Finally stopped with tyres in the air. I briefly lost consciousness. Then, I had the morbid fear of being burnt alive. I could see smoke. I crawled out through a window. Bleeding but I didn't even know. I started running. Then, I remembered my friend, DJ Korea was in the bus. I ran back to rescue him. I shouted his name until he crawled out. Six people were cold. Dead. I lived to tell the story. |
Source 1998. A soldier put his gun on my chest during the Abacha years. Led students on aluta. Bonfires everywhere. Soldiers were called out. One pulled out his gun. Face to face. I could feel his breath. The students I led abandoned me.Turned my back and ran. I lived to tell the story |
NPR, NPA, DPR, NASRDA, CBN, FIRS, NCC , NDIC, DSS and so many more is riddled with corruption and is the perfect definition of why Nigeria can never get there . You barely even get to see any advert on recruitment but somehow, they keep recruiting. Between 2018 and 2020, CBN for example recruited 900+ staffs silently, nobody heard pim about it. Many of them others filled them up secretly in the name of “replacement.” Slots are usually reserved for kids and family members of ministers, senators , HOR members and other top politicians . It just make you wonder, how can a common man with good brains get these opportunity? It's just too bad, forget about this country. If you can't leave and seek greener pastures elsewhere where merit is appreciated, start your own business. |

Inspired by this thread https://www.nairaland.com/7266001/woman-spots-herself-photo-husband We've all had that moment when the unbelievable happen and you just have a deep thought, "what a small world it is" I have two memorable moments I won't forget in a hurry. Around 2012 I was driving from Lagos to Kano. I got to a police checkpoint somewhere in Kaduna and I was flagged down. Trust Nigerian police now, they don't joke with their work. I kept on looking at the officer thinking I must have seen him somewhere before, after I was given the pass to move, I reversed, parked and got down. Stared asking him is he at a point in time lived in Lagos, attended so so school etc. Long story short, he happened to be my next door neighbor in bariga during our teenage years. Second was going to the hospital in 2016 after a brief illness. The doctor who attended to me was my lodge mate in the university several years back. |
AgubataAkokwa:You're welcome. |
Are you not tired of the insecurity currently ravaging the country? Are you not tired of the soaring cost of living ? Na when $1=#1,500 you go wise up? Na when them kidnap your mama you go get sense? Na when you beging buy 1 cup of garri for #500 you go tear eye? Do not vote the same old cargoes hungry fr power. They've been tested before an they've failed. Enough is enough. Be Obidient, Vote Peter Obi come 2023. |

lereinter:A warrant officer can never discipline a lieutenant like I've explained severally. But a wise lieutenant will always respect the warrant officer. We have generals saluting and paying compliments to another general. Maj gen saluting another man gen. We have colonels saluting colonels. Majors saluting majors. This is were years of service comes to play. Respect is not only by rank please. Other factors come to play. For example a DSSC Captain is far lower to an RC captain. Levels dey. The latter can command troops, the former cannot command troops and anywhere the former see am, he go pay compliments. So many differences. Even RC captain get levels pass a DSSC colonel. That's a fact. |
