Ok. I just got off the phone with his mum. She made me understand the reason for Abeokuta and how similar cases have been treated there successfully. A family member has also been there. A case of "tested and trusted". She said it's no trado-med centre...all modern with equipped laboratory. Arrangements have been made concerning transportation.

I spoke with the OP too. He has never been to the hospital but I made him promise to let me know the situation of things as soon as he gets there. He has been to LUTH so he can make comparisons. The moment I hear that the so-called hospital is nothing to write home about, he has to leave IMMEDIATELY. Told his mum too.

I don't know if it's a good idea to have a Nairalander with them. I have a nice person on standby but I'm not too comfortable.

I'm sorry if I can't respond to all mentions. I've been on mobile all day.

So I guess, final decision for now is Abeokuta...first thing tomorrow.

You know, its the right of the patient to decide things like these. If he says he doesn't want LUTH, we have to make him readjust his mind. If he says and insists its the Abeokuta hospital, we have to readjust our own minds. Even doctors agrEe they don't heal people, its God alone who does. Then off to Abeokuta we go. Hopefully, with his mind set on that hospital, he will be fine.

I couldn't argue with him too. One has to be very careful so nobody gets blamed for anything. I am not in support of Abeokuta but if he insists, all well and good.

By the way, they already have a means of transportation to Abeokuta.

Also I'm making arrangements for a Nairalander to go with him to Abeokuta.

Where have you guys decided to go to? Me I am still all for LUTH. Its still LUTH that will give a referral to india or UCH or Germany. The earlier we start off to LUTH the better.

The Abeokuta "hospital" is not a modern medical centre from my own understanding. Even the name is off, no offence meant. I already told OP that I'm not in support. His family is probably on his neck to take him there.

As for the guy that provided us with a car and driver, unfortunately he couldn't reach his driver.

As for LUTH, OP doesn't want to go there.

As for UCH, someone told me there is a probability the doctors would go on strike next week.

At this juncture...

Still waiting for the OP to give me the name of the said hospital as decided by his family.

No one is saying anything about my previous post. My contacts has said its only LUTH that is advisable and she's ready to be of help if needed. They also recommended Lasuth but he will still need referral from LUTH. Ready to share the nurse contact at LUTH. Good day

I just spoke with a doctor in India. we couldnt talk for long because of network ish. I think its a very good hospital, by name :Global hospital Hyderabad, India. you can look it up in Google. its a hospital that handles most of this ascite and kidney related disease solely.

just my own way of contributing to the well being of the OP.

My sister, a trip to that hospital would make you feel sorry for the Nigerian health system.

I remember when my dad was ill as well. We just had to bribe our way through (plus a bit of my brother's aluta) to get him placed on oxygen. He was just left alone...and every private hospital kept referring us back to that same hospital. Even until he was discharged, there were lots of assumptions over what could be wrong. Nothing solid.

It's appalling.
