I have heard many stories of Nigerian airline operators delaying scheduled maintenance and "managing" an aircraft just a bit more.

Complete Naija mentality: "We don try", no need to be the best.

If you are going to fly in Nigeria, fly only Arik Air and Aero Contractors if you really, really, really love your life. They don't cut corners because they have foreign association that forces their Nigerian employees not to cut corners.

Their lack of plane crashes has absolutely nothing to do with Nigerian authorities.

We don't have leaders in Nigeria, we only have public office holders. And no, i don't want to believe there are no worse countries. I know we hate to obey rules. We hate to maintain when we can 'manage'. We hate to be told what to do by someone in uniform because we are unquestionable. We hate to follow due process because it is a complete waste of time and in naija we don't have up to 24 hours a day unlike other nations...ours is probably 15 hours.

So we need to be fast. We need to rush the national cake and embezzle funds for ourselves, our children, our great-grandchildren, our great-grandparents, our great-grand cousins, our great-grand friends, etc.

The blame shouldn't be on only Stella Oduah. I know she is responsible for the aviation sector but Nigerians have poor maintenance culture (even in our homes).

Blame that man that refused to do his job well. Blame that woman that didn't make a good report. Blame that guy that took a bribe and covered things up. Blame Nigerians for voting for/supporting the wrong candidate(s) in all tiers of the government.

5 of those 8 crashes I stated have happened in the last 10 years. No other nation on Earth can claim such "achievement".

I totally agree. Our so-called leaders have been failing us. And i actually think failure is in their DNAs...i mean they can't help it. It's natural to them because they are programmed to fail (no pun intended )

I was about to say this. Which makes me think she was probably expecting the bashing...or maybe she made up the story to prove some points.. or maybe she has strong confidence on her "rights" and beliefs...or maybe she is a spambot...or maybe....just maybe.

Sagamite: No commercial plane flying from or to the UK has crashed fatally due to maintenance issues since 1954. That is roughly 60 years ago.

Nigeria has had 8 in the last 20 years killing probably over 1000 people during that period, all due to the conditions of the planes.

The airline owners are using people's lives as collateral for cutting corners while those suppose to be regulating them are buying bullet-proof cars at 5 times the actual sale prices.

I am not holding brief for Nigerian airlines...far from it. But to think Nigeria is the only country in the world that needs these tips doesn't make sense to me. We have not had it easy over the past few years, i agree. These tips are for every one...black, white, Nigerian, non-Nigerian, Mixed Nigerian or whatever.

Attaching a Nigerian tag to it is not necessary.

@OP, nah...i'm not here to judge you. Some of us here have done worse things. There is no perfect person. Threads like yours get me angry but then we all are not the same.

Be independent. That way nobody would wake up one morning and start calling you names. Live your life as if you don't have a boyfriend to support you. There are girls out there who live fine without the support of a man or parents. If your boyfriend loves you enough, he would support you if he is able to, without you asking for a penny.
