Siena: Pleep, I guessed correctly this is your first car, and I can understand you wanting to put it through it's paces. I've been there, done that.

And as for me not understanding the perspective of a fast driver, you're wrong. I've been driving for well over 25 years. I'm also a confirmed petrolhead, and have built several fast cars (some of which have been magazine featured). I have been to the Nurburgring three times. I'm currently building a DTM race car for next year's season. I run a small specialist garage, and I'm putting together a Motorsport team, hopefully it'll be successful. So there's not much I don't know about the dynamics of a competitive automobile, be it built for the road, track or a compromise between both.

I've also owned over 56 automobiles till date, 43 of them Audi, a couple of BMW, a couple of Toyota, a couple of Volkswagen and the rest mixed.

I don't know how old you are, but you're probably young enough to be my son. So I'm advising you the way I would advise my own children. If you continue down the path you're on now, you could end up doing yourself an injury, or worse.

Good luck.

Could we get a comprehensive list of your machines and reasons why you did away with each one of them.
Just started collecting them myself.
cheers.

Jaji is not a small thing o, senior military officers and foreign miltary personnel are there to train and attend conference, and these people wer lax enough to allow insurgents to get in a blowup a church. simply sad.

PHIPEX: I don't know much about the safety checks it has passed and the ones he's yet to pass but the Standard Organisation of Nigeria Uses Innoson vehicles as its official staff bus. If there is any one that should be concerned about safety checks in Nigeria it should be SON but since SON uses it then I will believe it must have passed those checks you are concerned about.

Still not good enough, do you know the kind of stress/heat/speed tests mercedes/BMW/Toyota and other car brands put their vehicles through before they put them in the showrooms for you to buy?. If you don't value your life and think that the fact that SON uses the bus means that it's safe (crash wise),better think again. After all the bus could have been given to them for free.

hollas2jnr: Thanks a whole lot Mr Siena... The engine's been good after I replaced it with a new CTS. And pls mind not my trouble o, another issue I have is that a 'HOLD' light keeps blinking on my dashboard even after I changed both the transmission fluid and filter but the transmission's been doing fine except that the car jacks a bit sometimes when just accelerating.

I experience this sometimes too, but as far as it doesn't make the car go off while driving, the car is fine. It's just changing gears.

Career / Re: Great Job At A Company With An "Uncool" Brand? by captalex(m): 9:11pm On Nov 25, 2012
In a similar but slightly different position,
Just completed my NYSC and successfully applied for a job in a multinational,my only fear is that would i be able to learn as much as i would want during my stay here against working with a 'local' company that doesn't pay much but you get to work you bum off and in turn learn stuff, or would i become lax and rely on the fact that i'm currently with a 'BIG' brand and be rest assured that future employment wouldn't be a problem.

Sorry I don't use a BB. You don't need to fret bro. I will only advise you to wear a plain sky blue/white shirt with a red/wine tieThose are finance/bank colours. Orange tie/shirt may not be advisable. It has affected some people before. Some companies will not want people that just follow their styles without bringing changes/innovation.
As per your course of study, GT values its IT engineers a lot.
Just identify areas you can function well and how you can be usefulto them. Remember, banking transactions are now computer/IT based. Do not forget to relate your course to banking (highly important). With God's favour, people are not usually dropped at Final Interview...you have come a long way. Best Wishes.

Ednut,How about a green/gold colored tie?

Ednut i'm a computer engineer also, and i heard the interviewers enjoy roasting us(IT guys) about what we could do/offer the bank ,but the only thing that comes to mind is managing ATMs and ensuring security on all online transactions. What else could you guys come up with that is IT related.
And heard the IT guys don't have to close by 10pm like everyone else. (*perks*)
hehehe.

Car Talk / Re: 3 Ways To Avoid A Car Accident by captalex(m): 7:47pm On Nov 25, 2012
I think one of the main ways to avoid accidents is to use your trafficators. In Lagos people just decide all of a sudden to jump in front of you irrespective of the speed you're driving at or the severity of the situation you're in, and just expect you to brake unexpectantly for them. I have seen countless accidents happen because the 'shap' guy refused to trafficate and entered the lane of a fast moving vehicle and ended up damaging both vehicles.
Range rover and Prado drivers are very guilty of this, they feel pushing a V8 behemoth gives them the right to be silly and risk other people's lives.
Abeg, also use seat belt! can't say it enough.

what's silly? This is food we talkin bout!!!!!!!!!!!

@OP, if you have time i advise you first visit a reliable lab to know your general state of health cos all your fear might just needless

Thanks for your suggestions, got my letter to go for medicals today, would go to a different lab first to know my general state of health and also the HR person encouraged me not to drink or eat anything after 9pm of the night before i would go for the test. I thought eating well and drinking lots of water would help to flush out all old materials in one's blood and also ensure that fresh material were running through one's body.
The only thing now would be Two sore thumbs!, one from the special lab the other from the companies prescribed hospital.

Car Talk / Re: Using Of Lacquer Thinner In Gas Tank As A Cat And Injector Cleaner, How Safe? by captalex(m): 9:52pm On Nov 18, 2012
Siena:

Heck, no. I don't race on public roads, not worth the grief. I do track days at various events, and take part in drag racing at Santa Pod, or other shows that are held at various locations throughout the summer.

The only public road I'll give my car all it has is on the unrestricted sections of the Autobahn.

Classic Minis aren't cheap
, especially genuine Mini Coopers. But definitely way cheaper than £4,000, if you have the right contacts. (I do.) wink Not for me though - I like more metal in front of me. The Mini's way too small for me.

You can't be bothered getting speeding tickets when there's a family to feed, i get you.
The autobahn i heard is a racer' dream, a wide and long stretch of tarred asphalt that'll melt the heart of even the "Stig'. Nurburning is cool too, heard they might close it down due to the high maintenance costs.
Wouldn't it be cool to be featured on Topgear or Autocar Siena?
How much Do you think your contacts can get a clean/unmodified mini for me?
What do you mean by you prefer more 'metal in front of you', have you seen the mini scene in the borne identity/supremacy film,Epic!,
That car is very fun to drive, not to even talk the thrills and attention you'll get.
If metal if your things why not go for the american muscle cars:mustangs, chervolets, dodges they never fall short there.
That is just my opinion anyway.
