1.Transparency Is Refreshing
There is something refreshing about honesty, not just for the listeners but for yourself as well. Why not write down your life story so that you can share it with your children and grandchildren. These things are fascinating to later generations. Think of the future. Write it down and capture the moments in your life where you struggled but also times when you rejoiced. Share the heartaches and triumphs, and put them in writing. It might change your children’s or grandchildren’s lives– and maybe even yours.
3. Hearing Your Own Story
It’s interesting that when you share your life story with someone, it’s almost like you hear your own life story for the very first time. It can seem like a movie or a book. Maybe you’ve never done that, but there are advantages to it. We can describe in words what life was like and is like now. When you hear your own story, you might even be changed by it yourself.
4. Reflecting on Your Salvation
To me, a Christian’s life is like a book or movie. There was the “before” time of salvation when “you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience” (Ephesians 2:1-2). But then “God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus” (Ephesians 2:4-6).
5. Changing Other People’s Lives
By sharing your story with others, you can give them hope that they’re not alone and that they have struggled with the same things you did (or still do!). That breaks down the walls between relationships and makes others see that we have more in common than we thought. It draws us closer together, which will change your thinking; and it may change your life, for the better.
Conclusion
Share your life story with someone. Share it by being completely honest about it, by reconstructing your own story, by hearing your story with your own ears, by reflecting on your own life before and then after Christ, as this can change your life and perhaps the lives of others who hear it.
