caseless: cara is a year older today!*rolls eyes* Thanks cassie. I appreciate that. You are such a darling. But errrmm...my birthday was six days ago. SIX days...1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 days ago. |
Elliotwiz1: Thanks to all the judges, you pointed out faults in our essays, i think That's the main reason We'll took part in this debate, to know our strong and weak areas, thanks once again......so when will the results be released? Which day and what time, so i don't miss it, not feeling okay now, and my eyes are not comfortable with the light from my phone, please reply as fast as possible so i won't miss it, what time, and date..?Results will be out any moment from now. I can't give a specific time but we are hoping it will be before 9pm. Sorry about your health. |
Thanks uj-sizzle. Those that decided to go "religious" need to be very careful and understand that religion is different from academics. You don't even know the religious beliefs of your readers and/or judges. Don't shoot yourself in the foot. You can support your points with religious examples and books, but don't immerse yourself in it. If this were to be a Sunday School class, i would have understood. Let us all mind how we use words that have the tone of religion. |
Eze Promoe: I reciprocate the kisses, but I still stand my ground, that you should have pre-informed me, so that I will prepare something special for you alone.Hian! Davo93 I love your introduction with Luther’s quote, very powerful and captures your message. It’s a perfect fit. However, you have to use appropriate paragraphs to separate your points. Lumping your points up is not good or encouraging. You also need to watch out for little errors or typos. For instance “calender” instead of “calendar”, “truely” instead of “truly”. It is very important to proof-read. We are prone to make little errors but we also need to keep developing our writing skills. Whatever is worth doing at all is worth doing well. The “age limit” point blew my mind away. Quite impressive. That’s a strong point. However, there was no convincing point to support your proposition of other ways to improve the quality of education, without strike actions except the increase in budgetary allocation to Education. Then, your referencing and citation of quotes weren’t organized. There are different styles of referencing. You can read up on that. Overall, you did well. I’m impressed. You have a great potential in you and you have shown that you can think deep. You can do better than this. I need to feel your fire. When other opportunities come to write, grab them. When you want to write, picture and analyze the situation, take the situation personal, let it charge you up, then start writing. Write as the words pour out, let the fire envelop you, then proof-read. All the best. OLALEREY Even though you broke the rules by posting in bits and pieces, I want to believe it was because you used a mobile device. If this is true, then I must applaud you. I know how difficult it is to type with a mobile device, well done. Just like many others, you didn’t tell us what a Strike action means and the full meanings of ASUU and ASUP. You need to consider that Nairaland is not only for Nigerians or Nigerian students. When you are writing an essay, always consider your reader(s). Avoid tautologies. Use appropriate punctuation marks when necessary. Check your spellings and correct wrong spellings. I do not understand what you mean by political parties using strike actions for their own gains. I like the fact that you proposed other alternatives to Strike actions. However, close to the end of your essay, you proposed strike as a last resort. Isn’t that contradictory? Does that mean you actually support strike actions after all…because in most cases, they are usually used as last resort after negotiations have failed? You can do better than this. Keep writing. I want to see that fire that lawyers use in court rooms in you. Lawyers prove beyond reasonable doubt. As a law student (from your siggy), I know you can do better. Keep the flag flying. All the best. Oluwatola15 Your first line is very important. Avoid tautologies and unnecessary repetitions, wrong spellings, use simple words when necessary. I love your use of words and expression. At the 8th paragraph, you wrote, “To start with…” Does that mean you haven’t started all along? Please be careful of your choice of words. You can replace that with, “For instance…” The examples are not really convincing…more like historical background of great figures. I think we need to differentiate between brilliant/intelligent people and geniuses. Lots of examples, no reference. That’s not too good. Your conclusion is impressive. Overall, it’s a good write up. Brilliant essay. You can also do better than this. Keep writing. All the best. Aliciakeys What a brilliant introduction! Many of us never knew how “genius” came about. Thanks for educating us. Good use of paragraphs. Good sequence of points. Brilliant expression. Little typographical errors here and there. We lost the reference in other paragraphs. You need to avoid the use of “Firstly, secondly, thirdly, fourthly, etc. “You can replace them with, “moreover, nevertheless, furthermore, however, etc.” The former is outdated and not ‘catchy’. Nice conclusion. I felt a little bit of your fire in your write up. I pictured you on a stage, presenting, gesticulating and expressing passion. I believe this is not your best. Keep writing. All the best. Mazi Omenuko Thank you for giving us the full meaning of ASUU. Like many others, your focus was solely on ASUU. I believe ASUU is not the only educational body that engages in strike actions. You mentioned that, “Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results is the height of stupidity.” Don’t you think Strike actions have been used repeatedly too over the years? I’m so glad you cited your sources. Very good. Your essay is very persuasive. You can make a reader jump off his chairs. Good job. Keep writing. All the best. Generally, most of the write-ups have little or no persuasiveness. It appeared more of an assignment or research work than an essay. I looked for someone to hammer on the strike actions of other educational bodies, but i found none. I was also expecting those in that group to compare Nigerian schools with strike actions with international schools without strike actions. What is the secret of these schools? What did they do differently? I’m happy for the participants. This is a good way to develop your knowledge and writing skills. |

Hello everyone. Good job so far. The participants and viewers should please engage one another on this thread https://www.nairaland.com/1484758/educational-debate-phase-one-essay. Ask questions, criticize or contradict your opponent's points, appraise and encourage one another. Please be free. The atmosphere is too tense. Let's have fun. Cheers. |
Nwajiogeri: @tosdam, you suported the motion that strike is a wrong approach, but you failed to highlite other possible alternatives apart from dialogue. How wild dialogue possibly solve the problems when ASUU has had loads of dialogues in time past all to no avail?Good questions. Can we get a response to this? All participants can engage one another too. You can counter an opposing stand or support. Let's make this fun. Cheers! |
Viewers should please question the participants or encourage them. Thank you. |
lalaosky:Pfffffttttt. Go back to Ghost Mode ![]() |
dahmie2013: I appreciate d moderators for bringing dis 2 d front page&i've gained a lot 4rm just d first contestants essay. However, his intro was quite good, but he hit d nail on d head @ d conclusion. Also, dere's an xample he gave abt his friend being a genius cos he listens alone & passes. I want 2 ask, wen u say pass is it dat d guy is d best in ur class or he just passes? If he just passes den he isn't a genius, but if he uses dis method&he is d best in ur class den one can rate as dat. Just my observatn, I stand 2 be corrected. Not also judging 2.Correct! I'm loving this. The contestant(s) should feel free to respond to this ![]() |
lalaosky: LMAO!!. See this fake nun. What is "it"?. Done what?Smh... ![]() |
infoscope: No, since it's an intellectual affair and not a do or die affair as was earlier stated, I think the results of all the contestants should be released so that they(we) know where their weaknesses are. It will only make them get better, moreover it will make the whole process transparent. We'll look into your suggestion. However, i want you to understand that we handle things differently. We have no intention of bringing down the morale of anyone through this competition. The viewers can see things for themselves and probably know the essays that are not up to standard. We can get across to them privately. We will publicly appraise and criticize every essay. I think that is enough. Again, the judges will look into your suggestion ![]() |
Again, there is a penalty for every rule broken. Please take note. |
Illuminatus: Exactly. And since we're taking late comers. We should wait till tomorrow, I'm sure other people will post by then, right? Right? You actually have a point. I am strict when it comes to time management too, but we had to consider other factors. If i have my way, this would not happen at the debate. Even if you are typing with a calculator, you should be conscious of time. You can even start typing 4 days earlier to avoid uncertainties. I apologize. We are being lenient because of certain reasons...and if we break the rules for someone, it's only fair we do the same for others. Please bear with us. |
